Yaoi and Yuri, likey or no likey? (29)

1 Name: Ano : 2010-10-01 12:53 ID:v9lS8/fq

so yeah I was bored and wanted a new thread,
As for myself I am a huge yaoi fan as well as yuri (less though)
what I like about Yuri is that it is often cute (cuteness rules^^) and with Yaoi, there is barely any drama (unless the characters are drama queens or OOC)

sooo, I was curious how other people think about this^^

I used to totally hate yaoi...but I find as I become more of an otaku, yaoi seems to become less and less of a turn-off. Yuri on the other hand I don't think I will ever like. Maybe it's because I'm a girl, but I just can't stand it.

Lol... Yaoi is magical ! * nosebleeds*

8 Name: Nerdgirl-hime : 2011-01-10 19:41 ID:PJ1MLu3P

I absolutely  Yaoi.
Yuri, not as much, but it's acceptable. C:
What interests me, though, is that in a good amount of yaoi manga I've read, there's this ONE archetype... the cool businessman with the slicked-back black hair and glasses. Anyone else notice this?

I'm a girl, and I like yuri XD I don't think it has to do with you being a girl, you just don't like it. It's all personal likes/taste (:

Love yaoi, but I know what you mean be the archetypes. You're talking about the cool, quiet, stoic, guy who is completely reserved, right? And he shows next to no emotion? ... I don't like archetypes much. xD
The one I really don't like though is the one where the "uke" is completely submissive, where he acts like a fragile china doll or something, because it doesn't seem all that realistic to me. Yeah, he's gay and takes it up the butt, but that doesn't mean he's a girl.

I find the lot of either really obnoxious, with it being imposed on characters who likely don't need a sexuality at all. At least, not one for the sake of being different or some junk like that (inb4 differing fantasies and perspectives). Unless it's really well portrayed. No one can really deny a good piece of art or writing if it's exceptional, amirite gaiz???

But I guess everything ultimately needs sex or it's not gripping in the least.

Plus they're so constrictive, yaoi and yuri. If I had to go for something beyond het, I'd choose bi/omni/pan/whateversexuality. Something about being able to love everyone and thing is way more appealing. Plus it makes for funny situations when a character can go from a woman to a plant to a man to a beast to a sheet of paper without skipping a beat.

But that's just me. Not here to make sense, lol~ Just tooting my flute

I like yaoi, but my name is irrelevant. My friend made me an email when I was 12, and I've used it ever since, so I just use the username pretty much everywhere. I like yuri a lot more, but that could be because I'm a lesbian. I love a cute fluffy yuri~

Ahaha, I love both yaoi and yuri. :) Kingdom Hearts is probably the best source for at least yaoi out there, lol. AkuRoku anyone?

Meh. I didn't really mind yaoi or yuri before, but now I'm starting to get tired of it...too many these days.

Depends on the couplings. I like Yaoi more than Yuri though. The guys are just so...stares off into space

16 Name: Jerome S. : 2011-03-03 20:42 ID:uWXaTMWa

Short of yaoi

It actually depends on me, I like some pairings, and I don't. If anything, I've been writing more Yaoi than the regular boyxgirl pairing. :P But either way, I like both of them.

19 Name: YacL : 2011-03-09 20:58 ID:2gTjIltf

I like both really. I prefer Yaoi over Yuri and boy x girl, but I don't mind either.

20 Name: Cady : 2011-03-13 19:52 ID:wWqcnM06

For manga, I can't read yaoi or yuri, but for fanfiction, I can stand minimal amounts of yuri (so not the main pairing, but I won't close the window if it's on the side).
As for yaoi fanfiction... Only for certain fanfictions. (Prince of Tennis, for example - you can't have all that guys and not start to think of them being something more! XD haha)

Overall, though, plain shoujo will suit me just find. ^.^

That's an interesting thought. It's unfortunate that not many people are aware of sexualities outside of your standard yaoi/yuri/het/bi.

22 Name: Vi-chan : 2011-03-24 18:19 ID:0+620JNd

I love yaoi and yuri though yaoi is my favorite. I'm actually more of a hard yaoi fan though the cute stuff is amazing as well ;3

Hm, I'm actually curious about what makes people like yaoi and yuri so much. I'm not much of a fan myself, but I don't really care if it pops up randomly in something I'm reading, as long as it's not the main, like >>20 said.
I guess it's just preferences. -shrug-

I like Yuri. The cuteness and everything is just adorable. I even actively look up yuri in manga and fanfics. ><

I am definitely a yaoi fangirl. Actively searching for fanfiction and manga with said pairings. I also like het, though yuri doesn't interest me quite as much, I'll still read it.

I love yaoi! I don't hate yuri but I don't read it either. Strange how that works. Most people like one more than the other. Don't know why. I originally didn't like yaoi. Well, more like I hadn't really know about the world of Homosexual anime but then I accidentally stumbled apon animus like Loveless and Gravitation and fell in love. I think that all the haters of yaoi and yuri would be okay with it if they gave it a chance but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.
