Foreign language threads (25)

Just to say we need a few foreign language threads. I sent this site to a friend of mine who speaks english, but she's actually french and though she liked the site she said it needs more threads for people who don't speak english, like her friends. I suck at languages, but this is just to put a call out to anyone on the site who speaks languages other than english to start up a few other threads.

I can speak a little Japanese and Mandarin, but not too much French O.o Unless you mean for someone with English strictly being their second language, then that isn't me ^^;

I speak VERY LITTLE french...I'd need my french book to do anything haha xD

Although I could possibly try and say something like "do you speak french?" and maybe they could start a chat from there :)

I'm dutch and we have to learn a lot of languages at school.
so I speak dutch, English, German and like one-and-a-half word Japanese. we also had to learn french, but I was never good at it and hate it now XD

I speak Spanish and very little French, but I want to learn it properly, also planning on learning Japanese, Italian and maybe German. Two of my best friend speak French, but only one of them would be more likely to join the thread.

oui, parle vous françias...Non ¬_¬ je deteste ça.

hehe. I'm probably missing a few accents :F because I've forgotten where they go.

Meh.

I did French at A-level, but this means nothing as I got an E at it. But I can understand most basic french lol, and I can remember a crapload of random lines no-one would ever use. Oh, and I know some German.

9 Name: Fee : 2009-12-07 15:01 ID:o7J32yqC

Je parle un peu de français.

Only up to GCSE level though :P

10 Name: Lorze the Brookes : 2009-12-07 15:12 ID:tXbl7JTB

Je peux parle en Francais un petit peu, but I don't know how to type accents on here :D

Par example, je peux discuter beaucoup des topics, mais j'adore totalement mon dictionnaire Francais. Il m'aide tout le temps! Et je sais beaucoup des vocabulaire plus interessante, par example, "Ankylosis" en Francais est "Ankilosier".

(Ankylosis or however you spell the damn word is like getting a dead leg, by the way :D)

>>10 Strange...

Accents, by the way, are alt and various numbers. For example:
é = alt 130
ç = alt 135
à = alt 133
â = alt 131
ê = alt 136
è = alt 138
î = alt 140

J'adore mon dictionnaire aussi - il m'aide tout le monde plus que moi! (being the resident French expert in the class, I get a LOT of stupid questions. I frequently get asked about how to say 'the'. As in, the cinema or whatever. We've been doing French since year seven.)

I agree i think it to be a good idea. You don't need to draw though all you need is to photoshop some apropriate images.

13 Name: Elkkun : 2009-12-11 11:36 ID:Rkr0JUUI

Yeah...I DOING a french GCSE and I still suck at it. I'm probably going to fail...(even though I got like, a C at some cases...) Next Exam comin' up is going to be a beeotch.

haha xD @Fee, THEY ASK YOU WHAT "THE" IS?! X'D Seriously...you say THE before you say most names of things...like THE Cinema.

Jeezuz.

14 Name: Lorze the Brookes : 2009-12-11 12:11 ID:tXbl7JTB

Lol, to be fair, "the" is one of the MOST ANNOYING words in French, and it's worse in German. Who the hell cares what GENDER a word is? Lol, apart from people who have to know these things :D

15 Name: Nina : 2009-12-16 10:38 ID:3n7E8tZY

I'm doing my French GCSE, but to be honest I get a bit of help because my Dad lives in Luxembourg and his girlfriend speaks to me in French. :) Is that cheating? :P So I also know German and a little Luxembourgish; meaning I can order a burger >_<

I want to do Japanese classes at 6th form but I'm not sureif they're available yet. :/

16 Name: Lorze the Brookes : 2009-12-16 11:13 ID:tXbl7JTB

>>15 Sounds awesome lol, and nah, that's not cheating :P And I wish I had Japanese lessons in my school, I learn all of mine from animes and the occasional manga :D

17 Name: Nina : 2009-12-17 13:22 ID:2WvoDl3F

Haha, thats how I got into Japanese. Apparently if enough people are interested I might be able to do a Japanese A Level. fingers crossed

I think languages are important :3

18 Name: Fee : 2009-12-18 09:40 ID:o7J32yqC

>>13 Seriously, they do.

The same person asked me how to say 'then' five times. In as many minutes. I don't know what the heck they were writing but it must have been damn boring.

I'm doing my GCSE too. I was supposed to be fast-tracked, but now nobody is from my year, so it's kind of horrid. And nobody can decide what my joyless aspirational target is, which is kind of interesting.

Argh. Speaking tests. Must revise...

>>14 I don't find 'the' that annoying in French to be honest. Most everything that ends in the letter e is feminine, and some stuff just sounds right or wrong.

Or maybe I'm just being a complete freak. I don't know :S

>>15 Jealous...so jealous.

19 Name: Elkkun : 2009-12-24 09:00 ID:Rkr0JUUI

>>18 Yeah...I find the gender of something kinda confusing...As well as irregular verbs (such as Etre or Aller)...I guess I just need to revise more... :)

French is easy, but the teaching in our school at GCSE was horrendous. My friend and I taught each other for the duration of the year, and I was the only person in my class to get an A-star. Bear in mind that my class was the top set, and nobody should have received a mark below a B- several people got Ds. Could this have possibly been the fault of the teacher who would just play us 'The Incredibles' with French (or sometimes English) subtitles on the smartboard every lesson? Who can say...?

I love languages; at GCSE level I'm studying Spanish and German (and Latin) and for A-Level I'm going to continue Spanish. I'd like to learn:

  • Esperanto
  • Italian

:D

22 Name: RayRay : 2010-01-27 18:00 ID:oqRIFP/u

I wanna learn Polish :)

If any one speaks it, feel free to offer to teach me, I'm picking bits and pieces up but I'd love to learn it properly :P

I am so drunk right now,...seriouisly.

Well, just incase, I can set up threads in French, as I'm a native speaker... I'll do it now, in this area so...^^

24 Name: Tristana : 2010-02-02 06:42 ID:ULRrjmdl

R$e: Previous post was me and thread is set up... I didn't have accents on that stupid keyboard though...

And honestly... learning French can be a hassle - believe me, there are people my age (22) who can't even properly in their own language. Though I really starting to lose it because I barely spoke french this year...

Learned Italian and Spanish too but I sucked... I can understand some of it but not enough to speak.

@20: Could be... I never learned a language with movies... well, we had some but still.

BTW, in France we have to study stuff like... Julian Barnes and all for English classes... do those who take French have similarly annoying French stuff to read?
