jyaa kochi kochi:

I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.

I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.

I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.
We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.

I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.
I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.

I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.
I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.

We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.
I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.

I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.
I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.
I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.
I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.

I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didn’t have to always deal with society hating me.
I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.
I am the person who is afraid of telling his loving Christian parents he loves another male.

Don't add it to your profile. No one reads that shit, and all it does it make your profile overly long. I may be in the minority here, but I like to be able to find out about an author without having to hack through all the stupid copypasta s/he can cough up.

@6- Actually, I don't agree with Marth. I think that you should be allowed to express yourself anyway you want on FF.NET, that's the reason why the site was created. You may think it is clean and accessible, but what you don't realize is that some writers are Chaotic and there is order to their chaos on their profiles.
@3- That maybe what you like, but I for one enjoy it when the author/authoress puts up the copy and paste stuff. It actually tells you more about them than what they actually put. Like, right from your post I can tell you are a pessimist and would sooner have 7 flames on one story than 3 positive reviews.

No one is a tool. You are only a tool if you let yourself be used as a tool. If someone ASKS POLITELY for something, and you give it to them, you ARE NOT a tool.

as for chilling, sorry but I do not appreciate being called things especially by "things" which do not have the balls to sign their statement. and if it is for you just "the internet" that's fine let it be like that and allow to feel whatever I want about it.
as for the person who asked the data, nobody asked you to go to their profile, as nobody force them to put the data in their profile, how to present it is their business as it is yours not to like it or not to go there

..10 Last I checked, places like Myspace and Facebook were where you went to express yourself. Fanfiction.net is (surprisingly enough) for sharing your works of fanfiction with the rest of the internet, and walls of copypasta make things difficult for your readers.

In addition, how is copy-pasting a vast chunk of text a way to express yourself? It's not chaos, it's unoriginality, and it makes a poor advertisement for the interestingness and uniqueness of your stories.

I'm a big follower of arguing with people who piss you off, but since this guy has no life at all you'll get non-sequiturs hurled at you for ages. Bottom line, if someone talks in all caps, he's a git.

As for posting those lines on your profile, why not? If you believe in something you should be allowed to put it wherever you want to put it. No one is being forced to read it, at most to scroll past it. Besides, I think most people scroll past profiles anyway, no matter what's in there.

If you want yours to be read, you have to sell them to potential readers. An intriguing title, a snappy summary, whatever. Profiles clogged up with copypasta to the point where scrolling to the bottom can take minutes at a time are not good advertising.

Oh my god. So many lulz in this thread.

LovelyG/Anon #2—what you need to know is that, to anybody with an IQ above 50 and an education above Year Seven (Sixth Grade to you Yanks), copypasting those quotes into your profile does indeed say, loud and clear, that you are terribly unoriginal and that therefore your fics aren't worth reading. This is because—guess what! Every twelve year old who thinks these trite "I am" quotes are 'deep' or 'insightful' has them copypasted onto his/her profile! Well, have I got news for you, lassie.

1. These quotes are not deep, nor are they insightful.

2. Copypasting something instead of writing about it in your own words does indeed make you unoriginal. (Repeated because it's worth repeating.) And it's annoying, which means anyone visiting your profile is more likely to quit in disgust than read your fics.

3. First off, it's "don't judge a book by its cover," and secondly, who are you kidding? Much how you can tell a lot about a woman by the contents of her purse, you can tell a lot about a (supposed) writer by the contents of their profile. It's not 'judging a book by its cover', it's bloody common sense. (And I'm sorry to say that if you think copypasta quotes actually add anything to your profile beyond junk to slog through, you are indeed a bit of a tool.)

4. lrn2punctuate, kthx.

... Though we shouldn't be getting so worked up here, guys. If the gal can't even punctuate "what's" properly, her fics probably aren't worth reading anyway.

Also, Anon #1 (can I call you Capslock Anon?): I like you. You can sit by me. *pats seat*

35 Name: Tristana : 2010-07-24 03:56 ID:SP+bnVUP

Well, just one thing: nothing wrong with quotes - actually those ones are kind of common on ff.net. Even so, I would have a problem with people having a profile so long that you can fill 7 pages on MS Word with it. (That includes overlong quotes, endless list of bands, anime, pairings and whatever...)

And really, Sera, I like you but no need to get so worked up you know. There are idiots everywhere and there will always be someone throwing trash at you on the Internet. Just let it slide like water on a duck's head.

And LovelyG, you say it yourself: what's important on ff.net are the stories. When you read a lot of fanfic, you read the first 3 profiles and afterward, you just don't anymore because it's too long. Again, everyone is free to do whatever they want on their profile.

(I still don't get how can people get so upset because of stuff that are said on the internet. Like a friend said: when you're on the internet, you can't really fight people's own view because they can just ignore your argument. Alternatively, shut your computer down for a while and cool down.)

36 Name: Iaculus : 2010-07-24 06:28 ID:TsmBAqEm

>>31 Categorising only takes you so far, especially for the bigger fandoms like Harry Potter and Naruto. Also, whilst fics are generally not supposed to be for the purposes of advertising, good advertising is useful if you actually want people to read your fiction.

For instance, let's go for a hypothetical scenario. I'm a slash-crazed Gundam Wing fangirl looking for some good stories involving Heero boinking Duo, which, coincidentally, you just wrote a fic about. So tell me, why should I read your take on some hot underaged pilot loving when there's almost five thousand other stories tackling the same theme out there? That's where the advertising kicks in, and whilst an overcrowded profile will not put off all potential readers (and, in fact, there are worse turn-offs, like a language-molesting summary or a title entirely in lowercase), it won't help, either.

This is... er... quite a thread. Maybe I shouldn't comment, but I want to reply to a few lines.

While I myself don't really like copy/paste stuff, it's a bit funny to see people overreacting to doing that kind of stuff. I respect people for blatantly saying on their profile that they aren't supportive of whatever and that they think of themselves of weird or whatnot.

I like short, clean profiles listing at most information about themselves, stories, favorite/OK/hate pairings, fandoms, and any websites they have. The scroll on the right side of your screen should not be ridiculously small, unless you have a large amount of stories.

You don't really need to know too much about the author of the story you're reading, though- after all, this is fanfiction, and the important thing is if they write fanfiction and aren't total idiots. (Partially is fine. You're not going to become their best friend just by reading their story, right?)

>>34 When I was twelve, I had pretty much the same thoughts as I do now. I'm not that much older than 12- not everybody that age is a copypasta obsess.

Agh, I didn't mean to go that much into this topic. ^^; I tend to go more than I mean to once I get started.

42 Name: BlackMage16 : 2010-07-30 14:53 ID:INwcUKVx

This thread is funny...in a wierd sort of way.

To be honest, when I started out on ff.net, I was really into the copypasta 'shit'. I thought it was funny, cool and part of what you did on fanfiction. After a while I realised that it was a waste of my time having a ridiculously long profile that likely no one will read, and it did bug me to have to slug through pages of copypasta to find out anything about the author. So my profile went through a springclean and now it mostly consists of some information on me, my stories and my likes/dislikes.

I don't have anything against people using copypasta, and I don't think its something to get worked up on. If you feel like this is a good way to express yourself so be it. But I for one infinitly prefer it when the author tells us something about themselves on their profile page- in their own words. So in this regard I do agree with Marth, Iaculus and DuxAtrum, copy/paste can be a major turnoff and whether you realise it or no, you are advertising your stories on your profile page.

So that was my two cents added.

hmmmm....I'm not going to say too much about the message itself. I think that a fanfic writer's profile should say something about the writer as a fan of the series he writes fanficiton for. If you're going to do the copy and paste stuff...post tributes to your characters, favortie pairings, the end of Toonami and ONEMANGA (insert waterfall tears)!!!!! Please don't pollute your profile with useless gibberish...I think a good deal of people really don't give a shit about your beliefs outside of the fandom you're writing for.
