Samurai Champloo Fanfictions : Seme - Uke (16)

Okay I know that it's the writers choice to choose the positions but, stay with me here, there are way too many Mugen as the uke! Jin has that mellow type of nature that should never be a seme. Mugen, on the other hand, is very impulsive and straight forward.

My friend came up with this idea that the seme are usually the carefree, careless ones with the emotion/loving problems and the uke are the ones that are over caring, quiet, sensible or oblivious to others.

Know I put Mugen as my seme in my fanfictions and Jin as the uke, and it seems to fit better together.

Are people just trying to give Jin and Mugen different personalities?

Seme/uke is the cancer of fanfiction, and to constrain a human relationship to outdated gender roles is to administer a heavy dose of radiation to the art form. You prevent yourself from giving your characters any depth and instead write generic nonsense.

Ahem. As you were.

You should keep things in their natural form to keep something at its best. You can deepen Mugen's loneliness like how he grew up or how Jin has no sense for another after killing his sensei. THe 'art form' isn't only the characters. And some things just make more sense then others.

Comprehension, my dear, is a valuable skill.

Apologies for echoing Ellipsis here, but... applying seme/uke dynamics to Samurai Champloo (or any series that is not already mainstream yaoi) is 'keeping things in their natural form'?

To clarify: I have no objection to shipping between two characters who happen to be guys. Insistence that one of them must be the seme and the other the uke, on the other hand, can be... problematic.

Only Yaoi fans could get this. And i do comprehend but some things make more sense then others. Yes both matchings are fine but I'm allowed to have an opinion and i was wondering what others opinions were, not to get into an argument. I want to know why people put Mugen as an uke.

Thing is, though, it's still not 'in their natural form' - you're inserting mainstream-yaoi guidelines where there were none previously. Now, that's fine in and of itself - hell, someone wrote Fruits Basket as a Western, so why not Samurai Champloo as a yaoi manga? - but to pretend that This Is How Things Must Be strikes me as a little... odd.

"Only Yaoi fans could get this?" Seriously?

Oh, wait, I get it now. It's because the rest of us understand that shoving everything into a seme/uke dynamic is bullshit.

Carry on, then.

Well if you wrote yaoi you'd know. They just fit the part and this isn't why i posted this! I just wanted some goddamn opinions. And so far none of these are. So please just stop if you haven't written one and don't have the opinion of Mugen seme uke or Jin seme uke. Ur just like going around messing up other people's threads. So just stop.

I am just like that. How did you know?

Also, I'm, ah, not sure you understand that opinions aren't a binary. "Your premise is dumb" is an opinion, and in this case, it's a completely legitimate one.

But what say this IS my 'goddamn opinion'?

Ur rite, im just lyk goin around lyk totly screwin wit ur thred. Lyk totly.

Um... I think you'll find these are opinions. They are opinions on the system of seme/uke -- two words you feature very prominently in your title -- and by posting on a public forum, you open yourself up to people giving their opinions. Ergo, you have no right to say "just stop", because you invited the responses in the first place.

Seme/uke leads to stereotypes, and unless the character were specifically written that way in the source material, then trying to shoehorn them into a certain role will end up disregarding or exaggerating aspects of their character -- I think this was Ellipsis was talking about, wrt not giving characters depth.

Oh, and we're not the ones provoking an argument. We may disagree with you, but it is possible to disagree and remain polite. Please extend the same courtesy in return.

Okay, now Ellipsis might be. Just a little. But that's how Ellipsis always is, and of course we have to "keep things in their natural form".
