Embarressed about Slash? (10)

I really like writing slash fics but I don't want to publish them on ff.net becuase my sister and several of my friends have me in their fave authors lists and I don't want them to know I write slash.
What should I do??? I was considering creating a new ff.net account - can you have two with the same email address?

Is anyone else embarressed about people finding out they write slash or am I just too prudish?

Hi, Anonymous.

I totally get what you mean. Unfortunately, you cannot have two accounts with the same email address. So unless you have two email addresses as well...

Initially, I felt a bit embarressed about it as well, I have to admit. At one sudden say, I however decided that I no longer cared. There are some of my FF.net mates who only didn't read them because of several reasons, but none of them really didn't read anything anymore. Overall, everyone reacted very well... and due to writing slash, I certainly got more friends on there. I understand it is very 'scary' at first, but once you have posted your first slash fic, it feels more natural. You write for your own joy, and if slash is a part of that, then you'll write good slash as well. You shouldn't be scared about their reactions. You like writing it, it is as simple as that.

I'll come and agree with Bola here, there should be nothing to scare about. It is fanfiction, it is writing. Also slash is a really common thing in FF world. If you are afraid that if you publish your slash fic your friends might think that you are gay or something, you can always tell them that the 80% [or so] of slash fic writers are straight girls so what you are writing do not link to your ow sexuality.

on another note. you should be embarrassed because you write about homosexual stuff, homosexuality shouldn't embarrass ppl!! :)
loosen up a bit, don't give it so much thought, just do it if you like it, and if your friends are into fanfiction then they are probably exposed to so much slash that they will probably bitch on you of "why did it take you so long?!" ;)

The only thing you should be embarrassed of is writing a bad story. Publishing a straight-up masturbatory fantasy on a profile frequented by your friends and family could be... awkward, yes. If, on the other hand, you go for an engaging, believable story that is at or above the standard of writing they have come to expect from you, then the subject matter should be irrelevant.

I used to get realy shy over ANYTHING I wrote just a little while back, tbh. But then, I gave a a book of a fic that i wrote (i write in notepads, mainly)to a friend accidentally, they read it.
OHNOES OHNOES I thought!! When I realised it wasn't the empty notepad.
But meh, she liked it x]
So therefore Im not so shy about it anymore. Although its still extremely embarrassing to have somebody (usually my mum or sis) walk in on me typing up the lemony goodness x]

Thanks for the help and advice - I will try publishing a short bit first and see what the response is before I publish any that I care about! Still kinda scary though! Wish me luck!

And if for some reason, you don't want to be connected to those stories, it's easy to get a free email via aol or yahoo, so you can set up an account for those stories there if you want.

Good luck, and don't worry. Romance is romance regardless of the pairing-- het or slash. Just have fun. ;D
