The Host; I haven't read it, so I prefer it immeasurably, as it has yet to burn my retinas. As a side note, I find it peculiar that Yoshino's latest recruitment drive appears to be directed solely at thirteen year-old Twilight fangirls. Any theories on why?

Technology marches on. Cheap sweets and windowless vans are so last century.

Don't forget puppies! Although... why Twilight fans?

... Yoshino sparkles in the sunlight?!

Um The Host definatly.
Twilight, firstly had a brave few grammitical errors (I am not saying my work on FF isn't riddled with SPG mistakes, but Twilight is a published piece of writing and it really shouldn't be like that.)And the plot is getting insufferable. Bella is one of the biggest Mary-Sues i've come across, Edward's manipulative and practically abusive, Alice is the same (on the manipulative account), Carlisle and Esme aren't there unless they're feeding Bella or cleaing up after Bella when she's hurt,
Emmett seems like a harmless goof, bjt his comments hurt Bella's already fragile self esteem, ( and we don't see the man behind the goof, the one who's serisous and who gives a damn about his family, and not just Fighting, and Rosalie, and hunting, and Rosalie, making fun of Bella and...wait for it...Rosalie). Rosalie is...misunderstood, I think, she is given this harsh Bi***y (excuse the prfanity, but it's really the only word that discribes her throughout the Saga), persona and has no personality aside from her selfishness and vanity. Those two words encapsulate her, in SMeyer's mind. Which makes her not much of a character at all. Which sucks.
Jasper...what do we even know about him? umm..nothing really, yeah we knwo his past...but that tells us nothing of him NOW,nothing of his struggles, and his loves. So really it's quite stupid. I mean he gets the blame for every little thing (the might-have-been slip up in NM) I mean he has to feel the thirst of 6 vampires it any wonder he's so 'weak'?
I'd rant soem more but...I have way too may opinions on this subjet, most of which infuriate me and make want to slap someone (most likely Mrs Meyer herself) so i'll shut up and you can ponder on what i've written.
P.S So really, the point of this whole rant? The charater are like 2D, there's nothing to them that makes them reaistic (or as realistic as a family of vampires can be).

The Host is... readable... not the best but an origonal story at least and with believable characters, I just don't like that it was set up to be a sad death scene and then it was a nice happy ending with the soul becoming a 16 year old blonde bimbo.
Twilight just sucks ass. I watch the movies for the entertainment of throwing popcorn at my twitard friends and laughing at the horrid acting and relationships (note to all men: throwing your girlfriend into a glass table is not a good way to protect her)

Honestly, righ now I prefer The Host, if only because it doesn't result in people shrieking at you if you say you've read it. Yes, I like Twilight, but I like the books not the movies. Robert Pattinson is a douche who hates the character he's playing, and all the hype about 'wow, I love Twilight, don't you love Twilight? You don't? YOU MUST BURN IN HELL!' is utterly ridiculous, and puts me off talking about it to people. I love vampire stories; modern and classics. I also love science fiction, hense my enjoyment of The Host.

What do you think of none?

9 Name: Rachel-Cabbit : 2010-04-11 07:38 ID:tzxthdRC

Both of them are terrible. Meyer just isn't a good writer.
Though, if I am honest I only have 1st hand experience of reading the Twilight series. I have heard from my boyfriend that The Host is better but Meyer messes up with her narration and it gets quite confusing at times.
One thing I hate is when people call Twilight a "true love story" because there is nothing in there that is true love. It is lust, stupidity and obsession mostly. Full of abuse. Abuse, plotholes, Mary-Sues and 2D side characters.
Anyone who thinks Twilight is 'true love' is setting themselves up for disappointment and hurt in life and needs to see a shrink for their issues.

I like Twilight, and The Host. At first I couldn't get into the Host as it was just too long winded and waiting for the story to 'warm-up' but after a few chapters i finally got into it and actually kind of enjoyed reading it - there was definately more involvement with the characters that the Twi-saga, everyone had a role and a meaning in The Host, not played out and strung too far.

Host/Twi-saga cant decide which i think is better?! Sorry.

>>10: If you consider The Host in all its—what—300-page glory a slow story, you've obviously never read Les Miz.

(Not that Les Miz is a bad book—in fact, the opposite is true. But it does take a hundred-odd pages to start with the main plot.)

Also, >>5: saying that Twilight has 'a few' grammatical errors is like saying that fish 'appreciate' water.

12 Name: BlackMage16 : 2010-04-27 15:12 ID:JgV+nh6K

>>6 Haha! I do the same, I watch the movies just to laugh at the completely over-the-top reaction from the fan girls. "OMG Edward I love you!!" Get a life.
I must admit when I first read Twilight, I thought it was okay. However, I've never completed the saga, got part way through the 3rd book and gave up. And as everyone has said, there's nothing believable about the characters.
I've only read a bit of The Host but it's better then Twilight in my opinion. There is an original idea and the characters seem more well-rounded...I'll have to finish it to make a better critique.
But overall, Twilight is one of the most over-rated books out there with no real plot and completely vapid characters. They all need to die.

Smeyer, is a crap writer. Right, so I know that I'm going to get about one thousand fan girls coming up to me and saying ZOMG!!1111111!!!!111!!1!1111!!! (The ones are on purpose) YOU HATE SMEYER AND EDWARD CULLEN YOU SHOULD BURN IN THE FIRES OF HELL. YOU'RE A TERRIBLE PERSON!!!!111!1111!!1!!! (But with worse grammar) However it is true her writing is shite and also has a massive Mary Sue in the case of Twilight. I read about four pages of The Host and then gave up. So to conclude, both books are as bad as each other.

haha leave Yoshini alone you guyss! I will presonally PM and ask why. =)
i ADORE Twilight and The Host is better, yes.
Come on guys, it's terribly written, but It's lovely trash that everyone reads, admit it (i adore reading trash XD ) and my name is BellaEdwardZanessa.x I'm one of the few FANS on here.
Yes twilight is overrated, yes the host is better, but give it all a chance? without even reading it, you can't say a single word about it, because that's not your opinion, cause you personally haven't even read the book. so you're dumber than one of the millions of edwards wives. so ha. (see you get clever misstresses of edward - me)
I'm not telling you to love it, but give it a chance, if you don't like it then, then say no, give your own honest opinion, don't just think oh she said that, which means it must be crap. anyway, this thread isn't for twi-haters, it's about twilight vs. the host
my answer?
I adore Twilight, But I love The Host much more, I think it's written better than twilight (x3000) and if Stephenie Meyer did make it into a series, I would love her for life =)

ugh- typical Twihard response...

I did read Twilight or at least I read the first two and part of the third books. So I can make a informed opinion of the books. I also know what happened in the fourth book and to be honest, the whole Jacob/ Renesmee thing makes me sick and is one of the reasons I couldn't finish reading the books. Perhaps in the future I'll try again but for now my opinion of the books is quite low. The only saving grace for them is that the movies suck so much more that they make the books seem better then they are.
I really don't want to repeat myself but Bella is a vapid character with no real personality, she is your typical Mary-Sue and bugs the hell out of me. I don't like Edward. nobody is that perfect even in novels we like to see some flaws, these things tend to endear a character to the reader. And the fact Edward left Bella- the so-called love of his life in the second book and then she was stupid enough to go back to him...
The only character I really liked was Jacob and then S.Meyer hed to mess him up too.
I did like Twilight when I started reading it, and a small part of me still does- note very, very small part- but the whole fan-girl fever and the crappy movies has put me off the series (and anyone who likes R.Patz as Cullen has no taste). I'll watch the movies for a laugh but I've long since given up on taking the Twilight 'saga' seriously. As Lupa said before, if it wasn't for all the ridiculous hype I would like the Twilight books a lot more. I love vampire stories and if you want to read better ones I would suggest the early Anita Blake books and perhaps the Sookie Stackhouse books.

The Host on the other hand is so much better compared to the Twilight books in my humble opinion. I've only started reading it and at least the characters are interesting and have personalities. I need to finish the book before I can form a better opinion of The Host but so far, so good.

About the whole Jacob/Renesmee thing: HE DOES NOT LOVE HER LIKE THAT YET. He sees her as a little sister, and he's like a big brother/uncle to her. Later on, he will be her friend, and then eventually, when she has grown up, they will 'get together'. Smeyer explains this quite clearly, when Bella questions Jacob about Quil and Clare.

18 Name: ... : 2010-05-23 02:09 ID:gVXeC8yJ

How is that any less horrible? For Renesmee, it would be like screwing her dad.

I have read both Twilight and the Host.

I think the Host is better written, but I enjoyed reading Twilight more.

Well, I wasn't looking for a brilliant piece of literature when I bought Twilight. I was looking for a silly romantic tale that would take my mind off the troubles in my own life. Whatever issues I might have, at least I don't have an overprotective boyfriend who wants to drink my blood. Twilight makes you appreciate what hasn't happened to you yet. And it's a nice book if you're looking for some light reading. ~.^

Now the Host... was more interesting to read. But it's not a book I'm going to read again anytime soon. Twilight is a book you just read every now and then. That's why I appreciate Twilight. It's simple but entertaining. Just don't tell the world it's better than Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings (or any other book that became famous for a GOOD reason), because it's not. Seriously.
