Less Popular Pairings? (42)

1 Name: Slavka13748 : 2009-12-27 20:13 ID:Lg5fYsdL

Even in the relatively limited scope of fan fiction I read, I've found that there are pairings that are generally accepted to be the 'popular' ones - the ones that dominate the pages and just about everyone seems to write for.

But what about the others? Does anyone else support other, less popular pairings? I reckon they need more love, so let's discuss the pairings that no one else loves!

For example, my chosen fandom is FFXII. The popular pairing there seems to be Balthier/Ashe or Basch/Ashe. I... just don't see it. I'm a Vossler/Ashe fan all the way! But I'm part of a very small minority there.

FFVII- Got to be Zack/Angeal because it's just an awesome bromance! I like it more than Zack/Cloud.
Devil May Cry- As much as I like Lady it's got to be Dante/Trish for me!

I often like these a lot. It's more interesting to see how non-standard pairings can be made. 5 examples below.

Digimon: Takeru/Miyako (Yolei). This is pretty rare and I think it'd be interesting to see a story where a relationship develops, since they get along well, live in the same apartment building but don't know each other that well.

FFVII: No specific ones in this, apart from I'd like to see some Cloud/female character fanfiction. It seems rare enough. Even better if it's not Tifa or Aeris. Non-pairing fics are rare too or just friendship with no hinting at anything more. I'd like to see some good Cloud/Zack friendship only sometime.

Harry Potter: Harry/Gabrielle ones are quite funny usually. Taking Hostages by The-Caitiff is a good example of a short one: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3406522/1/Taking_Hostages

Naruto: Naruto/Filler girl or lesser used girl can be interesting, since there are quite a few who are interesting but get dropped after a few episodes.

Ranma Nibunichi: Ranma/Kodachi can be amazing or can be terrible. White Rose by Aondehafka is a good example: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1253197/1/White_Rose

Kay this sounds sad but the hollyoaks fandom is filled with JP/Craig but there is not even a mention of Kieron- the guy that still makes me cry forever if i watch the episodes on youtube!

"Noooz, lyk, Lust lyk fully luvzz Scar!!11"
You know? So, I'm writing as much Lust/Greed as I can to fight back :)

Nah.

Lust/Gluttony.

You know it to be true, and not even the most frantic attempts to claw out your eyes will remove it from the unforgiving vistas of your imagination.

In Naruto, I'm an Anti: Sakura X Anything
I really don't know why I just despise that girl...

8 Name: Anonymous : 2010-02-23 15:28 ID:hhuQ7UAw

@ 7, for me, the fact that she could have been an awesome character but, because she is female (meaning, in Naruto-verse, she can only be two things, a love interest and a nurse) she was completly wasted.

I can't read Naruto anymore, it annoys me too much

I think I would like to see more Reno pairings (from Final Fantasy VII), purely because I love his character and attitude - it makes for an interesting relationship. I particularly love Reno/Elena at the moment because, both being in the Turk profession, it can also include a really riveting, action-based plot whilst being romance based, which is really a perfect mix in my opinion.

Something interesting to keep your heart in your mouth, then a little bit of romance to melt it. Lovely.

12 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 11:36 ID:uxJze8SQ

@Kiterunner- The FF7 fandom is already flooded with Reno pairings. You're right that it's harder to find Reno/Elena, though (either she's with Tseng, or HE'S with Tseng).

Reno is a character I write a lot, as I love the freedom one has in writing him; he's about as multi-faceted as they come. He can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, and paired with almost anyone. He's also useful for advancing the plot.

On the other hand, I hate badfic Reno. This is the Reno that says, 'no, yo!'. This is also the OOC Reno of S&P's dreadful fics (don't know who that is? Long may that continue!).

As for good Reno pairings... Well, as always, there's Karanguni (she writes mostly yaoi, but I love her writing despite my dislike of the yaoi genre; she's brilliant). There's also Mengde's 'Master and Hound' (I think it's called that)- while not technically a pairing, it's a great piece, and it shows the dynamic between Rufus and Reno brilliantly. So google it.

I don't read him as much as I write him, so I can't help much.

13 Name: KiteRunner : 2010-02-24 11:59 ID:jg+wCZvt

@Ellipsis - Mmmm, I agree. There are a few bad fics out there that include such atrocities such as 'no, yo!' like you listed or other terrible sentance endings along similar lines that I shall not repeat, in order to save my sanity. I have been unfortunate enough to come across a handful in my time, but I shall resist the urge to google this so called 'S&P'. Thank you for the forewarning.
Rest assured I will be reading your recommendations within the hour. Thanks for those. I would happily read your Reno-centric works, if you would be so kind as to give me a title to look for ^^ Unless, of course, you don't feel the need to. That's fine too. :)

14 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-02-24 12:07 ID:CEMHs92n

@8, True, true. I'm pretty sure Kishimono only wanted someone to fill in the gap at first, but then Sakura had to have a bit of a larger role because of whole team 7 dealio etc. I can't think of her as a vital character, as in the story is about Naruto and Sasuke, not Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura. Maybe, like you said, if she wasn't a nurse or love interest, I probably could have. (Contradicting myself slightly, I like 'Naruto' because there are so many characters involved.)

But really, over everything, SasuSaku is my i>worst enemy. There is no love.

15 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 12:24 ID:uxJze8SQ

@Kiterunner- S&P is an abbreviation, so I doubt you'd find him via googling the initials. To cut a long story short, he writes mountains of abominable Reti (in one, Reno does 'the robot', which Tifa finds adorable. In another (or maybe it's the same one) he says, 'come and take a ride on Captain Reno's love boat', which is, apparently, very seductive. Note that it isn't done as a joke.) I read his writing when I want to experience the sensation of having my eyes scraped out with a rusty skewer.

I've already explained (on a fair few threads) why I don't link to my profile here, so I'm afraid I can't do that. Anyway, my writing is not in the same league as Mengde's or Karanguni's, so I wouldn't recommend it (and most of my Reno-writing is in RPs/unfinished bits and bobs). I'll add recommendations as I think of them, though, and I hope you enjoy those.

Incidentally, how do italics work on this forum?

I'm not familiar with the code.

17 Name: KiteRunner : 2010-02-24 12:56 ID:jg+wCZvt

@Ellipsis- A rusty skewer? That bad, eh?

Fair enough, I haven't actually seen any of the explanations on the other threads but I apologize. Thanks regardless. Also, if you ever feel the need for some quality Reno/Elena fanfic, check out Carrietheninja's story. I personally really enjoy all her stories, that one in particular. It's called 'Cleansing the Soul' if my memory serves me correctly.

An eye for an eye, a story for a story. Right? ^^

@Iaculus- As for the italics, I'm sorry to not be able to help. I'm also curious as to how the italics work.

18 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 12:58 ID:uxJze8SQ

@Iaculus- If this is in italics, then use HTML and then the '' symbols where you'd usually use '[' and ']' for bbcode. If it's not, it's because I've never used HTML before.

19 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 13:00 ID:uxJze8SQ

The '<' and '>' symbols.

20 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-02-24 14:01 ID:CEMHs92n

Since I use italics in practically every post:

is where you want the italics to begin and is where you want them to end. (leaving out the spaces, 'course.) So just insert them into the test and there's no need for any extra spaces between words because the symbols don't show up.

I think the same goes for bold and underscore but yesh, you need the HTML thing up.

Bold
Underscore

21 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-02-24 14:06 ID:CEMHs92n

Okay, sorry, the spaces between the things didn't get added.

Ignore the fullstops. Beginning: End:
Same goes for bold and underscore. Beginning: End:

22 Name: Iaculus : 2010-02-24 14:06 ID:t0KE5/pp

Testing... 1 2 3.,

23 Name: Iaculus : 2010-02-24 14:07 ID:t0KE5/pp

Excellent. Ta for the assist.

24 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 14:24 ID:uxJze8SQ

You're welcome. It's funny what one can work out from other people doing it wrong in other threads.

25 Name: RayRay : 2010-02-24 14:26 ID:QeNNea9U

I didn't understand any of the above. I think I'll stick to just plain posting. Me and HTML aren't friends.

26 Name: KiteRunner : 2010-02-24 14:40 ID:jg+wCZvt

You're not alone there RayRay. HTML and me don't exactly get along either.

27 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 14:41 ID:uxJze8SQ

@Rayray- I take it you haven't used bbcode, then.

With bbcode, if you do [i]this[/i] around a word, it becomes italicised. [b]This[/b] makes it bold, [u]this[/u] makes it underlined, and so on. You can combine two or more, if you do it carefully- [b][u]this[/u][/b] would work, but [b][u]this[/b][u] wouldn't. Think of it as being like Russian dolls, if that helps.

This board doesn't have bbcode as an option, but it DOES have HTML, which works the same way- except that the < symbol is used instead of [ , and > instead of ]. There.

28 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 14:45 ID:uxJze8SQ

So you would use:

<i>Italic</i>

<b>bold</b>

<u>underline</u>

etc.

29 Name: ... : 2010-02-24 14:49 ID:uxJze8SQ

To get:

Italic

bold

underline

Etc

SO YOU CAN IRRITATE PEOPLE WITH THINGS LIKE THIS.

30 Name: RayRay : 2010-02-24 14:52 ID:QeNNea9U

I'm guessing you need HTML enabled for this? Once I figure out how to allow HTML, I'll get back to you, haha.

31 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-02-24 15:01 ID:CEMHs92n

I am a twat. I saw what I did and thought "screw it" so why didn't I just turn the f**king HTML off?
If anyone wants to confirm my idiocy, do so. I deserve it.

@Kiterunner- Oh, yes, I nearly forgot- if you read a lot of Reno, you must have come across her by now, but just in case- Moiranne Rose. About 60 good fics, most Reno-centric. That is all.

35 Name: Anonymous : 2010-02-25 07:45 ID:BH9iANWA

@Ellipsis Ta much. Yes, I have come across her works before, but it was nice to see that she had some new stories up.

No obviously not...

For obvious reasons, TRHP just isn't as mainstream on the Harry Potter fandom. (Too bad that most of the fics I seem to find for it are crap, though. A freaking PWP for the pairing was more believable than most of the stuff I found before and after that. facepalm)

Hrm...although it does seem to be well-liked by the readers, there are only two stories (more like one and a half since the second is a companion of the first) for the pairing of Ace x Mouda from One Piece, the author of both being myself. I know there are plenty of fellow writers who like this couple, but for whatever no one wants to touch it. I don't know if its because I pioneered it and people are worried I'll get mad or something, but I would LOVE to see another author's take on this pairing.

42 Name: nakedpie : 2011-08-18 19:43 ID:IiHlY3pW

Yeah. Angel/Mo and Mo/MacCoy from Dance Central. Everyone likes Angel MacCoy, so do I, but I prefer the others.
