New fanfiction ideas for popular series (12)

One thing I have noticed in the fanfiction for more popular series is that the stories start to fall into pattern after a while.

For example, I have seen Naruto facfiction with the words "watch as he" in the summary for more times than I can count.

It might be refreshing to see new and unused ideas for those popular series. What are some good fanfiction ideas that you do not find to be used quite often?

@Wolvenstrom, that's interesting, because I write for that fandom and have rarely seen that phrase in summaries, if ever. It could be that you and I are reading different fanfiction, though--I do read and write yaoi, after all.

Personally I don't have any good ideas. I'm addicted to humor in fanfiction, so I'll love it if it's funny and well-written even if the premise is cliche. The pot of gold in terms of good, rarely or never-used ideas would likely lie in canon-verse fanfiction, since the possibilities there--with all the different villages, bijuu, clans, shinobi and jutsu--are practically without limit. Unfortunately, I can't (don't) write canon-verse, so I am confined to the creation of yaoi fanfiction that falls into the pattern to which you refer. And while I wish I were one of the more creative ones, alas...I am not.

Well I do tend to find it a lot in Naruto fanfiction, it's a phrase I'm tired of which is usually before they talk about him taking konoha by storm or something like that, not to say the story inside wont be good but I find it too generic to accuratly tell you how the story it's summerizing is.

I also do like storys even if they are cliche, but I feel that popular series fanfiction are all pretty much the same formula after a while.

Something original in a fanfiction is someting like.

  1. In a 'harrys brother is the boy who lived' type fanfiction, instead of it being a mistake what if his brother 'really was' the boy who lived?

2.In one piece, what if he ate a 'different' cursed fruit? Mabye a logia or a zoan?

I haven't seen many of those kind of plot line. None in the case of number 2

thanks anyway.

In my opinion I think the AU high school setting is over-used in fanfiction. I do enjoy some of them but too many people try to do and you end up with about 50 fanfics that are all the same.

I prefer usually AH like:

In Star Wars if Anakin had never become Darth Vader.
In Bleach if Ichigo had never met Rukia and had met the Vizairds/Arrancar first.

Or people who continue a story after the series has ended or a certain part of it has ended because then they can make up absoloutely anything.

Harry Potter has a lot of cliched stories, I love AU as long as its not completely outrageous.

I'm doing a HP at the minute that is completely Canon, excluding the epilogue. And Harry is going to be a bastard in it.

YAY fun!

Draco is the Hero of course, because I love him. But I'm trying to keep him in character.

I love Harry Potter fics in which Harry looses the war and sends his memories back, or some way to change the past, and the story rewrites through Harrys years at hogwarts. Has to be Harry/Ginny, ofc.

I saw a story like that once where Harry was sent back more than 100,00 years. He ended up being the father of all magic, buddha, moses, the inventor of all rudimentary inventions like brick and pottery. And a heck of a lot more.

If you like those storys Harbiger youve got to check of 'voldemorts last spell'

One of the things I like to do is give what could be considered an 'old idea' it a new twist. That way, there's some familiarity about it, but(hopefully) no ones going to be saying they've seen in before.

Yeah. For example, with CSI:Miami, other pairings have become really hard to write about since Calleigh and Eric... Therefore... since everyone mostly likes to continue writing about their favorite pairing, nevertheless the new canon one, and this doesn't stroke with CBS's ideas... You mostly write summaries containing 'What if', 'Calleigh and Eric' and 'never been together'. It is mainly because we don't have much of a choice. I mostly try to connect with times before that particular pairing became canon, and when there could be seen electricity between my favorite.

>>1 But is having a cliche in the summary really indicative that all the fics are the same? I'm not denying that there are overused plots in pretty much any fandom, but "watch as he" doesn't strike me as particularly limiting, plot-wise.

>>3 You think Harry's Sibling Sues are an underused idea? You're a lucky person if you haven't already encountered several truckloads of them.

The "watch as he" summary doesn't mean all the stories are the same. Think of it as just opening the story. It depends what comes after that in the summary which will give you the better clue, eg- "watch as Harry follows the footsteps of Voldemort."
Is you get a hundred summaries about Harry turning evil, you got yourself a patterned plot.
Similar, "what would have happened" isn't exactly a repeative phrase, because so many things could come after it. "What if Lily chose Snape over James?" or "What if Dumbledore was wrong?" However, I know what you mean by falling into a pattern.

Certain styles and types of writing becoming a 'fashion' if you will. You might be looking through your fandom and see a few pages full of OC's, likely because they have become the 'new thing.' Plots are snatched as well, possibly because someone reads a good one and wants to write on themselves, unaware their opinion is shared by so many others. Those who are aware of this and still want to do it rush their stories.

Oh.. I'm always reading Twilight fanfiction, and there is a lot of boarding school stuff... alot, I can't say I'm not guilty though because I have written one... it's easy, I find that things tend to be popularly written if people like the ideas and copy it themselves, or if it is an easy subject to write.
