Uk and online events with no screaming (5)

1 Name: Final Fantasy Gamer : 2011-04-25 10:15 ID:gH44QWNG

Why can't we have events in the UK? Like in Barnstaple not just London (it's a three day journey to get there from here!) Also, wouldn't it be great if we couod have these conventions online?! With downloadable doujinshi and voice actors (that would mean no one would be screaming over them for a change!)

2 Name: Anonymous : 2011-05-03 22:26 ID:KljFfv0+

oh i like that! Cuts donw not only on travel but is more manageable I think :)

3 Name: Ciel Elleira Sky : 2011-05-05 14:43 ID:xK1UoUUI

I am ALL for THAT! That is a good idea for those who can't make it to one that month, so they can still attend it anyway, just online!

I live in the United Kingdom & I thought I would start a new thread to find out how many people would want an event over here in the U.K. :)

2 Name: Miki : 2011-03-30 02:08 ID:N0fc3yOW

I live in the UK. ^_^ Unfortunatly I live in Lancashire so I don't really get to attend the yearly London conventions that take place - too far away and expensive.

3 Name: AppleDoodle : 2011-03-30 08:53 ID:uHTiwEpI

I'm from the UK :) I live in London so I suppose there are a few oppertunities for me to go to conventions, but they're all either too expensive or are 18+ so I've never been to one.

4 Name: enchantedsleeper : 2011-04-01 14:09 ID:Uay9jmlY

The UK is kind of a big area. Should we narrow it down?

>>2 Ah, which conventions are you thinking of?

5 Name: WakuMaku : 2011-04-13 14:07 ID:zEuHuKLC

What do people think of having fanfiction or fan art gatherings, like gatherings which are purely for people who write fanfiction or draw fan art just so you can talk to a real life person with a face and a heart and a brain who also writes/draw fanfic/art. I don't know anyone in real life who does so it's nice to have this forum to talk to people about it.

6 Name: No1fanofalot : 2011-04-24 09:04 ID:1x67Q9e4

I agree, I live in Wales so anywhere in England is out for me, sadly, but what kind of things are you guys thinking about? If there are any in the Swansea area I'd try to attend :)

7 Name: TotallyGaga : 2011-05-01 16:58 ID:9xzfT43S

In the country practically everything is too far away! (Northamptonshire)

8 Name: Beckett Simpleton : 2011-05-14 04:29 ID:KDMvDX7J

I live in the UK. But in the North East. I go to London occasionally, since I have family there, but I can't just go whenever I feel like it... Unfortunatly. Maybe whatever the event is, it could move around? You know, like Walex, Glasgow, Edingborugh, Newcastle, London, manchester, etc...?

9 Name: Eleanor : 2011-05-17 09:09 ID:49kTXebG

If it could move around, that would be really great! I live in London, so it's not a problem, but I suppose a lot of people would love the opportunity to have these conventions in their own district. The only thing is... money, and whether or not the artists would only show their art in their area or travel around with it.

Fanfiction Competitions? (9)

1 Name: Noc and NC : 2011-05-11 16:42 ID:MKPuRxm8

This bulletin is mostly used for organizing offline meetings, but there are plenty of events people can hold online as well.

I was curious if anyone might be interested in holding fanfiction competitions here at FanBBS. I've always wanted to try entering in one, but by the time I find out about them the due date is already long past! So, I thought I'd propose the idea here.

The ideal would be to have different competitions for different categories, such as anime, games, books, etc. But for now I'll just ask, is anyone interested in this sort of thing?

2 Name: Neil Dunsmore : 2011-05-12 14:06 ID:bMexkaet

That sounds like a great idea.

3 Name: Noc and NC : 2011-05-12 19:35 ID:8CzjpR7H

>>2

Would you be interested in being a contestant or a category judge?

I was also thinking that people entering in one category could act as judges for other categories if their familiar with them. That way, people could still enjoy a competition and also help out with judging if they wanted to.

4 Name: Neil Dunsmore : 2011-05-13 16:57 ID:bMexkaet

I'd rather be a contestant myself. I haven't had much time to read fanfiction as of late, anyway.

5 Name: Noc and NC : 2011-05-13 17:40 ID:cwsApNce

>>4

I'd rather just be a contestant too, actually ^^

But, I'm the one who's proposing things so I suppose I should judge things if possible lol.

6 Name: KaiHillover◆2BozL9qisE : 2011-05-21 16:43 ID:oTz3SmZ5

That'd be awesome!

7 Name: Noc and NC : 2011-05-21 18:16 ID:MKPuRxm8

>>6

I know, right? I've always wanted to be involved with stuff like this, but whenever I find out about contests the due date for entering has gone by- thus my proposal here. There doesn't seem to be many people who are interested though >.<

If you were to participate, would you rather be a contestant, a judge or both?

8 Name: fan-to-fiction : 2011-05-22 06:03 ID:2Uwz3XhZ

I'd like to be both

9 Name: Noc and NC : 2011-05-22 10:53 ID:MKPuRxm8

Thanks for your interest! What categories do you think you'd want to enter in or judge?

Ontario Fan-art events (19)

1 Name: Darren : 2011-04-07 04:17 ID:17UTKuYd

Does anyone else think fan-fic and fan-art LIVE events in Ontario would be awesome? I think we should talk about having these 'hotspots', if you call them that. I mean, I'm sure everyon's wanted to meet their favourite fan-artist on the internet they've heard about.

10 Name: the darkness revealed : 2011-04-23 22:24 ID:hDeetP2W

Um, where would we be meeting? Like, which city?

11 Name: Schrodinger's Cat : 2011-04-24 11:21 ID:PkdQXOMY

Well, where does everybody live? I live in Toronto.

12 Name: Squabble : 2011-04-24 16:51 ID:FRf9qdrr

Most conventions take place in Toronto so that should be a good place for it.

13 Name: loneguppy : 2011-04-24 21:05 ID:nS3jd57/

I was thinking of Toronto too.

14 Name: Russa : 2011-05-09 06:25 ID:OOpNLmy8

So, I was just wondering what would happen if an fan-art/fan-comic event were held in Ontario... Would it be like a gathering of fans to get together and discuss and sell their work? Or more like a convention with guests, and an Artist Alley/Dealer's Room, and event rooms and such? Like, what would we all be doing there?

Toronto is a good place to hold an event/conventions. Weekends are usually a good safe bet. I'm just wondering about late June. Kids don't usually get out of school till the last week, and by then lots of places are already booked for summer activities. To hold an event in Toronto at the end of June, the place for it would probably have to be selected and reserved well in advance.

I'm not an expert by any means at organizing events; it's just a suggestion. ^_^

15 Name: loneguppy : 2011-05-14 16:36 ID:nS3jd57/

It depends on the size of the gathering.
I've found some sites to look into. Haven't had time to look into anything yet. We will need the expertise of professional planners

Restaurants with private rooms
http://www.restotoronto.ca/districts/toronto-downtown-restaurants.php

Hotel venues
http://www.eventsource.ca/venues.aspx?search=2&occasion=Social%2bVenues&category=toronto_gta_hotels&room_min=51&room_max=100&location=Toronto

Specific locations that has it's own event planning services:

Exhibition Place

Post too long. Click to view the whole post or the thread page.

16 Name: Russa : 2011-05-16 07:19 ID:OOpNLmy8

That's true. It does depend on the gathering size for, where, when, and what to do. And it help to have a professional planner's guidance.

As far as I know, renting private rooms at restaurants or hotels is expensive. If there was an estimate of how many could come, then we'd have a fair idea of whether a just one big room was needed, or several. I also had an idea that a school's gym and a few classrooms would be okay. But I don't know how hard it would be getting a school to agree.

17 Name: loneguppy : 2011-05-16 21:12 ID:nS3jd57/

That's true. Even community centres too.

18 Name: loneguppy : 2011-05-16 21:25 ID:nS3jd57/

Starting to locate some local facilities. I attended an art show at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre once.

http://www.toronto.ca/culture/pdf/rental.pdf

I'll see if I can find anymore like this.

Hey everyone,
so the webmaster of this site wants to start doing conventions for fan-art and fan-work. maybe even some fan-fiction writing, depending on who wants to do that. so what does every one think?

28 Name: Anonymous : 2011-05-03 22:24 ID:3IrrJByj

Pennsylvania! :)

29 Name: Christy C. : 2011-05-04 06:59 ID:gNn89dUA

@ Purple Dragon Ranger: I definitely agree, as long as we have enough people. Having two or three people at one event would be kind of sad...

30 Name: Brooke E. : 2011-05-05 20:19 ID:Mst9iBcn

I love the idea! Just where exactly do we start? Anyone near Alabama?

Chicago (4)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2011-05-02 02:27 ID:QUWNMyV8

Perhaps if we can get enough people near Chicago, we can have an event here.

So, in order to have an event, we need to decide on the date and time for it. Where do you think we should meet? What time would we all be available for meeting together?

2 Name: Mari : 2011-05-04 18:07 ID:jVGT6avd

Fan events have been held at many venues over the years...I suppose it depends on the scale of the event. It would be cool if it was something big. A hall or center perhaps?

3 Name: AangKatara777 : 2011-05-07 18:59 ID:Km3xv2k0

I would be able to go to a fan-work event in Chicago, but I'm not good with names of any of the halls or centers there. Perhaps we could find a list of places who do things like that? Conventions or something?

4 Name: Anonymous : 2011-05-07 20:09 ID:Tem0Bvoy

Maybe a simple place like a public library would be good place for the first event - after all, it is likely that there won't be more than 15 people at the first one, so a hall or center won't be necessary. Does anyone know of any public libraries in Chicago?

1 Name: Anonymous : 2011-04-24 12:15 ID:py/D+/0i

So, wouldn't it be great to have an event in Alberta for fan-art and fan-comics?

Well, in order to have an event, we need to pick a time and place for it to happen.

So, for the event, when do you think we should all meet? What time/date would be good for the meeting?

8 Name: Kibas-angel10 : 2011-04-26 17:06 ID:cEWUtTgq

Funny, I'm right outside Edmonton. But I kinda like that tour idea. Though then it'd have to include the smaller cities too, not just places like Edmonton, Jasper, etc. For example, the city I live in (not sure if I should give the name of it though ^^;)

9 Name: Cherry Blossom Zuperstar : 2011-04-27 12:53 ID:jJBCcKAv

The touring would be fun. But you would kind of have to advertise right? So everyone know when it'll be? And then you'd have to find a meeting place too. In a way would it be like a meet-up? Like the cosplay ones except not cosplay?

10 Name: monmoncandie : 2011-04-27 15:39 ID:r6dRMp4n

I think it is going to be treated like a meet-up thing.

If anyone's interested in anime, there's actually an anime-specific event called "Otafest" here in Calgary on May 20-22 I think that I'll be going to. I wasn't sure if I should advertise it or not, but hey, just letting you know where if you're interested and want to chat. LOL

11 Name: HappiestUnderClouds : 2011-04-27 15:58 ID:ifnhyvLj

I live outside of Edmonton, and it'd be pretty cool to do something like this. I wouldn't be able to do the tour, only go to whatever location is by Edmonton...
and like Otafest, there's Animethon here....

12 Name: monmoncandie : 2011-04-28 11:20 ID:Lh2uKpcr

>>11 I know this is off-topic, but I would love to go to Animethon if I wasn't so limited on travelling options. :|

13 Name: Anonymous : 2011-04-29 00:12 ID:py/D+/0i

I think that most people aren't able travel much, therefore "touring" isn't really much of an option - therefore, I think we should have separate events in both Edmonton and Calgary.

14 Name: Mr. Snarky : 2011-04-30 17:09 ID:NUBzLXo2

I have to agree with Anonymous; I haven't got much time or money for travel. Edmonton and Calgary seem to be good places to meet. Are there any other places where it would be convinient to meet?

15 Name: Kalmay : 2011-05-03 08:21 ID:7xXU0ztN

Mommoncandie, where is that Otafest taking place? Is there a link about it?

16 Name: monmoncandie : 2011-05-04 19:33 ID:Lh2uKpcr

If there are enough people from New York City, perhaps we can have an event here.

So, in order to have an event, we need to decide when and where it will be.

Where do you think would be the best place for us to meet? What time would all of us be available (i. e. on what days are we not busy)?
