Well, yeah. I've finally met people just as weird as me:D:P
Nope, you're still weirder
I doubt that, that title was already taken by me. Yeah, I've met a lot of people who share the same interest and now I know that I'm not the only Dutch guy who almost never writes in his mother language =) And that it's very common for people to write horrible stories when they're young.
hey hey! don't forget about me!!!!
...also all these people are from the same threath...wazaaah
We (me, AlexPhoenixwing, Aver and Idrill) are all from the Netherlands; we attend meetings in the Zuid-Holland province.
Ahahaha, I've met people who are even less sane than me! Well, on second thought.. Anyways, I'm from the Zuid-Holland group too! Ehehe~
Sure, I've met some awesome people through the London fanfiction meeet-ups - including my wonderful boyfriend <3 ^^ And I've generally loved meeting writer-y people who spend their time writing and reading fanfiction, of all different types. Definitely a success story :3
>>10 And the Zuid-Holland meet up is full of crazy people, apparently xD
>>12 Nope, I don't actually think I know any of it XD You should share some stories. We all should! Let's have an Offline Meeting Storytime X3
I've met lots of new little friends!!! :)
Random yay! 8D
The Dutch group isn't crazy, we're... eccentric (like various batman villains, only better dressed) Also we appear to be the only active group in the Netherlands so far.
Stories
Well, the first meeting in The Hague was fun, seven people showed up, but the weather was cold and windy. We exchanged stories (as far as we brought them) but soon we started talking about jobs, school, or combined as several were teachers and various other topics.
Despite the fact that most of us were into totally different fandoms we had a lot of fun reading stories and just talking.
Apparently we like K-on a lot.
I went to another meeting in Eindhoven, which was disappointing because only 3 people in total showed up. Lot of last minute cancellations
The second meeting was in Rotterdam, it was a beautiful day and some of us had brought bokken(Katonryu brought his dull metal blade) Couple of new faces and a bunch of new stories. As the hours passed we stopped reading and started sword-fighting
(picshttp://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=13184&id=100001228131075&l=8086b4e17b or a couple of movies on youtube: search fanbbs)
Somebody had mentioned "My Immortal" and we start yapping about good, bad and ugly stories we've read. We also were spoken to by somebody who was distributing flyers and she also was a avid fanfic writer, and promptly joined. We gave her the address of the site but she hasn't show up, yet.
The third and the last for now, was back near The Hague at the home of one of the members. The Hague doesn't like us 'cause it was pouring like crazy. Luckily we were inside and dry so we still had fun. We read a few Dutch stories of KatonRyu when he was young - still better then My Immortal. We surfed the internet, I had brought my 1.36tb harddisk but we didn't use it.
Next meeting is at another home, two people (twins) are celebrating their birthday. We're still working on the details of that meeting.
We aren't a fanfiction club, or planning a webcomic. We are a group of people who like fanfiction and simply come together every month (at the moment.)
The Dutch group sounds a lot like the London group.
We meet in Starbucks every Sunday, drink a lot of coffee, gossip, talk about a lot of different subjects and generally are a little bit odd ball. We sometimes manage to talk about fanfiction, but it's more of a general conversation; bad grammar, slash, reviews, how annoying fanfiction.net can be, and at one point there was a bit of an in-joke about writing ourselves into fanfiction.
Only a few dedicated members, all for different fandoms, but we've been known to beta each others work, and read it. We have a mutual hatred of the Twilight series, and a love of gaming and films between us.
Somehow, we've produced two couples (bawhh fanfiction love!) and occasionally disappear for field trips; eating at restaurants, picnics, gaming sessions, trips to the arcade, house parties and of course - going to the cinema.
But the group has been meeting for nearly a year now, and has gained members, lost members and scared a few newbies off.
We haven't decided to do anything major, like a web comic, but we did try to instigate a meeting at the local convention. Simply put.. I think we've become one little odd ball family.
How big is the London group? Our group is like eight or nine people at most.
The London group sounds like fun! n_n
But yeah, basically, the Zuid-Holland group meets every month or so, mostly on Sundays, because most of us are too busy with school to meet more regularly. We have about seven or eight members, and we've been meeting for.. well, three/four months or so? Feels like forever though :3 Anyhow, it's a really fun group ^^ I've made new friends and they're all amazing ^^
Same with me, never thought I'd like being around other people so muchXD I'm actually becoming social, it's frighteningXD
>>16 Ah, well you guys can be proud of yourselves for being the only active Netherlands group; I've recently discovered that despite the huge number of threads that have been made, the London group is one of the only groups in England that's actually had meetings, aside from I think Newcastle. And it doesn't look like the American threads are having much success either. X3
Those are some cool photos! We have a Facebook group which is here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=13184&id=100001228131075&l=8086b4e17b#!/group.php?gid=237603262521&ref=ts (We call ourselves the "Neo Writers") It has some pictures on it of arcade trips and picnics.
For anyone still watching this thread: The Zuid-Holland group has a name now, too: Team Retard, inspired by none other than Yahtzee Croshaw.
Speaking of facebook, Why don't we have a group there?
Because I'm not going to bother creating a Facebook; I hate Facebook(A)
>>24
Yay for Team Retard!
And I'm kind of glad that our group is the most active, 'cause we have the most awesome people!
I just thought of something though: how awesome would it be if the London group and the Zuid-Holland group could somehow meet!? XD That'd be so kickass!
Though of course, it'll never happen xD But then again, I have something to dream of again~
...Randomness? Yes. Very much!
>>27 I'm all for that:P Maybe it's not so impossible as it seems; we might be able to come up with a way, if the London group is interested too?
I mean, it's not like we're that far apart.
>>28 I can't speak for the London group as a whole, but as just me, who's been with the London Group for ages, I'd love to attempt an international meet up of some sort. Although I don't have a passport as yet, or money. Well, if something were to happen that would make it possible, I'm definitely interested, I'll just say that.
>>6 A bit late, I know, but I am the crazy one, right Holden?
>>29 Well, I think most of us have, now all we really lack is the money. If we could somehow raise the money, which really shouldn't be too hard, it'd be awesome if we could visit London for the sake of a FanBBS meeting.
Well, if the others want it, too, of course. I'm kind of just speaking for myself here, but I know I'm not the only one who'd like to visit London.
>>30 Well, that sounds great. But within the London group there has been some major disorganisation recently.
On paper it sounds like a fantastic idea, but there needs to be some serious working out put into the logistics. I'd be up for trying to do this, but I imagine it would take lots of thought and discussion beforehand. It sounds wonderful, it just might take a while.
>>31
Yeah, that's true, it will require a lot of work and planning and so on, but I'm sure it'll work out somehow ;) It'd be wonderful if we could do this ;)
I would absolutely love it. In fact, I happened to be in London three weeks ago with school - if the programme hadn't be as fully staffed, I'd probably find the time to meet up with the London group as well. But I was too busy, unfortunately. Still feels like a missed chance and I'd love to meet the London group very much. I do happen to have the money, only I don't have the time - perhaps if some of us save some money for the journey? I'll try to figure out how cheap a trip to London can be, but not tonight =P
Okay, never mind, got nothing to do - for us, a journey from Brussels (as far as I know, there is no direct train between Holland and the UK) to London is 35 euros for every one of us(using Eurostar which I used for my journey to London with school as well), not counting in if we're going to sleep there - but I think we will as the journey is too long otherwise - and how much a ticket to Brussels is. A rough estimate would be around... one hundred euros each? Probably more. I'd love if if it happened, but I don't think this is doable, sorry.
It'll probably be the same but just to be on the safe side - how much will it take for the London-group to come to the Netherlands?
The traintickets Cost are 50 euros from Amsterdam Central to Brussel south, where the next train will take you to St. Pancras
est. Traveltime 5 hours 45 minutes. The Intercity to Brussels will call at A'dam CS/ The hague (hs I believe)/ Rotterdam/ Antwerp and Brussels
I can ask around in Schiphol what the best tickets are by plane, (my neighbours are Schiphol Travel International(^_^)) (1 hour travel plus 3 hours check-in)
First look by plane Easyjet 27.99 Per Person when booked for 16-1-2011
>>36
Much cheaper and quicker.
OMG Guys. why didn't you tell me about this. (I'm from the Holland group.)
I know a place to stay. It's nothing amazing, it's a youth hostel near knightbridge metro station. It's like 18 euro's per night so that's acceptble. I stayed there with a friend two years ago. It's nothing classy but if we're just going for a weekend.
@ AlexPhoenixWing: Is it 27,99 for the round trip or just too londen. Can't you score us some cool discount?>>:P
@CharlieWise: Even if it is just to London, 27,99 is still cheaper than a one-way train ticket from The Hague to Deventer, which is quite scary if you think about it:p
Amazing!
I hope you guy's do come over.
I thought I'd recommend to you - Tune Hotel - google it.
They're very very cheap rooms, some of them starting at as little as 1p, in the heart of King's Cross, so excellent transport links in the middle of central London, cheaper places to eat all around, a lot better nice life and once you see the rooms for yourself on the website, you'll realise just how good the value is.
Hope you do come! Would be brilliant to meet you all.
>>41 A room for a penny? Eh? What is the point of that?
An international BBS meet up would be AWESOME. And the prices are surprisingly reasonable. But how many of you guys think you could realistically afford it/have time for it/be allowed to do it? On our end, I know we have a varied collection of school and work commitments (though I have loooong holidays), and most of us don't have the money to spare for international hijinks, plus TVG doesn't have a passport anyway...
One penny for a room? =O That's almost too cheap and I'm wondering how the quality of said room will be, then. I don't want to sleep among the cockroaches ;)
Yes, I do have the money and time, and I also have a passport =) And I'm sure my parents won't have much trouble with me going to London. I'm eighteen, after all, it's my own responsibility. I do think we should do it somewhere in a school holiday, though. Do the other Dutch people have time and money as well?
For the Dutch group:
Ryanair might offer some cheap tickets as well! :-)
Flew to London stansted last year for 30 euros per return tickets.
Bus costs, in order to reach liverpool street station, were around 20 euros.
It would be way too awesome to meet the london group!, my parents would actually love me to go (their not 100%, disturbing because...I don't wanna know what I'll end up likeO.o) the only problem is money, however with a bit of luck I'll got a job within...3/4 weeks. afain, it would be awesome! I do feel sorry for the people of London though:P
Well, I'm 20 so permission's no prob. If the prices are reasonable my parents will even help me get there. As for a passport...I have one, but it expired nearly a year ago and I've yet to get a new one. Still, that's no problem.
All in all, I'd really like to come over and meet the London people. Team Retard meets the Neo-Writers, hell yeah!
>>47 "Team Retard meets the Neo-Writers"... that sounds like a great story title XD Maybe we should write fanfic of the fanfic meet-ups.
*>>46, sorry. I'm not referencing my own post, really. x3
Things to discuss
How many people are going
When are we going? Which airport?
Are we going to stay in London?
When do we want to be back? (afternoon, evening/ When do we need to check in)
I'm so in!!
A weekend is no problem. I'm free on friday so we could leave as early as that. But don't know how you guys are with school and work. I've to be at work at 7:45 AM on monday though. don't really care about the amount of sleep I get that night but i've to be back before that. Kids don't teach themselfs:P.
EasyJet got really cheap Bustickets to the center of londen for like 2 bucks it you buy a planeticket. So which Airport doesn't really matter.
Count me in! Though I still have to ask my parents, I'm sure they'll let me go: I am in the company of, though retarded and technically speaking, adults sooo yeah. I should be able to go. Passport's still good. Money is not an issue for it is almost my birthday! So I can save a bit of money for this ^^
Airport.. I don't care. As long as I'm not flying with some crappy Turkish Airlines and crash and as long as it's reasonably priced. When? Don't plan too soon, it's not all settled yet. And if so, I'd like a holiday or something, and please plan forward so I can cancel work and stuff (:
Airport's not a problem for me too. It's okay if we do it in a weekend, but personally, I prefer a school holiday =) But a weekend will be okay. Count me in, although I do have to be back at 9:15 at school on Mondays. Perhaps we could do this all in the Christmas-holiday?
So Saturday the 18 dec 2010 till 2 jan 2011
Or Springbreak 19 feb 2011 till 27 feb 2011
Although the 22nd Dec(Wednesday) it's my birthday
I'd say around during the Christmas holiday...however we should consider that many people go abroad during those times. If we want to do that, we should book well in advance.
Also, if at all possible I'd like to be home at New Year's eve seeing how 31 Dec is my mom's birthday and we always have tons of fireworks because of it. Aside from that I don't care, up to and including Christmas itself.
Spring break is fine in theory, but I happen to know that last weekend has an important tournament for me, so I'd have to say before that.
I know, I'm a pain in the ass:P
I'm already planning to go to londen this christmas with a friend. Said friend isn't a big fan of FanBBS and absolultly sucks at english so I can't combine the two. Springbreak is acceptble but then again in the weekend pleasen. planning a few days in paris with another friend.
I know I demand a lot but if were planning in advance I think it's okay. And besides the Londen group meets at sunday's right?
so we have to be there by then.
Spring break would be better for me. I like to stay around during Christmas holidays so that's not an option. But it feels like were getting way ahead of things, or is it just me? I mean, we don't even know who's gonna be there, if everything's all okay passport-wise and all that stuff. Just carry on, but take it easy, please (:
>>55 We're not restricted to a Sunday; we can meet up any day that we're all free same as you guys, and have done in the past. But I don't think that our Easter holidays match up with your Spring Break. Our holiday is usually March/April time; mine for example is March 12 - April 20 (though that's unusually long). There's a chance that it might correspond with half term in February, but I don't know the dates for that. (Anyone?) But if it doesn't, then we'd probably need to do a weekend anyway.
>>56 Well the spring is quite far off X3 We have plenty of time to plan, and it seems quite a few have responded to say they can do it. On our end I think we need to decide on a date before any of us will know if we're free. Shall we make a list of people who have said they're in so far?
>>57 Well yeah xD But you know, I'm quite busy now, so everything just maybe seems to move fast.. ehehe~. But making a list sounds good, yeah.
Okay, so from rereading the thread, the people who have said they can probably come are:
Aver
Idrill (once money is sorted out)
AlexPhoenixWing (I'm assuming, since you're more or less directing the organisation of it :p)
CharlieWise
AnneCupcake
KatonRyu?
Of course it all depends on the date and individual availability, but these are the people for whom passports, permission and money shouldn't be a problem. If all of us Londoners can make it then there'll be seven of us; of course we've each got jobs or schooling that we need to organise around, but it's just like a normal meeting for us anyway.
My vote goes out to Christmas Holiday for a very good reason. I'm in my final year now and while things are going pretty smoothly right now, but I think I'll have to waste my spring break on preparing for my final exams. I don't want to - and I probably can't anyway - do that in London. So please, please, Christmas break? Preferably in a period of time where there's no Christmas or New Year. Otherwise I won't be able to join you guys and I would hate it if that were to happen ;)
I'm with KatonRyu, though, we'll probably have to book really early =)
I got money you guys! now just small bits extra and everything should turn out just fineXD
This all sounds so incredible, and it's all been happening while my internet was cut :(. Anyway, so long as timing is arranged this should be very possible. I'm getting all excited just thinking about it, I can even feel a screech bubbling up under the surface (Neo-Writers know what that means).
I was thinking, providing we're free, considering out wonderful counterparts in Holland are making the effort to travel over here, we do everything in our power to be at the airport to meet them? I'm doing this partially for selfish reasons, I've never been to an airport and would like the excuse to go to one.
I don't know if this goes without saying or something, but I thought I'd just say it anyway. I cannot wait to have an international BBS Meeting!
DFTBA! (Is there anyone in the Holland group who knows what that means, or is a Nerdfighter, btw? If not nevermind, it just means Don't Forget To Be Awesome.)
>>60 xD There's no way that we would organise a meeting on like Christmas Eve/Day or New Year's Eve/Day because almost everyone has celebrations and family stuff to go to on those days - it would be downright silly. So fear not.
>>62 A trip to the airport could be pretty fun :) We can stand in Arrivals holding up a sign reading 'FANBBS' or 'TEAM RETARD' and get weird looks xD Just so long as we figure out which airport and flight, and set aside travel costs.
And please, we're all awesome all the time anyway. x3
@ Aver (and ofcourse the rest) I really can't do christmas holliday. That would mean bying two tickets over the break and a hell of a lot of planning. and spring break isn't your last break before finals. you'll still have 'may-vacantion' and even though we're all nerds would you really be spending your entire springbreak studying?
>>63 Go for big huge signs with TEAM RETARD on it. that would be so cool!
DFTBA!
>>64 Ah, just prod her in this general direction then. I don't think all of our members are up on this plan, but we're having a meeting on Sunday so we can discuss it then.
>>67 Already done:P And same with us, so we'll have an IRL talk about it too, even though we're pretty much all in on it:P
>>65 If people's availability really becomes a problem we could always organise two meets, during Christmas and spring respectively... might be an idea?
>>69 If that's what we're going for, I'm there both times!
>>64 Yeah I'm in! I just have to make sure I have enough money to go ^^; But as long as we get the right date set out, it should be fine. I think.
>>70 Yes, that makes all of us! Consider Team Retard complete in the ' wanting to go' department:P
gwaaa I'm getting so excited!! lol, I feel sorry for the people at the airport , but I totally vote for the team retard signXDXDXD the date doesn't mean a damn thing to me, If I got the money I'll be there both times too!
We do need to make sure we don't offend anyone with a sign like that... it's not very PC X3
>>73 Add a huge tl;dr disclaimer at the bottom:P that'll keep people away:P
>>74 Yes... who understand net slang. i.e. no-one. X3
>>74 Yeah XD
And I feel like we're missing someone.. Or isn't RL&CE coming along?
>>77 Ohhh I SEE. I thought you meant actually write "tl;dr" XD
Hmm, maybe we could do that then.
>>79 It'd definitely make people look:P And isn't that what we're gunning for?XD
>>80 X3 We're mostly gunning for you guys to see it and us. The weird looks will just be a bonus. Kind of like an arrow pointing in our direction.
>>81 A huge neon arrowXD Just imagine the grins on our faces when we come through those doors, seeing a sign with 'TEAM RETARD' on it, followed by a huge disclaimer:P That'd definitely be the most awesome welcome sign ever madeXD
don't forget, we named ourselves TEAM RETARD, so weird looks are meant for us, we'll be traumatized if not, at least I will. that mean I'm more normal than I thoughtO.o
Traumatized if people DON'T look at us weirdly, yeah:P
means* (previous post from meeeee)I can't stand it when I read something again and notice a dumb typo /\Twitch/\
Hi!! I'm RL & CE and I'm proudly part of TEAM RETARD ^_^
You nearly forgot about me, didn't you...
Just watch your backs on our special b-day meeting.
!About the International meeting in London... I'm in! You guys pick a date and I'll tell you if I can make it. I think I can handle the finance part. Permission won't be a problem. And for the passport thing... I'll use the one that hasn't been taken from me during missions to spy on England for Russia.
This is amazing. I can get a sign made up, it's kind of my thing (and I promise it will be more durable than the last one) so, do I just have the text 'TEAM RETARD' or is there something else? I'm not altogether convinced that a disclaimer is necessary if I'm honest. But, if the majority rules, then so shall it be.
Also, I reserve the right to wear Harold, my bat, when we go to the airport. I know that some members of the Neo Writer's hate him, but he's never been to an airport either. Also, you have to admit it's fairly difficult to miss him. Team Retard will find out what I mean soon enough.
>>87
What did Russia want in England then? I swear those missiles were just for decorative purposes. Honest, I wasn't gonna use them. Much.
>>88 Well, I don't think it's necessary, really, but if we want to get even more looks you might want to do itXD Can't wait to find out about your bat, whatever that may be:P Is it like, a baseball bat? Or one with wings?:P
>>88 TVG DO NOT WEAR THE BAT. I don't hate it, but I know when you should and shouldn't wear it. We're going to have a huge-ass sign, we don't need anything else to make us be seen. The visibility thing is not a good reason and you know it XP Also, the sign hardly needs to be durable since it's a one-use thing. Don't bother with a proper picket sign (however much you want to make one), just make like a banner that we can hold. Oh, and it should totally be colourful! With stars and swirlies and things! If you don't wanna decorate it then I'll pretty it up ^^
When I said 'durable' I just meant 'made out of more solid material than notebook paper' like card or something. And yes, colours go without question.
Ok, I'll make a compromise, I'll bring Harold, but I won't wear him. Of course, if anyone from Team Retard wants to try him on at some point, who would I be to say no? And yeah, it's one with wings, effectively just an old Halloween decoration that I'm attached to.
Lol, expect it to happen, we named ourselves team Retard for a reasonXD
I'm picturing a bat costume... XD
...Yeah me too XD
Team Retard has a meet tomorrow, so we'll try to sort things out about the travelling-part^^ Really looking forward to said meet, but that's off-topic. I'm very curious about your Retard-Banner! =D
I really don't wanna see a bat costume at the moment, I just watched DayBreakers and the first thing that scared the hell out of me was a freakin bat. XD
Lol, I've seen that film. Really wasn't as good as I was expecting, to be honest. And it's just a little bat. Really, a tiny one.
A bat costume. Oh, the high pitched noises in my head are giving me all sorts of ideas that I'm sure the Neo Writers would rather I didn't have. Ok, calming down now.
Hmm, something just occurred to me. We'll probably be trading numbers and emails and what have you at some point, but on here there's no way of doing that privately. I suggest using fanfiction.net's private message service, and putting the link to our pages in our names on here. I know some of us already do that, I'm just throwing a privacy-logistics kind of idea out there.
same here, movie was pretty badXD that last is a good idea, mosnkof the time I'm just too lazy to put in the link :P
For me, you can use the private form on my website or the message service - either way, it's fine by me. But I think we should wait a little longer with exchanging such stuff until we're 100% certain that a meet is going to happen =)
Woo! 100 posts!
>>97 Well when it comes to telephone numbers, we might as well make use of the Neo-Writers hotline that Scourge set up, which can act as a single contact number for all of us. That is providing he makes an appearance at this meeting, considering he's yet to post in this thread. But I think he just hasn't checked the BBS lately.
As for emails, do we need those if we've got this thread? I don't see what we would need to say through email that we can't say here. Unless it's exchanging phone numbers, in which case, see above.
But anyway, for once I do agree that we're getting ahead of ourselves with these sorts of details. We still need to establish... Christmas or Spring Break? When are we gonna meet?
I know, we're not up to that stage yet, but, as we get further into the planning, eventually we'll get there, I just wanted to put a suggestion in early.
As long as it's not so early that we've forgotten about it by the time it becomes relevant x3
I say Spring Break. I really can't come on Christmas due to money lack and me needing to spend it with my family. So I prefer Spring Break ;)
Our meeting starts in about an hour orso. We'll talk about when we're comming over and maybe look at prices and stuff.
I have to say, although Christmas would be nice, when it comes to our group at least two of us are not sure they'll be free at all due to work commitments, so Spring Break (half term) looks a lot more likely.
Heh, so we actually both had meetings on the same day XD How did yours go? Ours was good, actually the highest number of us (5) that we've had since... the beginning of the summer or something like that. It's quite silly how busy we've all been :/ but inevitable I guess. Hell, I'm not even based near London any more xD But the thread for my current area (Cambridge) died a death, along with most of the rest of them.
voor de Assassin;s creed spelers onder ons http://rebuildbrotherhood.us.ubi.com/site.php
Oops wrong thread, but still similar for those among us who play Assassin's creed
Our meeting was loads of fun ^_^ Made some plans and had some discussions about when we're going to visit you guys. Not really sure what the outcome is... At some point everyone lost their concentration, I guess.
How was yours?
>>109 Hey, we ARE Team Retard. No one expects us to be focused:P
Oops, sorry.... still not focused much, I think.
I LOVE SQUEAKY TOYS!!!! especially when they are purple ^_^
Unfortunately, we decided exactly the opposite; our lame schools have decided to have spring break on two different times, and I don't think anyone has the energy or the money for two meets in two weeks. Also, we'd like to travel as a group, so we'd like to go all at once.
If Christmas break doesn't work, then I suggest we go for summer break instead?
Yeah, this is going to get complex.
I have a feeling that even though I'll have a job I'll probably have Sundays free, but that doesn't really help.
As for the purple squeaky Bat toy, I'm leaning towards calling him Vladimillion. I have a feeling he'll make a facebook appearance eventually, but no idea when.
Okay, let's boil it down to the basics:
When does everyone start their Christmas holidays?
Which would be easiest?
What are your groups commitments?
Would it be easier to come mid week, and not weekend?
While in London, is there anything in particular you would like to do?
Once these are all sorted, it'll be easier to plan. My schedule is flexible while still planning because I can say no to overtime and book days off.
If you guys come over at Christmas, I would LOVE LOVE LOVVEEEE to come over for the Summer!
hmmm 17th of december, am I right guys?? That's on a friday. If we could leave that day... we'd have loads of time left and still be home for christmas, ne pas?
All righty, well if we're looking at Christmas again then I'm free from as early as 4th December until about... the 8th January? Or something? Basically, ridiculously long holidays at the Bridge xD I think I will have some work at my old job for part of it, but that won't take up more than a few days a week.
I got the impression that some of you couldn't do Christmas at all though?
As for the summer, a trip to Holland would be AWESOME but I don't know how many of us can afford it X3 And TVG is actually unable to leave the country due to not having a passport. Anyway, it'll depend on whether we manage to meet up at Christmas as to who goes to visit whom over the summer, n'est-ce pas?
My Christmas-holiday starts the 18th so I won't be able to join you the 17th then, but I think it's cool if we leave the 18th and stay there for... a weekend? Or maybe a little bit longer?
Cilia had the problem that she was having a holiday somewhere else already, but I've got no idea when that starts, unfortunately...
(And when in London, I'd love to go into the Millenium Wheel)
Oh so now we're moving onto Christmas? =P
I really don't think I can come then. First of all because of the money, I mean, I still have to get my paycheck, and because I probably need to work and spend Christmas with my parents. I'll see what I can do to make it work anyways, but I don't guve you guys any guarantee.
>>118 xD A ride on the Millennium Wheel? Yeah, it is pretty cool. I went on it as a Year 6 leaving trip when I was 11. Let's not do ALL the major sights, though, because otherwise it'll just turn into a massive touristfest and we won't have time for any fanfic talk! But we should definitely show you to some geeky hangout spots, like Forbidden Planet.
>>119 I hope you can work something out :/ It'd be really nice to meet the complete Team Retard, and I hope that the whole Neo Writers group will be represented on our end as well. When does your paycheque come in?
We're not going if there's one person missing... we decided on that. We have to have that experience with the whole team. We don't call ourselves a team for nothing :p Right guys?
>>120 I've been on the Millennium Wheel before, but that was a few years ago and it's always good to see the whole of London =) I really liked it the first time I was there.
>>119 Anne, when did your Christmas holiday start, again?
>>121 I get warm fuzzies just by reading that comment^^ But I fear that will mean we'll have to postpone it to summer break... ah well, at least that means we'll have plenty of time to plan things!
>>122 Wow, I live in London, and I've never been on the Wheel. I've gone to a Nerdfighter gathering on the grass outside of the Wheel place, but I've not been on it. I hang my funny looking head in shame.
As for the rest. It does seem that this Christmas might be a bit of a tricky thing to pull off afterall. In all seriousness, the summer is probably the best time to do this, that way we all have a wonderful amount of time to plan and clear our schedules. Not to mention, I'd have enough time to acquire a passport, just in case. I really like the idea that if one person can't come then the rest of you won't, this is the sort of thing where one person missing out because of unfortunate logistics is a real tragedy.
Besides, Harold and Vladimillian would really like to meet you all, even if it'll take a while.
>>120 I hope soon xD Probably around the end of the month or something, so it won't be long. But then again, I have some things to buy so I don't know what'll be left of it xD But I still got my little birthday-depot stacked away somewhere to use for the London trip.
>>122 I dunno, and right now, I don't feel like checking xD But I'll dig up my year-guide for school tomorrow, so I'll let you know then (:
And I still have to ask my parents if it's okay if I go in with Christmas instead of Spring Break, but I'll let you guys know soon enough ;)
>>123 So NOW you will consent to get a passport. x3 Well, whatever it takes.
>>124 Well I hope you have success on both counts :3 There's always the summer, but the problem is that I don't have a CLUE what's going on during my summer at the moment - I'm expected to spend like a month or two in China - so it's really impossible to plan and anything that we do plan could turn out to be unfeasible a few months down the line. So it seems like there'd be no point making plans just yet.
I guess we can say the meeting will happen... eventually ^_^
...And on that note, the discussion promptly died. x3
Is that it? Are we putting it on hold for now?
I am not sure. I work full-time so all I have to do is say to my boss when I want a few days off. He'll be delighted. I work too hard, the only days I've taken off in three years time was when he kicked me out of the store. Usually with some arbitrary mission like 'take pictures in the city, and AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT!!'
The problem mostly is the timing of school holidays, although I'd be happy to stay two weeks ^_^
Money isn't really an issue, I could pay for the whole group if needed. None of them really take the offer. I wonder why.
Passports shouldn't be a trouble since we are by law required to have a valid European ID or Passport with us at all time.
So yeah, only trouble is the date.
For me, anything goes except New Year's Eve. It's my mom's birthday, meaning lots of relatives and friends, all with their own fireworks, plus our own. I've never missed it, and it's the one thing I never want to miss. Christmas...meh, I don't like it and spending it away from home is no problem.
For me only money is the problem, but with a bit of luck I get a job in 2 weeksXD
Again, only time is the problem for me - so, is it going to be Christmas break? If not, I'm afraid we'll have to postpone it to the summer-break.
WE ALLL NEED TO F*CKING BE THERE!!! GOT IT?!
sorry, hormones...
That's okay, your pain is felt. We just have to work this out, it'll be fine, I'm sure.
Hmm this thread needs a little life again xD
Anyhow, I still don't know if I'm able to come with Christmas break. I guess not, my money is really working against me right now, so, yeah. I'll see if I can do anything that might make me able to go, but for now, count me out.
I'll let you guys know whenever I have news (:
Didn't AlexPhoenixWing say he'd be able to pay for others too? If not, I'm sure I can pay your ticket if possible(I guess all Alexanders are generous). I don't think money needs to be an issue for you =) However, do you have the time to go?
(P.S. We just decided that if one of us isn't going, no-one is going... so if you're staying, then we're staying too =P)
Oh, I have a question that I've been wondering about, I hope you guys don't mind me asking: how many guys and girls do you have in your group? What's the ratio like? Out of our seven current members there are 3 guys and 4 girls, so it's pretty even.
3 guys 5 girls
Wow, quite similar then. Even when our groups do meet up the guys will still be outnumbered. I'm liking this more every time I learn something new about Team Retard.
YAY!
xD Are you so keen for the guys to be outnumbered?
I'm actually kind of indifferent, I just think it's interesting that both groups have more females than males.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!! SCOOOOORE!!! I MADE THE POSTSCORE EVEN!! NOT REALLY IN A LEGAL SORT OF WAY, BUT HEY... IT'S EVEN XD
The real decider will be to see who gets to 1000 posts first though. x3
>>141 Oh, I'm not at all surprised. I find that female authors on FF.net in general far outnumber the males.
hmm.. maybe there should be.
>>133 RL & CE Hormones...??? Is there something you've been keeping from your beloved team??
I think we need to have a real talk about the londen meet guys. Alex and Alex thanks for the generous overs, but it's a lot of money and I didn't have it myself I don't think I would have taken your offer. So I don't expect anyone else to do it. But if and only if our members that have to go to school, don't have time for a job and arn't born to rich people would take your offers we could have a look for chrismasbreak.
So to team retard MSN tonight??
RL & CE: I'll keep you updated by text..
Maybe?.. there should be more hot, sexy writers!!! :D
Is it possible if we go on MSN tomorrow, Charlotte? I've still got to get to my daily 1667 words and it's really late -.- Can we do it tomorrow, please?
I'll be smug here, then. We won, hell yeah! Team Retard ftw!
Lols, it was kind of unfair though. For the bulk of the typing war there were only two of us and I didn't have time to work out how many of you. Even so, a win is a win, I suppose.
So, how can we top this if we were to meet in person? I mean, I'm not really one for sports, but the competativeness just now was fun. According to the BBS competativeness is not a word. I disregard that rule.
And now I've forgotten what I was saying. This was why I needed cookies. And spamming was just so much easier.
Well first off it would be spelt "competitiveness", and secondly the actual word you're looking for is "competition".
I don't really have any desire for a real-life competition, though. There's no real need, the post war was just something random that arose out of coincidence, and we don't need to go out of our way to recreate that set of circumstances anywhere else.
well, enchantedsleeper... does that mean you´re scared to lose? AGAIN!
Nah, just kiddin'
Unless somewone wants another competition? a real life one? Count me in ^_^
I was thinking of something as pointless as a post war, for instance shouting a silly word every time you see a specific thing while we're out. Like every time we see a phone box we could shout 'SQUIGGLE' and whoever shouts first wins the point.
And damn, I'm really crap with wordy things.
What is this I don't even
grin Point made?
I'll participate in a Twitter based, city wide game of Hide and Seek...
NEO WRITERS FTW.
A Twitter-based game of Hide And Seek? XD I didn't want to participate in a real-life competition, but this sounds interesting XD Sadly, I haven't got Twitter.
To all Team Retard-members: can we all come online this afternoon to talk about the London-meet?
Sorry, I don't do Twitter either. Somehow I haven't the urge to notify everyone when I eat a cookie or take a shit.
COOOKIEEEEE
sorry,:A
Am I the only one who is in for the real life thingy ? I feel like squiggling now
Nah, I'm in for real life. Tell me what kind of competetion. Not soccer/football, though. I hate that sport with a vengeance.
WE SHOULD TOTALLY HAVE A NERFGUN FIGHT DUDES.
Nerfgun? No idea what that is, but I'm happy for a competition. Preferably something geeky. Like seeing how many lamp posts you can walk into within a one hour time period. I could do that.
Believe me, Nerf is, in some way, kind of geeky :3
But your idea sounds cool too 8D
Nerfgun eh... I have no idea what it is, but I'm sure I'll kick your asses XD
Repeat...
To all Team Retard-members: can we all come online this afternoon to talk about the London-meet?
As it's evening now, shall we all come online tomorrow evening to discuss the London meet?
I'm drinkin' tomorrow... no drivin'.
>>160 I lol'd. My thoughts exactly.
Also, Rayo suggested Quazar (laser tag) XD
Laser tag is fun!!
I can't say I've really played it before. Once I got to join in on one of my brother's (or brother's friends', I can't remember) Quazar birthday parties because someone dropped out, but no-one ever explained to me how it worked so I had no idea what was going on xD I seem to remember that my gun ran out of charge/bullets and I spent the whole time running around trying to find where to recharge it.
I've played it twice now, once with school and once in france. Though it's reaaaaally fun my aiming skills appear to be...not very good
Bump
I have the annoying habit to keep on repeating myself until somebody is answering my question. So, for the third time...
Is it a good idea if all Retards come online tomorrow afternoon, five o'clock-ish? Or perhaps on Sunday? I can't come online the day after tomorrow, unfortunately.
>>176 Uh.. tomorrow is today, so, 5 o'clock.. meh, I gotta work at that time, don't think I can make it. Sunday.. maybe. I have a busy life :<
I can't promise anything since I'm not sure I'll be home by then, but I'll try
duuuuudes. Are we still on this idea or did it die?
... summer... right? Long way 'till we get there... XD
Meh, okay xD
Right, time for the revival of an old idea. July'll be here faster than we think, after all =)
How about setting a date for the London/South-Holland crossover? I don't think I've got anything planned for summer break, so I'm willing to hear any date!
Uhm, I'm going to France for two weeks, I just don't know the exact dates, but I will let you guys know, cause I really want to do this! =D Would be so awesome n_n
Well I've got the first week of. my vacation starts july the 28th, and after that I'll be gone for 2 weeks (And when I'll be 18 when I get back YAY)
July 28thO_o What kind of horror date is that? My vacation starts like a month earlier. But yeah, we should definitely start looking for a date; I really want to do this.
Oh, forgot to mention (although it really isn't that important) that I'm away for the first week of june. I'm heading to Rome with my family^^ I'm also going to France for two weeks, but I don't have the slightest clue when that's going to happen. Neo Writers are happily invited to respond =)
Yay discussion revival! Unfortunately, I don't know anything more about my summer than the last time we discussed this sweatdrop But it looks like I'll be largely free. The only thing I have definitely going on is a month spent in China. I may also be working part-time but that's easily worked around. So it gives me about two months free, I just don't know which ones xD
Oh great XD When exactly do you know which two months you're free? (Please let them be July and August, that makes planning a bit easier for us =P)
I'm one of those unemployed useless people. As far as I can tell I have nothing happening whatsoever. And if my family does go anywhere, I can easily arrange that I be left home alone, so that's no biggie.
So, I'm cool with pretty much any day/s week/s month/s imaginable.
To Team Retard: I found someone (a good friend of mine) who also wants to come 8D I think I'll bring her to a meeting or two sometime so you can all see her and decide whether or not you'd like her to come with us on this epic trip xD She's not sure yet, but: sounds like a plan? or not?
To everyone: Probably, I'm in France somewhere around week 31/33: I'll give the exact dates soon, but for the rest of the vacation, I'm free!
>>188 Uh, I think I'm likely to be free in August? I'm hoping to keep it free anyway.
Good, so it'll be August, then?
(Internet at my home decided to not be available until probably next Wednesday -.- So sorry for my late reaction, currently writing this at my mum's work)
August is fine by me.... I think. I have no idea what the rest of my plans are for the summer, so I'll just have to plan around this.
August is fine however I won't be back until the 10th;
Um, I'm away till like, the 13th of August? Something like that. And I have yet to check when school starts again.
If everyone makes sure we have the vacationdates with them on out next meet. We can set a date!!!!!!!
I think it's time to bump this thread^^ Team Retard has set a sort-of date: it is the best for us if the London-journey starts the 16th and ends the 20th. How does that suit you guys?
(Oh, and sometimes I check the London-thread and I couldn't help but notice... enchantedsleeper, your birthday is one day before mine XD)
Haha, really? Yours is the 22nd? :D
August 16-20th sounds perfectly fine to me. I've got no plans whatsoever anyway.
I look forward to seeing you!
I actually don't think I'll be free in August after all... Sorry!! >_< My China trip looks like it's gonna be a lot later than I thought.
Also, I think it's fari to warn you that we think Scourgeofthegalaxy and Holden Caulfield might have left the group, so, there are fewer of us now.
I'm not happy about it, but there's not really anything I can do.
Just though I'd give you guys a head's up.
Aww that's a shame really, maybe if we really will all be able to make it they'll come along too? It would be fun to meet the whole Neon writers group and stuff:D
...by the way, which one of you got the Bat thing? please don't tell me it's one of the two that might have left...I'm curious about the bat thing...
Well, we might be able to get them back for you guys, but I can't be sure.
As for the bat thing, that's all me. Kind of a long story, can't wait to tell it.
Anyway, that's what's going on with us, take care.
Thanks =) I'm kinda curious though and don't answer it if you don't feel you should - but why have the two of them left the Neo Writers? Because you sound like a great group of friends to have.
Tehehe I can't wait to hear it. But we'll see what happens, let's hope for them to return:D I agree with Aver though, are they busy with studies or something, or is something crappy going on?:(
Well, Holden and Scourge were going out, then we found out through facebook that they had broken up. We haven't heard anything from either of them since before xmas really, so, that's all I can say because that's all I know.
It is sad, it really is, but there isn't really anything that I can do about it. I can try to contact them, but if they don't want to respond...
Anyway, I know for a fact I'll be there to see you. Can't really speak for anyone else though.
>>209 Of course we're all going to be there - all the current members of the Neo Writers. It's not worth doing unless we're all there.
And how is the bat a long story? xD
>>211 Thanks, you too! ^^
I still don't have exact dates for my trip, having gone from not having a clue what I might be doing to having TOO many options to choose from, but the one thing they all seem to have in common is that they take place right at the end of the summer, i.e. late June to August. :/
And it's even more annoying because Lin Waddell probably won't be around earlier in the summer... he'll be in Bermuda.
>>210 Well, the bat thing's been going on for a long while, and there are many bats with many names now, so it adds up to more than a one-shot in my opinion.
And yeah, Lin being in Bermuda had crossed my mind once or twice. It would be such a shame if he wasn't there to meet you, but that I certainly have no control over.
Anyway, I'll still be there, I'm certain, so, see you when I see you?
Yup:D (yeah useful post I know)
>>213 No no, we ALL need to be there.
It'd be awesome if you guys could come to the MCM Expo, thinking about it now, but it's in May so exam season. (You'd think they would hold it at a better time). And in October.
ok I got the week of 15-21 august off, so let's start planning this thing. plane/train - hotel - activities (City card perhaps?) - public transport card. and who is going - the main group or also the newer members?
Is it okay if all TR-members try to be online next Friday?
If you decide to fly into Heathrow airport, I'm more than willing to meet you guys there to help you navigate the underground, get oyster cards (London travel cards) and get to your accommodation. Because I live very close to that airport.
>>216 Are you really insistent on coming to London in August? Because at this rate there'll only be two Neo-Writers there and it really seems to me like it wouldn't be worth the trip...
>>219 The problem is, it is only in the week of 15 to 21 august that all TR-members are free...
Well... that IS kind of the time everybody over here is free for travel to the UK- so let's turn it around.. when would you be able to meet with us, when we go to London.
I'm going nowhere, ever, so any time during the year works for me. So long as I don't have to sleep. And my kitten doesn't need taking to the vet. Other than that I'm good.
It's always fun if nobody reacts -sigh- Fine then, I'll add a time to it.
Is it okay for all TR-members to come online on Sunday, one o'clock PM?
...Never mind, forgot YaYcon XD Shall we make it monday, half past seven PM, then?
When are all the Neo-Writers able to lead us through London? Perhaps we can set a date where most people are able to go, instead of all...
.... Silence ....
Are APW and me the only ones who still believe in this? =(
Ah, right, we've accidentally abandoned the BBS. Not on purpose, it's just, we won't be having a big meeting until around June, because too many people are either going back to uni, or on holiday, or they have work... I'm the only one without an excuse really.
So, knowing that there won't be a meeting for a while, most of us aren't really typing in the Offline Meeting section.
Yeah, about the meeting you guys... there's no easy way to say this, but summer might not work.
#scuttles away from the computer to dodge the rotten vegetables that are sure to fly at me#
I think the thing is that we just didn't think enough about it. I can't type for everyone because I can't remember everything they said, but the consensus is that the time which you seem to have found in which all of you are free is a time in which not all of us are free. August in general seems to be a chaotic month for a few people. And the thing is, when we do this, we want to be able to make sure that every single one of us can do it as well, otherwise we're not being fair.
I think I should probably discuss with the others before I say anymore.
I think you guys aren't the only ones having trouble with the whole meet. I, for exapmle, Have no money left by the time it's august. So going to London might be a bit wishful thinking on my part.
I still think it's a wonderful idea and it would be a great trip ^^
yeah I agree with RL&CE. It's a lovely idea and I really do think we must do it some other time, but I'm afraid it just won't work for the most of us. Can't speak for everyone in the Zuid-Holland thread, but I'm busy with work (two jobs!) and I don't know how my money's gonna work out either... ^^;
-hides for the wrath of APW and Aver-
I'm so thankful I'm not the only one with this problem... XD I feel like such a loser without my powerful money, even though I know I'm awesome ^^
Come to think of it... can't you guys just pay me for my awesomeness? (A)
So, just to make things clear... are we going to postpone it or cancel it in its entirety?
I'd say postpone (: I do really like the idea, I just think it won't work for me this year, just because there's too much stuff I need to do and money troubles and so... :C
I'd say postpone (: I do really like the idea, I just think it won't work for me this year, just because there's too much stuff I need to do and money troubles and so... :C
Sorry for the double post xD happens with iPads :P
I'd also say postpone, not cancel. We can do this, we just need to find a way to make it possible and affordable and all sorts of other things.
I'm sure we can do this, I know we in the Neo Writers want to do this just as much as you.
I figured something like this would happen. it's a shame but if we can't go, we can't go.
The problem is that the Dutch group doesn't have a central location, otherwise we might have done this the other way around
Neo-writers to the Netherlands.
to the neo-writers: What are the best dates for us to come meet the team?
to TR: when do you guys have the time to go to London, (School, work, etc)
How long would the trip be? (1 day, 4 days, 7 days?)
My future is really uncertain at the moment... XD money- and timewise.
I think the best question for now would be: 'What is the cheapest time of the year to visit London?'
But maybe we should reconsider this idea after the summer holidays???
I was thinking, perhaps we could try visit London somewhere in our autumn holiday, then? Or the first week of Christmas holiday? Because I'm guessing we're going to need a holiday for that anyhow...
Anyway, I know I can always make time for a trip to London as long as school isn't bothering me.
And we can put this on hold until after the summer holidays - but I fear we'll have exactly the same problem then, with people being unable to go and stuff... isn't it better if we start planning it right now, then?
I can't say yes to anything at the moment XD So you can figure things out for the autumn or something, but I can't tell you if it's possible for me or not. Aaaand autumn equals Anne & Cilia's birthdays ^^
Shall we just try keeping a week free? Say... autumn holiday and the first week of the christmas holiday, just in case?
Ah, sorry for the silence guys. I forgot to check this BBS for a while. Yeah, I'm afraid my summer has turned out to be much more full than I expected and I only have like 3 or 4 weeks where I can actually say I'm free. But I'm glad I'm not the only one in that boat.
When's autumn holiday for you guys? Personally, I'm free for the whole of September, and after that I can still probably make it to London for like a weekend if you guys wanna come over then. But I'm quite lucky in that my uni year starts really late; other people's don't, unfortunately. But if it was just a weekend, I think people would be able to manage that easier, and it'd be cheaper for you guys. What d'you think?
If it's in september I can probably make it. I ain't sure when my holdiays will start, but as soon as I know I'll let you know.
I'm also fine with just a weekend, Meeting the neo writers will be awesome anyway.
Sounds like a lot is going with you guys, best of luck to y'all:D
=D Thanks!
