Favourite genre of fanfics (84)

1 Name: Cali : 2010-05-12 10:59 ID:8sxCs5fL

I know some people particularly search out romance fanfics to read or can only write angst ones, etc. So I was wondering what do you like to read and/or write?

2 Name: MegaUnknownxx : 2010-05-12 12:22 ID:WOJjKb8y

I tend to read and write angst/romance mainly.

3 Name: Marth : 2010-05-12 13:16 ID:ZW2YhuKT

Sci-fi darkfic, when I can get it. Unfortunately, my main fandom is a magical girl show. XD

4 Name: Iaculus : 2010-05-12 14:44 ID:fuOySqGk

(points to own profile).

And who says magical girl shows are incompatible with those?

Admittedly, Nanoha is something of a special case - to the best of my knowledge, not many series of that genre involve beam scythes, military-grade cyborgs, and technosorcerous starships capable of obliterating the Greater London area in a single shot.

... They totally should, though.

5 Name: tiger002 : 2010-05-13 21:53 ID:5UkGoEBj

My favorites are adventure or random comedy. Not much for romance, but it can be good.

6 Name: RayRay : 2010-05-14 02:42 ID:B+qi7d28

In typical girl fashion, I like a good romance, but I prefer it if it's couple with darkness and trouble happening... rather than just a sappy love story where everything goes right all the time. So on that note, I'd say probably Drama/Romance... possibly a little angst as well.

7 Name: Felton0fanatic : 2010-05-14 11:57 ID:tNvQ1Bm2

Hm, I like fluff... And it's uber easy to write, and I enjoy romance- The ones with "Oh no, <Name1> is with <Name2>, I feel so betrayed even though we aren't dating and I wish we were! Waaaah!" type of stuff. I hate angst, and can't write it, partly because my facial expression relfects the stuff I'm writing, so if I write angst, my face adopts a really depressed look.

And I love Genfics. Genfics rule.

8 Name: BlackMage16 : 2010-05-14 16:17 ID:KXNZjQbS

Humor ftw. I love random crack, though nothing beats a good story, regardless of the genre. Be that as it may...
Humor ftw. =D

drama-romance or romance with lots of drama :P, the biggest the drama the better.
I like also angst but I am a really big sucker of romance, as long as my fav characters are treated well. as the lesbian couple they are with Haruka being a woman and not a freaking man, and Michiru being a lesbian and not a straight woman.

I do read though all types of H&M stories, except songfics I don't touch them at all.

10 Name: MegaUnknownxx : 2010-05-21 09:22 ID:WOJjKb8y

>>9 I know what you mean in regards to songfics. Some are good, but ironically these are the ones which could've stood alone as a fic without the lyrics. The ones that really irritate me are those that have the entire song with a couple of sentences at the begining and end which is meant to work as the plot

11 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-22 02:33 ID:btk+tsVX

>>10
It is okay if the character sings a song, I have done that but only like a chorus of a song in the middle of chapter, with lines of thoughts interrupting every other lyric. that way it is okay with me. but normally songfics have all the lyrics, with as you said few sentences ta the beginning and the end. I mean what the hell if I want to read some lyrics I'm going to do so ;s

I do not read poetry either...I do not get poetry especially in a foreign language, as english is to me.

Anonymous is a professor of maths? I suddenly feel my respect for them increase. It would be even better if they hadn't used speech marks and an apostrophe at the beginning, and then just an apostrophe at the end. T'was copied off the internet, methinks.

29 Name: fan-to-fiction : 2010-06-11 10:15 ID:PRwzcvNF

To get back on the subject in this thread, I read anything as long as it is well written OR has a good plot (it's a bonus if the story has both)

30 Name: Wraith Fan : 2010-06-16 11:40 ID:kvKvdCT2

I just like stories that have a good plot and/or very nice descriptions. Favourite subjects would be vampire, anything fantasy/magic-related, science fiction etc.

One-shots can be real good sometimes but it shouldn't feel like a 'chapter' you know. Or a very short chapter ;-) So usually I do prefer longer stories cause some one-shots make me ask myself 'how does this continue?' ...

Lots of chapters is good but once I saw a fanfic with 50 chapters... That was a bit over the top :-P I like for a story to take some time to evolve but boring chapters just for the sake of writing chapters I don't like, usually I end up skipping chapters then anyway ;-)

Slash can sometimes be very very good BUT most slash is either without a purpose, totally impossible (and sometimes worth reading because it's just so damn funny!)or extremely short. Same can be said for female/male pairings. I like for it to still have an actual 'story' and not just descriptions of kissing and making love, you know, something more story-like ;-)

Greetz: Wraith Fan -xXx-

31 Name: jestervalaia : 2010-06-17 04:45 ID:NZ1dgDQR

I don't really write it all that well, but I love well written horror. Especially when combined with drama.

I also like horror/romance. Though, I don't think it's the easiest of genres to write - or at least to write well.

On the matter of romance fanfics - I'm not so big on fanfics that border on explicit erotica. Subtlety seems to be a forgotten art. That and it seems like half the fanfic writers are still only in their early teens and most likely don't really know that much about it. Or at least, they shouldn't.

32 Name: Corona 1 : 2010-06-17 13:40 ID:clTVUVLV

I mainly enjoy reading and writing adventure fics. I also like romances.

33 Name: Rowana Renee' : 2010-06-30 04:49 ID:usQD6+NT

I like hurt/comfort, angst, fluff (Not an official genre, but mostly found in family), fantasy, really anything except western or Romance (Bane of my existence) XP

34 Name: DancingRaindrops : 2010-06-30 08:29 ID:r+t6EyXo

Romance and humor, along with fluff.

35 Name: Jitsu : 2010-06-30 08:36 ID:F9pS6sF5

As a dual comedy and romance writer, I feel really comfortable with my genre and I love reading it too. Giving the gift of laughter and that warm fuzzing feeling when characters exhibit love to others makes me happy. Not that I'm exclusive to those two genres, I've been known to mix more serious writing and perhaps even some angst into my maturer works.

Agreeing with Jestervalaia, young writers don't seem to know where that fine line is. Knowing how to hold back or even stop and let the readers imagine for themselves, if they wish, the erotic nature in the scene is much better than over-writing every touch, movement and sound produced.

36 Name: TenkaCat : 2010-07-08 11:38 ID:EdQhT5yF

Action, Adevnture, Fantasy, Hurt/Comfort are the ones I mainly read. Never really much of a romance reader myself.

37 Name: Ozuchi Kozuchi : 2010-07-08 14:50 ID:m1/Mc1o6

I tend to lean towards the reading of comedy and romance and the writing of comedy. I guess they sort of go hand in hand.^-^ I'm not a great fan of horror, and I doubt I could write it well.

38 Name: Crystal Volcheck : 2010-07-08 16:25 ID:tDkXhmll

My favorite is angst with a touch of romance, it leaves a bittersweet taste behind. Infact most of the things I write are angst. Although I also like comedy and horror, my morbid sense of humor there.

Oh and slash. Any pairing (almost) even femslash in the mix. Excluding m-preg from that, it's the dark side of slash that should have never been found.

39 Name: RurouniTensai : 2010-07-08 22:47 ID:OxzAuCn4

I am known as the queen of angst! I read it, I write it, I draw it, I live it. Any angsty story and I'm all over it. I also love yaoi. Angsty yaoi and I cry with joy! I'm fine with most romance and comedy, however, it has to have a good storyline. No 'I love you Ken! "slips on banana peel" Oh, no! I'm gonna die!' moments.

40 Name: I am a Purple Crayon : 2010-07-10 13:23 ID:yDF0TDwq

I'm really not that picky, I'm not very picky when it comes to genres. Sometimes I'm in a mood for a really good comedy, sometimes I want angst or a tragedy.
But what I don't care for is character death, but that's just me.

41 Name: Jen : 2010-07-12 16:22 ID:/9+obQgW

I really love reading GOOD romance/humor. If not done well, it's an eyesore. If good, it's amazing.

My works are mostly romance borderlining on action and humor, with more than a touch of angst and a tiny splotch of drama or horror. (Like my descrip? xD)

It's also nice when a story is left open-ended. Though that isn't a genre at all, it's a nice touch and leaves the reader to wonder.

42 Name: Furia : 2010-07-13 11:55 ID:aDA5EEge

I would have to say i like my adventure stories the most. With a tie between fantasy and supernatural in second place. Romance is nice when combined with adventure but I don't like it taking up a major part of the story.

To sum it up give me lots and lots of violence

43 Name: Hollow Ichigo-Ichigo : 2010-07-16 19:15 ID:Xf8Sp3+5

Angst, big time! XD I maybe be biased here, but i absolutly adore a good angst fic! Add some romance or torture in there, makes it better! But i enjoy humor every now and then. Horror is good too, but any tme, day or night...gimme Angst! XD

44 Name: Yemi Hikari : 2010-07-17 17:18 ID:nH39gWsV

I'll read and write anything. Someone mentioned how younger writers tend to take it too far. I think part of it is, they are trying to write something they don't know anything about, even research wise. Younger readers might not be turned off by this, but older readers are.

45 Name: Femalefighthter56 : 2010-07-19 23:41 ID:WUFtINxJ

I LOVE reading something dark or with a lot of drama. Something that makes me laugh time to time is always good as well. I write a lot more serious topic stories then funny ones though I try to lighen it with something that a character does or says from time to time.

46 Name: Tan-Tan Tanuki : 2010-07-20 12:10 ID:tSnayxT4

I've been doing action/adventure stories, a few humor, romance and hurt/comfort stories too, I've done at least one horror story as well. If you want to read them, check them out.

47 Name: EnVyS pEt NeKo2 : 2010-07-20 13:23 ID:SEDUY5n3

My favorite genre is romance lol! Oh and hurt/comfort that's really cute too. I sometimes like angst if it has happy end and other genres like mystery or action. Mostly as long as there's no dying or sad end I'll read it xD

48 Name: EvilFuzzy9 : 2010-08-01 11:11 ID:vjl235Kh

I usually tend to prefer more lighthearted, humorous fare. However, I also enjoy the occasional dark story -- sometimes tragedy or angst, sometimes horror or suspense. I generally avoid purely romantic stories, nowadays, and I am loth to write dramatic, romantic relationships in my stories, because my attempts to be serious or dramatic oft veer off into bathos and hyperbolic exclamations. Even 'A Monster, From the Right Perspective', my sole serious fic (a oneshot, and one of which I am fairly proud), falls into this trap once or twice.

I also enjoy the occasional harem fic, though writing one that is any good, I have found, can be truly challenging. Which I suppose is why I have found myself working on two of them. One is a twisted deconstruction of harem, super, and dark fics, set in Hyrule circa 'Twilight Princess'; the other is a goofy, manic fic following the parallel adventures of a girl and the boy she loves, as the girl attempts to build a harem for her beloved, as her beloved deals with an unwanted, emerging legacy, set in 'Hayate the Combat Butler'. Both are presently stalled, the former due to writer's block, and the latter because I am having a hard time trying to find the name of a character who plays a minor role in the next chapter.

...Jiminy Cricket, how in blue blazes did a post regarding my preferred genres so quickly devolve into shameless self-promotion and thinly-veiled bitching about my own procrastination? Answer: The world may never know....

49 Name: xYuzuki-Tachioux : 2010-08-05 13:38 ID:Hc195Alt

Hello! I came to check out this site! I like it so far. I write on fanfiction for a year now, under xYuzuki-Tachioux, and I love anime!

50 Name: HaniTwili : 2010-08-08 15:52 ID:b1VKIl0E

Romance/humour FTW! :D

51 Name: lurksong : 2010-08-09 01:42 ID:0pBCtj68

My favorite would have to be angst. Lawl. Because I'm a wangsty person.

I've also found that I enjoy horror and tragedy, and angst can, of course, be integrated into that.

Also, romance, humourous or not, is lovely.

52 Name: Sesshi-Chan : 2010-08-11 14:08 ID:Nsxq+OfB

I personally prefer to read angst although it depends on my mood. I've been having a romance kick lately and I can read just about anything as long as it is free of Mary Sues.

53 Name: Twin Kats : 2010-08-11 21:31 ID:tYf+Lav2

Sheesh, a lot you guys seem to like the angst, romance or humor! Or as far as I can see XD I'm more big on preferring parody fics, mysteries, or even a good action/adventure. Mostly because all those angst fics make me all depressed again. And give me too many ideas. Romance has gotten so cliched it's really hard to find a good one, and they tend to get spammed with certain pairings that end up making me want to pull my hair out just because their so common and overdone.

54 Name: Melori : 2010-08-16 10:23 ID:ahhC6cSA

I'm more of a Romance person myself. At least, that's what I'm best at writing. A good Hurt/Comfort fic peaks my interest, too. And Action/Adventure, and Supernatural, and Spirituality fics. Basically, the whole shebang. Except graphic stuff, of course.

55 Name: BriiDream : 2010-08-18 10:16 ID:PEIQvJRt

I will pretty much read anything as long as it has a dash of humor/irony, maybe a bit of angst, and a good plot not solely based on a pairing.
My stories do have a bit of angst. There's a bit of romance as well (not fluffy).

56 Name: SephiriaEvangeline : 2010-09-27 19:58 ID:OyQhDFze

I'll probably read anything as long as its about something that i like, particularly romances about my favorite couples in fandom.
I myself only write romance, action/adventure, sci-fi, supernatural, and fantasy, just because I have an easier time writing it.

57 Name: Mikano Zirake : 2010-10-09 23:06 ID:2PNlOxC4

I prefer adventure, action, and a nice hint of romance to top it off.

58 Name: Coldman9 : 2010-10-12 07:07 ID:QL6/WtsE

Mostly Romance, with some good Humor, Action, Adventure, and SciFi thrown in for good measure.

59 Name: WindAlias : 2010-10-17 10:03 ID:jKXE+dMD

Angst, humor, adventure. Those are what I like to read.

By the way of writing, I don't really know what category my writing would go under.

60 Name: Peter (Miz-KTakase) : 2010-10-23 20:25 ID:Z31zDPu2

A lot of people find me for mostly bizarre and angst.

I did lots of stories, using Drama, Sci-Fi, Humor, Action, Adventure, and Romance. They're my favorite catergories.

61 Name: THEKyuubi27 : 2010-11-04 22:01 ID:lq6honkd

I do adventure, and slight humor, and sci-fi, and mystery stories.....

62 Name: Magickless Sorceress : 2010-11-10 21:26 ID:+jotHLst

I read angst foremost (not sure why...but I love it!), romance, and humor/parody, although parodies only when they are well-written.
I usually write angst; I think I'm better at it that fluff or romance, but I've written some of that too.

63 Name: Gothic-Neko-Writer : 2010-11-13 09:52 ID:/qdV2cIV

Humor, Romance, Drama, Supernatural, etc ANYTHING besides Horror,Crime, Poetry, Western, and Sci-Fi.

64 Name: S3_Cubed : 2010-11-15 19:32 ID:a4aOMEdL

I'm a fan of good storytelling. I don't have a particularly favorite genre, though I tend toward drama, or epics.

Writing on the other hand, well, I've tried to dabble a bit in each genre, though I find that my style doesn't quite lend itself to comedy. I do better with action/drama.

65 Name: Slainteru : 2010-11-18 09:26 ID:p/qF+aGg

おはようございます!
Online, I am Slainteru.
My name's Kathy, I'm American, I ship Buffy, Utena, Harry Potter (the training wheels for my writing, for real)and I've thought of dabbling with Supernatural. Drawing and writing are what get me through, and while I'm not exactly Shakespearean with my words, I enjoy creating my stories - even if they tend to be juvenile.
Frankly, I'm excited to finally have found a bulletin that's actually not nasty flames. =]

66 Name: Rayven : 2010-11-27 00:23 ID:gXMy6TFv

Depending on my level of boredom I will read just about anything, although I do try to find the well-written ones first. Dark is good, and if there is romance I tend to gravitate towards slash. Humor/Parody fics are wonderful, as is crack, when I'm feeling up to it.

67 Name: Kuro Tenshi : 2010-11-28 09:34 ID:8YzWWbP9

my favourite ones are romance, lemon, and adventure and fantasy. they are fun to read and there is nothing like it.

68 Name: KazeYami : 2010-12-01 18:56 ID:sq5xiI4Y

Nya~ I write, mostly, yaoi. But, I like the supernatural, romance, drama, and action genres best.

Um, but, I actually like epics the most. You know, the thousand chapter long stories that take years to finish?! Holy begeezus, those are just wonderful. X3

69 Name: ViVi-chan03 : 2010-12-26 19:57 ID:uOpB+MUW

depending on the anime. romance, action, sci-fi anything interesting

70 Name: ronin-ai : 2011-01-30 09:07 ID:yVUCZ8Ec

i enjoy writing mostly romance with a healthy dose of lemon, action/drama/a little dash of angst...i mix it up, i don't have just ONE element in my stories. so far the only fandom i write for is Final Fantasy 8. that's the only one thus far that's inspired me to write. i'm sure when i finish ffx or ff13, i'll find new inspiration..

I don't much care for yaoi/yuri unless its a well-written story. the characters i mostly play with don't lend themselves to that and i tend to stick with canon, rather than straying too far from the original theme/character's personalities.

71 Name: Anything for Peeta : 2011-02-01 19:31 ID:ySLmQPMi

I tend to write mostly angsty romance stuff, and I know it sounds morbid, but it makes life seem great. Because, let's face it, very few people actually have the problems we read about in teen fiction.

I like to read The Hunger Games trilogy, and right now it's basically all I can talk about. Harry Potter's great, too, and I just discovered a book last week called "Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo."

It's not as stupid as it sounds.

72 Name: Renica : 2011-02-10 14:21 ID:qZa6UKO3

I really like writing introspectives. Getting in character's heads is crazy fun. Other than that, I generally write romance with an emphasis on character's mentality. Mostly drama / angst as I am fail at writing fluff.

73 Name: Dragon's Clan : 2011-03-04 20:59 ID:R0CwaPr3

Humor/Romance is my favorite, other than that it's Hurt/Comfort/Romance, Hurt/Comfort/Humor, Hurt/Comfort/Friendship, Hurt/Comfort/Angst, and Romance/Friendship.

74 Name: Apprentis : 2011-03-06 22:27 ID:4ymhF7R2

I like Romance and Friendship/Crossovers. I right about family and friendship mostly, a little drama and romance. I like useing a veriety of characters and complex storylines.

75 Name: Mizuki Kuro-chan : 2011-03-12 17:15 ID:uUW9PUWi

Hi there!

i'm a slacker, but when i do have bursts of inspiration, i like to write for D. Gray-man, kingdom hearts, a bit of Death Note, and some other stuff that i haven't posted and don't want to go on about lol.

i like to read though, so i spend a fair bit of time looking over people's stories, and looking for ones that interest me.

i also do a bit of sketching in my spare time, and i'm also an apprentice Silversmith, so i work with watches and jewellery a lot too.

i would have to say i'm pretty creative, as my job and my hobbies demand, and i like to have fun.

other than that, there really isn't too much to tell you.

i write on ff under the same name as well.

cheers!

76 Name: Beautiful Tenshi : 2011-03-13 15:32 ID:4g9gge1T

I like adventure and comedy fics, mostly. "Lost" moments or how certain things came to be are always good too. :)

77 Name: AkitaFallow : 2011-03-14 01:55 ID:69cgVDqw

Angst. Angst. ANGST. (I think I'm a sadist. Seriously.)

Though I do love me a good pointless comedy. XD

78 Name: Cady : 2011-03-14 02:52 ID:9bw3i9Aj

Humor, Romance, Hurt/Comfort, Adventure, and Friendship. Those are definitely my tops, and I'll take them in just about any combination. :D
One shot romance/humors are the best thing before you have to prepare for another day at school. Urk. XD

80 Name: Yamato the Crazy : 2011-04-08 15:36 ID:fwT4EQ3o

I mostly read ones with the following genres: angst, hurt/comfort, parody, humor, drama, and (if it's not barfingly overdosed) romance.

81 Name: kimykim : 2011-04-09 06:15 ID:VLEDJO8N

i love reading varieties of genes but i mostly read Hurt/comfort, romance (But not overdose and too fluffy) Drama and angst.

82 Name: RandomatGedz : 2011-04-09 13:48 ID:JGVgRXBT

I prefer to read Humor/Romance (and I'm picky when it comes to canon couples) though I do read the odd Drama/Romance or Suspense, but to be honest I don't do good with angst, I have enough of that in my life and I use fanfic's to get away from it....

83 Name: Awesome : 2011-04-24 17:31 ID:4BxVdVPj

I love Angst or Comedy stories, but I adore cutesy little Romance bits.

84 Name: Zeta Sigma : 2011-04-24 18:47 ID:h9dROMNQ

My favorite is Romance genre. I like seeing what people come up with when they choose a pairing.
I also like Hurt/Comfort.
