Do you have face book? And what do you think of facebook?

I personally do not have facebook and refuse to get an account, I think including me there is only about three people who don't have facebook In my whole year at college, I like privacy and I couldn't care less about people's status' on facebook, I can't unrstand why people do update every five minutes, I find it pointless when there is so many other ways of keeping in contact with people.

My little sister has facebook and has something like five hunred friends, and most of them are people who go to the same school as her and she just added them, Which seems pretty stupid because I think she only talks to fifty of them and her best friend doesn't even have a computer anyway.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on facebook and wether you agree with me or if you do like facebook and why?

I have a Facebook, after leaving school and college it was the easiest and the cheapest way to keep in contact with old friends.. and it's also quite fun for a laugh when you check out what those you never really got on with are doing.

The issue with the privacy is ridiculous, but with the new controls things are getting easier.. but I think people are a little ignorant with Facebook, expecting it to be safer, you should just employ the usual internet rules to it i.e. don't post your address, or your phone number, do that over PM. That said it does allow you to hide your phone number from everyone except 'friends'.

All in all, I like Facebook, I like being able to leave little messages for my friends and say 'oh gosh, it's been years, how have you been?' to others on occasion.

Twitter IS better though...

I agree with HoldenCaulfield. I personally just add those I personally know, and do not update my status every 5 minutes.

It is nice to keep in contact. You can read what others' are doing and such.

I don't have a Facebook, but I do have a Dutch equivalent called Hyves. I don't do much with that account; in fact I only use it to post pictures of my fencing matches and ask other people if they're going to certain tournaments, and very rarely to ask some people how they're doing.

Facebook is unnecessary for me, since I don't know that many foreign people, and for those I do know I have other ways of staying in contact.

Just curious though, are you supposed to put your address and phone number on Facebook? Hyves doesn't require anything of the sort; it doesn't even have the option beyond giving your hometown I believe. But then, I might be wrong. I don't know, and I can't be arsed to check. Putting stuff like that online is asking fro trouble, so I'll never do it.

You can put it on there, but it isn't required. You can set it as private as you wanna. You can make everything so that only you can read everything but your wall.

Facebook like other social networks is for social with other ppl.

I do have FB, I do not change statuses every other minutes, nor play games. I do post pictures and you tube vids a lot.

the first social network I joined was myspace about 6-7 years ago
I made a facebook around 2007 or so because I needed the info for a project about social networks, after about a year I added my Erasmus buddies, and few other old schoolmates, then my university friends/teachers
the rest of the ppl I have in my friend list are ppl that I know online from other places.
my J-classmates, and few other ppl who have same interests with me.
my friend is about 140 people and stays like that, I do not add every other person, and I do not accept friend requests easily either.
FB is another placethat you can do whatever you like and nobody can force you do something you don't want too. I haven't even put my real name there ;p

I have facebook but its all basically people I don't talk to. I hate using facebook, and I made an attempt at twitter- but I don't really have a fucking clue what the point in twitter is. Social networking sites are a bit gay in my opinion anyway. I use LJ and thats about enough for me xD

I don't have facebook. I hate how that's what everyone talks about these days, so I've decided to be a dolly-downer and keep my Myspace account instead. ^_^

I have one and it's nice to keep in contact with friends I wouldn't otherwise see.

10 Name: Lupa Dracolis : 2010-07-31 00:45 ID:ewjB9KMG

I have facebook, as I've just left my school, so it's a great way to keep in touch with people. My extended family is also spread across the UK, so it's a good way to keep in contact with them too.

I have a facebook, as it's my main way of keeping in touch with friends in other countries, of which there are a lot.

I also have some of my online friends on facebook as well so I can see their pictures and stuff, and it gives me more peace of mind knowing that I'll meet them and they are who they say they are... you know.

I think it's a good thing, I know a lot of people who update constantly and it does get annoying, but I know at least 250 of the people I have on my list, either through people I call friends, or because I've met them and got on with them.

It's not a bad thing as long as you don't spend your life on it. I love mine, it's given me the ability to talk to friends without having to send letters, give into getting myspace again, or having to phone them.

I do, and I do go on a lot, but all I do is update my status about once per week and post some pics. Everything on my profile is hidden (besides my profile pic) to anybody who I've not added as a friend. I don't even put my town in there, I just put the biggest city near me. My number, address, all that personal stuff isn't there either. But most people I know have a facebook, so I just use it to chat with friends.

I do have a Facebook, but I use it only to keep in touch with old friends (send out invites to parties and such). I hardly ever update my status - I hate everyone commenting to ask me what is wrong or giving me stupid advice or just putting "that sucks" sad face - and I only add people who I know in person.

I have a facebook. I used to be obsessed with it. I would post a bunch of stuff everyday, but then I got sick of it. Now I only go on to keep in touch with some friends. Half the people on my friends like I either don't even like or don't know

People still use facebook?

Well whatever, when facebook turns out to be skynet in disguise there will be no room in my bunker for you guys :D

18 Name: warper : 2010-08-20 20:42 ID:SLDLBVbu

I have facebook. It's ok. However, I discovered that facebook is NOT skynet. It's youtube and myspace, and myspace is failing. So all we have to worry about is the youtube.

>>17 If we're going based on standards of social networking longevity, Facebook still has about three more years until it's obsolete.

I've considered getting a Facebook account a few times, but the gaping security problems are a major turn-off. Like a horrendous internet menstrual cycle, once a month someone finds a way to abuse the system and get a goldmine of information about people, or if nothing else, to spam the hell out of them. By the way, did you hear that soon you'll be able to tag where your Facebook friends are? 'OMG, I just saw John at the pub, I must tell everyone where his location is!!1!' I suspect that the number of home burglaries will be spiking in the near future.

People are way too willing to post their personal information. And I don't mean general 'I'm getting married, yay!'. I'm talking low-grade blackmail-worthy stuff, y'know, the stuff that employers see on your FB page and then don't hire you. That stuff.

hmm that's an interesting view, though for one more time the blame goes to the machine and not the people.

it is up to every person to fill the empty spaces on their FB page

I use facebook for years now ad not once anything happened to me because of it! Actually anything ever happened to me because of internet and I'm using it since 1998, from microsoft chat, to net meeting, to yahoo and msn messengers, to other public chatrooms, mIRC, plus all the forums I have been a member. My space since 2003 or so, and facebook few years later.

non of them had harmed mylife to the slightest, on the contrary I had met wonderful people that I wouldn't otherwise.

If someone is psychopath they do not need internet or social networks to harm others, they will harm them anyway.
as for companies looking at the FB pages, they actually have psychologists to look at the personalities of the ppl they hire, that for me is better than to judge me about my hair or attire!

I have one but I never use it and I'm under an alias(alius?Alliiaisiasiasias, I dunno I can't spell it.)

I don't go on it that often because well...I get bothered with all of the e-mails and even though I can turn them off...It's still pretty annoying.

I'm a Facebook whore. I update my status when something cool happens or I think of a witty/intruiging phrase. I like to use it to remember those summers long ago that you wish you could go back to. I use it to get gossip on my friends and in general use it to pretend i'm more popular than I am.

Plus, nobody uses MSN or AIM anymore. Facebook Chat, while not great, is always active.

i had a facebook account for a few weeks i think. somehow my old classmate from Russia found me we talked for a bit and i deleted the account. It was more of a "see what the hell everyone is talking about" kind of thing. i played the Naruto game on there but in the end i deleted it (or at least i hope that they got it deleted, i think that they did) i didn't like it.
