What does anyone think of the iPad? For both general use and fanfiction?
I bought one in early June and find it brilliant for reading and the apps are quite good.

I think pages is good for writing on but I have a few problems, there is no USB port so I have to send my documents around with email, luckily pages supports word documents and PDF files, but my biggest problem is that I can't upload my new chapters or stories onto fanfiction.net, this is a problem at the moment since my brother has taken my laptop on a navy training course thing he is doing and my sister can't share, and I am an 'in the closet' fanfiction writer so can't use the desktop computer.

This is also a problem, because there is very little privacy on an iPad of someone else wants to use it, and since I am the only one in my family with an iPad people do like to just pick it up and play with it no matter how much I ask them to at least ask first.

Anyway, what does anyone else think about the apple iPad?

it gave my laptop serious self esteem issues

The iPad = produces more radiation poisoning; uses up more of the Earth's energy sources; imitates paper, books, notepads; looks like it would snap like a Kit Kat if any pressure is forced upon it

Paper = natural; recyclable; no radiation poisoning; can be folded, hidden, made into aeroplanes/origami shapes; much less fekking expensive, and is more accessible to everyone

I use my friend's for reading manga. I don't have one myself, and have no real need to get one. I prefer my laptop. I can type much paster with the keyboard on my laptop also. (like I'm doing right now.)

It looks like it would be beautiful for reading comics, but as of right now, I don't think there's a general reader for cbr/cbz files. I don't care about it so much for fanfiction, because laptops work fine for that.

Also: Aron, are you some sort of concerned mother who found her way here by accident? Because, uh, "technology gives you radiation poisoning!" is a kind of crazy one doesn't normally see on the internets.

IPad...waste of money that could be used for supporting manga authors in light of onemanga's recent shutdown. Also, aside from internet, I don't have much use for one. I tried an ipod for a while (borrowed it off a friend) and it was lying on my desk turned off for most of 2 weeks.

for me, The IPad is an enlarged version of an already next to useless tool.

>>6 I know! Has anyone else noticed the complete and utter rip off Apple have been pulling recently? The iPad is just a big iPhone. TV, movies, books, video games, the internet and the telephone have all just become one big thing in the form of an I-whatever. The only Apple item I own is my two year old iPod nano, which is full and I use it all the time but it still basically the same as an MP4 player. Ugh >.< I don't have anything against anyone who uses a lot of Apple goods, but its seriously becoming a bit of a joke now.

well that may be part of my issue. I don't have nearly enough songs to actually justify and mp3 (or 4). In fact, it's cheaper for me to burn 3 cds wich hold ALL my songs.

Honestly, I have a lot of music, but I'm quite happy with my little Nano, which was a present.

I love my laptop, and I'd never switch to Apple, as much as Microsoft are gits as well.

the only thing I don't like about Miscrosoft is the Xbox. Aside from that, they've been good to me for as far back as I can remember.

I have an adopted laptop and mp3 player, both cruelly sold by their owners in favour of the ipad. So yes, I have personal qualms about it.

On the other hand, it looks like it'd make a damn good frisbee. Even though it'd probably break the moment I touched it.

anyone else noticed that Apple products are like Star Trek props? iPod Touch you say? I call it a datapad. Soon the iPhone will be pinned to everyone's chest, and Scifi conventions will never be the same.

I can't wait!

I can....at close to a hundred bucks for an Ipod and close to fifty to go to conventions...I already can't afford to go to conventions, if the trend goes towards wearing a Starfleet badge that doubles as an IPod or whatever useless version they come out with, it'll be damn expensive and going without one will be a waste of time...If we're going to have awesome starfleet badges...let's have them with communication and teleportation abilities...that's it.

I could mention that I'm dubious about the concept of teleportation to begin with, but that would rather drive us off topic.

Aside from the ridiculous name, I can't see myself needing a tablet computer nor would I want to carry one around in constant fear of it breaking. Plus I have three younger siblings. An iPad is not what I'd consider to be a family friendly device if Beksta's situation is any indication. Also, I have stupid friends. Once, one of them was drunk and then got angry at the game he was playing on his DS, so he got a knife and stabbed the touch screen into oblivion. I would not, given the price of the 'Jesus tablet' want to use that outside of my bedroom. And since that's where my desktop is, there's really no point.
