OneManga is no more! (27)

1 Name: Angel015 : 2010-07-23 04:24 ID:R8QfVRLc

This time next week, OneManga will be no more.

It would seem certain Publishers have become picky and don't want their mangas up on the net. Some of the biggest casulties are Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece. We wish it was just some practical joke, but unfortunately, it is not.

These are terrible times, and we must all show our support and love for the poor, poor site.

RIP OneManga, You will be greatly missed by us all.

xx

actually there was a fuss for a long time. Because such sites as onemanga have commercials and make money out to the site, that triggered American companies who license manga to complain and work against these sites, they have every right to complain if the manga upload there are the english scans they have licensed, or at least I can see why. Though the bad thing is that Yuri/Yaoi fans who are depended on the scanlations [translation by fans for fans] to read their fav manga, they wont be able to do so because those manga will never make it to the western world due to the homosexual aspect. These sites are at fault for one reason, the commercials! If they wanted to do it right and be no profit they would have add a donate button for their expenses and not google adds to make millions. Also American companies before starting complaining about scanlations they should rethink how to make their lousy excuses of completely censored and westernized releases, and why the manga fans turn their backs at those and go for the scanlations.
because guess what!!! I want to read "Utena-sama" and not "lady [fucking] Utena" nor "Lady Oscar" at that, call these women ladies and you are as good as dead -_-
Also another fuss was going on recently about lollikon and shotakon [if I spell them right] because a prude fuck sent letters to companies with products that were being advertised at pages with this manga-gender, because as he said there was child pornography...:face palm: and most of the mature manga had been removed anyway lately. so goodbye online manga

Does anyone else think it's fantastic that our pornbot friend decided to chime in in this particular thread? Because I'm totally thrilled with its timing.

I think they have a sister website called 1000 manga.

Thing is, a lot (if not most) of the manga I found on OneManga I couldn't buy in England. So it wasn't me just being cheap. Plus, when the manga's I liked did come out, I was happy to support them.

Looks like we'll haveta go in droves to mangafox, a site which doesn't bother to respect companies' wishes when they ask sites not to post their manga (unlike onemanga, which took stuff off when it got complained about). They've shot 'emselves in the collective foot. :)

(And yeah, Marth, I lol'd too...)

>>7 actually MangaFox took down the mature stuff too due to the other fuss, and it wont be long until American companies with close it down by force

Are you sure about that? Because Battle Royale is still up there...

Well this sucks... how the -bleep- am I supposed to read manga now? Don't they realise how -bleeping- hard it is to find manga where I live? Over here you either find it way overpriced, written in French (which I can't read at all) or not at all!! Hell the only way I was able to read stuff like Parasyte, Uzumaki and likewise was because of sites like those...

Or, get this, guys. You could search on Google for '[Manga] scanlation'. Everything OM has/had is/was originally from dedicated scanlation groups. So barring something like the actual scanlation groups being taken down, it should still be possible to find updates of whatever manga you're following.

The only thing I want to know is if they'll do like they currently do with individual mangas they've had to take down, and keep the chapter list along with the scanlation group.

Also, >>7: Word. At least OM was respectful of the publishing companies' wishes when they asked to take things down. Oh well.

They just want the money. This might be a bit biased because I'm a Zeitgeist...ist, but I was reading about how Circle Lens (an Asian contact lens company) has become 'controversial' in North America, because its not approved by their health organizations and is imported, and so the Americans don't get a single penny out of it. Yet, they're approved in South East Asia by medical standards groups. Funny that. The same thing is happening to scanlations.

It's not much different to how pissed off some artists get when their music is downloaded illegally. It's like in South Park they were taking the piss, but their message was very true. If they were really in their music business or whatever for the enjoyment, they'd just be psyched that people liked them enough to download their music - they wouldn't go on strike or start big legal battles over it if they didn't want the money. Besides, people do still buy merch and the books - I have several one piece, naruto, fake and gravitation books, as well as gantz, category freaks and saiyuki, not to mention the insane amount of merchanise i buy. Most otaku are the same, but the publishing companies get pissed off when they find out that there's money to be made and they're not getting it. >__> Might be a bit unpopular, but that's just my take on it.

Tbf, music artists ARE trying to make a living outta their trade. You wouldn't spend a lot of time and effort doing a job and not expect to get paid, so I'm not sure why you advocate the double standard for musicians. Music IS overpriced, though, no denying that.

14 Name: Beau : 2010-07-24 13:50 ID:2dY0e2mr

Oh yeah I totally understand that. Like, I want to be a graphic novelist (sad I know), and I'd get a bit annoyed if people were constantly downloading my stuff for free. But the point I was trying to make is that artists tend to blow things way out of proportion just because they didn't get paid, which sort of raises the question about why they're even in the music business - something most of them claim is their passion, if they make a bigger deal about the money than they do about their music/whatever art form they persue. And think about it- where do most popular musicians live? In big old houses. They're filthy stinking rich as it is but they'll still get mega pissed if someone doesn't give them more money.

I don't think OneManga is needed. Mediafire and The Pirate Bay will do just fine.

I can understand them being mad about us reading their manga for free. Afterall, we are reading their work, and they get nothing out of it. Still, I don't see too many manga shops around where I live so I wouldn't really have another option.

>>16, yeah, and like I said before, where I live, half of those manga's weren't being sold at all. So it was internet or nothing.

The sites that host anime will still stay up though, right?

Ah, dammit D:
The literal ONLY place to get manga where I live is Waterstones, where it's all like £13.00 per volume and everything's Fullmetal Alchemist (which I've gone off of) and Naruto (which I HATE.)

Well, there's always Mangafox, which will probably end up dead like OneManga, and my library, which just has the same volumes of Bleach, Fushigi Yuugi and Inu-Yasha I've taken out and read so many times...

20 Name: Angel015 : 2010-07-27 15:26 ID:R8QfVRLc

>>19 At least you have a library....Ours is shut down for a refit....Not opening till november and they only had a few volumes of manga...mainly Hellsing (Not that I was complaining about that). And Waterstones is ridiculous...They used to have a decent Manga section....which has been gradually shrinking ¬¬

OM Was the only place for me to read Manga...and I think it's going to become harder and harder to read anything now OM is shutting down....Other sites are going to be found....

... And new ones will spring up. When it comes to the internet, where there's demand, there's supply. This isn't the apocalypse.

Does anyone know just how old onemanga is and it's birthday? I want to post a complete tribute to them including birthday and year.

23 Name: Beau : 2010-08-02 07:36 ID:hhsPuKOQ

I suppose I'm quite lucky where I live, then. I have a big old comic book store where I live with like a huge wall and a few racks of manga, and then the other side of the store is like western comics, Shounen Jump and magazines like that. The guy sells them for the average £7 and if I can (and if he has the ones I want) I'll go and get the volumes as they come out. Usually. I'd buy more if I had the money and if I had the bloody storage space in my room XD

Okay, it's offically gone...:'(

Time to go a hunting for other reading sites...if anyone has any suggestions that aren't MangaFox, please share, it'll be interesting to see what other sites are out there ^^

I am sad about that. I need my Skip Beat fix but even Mangafox isn't running it anymore! AGH!

I don't care for skip beat but I think citymanga has it.
