Trojan Horse, Generic 8.EJI (no, I'm not threatening you!) (11)

AVG has said it found a Trojan Horse on the computer. It didn't wanna remove/heal. It was located in the temporary files. I deleted it. I couldn't. I restarted the computer. It was gone. I did another AVG virus scan to make sure. It found another Trojan Horse (Generic 8.EJI) in the same folder. I couldn't heal/remove it. I couldn't delete it. I had AVG remove the threat as a power user. One of the two was removed. I did a virus scan of just the C-drive. It didn't find anything. I did another entire scan, it found the very same threats again. I had AVG remove them by force. It said the computer could crahs by it. It did. It crashed. I couldn't do anything anymore. Screen froze. I turned computer off by button. I turned it on again. It asked for safe mode. I didn't. Of experience, I got that that just ruins everything (at least with the old desktop.) I went to the temporary files folder. It is empty. So I assume that the threats must be removed. I don't dare do another virus scan anymore, though. tears Every day at 12:00 it does one automatically, so I'm scared to shit already that it'll find something again. The computer's working fine. I don't get it. I'm scared. :'( I don't wanna loose anything. I cannot afford to loose the laptop in the middle of my exams.

Anyone who could save my @$$?

  1. do not download shit
  2. burn all your important files on DVD/DVDs, by burning files in such disks you prevent that a virus can never be burned into them.
  3. the trojan can be a crack of a program that you have download if that's the case then there is no reason to worry.
  4. by doing Scan doesn't mean that your computer will crash
  5. if you choose to delete the virus then that's when problems start
  6. when you have all your files save in DVDs run the antivirus again if it still finds the trojan then do a format, or keep running your comp with trojan in it.
  7. I'm make a stupid question: Do you have more than one anti viruses on your computer? if yes then uninstall them and keep ONLY ONE
  8. Do not freak out.
  9. Do not visit every other random link that is send to you on emails/facebook/msn/whatever
  10. be sure that the files you download have an extension that you know like: .mp3 .jpeg .doc etc
  11. NEVER download files with .exe extensions if you DO NOT know the source. exe files are programs but viruses are programs too.
  12. when you download a .zip/.rar file SCAN IT before open it for the first time.
  13. Scan EVERY file that you do not recognize its extension.
  14. if the problem doesn't go away do a format and then be careful!
  15. Do not use internet explorer as your internet browser, without even browsing any site IE is an open door for viruses that they run just through the web.

I forgot to say

When ever you put a USB stick on your computer SCAN IT EVERY TIME before you open it.

Well, I don't even have a virus scanner. If you keep to what Sera Eris says you shouldn't have much of a problem. That said, a Trojan isn't really a problem since it doesn't propagate like a virus does. As long as you keep any sensitive information off your pc, you know, like bank numbers and the like, you're pretty much fine. And if you think that someone is hijacking your pc, unplug the network cable when you're not using it. But really, the odds of that happening are pretty slim, and I doubt that one Trojan, especially one labeled as Generic, could do that.

I'm very careful with what I download every time. And I have deleted the Norton, only keeping my AVG, but it still found a Trojan horse PSW Generic 8.EJI in that Temp folder. So that's surely not the reason.

So, basically, I could just continue working with the computer without really worrying?

A generic trojan can be an application that gives random combination of numbers for programs' cracks for example
if you download the Photoshop, since it is a licensed program the piratically version comes along with its crack that little file is a generic trojan which is not harmful for the comp.
so if you have download any program lately check if its crack is the file name of the trojan your anti-v found.
what you surely have to do is to copy your work into DVDs

as for Norton since it is the biggest bullshit ever created it is possible that it hasn't been uninstalled completely!

do you play games on Facebook??
it seems to be a spyware and nothing more so it is probably from such pages as facebook-GAME pages or cursor/smilies pages and such!

Yeah, I do play games on Facebook. Farmville, and such. I found it quite odd that I got a threat in the first place, since I'm always so careful with everything and don't enter nasty sites or such. Thank you for your help!

it is not about nasty sites!
it is about online games those are downloading spyware to your computer.
that link I gave you it is quite old but if you scroll down there are newer topics on that trojan in that forum.

Buy the latest virus protection package and install right away. It should fix up some or all of your PC problems, and do other helpful defence maintenance for you.
