Okay, kiddies. Let's play the "I Don't Know In Which Area Of The Boards To Dump My Thread" game!

It's really quite simple. Here's a run-down of the sections of the board and what should go in them—based solely on their name! I know, I know, it's terribly difficult. But with this handy-dandy guide, you'll soon be able to decide whether your thread on Favorite Kool-Aid Flavour goes in the Fan-works Know-how board, or the Self-Intros board.

(Hint: it's neither of the above.)

So let's get cracking with...

Fan-works and Fan-culture!

This is where anything to do with fan works or culture in general goes.

Gee whiz, slow down there! What does it all mean?!

Well, for starters, any thread with the word 'write', 'story', 'character' or 'FANFICTION' should probably go in this board. That thread on Cloud/Sephiroth? In here, baby. =D Discussions on favorites/alerts and reviews? Roll right up! A thread on hairstyles? NO. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.

Moving on...

Fan-works Know-how!

Where did the 'and' go in this title? Why is freaking everything needlessly hyphenated? Oh well. The key here is the 'Know-how' part of the title. Now, get this: this board is for if you want to KNOW HOW to do something to do with writing, or if you KNOW HOW to do something and want to share tips. IKNORITE?

Self-Intros!

Seriously, why is fucking EVERYTHING hyphenated?! And do I really need to explain this one I mean it's not like somebody's gonna start a thread on Final Fantasy stories, ri—

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Okay, okay. The Self Intros thread—I hope you're taking notes, girls and boys—is for when you want to introduce yourself. YourSELF, mind. Not your story, or your interests. Save that for later. Keep it in your pants, cowboy.

Pleasant Chat!

So apparently there's people who don't know what the words 'pleasant' and 'chat' mean, at least not in conjunction with each other, and feel compelled to start threads on favorites and reviews or whatever.

Pleasant Chat is, in fact... no seriously, how am I going to explain it so you understand it if you don't already? Just... stop posting threads about fanfiction in that board, people. Srsly.

Offline Meetings!

okay so right
when you want to meet someone—BUT OFFLINE!
you talk about it in this board

totally not a stupid idea to share your location on a board where anyone could be lurking

Lobby!

I am actually confused as to why this board even exists. It's not like it's any less random or than the 'Pleasant Chat' board. No, seriously, what is this doing here. Why does it even exist.

And there you have it, folks! A simple run down of this Bulletin Board that any idiot could comprehend. Now stop posting things in the wrong board area or I will find you through the Offline Meetings board and I will shank you.

In all seriousness though, what's so hard about starting threads in the proper area? Jesus Christ, people.

XD You made me laugh. It's true that some people have managed to get posts in the wrong places but, really dude, I LIKE hyphonated words! Lay off them! (Btw, there isn't any need for an 'And' in 'Fan-works Know-how').

that probably goes for me and Majin who start a random discussion in the "girls or boys" thread,
but it just happened, and the boys or girls thread exists in all boards, so it was easy to go off topic ;p

there is no harm in randomness, the forum is random anyway. as long as it is not trolling or spamming randomness never hurt anyone...

that was like the whole point behind my first post

but there is no need for rules in this one

Dux, I take the Lobby to be a sort of poor man's (/ schoolchild's) /b/. By which I mean that everything there (including my posts, of course) is utterly 5h1t and boring to read.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Chat is a board that exists for me to subvert the intended purpose by being as impolite as possible to everyone on it. I found it quite a good joke, but nobody noticed the intended irony, so now I'm just short with people on every board. Hehe.

Oh and Dux, as always, I love you.

Triple-dot, you broke rules 1 and 2. Fucker.

Don't get in a hissy fit over people talking about things. Conversation naturally flows from one thing to another. Next time you're talking to a friend, take a note on what subjects you talk about and how you get from one to another. Really interesting sometimes.

10 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 08:00 ID:N6ngp3eD

One day, Scourge, you'll understand the difference between 'hissy fit' and 'jokey rant designed to amuse people with a sense of humour'. You'll also understand the difference between a thread 'going off topic' and 'sprouting up on the wrong board in the first place' Until then, shoo.

As for breaking rules 1 and 2? Only the most pathetic souls online care about them. Hang your head in shame.

On the topic of website related irritation, does anyone else despise 'internet lingo'? I'm referring to 'oh noes' and 'lulz' and the like. It makes my skin crawl and puts me off websites such as this. Considering the majority of members have an interest in writing/reading, could you please make the effort to use proper English?

15 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 12:55 ID:N6ngp3eD

It's a website. Deal with it.

16 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-04-12 13:02 ID:eFi0ppO7

Note some of us use it sarcastically. Rarely, but it has occured.

17 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-12 13:31 ID:gVljFpcY

>>16 Yes, I realise that. I also, however, have noticed it used on several other occasions without the intent of sarcasm.

18 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 14:06 ID:N6ngp3eD

AND IT IS A WEBSITE.

Just as you do not write 'er' or 'um' in an essay, but say them regularly in conversation, you do not need to write "I laughed out loud at that comment of yours, seventh person to post" online when you can write "@7- LOL". It wastes time, space and energy. If people can't understand that, I don't know why they use the internet. You write to suit your medium and audience. Medium = internet (or, indeed, internets). Audience = people who use the internet. It is not difficult.

19 Name: Anonymous : 2010-04-12 14:43 ID:gVljFpcY

It is the 'audience' part that I do not understand. The audience is people. People write books and do not find the need to abbreviate things. Why do so online? It's just as handy to abbreviate whilst writing a book as it is to typing online on a website such as this. The authors, however, do not do so. They use the English language correctly. Why should people online be too lazy to use spelling and grammar?

20 Name: Marth : 2010-04-12 14:50 ID:bZr2v8fW

And if this was some kind of srs bsns website, we'd expect people to type things out. But this isn't an informative website. It's not even FFN. As long as people bother to type things out when it matters, I don't care if they abbreviate when we're just chatting.

22 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 14:56 ID:N6ngp3eD

@19- Because a conversation on a forum is a two-way process, and you are neither trying to immerse your audience in a fictional universe, nor deliver a lecture. Forums are primarily for discussion, not essays, and that means slang and spontaneity should be acceptable. Spelling and grammar, however, are different matters entirely.

23 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 14:58 ID:N6ngp3eD

Also, most audiences are comprised of people, funnily enough.

24 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 15:01 ID:N6ngp3eD

Also, 'your audience is people'? The 'audience' at a funeral service 'is people'. The audience at a football match 'is people'. Context. Matters.

25 Name: Vic Taylor : 2010-04-12 15:14 ID:9jYGqaks

Most of the other forums I'm on don't allow text speak simply because the non-English speaking members of the community don't understand it.

28 Name: Vic Taylor : 2010-04-12 16:05 ID:9jYGqaks

@'...' - The same applies to both of them for people who don't speak English though. For instance, a non-English speaker wouldn't have been able to read your last message.

29 Name: ... : 2010-04-12 16:18 ID:N6ngp3eD

@28- That's because it was text speak. Which was the point.

I talk to people on other fanfic forums who don't speak English as a first language, and they cope with slang. Seraeris and Tristana manage it here. English is my father's third language, and he (wait for it) uses slang. If you can speak absolutely no English whatsoever, you won't be spending your time here in the first place, unless you are VERY dedicated to discovering strangers' tastes in Kool-Aid.

were I can't read text speech is with greeklish...
yap my own language when is written in txt speech I just cant understand a thing, because using latin alphabet it also adds to the effect. also most greeks try to follow right spelling with the greekish which is needless and confuses the reader even more.

Hey, you may not have realised, but sarcasm doesn't translate well through text. Not to mention I'm not the greatest on picking up sarcasm, especially when it's in text.

Meh. I don't care anyway. If you think such a topic as this needs to come up, you're as bad as other people.

35 Name: ... : 2010-04-14 00:06 ID:S0MGwYM1

If anyone can work out what the end of that post actually means, inform.

As a rule of thumb, if someone says 'keep it in your pants, cowboy' in relation to people posting irrelevant information, they are probably not taking themselves too seriously...

>>34 Hey dude so I wait what?

Well, Ellipsy, I am stumped. What could the mysterious 'topic' in the last sentence possible be? Sarcasm? The rules of the internet? /b/? Putting threads in the right place?

Heck if I know, but it doesn't make the post any less funny. =D

Also, a post lecturing on sarcasm in response to a post that was almost entirely CAPSLOCKED and could hardly be more sarcastic without hurting itself. Laaaaaaaaawl.

hey bro

capslock means sarcasm in many circles

lower case mainly signifies condescension though

fyi

also stop making your first post look like lol you just don't get it it was saaaaaaarcasm, it's not working

It's a dream where I fire up my browser, type 'fanbbs.net' into the bar, and when I come here, magically, everything is in its proper place. Tidy and neat. The mystic fairies of newbtardery have taken pity on the misguided misplacing morons, and have spirited away all the misplaced threads so I DON'T NEED TO KEEP BUMPING THIS THREAD UNTIL PEOPLE GET THE MESSAGE.
