Anybody have any fears or phobias that are maybe really weird or either embarrasing and not easy to tell others?
I have about three off the top of my head:
3. Ravens - It seems that a lot of horror books and movies i saw when i was younger mentioned ravens. And so whenever i see a raven or hear one i get goosebumps and if i'm outside will run away. :| It's kind of embarrasing...
2. The Ocean - I don't mind swimming in the pool but i refuse to swim in the sea. I hate places i can't see the bottom and i'm always scared something will come out and get me from under the sand. :S
AND 1. Touching People - Yeah, it's a weird phobia that people know about. I'm fine with touching family members but when it comes to stranges or close friends, i always feel tense when in near proximity to them and if my friends try to hug me i'll quickly flinch and dart away.
Weirdly enough, i'm fine with just 'normal friends' touching me but when it comes to friends who are 'closer' than that then i go frantic. I think my friends are a bit upset that im fine with classmates hugging me but not them.
:S What can i say? I don't know how my weird phobia works... But it also means i'm not good with guys touching me. When i fell on some ice and a boy i know tried to help me up i flinched and pulled away frrm him resulting in me falling again...
Sorry for the long rant, i think i got to into it and was trying to figure that last one out. :| So... yeah... anybody wanna reply?
I'm scared of Anonymous! Jokes, no I hate the dark
I used to think there were sharks at the bottom of swimming pools.
Knives of any form, shape and size. I screamed at a plastic knife once. Not cool.
I've got a bit of a fear of eating in public places. I've got a nerve trapped in my jaw, so whenever I eat, my jaw presses on it and forces my left eyelid to bob up and down. Naturally, people stare and it makes me paranoid. :(
I have a fear of cutting my wrists or neck by accident. Whenever I think of it I just get gripped by a really weird sense of fear. It might be something to do with seeing too much murder or suicide films but just the thought...shivers
I'm terrified of needles. This stems from the time where I had to be injected with adrenaline cos of my nut allergy, and had no pain relief for the great big bloody needle sticking out of my arm.
Still, it's pretty embarrasing when you go to get your jabs and you won't let the woman with the needle near you!
>>3 Agreed. I always hate going near those bars under the water that are something to do with creating the waves, i think sharks will burst out which is why i always make sure somebody else is closer to them than me so if a shark does burst out i'll have a chance... :|
I'm shit scared of having the tv on in the dark, especially if the tv has no signal coming through and it goes all grey and fuzzy! I'm shit scared that a little girl would crawl out on my damn 19" tv! (Thanks to the Ring!)
I have a phobia of blood tests. Not blood. Not needles. Blood tests. Just something about the inside of my elbow makes me freak out. That, and wrists. shudder There's the most awful billboard up near where I live now - it shows a man taking his pulse on the wrist, and I freak out everytime I go past it.
Hmmm phobia of suffocation.....ugh! The thought of it is horrible
I get scared of cats sometimes, because I'm worried if you try and pet it, it'll turn on you and scratch you
I've got machine phobia!!! I hate anything to do with some sort of machines. I'm terrified of that duplicate machine in Santa Clause 2. OMG it is so scary. Or any machines. Like- let me think- that one in Spiderman that turns that person into Goblin, or even a little drilling thing in wood technology that drills holes in wood very fast. I'm terrified of stuff like that. Has anyone read Dark Visions by LJSmith- that machine thing at the end that is completely insulated. Where she couldn't see, hear, feel, smell or taste anything. OMG that's freaky. The thought of Xrays freek me out coz its a machine thing. That one in Dr Who that made that person youger is very scary.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not scared of the terminator or anything- its just machines mostly that people stand in, that is small and clustraphobic or has something where people have to lie down and are fastened in, or where there is loads of flashing lights and noise. I know that most of what I'm scared of don't exist, but anything that reminds me of them freak me out so much.
Not really afraid to voice my fears, but
I fear that the government will begin a totalitarian style rule and take over all of our lives
I fear machines, or AI rising up and destroying our civilisation
And spiders freak me out too
Heights are pretty bad as well now i come to mention it.
>>15 Are you scared of conspiracy then? Coz my friend has the same fear that the government are plotting some sort of plan to rise up and take over....
I'm scared of spiders too!
Yeah im pretty freaked by anything like that xD And im constantly paranoid thinking that everytime the goverment do somthing its all slowly leading us deeper into thier domination, until were all mindless drones.
FIGHT THE POWER! (H)
Right on! Wait....by fighting the power, will that mean -gulp- over-throwing the government?...omg.....well i don't wanna be a mindless drone....I'm in...
I have a fear of velvet. No joke, its vile and makes my skin crawl. Just... ew!
I'm also a germaphobe which results in me not being able to touch anything without covering my hands with my sleeves. I went through a stage where if I touched door handles etc, I'd pick up HIV/AIDS. But back then I was rather naive about it, now I'm not frightened by it. Also, if someboody is ill I won't go near them because I have a big fear of becoming ill myself. If its like a cold, sore throat then fine but not things like flu or bugs.
I'm scared of being in crowds too.
My brothers Turantula (did i spell that right?) gives me little goosebumps, but I've HELD it before...Yet...Little spiders scare the HELL outta me xD
Is it weird to have a slight fear and at the same time have a wondering of death?
Also My own thoughts scare me a little...Like I'll look at something, then think of something scary happening...Like breaking my arm and being in pain. My mind creates images like that, hence why I'm so scared of such ltitle things like pins. I know not to press on the sharp point but still -shudder-.
I'm also a little bit scared of the dark. Or turning around and somebody being there who wasn't there. ALSO having the feeling of somebody being behind me...-glance over shoulder-...~
haha...I feel weird now :)
Im scared of Spiders, Heights make me nauseous, the usual stuff.
I'm terrified of Scalpel blades. I had to have a minor operation once and I made them knock me out, even though it was only going to take 10 minutes. I asked them to knock me out becuase they were using scalpels and I didnt want to be aware of it. It makes my skin crawl.
Im scared of pain - but I'm slightly strange because I'm addicted to getting tattoo's and piercings, I'll pierce almost anywhere and tattoo's are my life blood, I adore them.
And also. Craneflies.
THOSE THINGS CAN SENSE FEAR!!!!
I swear, they bloody chase me and everything, I hate them ~shudders~
@21, i've never really heard of a Cranefly. But I swear that spiders stalk me...And birds. And rain. RAIN STALKS ME.
Whenever I usually go out it's GUARANTEED that it'll rain. seriously...
-glance over shoulder- eeeeeep ;0;
@22
Crane Flies are known in britain as Daddy Long Legs...if that helps...
The insects that fly, look like spiders AND SENSE FEAR!!!!
I'm afraid of dogs. If it was just big dogs, then sure, it makes sense. But I also don't like little dogs! Not just ugly, yappy ones, but also the quiet, cute ones. I have no idea why, I'm just scared of them!
I'm afraid of polystyrene. (I THINK I spelled it right) I can't touch it or listen to the noise as you pull it out of a box - It just totally creeps me out and my skin crawls whenever I see any.
Strange? Yes. And totally irrational. I have NO idea why I'm scared of it. Or why I have a particular hatred of it for that matter.
My friend has a phobia of bare feet though, so I think I got off easy!
>>23 You may be right about crane flies sensing fear - they're frigging attracted to me!! lol; i HATE them so frigging much!! i remember i accidentally stepped on one in the bathroom XO UGH. They're so stupid, not knowing where they're going.
Let's see, house flies (or any other kind of fly really) disgust me a lot. I'm not exactly scared of them, but just repulsed, though the buzzing creeps me out.
And generally, medium to large sized insects. Tiny ones don't bother me at all, or too much. Midget flies are just damn annoying zipping around you like idiots (u can tell i seriously hate them).
My weirdest one - which is so irrational I forget it, is Ferris Wheels.
Not being on them, looking at them
I just panic, I hate them. So So So much, I saw one in Manchester and it took all the self control not to bolt in the opposite direction, especially when I walked past the next building and it was being reflected...~shudder~
Hmm, I'm scared of the movie "The Grudge" I know it's stupid but after watching it I was EXTREMELY paranoid for two years, the computer in my house has a closet RIGHT behind it and even as I type this I have to make sure she's not crawling out of it=/
I'm scared of my father-in-law. -blushing, then running- I did not just admit this.
Im scared of being buried alive, crowded places and butterflies.
Apparently, Daddy long Legs (or Craneflies) are the most poisonous type of spider (what?) there is...Just their fangs are sharp enough to pierce through your skin (thank God.)
oops typo :3 I meant to say aren't XD
You can stop having mild heart attacks now.
Urban legend. Also, they're flies (insects), not spiders (arachnids). The name sort of gives it away.
The actual most venomous spider in the world is the Brazilian wandering spider, whose venom can easiy kill a human being, and, bizarrely, causes extended and painful erections for its victims. What a way to go.
Yeah - dying with a throbbing hard on has got to be the preferred way for a man to go...
What does it do to women then???
Nothing. The spiders only do it because they're yaoi fans.
I find it interesting, actually, that although I have a real phobia of spiders, daddy long legs don't bother me in the slightest, and I can tell which is which a mile off (if I am not terrified, it is not a spider).
The best way to describe a phobia of spiders to someone who doesn't have one (a phobia, not a spider) is thus: imagine you turn around, and suddenly, there, nailed to the wall, is a rotting hand.
It is most unpleasant.
Ah yeah, I most likely meant in England, we don't get the poisonous stuff (THANK THE LORD.)
Spiders being Yaoi fans...d'ya think that the yaoi fangirls/boys become then when they die?
>>33 The most poisonous is the Brazilian wandering spider but the most deadly is the 6 eyed sand spider but thats just because there have only ever been 2 reported bites and 1 of them caused death.
I don't like spiders, the little ones are okay but the ones where i can tell they're looking at me those are the ones that make me shit bricks
I don't like anything with more than four legs as a general rule.
But spiders...I can't even hoover them up - I'm too scared that it'll miss the nozzle and hit me xD
Don't like the film, The Never Ending Story....it scared me as a child and now 10 years on, I'm still terrified.
Oh, I thought the banana spider was the most dangerous. I once saw a video of one eatign a whole snake on YouTube. Yuck. I'm terrified of spiders.
The Brazilian wanderer is also known as the banana spider, due to its unfortunate habit of hitching a lift in crates of the things to other countries. Nothing to do with the priapism, thankfully.
You mean it DOESN'T turn it yellow and spotty?!
... My life has lost all meaning.
I have a fear of toilet snakes....sounds really silly but ever since i heard about some woman going to the loo then as she went to flush saw some giant ass snake in the bottom of her bowl i have been freakin' out!! I don't know of it ever happening in England but still....argh!!
>>44 I heard that too once, and it freaked me out for ages! I think it was in Australia though... somehow I don't think we would get a random grass snake or adder pop out of our toilets on the other side of the world. ^_^ The snakes don't even get that big over here anyways. Or at least, that is what I've been telling myself ever since I heard about the toilet snake.
I also have a fear of spiders that come out of plugs, espcially bath plugs! I mean, how horrible (and improbable) would that be if you were having a shower and then this big ass spider comes crawling out the drain by your feet?
Big ass spider? Giant ass snake? In the context of toilet bowls? Hyphenate, people. I get horrible mental images otherwise.
>>45, the water washes spiders back down again. Then again...a couple of times I've had to go downstairs and be like
"THERE'S A FREAKIN SPIDER IN THE BATH TUB D:" and one of my brothers has had to get it, or my mum :3.
My friend is TERRIFIED of spiders, she freaks out whenever she sees them. XD I love any animal...Spiders included but they give me goosebumps...Like bees, wasps and hornets...and even 'Bluebottles' D:
I LOVE FLUTTERBYS, and snails :3...
I dont have a fear of daddy long legs.....but when I was running one flew into my mouth :@.......needless to say I was nearly sick and now Im not their biggest fan..cringes.
I think people are afraid to die because noone really knows what happens when we die...not for sure...which makes it scary. .....anyone else have any theories of why people are afraid of death.
Oh and sharks scare the hell out of me.... I was one of those who thought there were sharks in the bottom of the pool. Haha
>>49 yeah, I think everyone fears death purely because of that, even if we've convinced ourselves that we know what happens.
>>49 my brother told me that Heaven and Hell were just dream worlds...Like..wherever we wanna be at death...
...Hopefully my mind doesn't send me to my 'Graveyard' (I called it that because it technically is a graveyard but EVERYTHING there lives...Even the freakin' gate.) because that place in the little bit of my mind is just plain scary. (Anybody else have a place like that? Or is it just me?)
>>49 I think, like you, the fear of death is really fear of the unknown. We don't know whether or not we're going to get another shot at life, or whether this is the last time, so people rationalise their fear by saying that they fear death itself rather than what happens afterwards.
People, when they think about death, tend to think of loss rather than anything else - Loss of your life, loss of loved ones... Purely because we cannot fathom what comes next. Maybe it's something good! But we won't know till be get there.
I, for one, am going to keep my chin up. You only live once( to my knowledge), so I want to live to the fullest. Do everything I want to do, and more. ^_^ (Wah, that was so depressing!)
>>51 Your 'graveyard' sounds extremely scary. I've never been one for spooky things - I just don't have the nerves for it. For example, I jump 3ft out of my bed whenever my alarm clock goes off. I've become slightly scared of it now, so my body now automatically wakes up before I set the alarm to go, purely so I can stop it before it wakes me up XD
>>52 believe me. Even the VINES kill you (no HP intended.) the trees and ground absorb energy, but release it slowly.
Y'know in most cases the more life you see the better your chance of getting out is? Well it's sort of the opposite. If you want to go in deeper into the forest you're better off following the DEAD things. That includes the trees.
At the center of the graveyard there's a really big oak tree called 'Oaky' (what an unoriginal name! XD) and well he pretty much guards everything there... :| if you die there, then you're lucky. If you're still living, you'll probably die slowly anyway... XD MAN I'M CREEPY.
>>53 'Oaky'? Now that IS a little bit of an unorginal name, but hey, who am I to judge?
And yeah, that is creepy. I would never EVER want to go there, dead or otherwise. You could have just as easily have thought up a flowery meadow with talking rabbits and rainbows, but noooo. You HAD to go down the spooky route :P It's rather imaginative though, the thing as a whole, despite the predictable oak tree name.
-giggle- Yeah I guess so. Then again, if you're OK enough and you don't struggle with the wines they'll take you to an underground lake...It's pretty there :3
The water glows a soft blue, it's night-time but it's pretty ^__^. If you wanna go there instead. Just...Don't drink the water. :| I'm not sure what'll happen to you.
>>55 Somehow, I just got a sudden image of the underground lake in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince pop into my head when you said that last bit. X3
That reminds me, I got the film for christmas and have yet to watch it. Take a guess at what is next on my agenda for tonight after studying! :)
Woodlice freak me out so badly I actually had to go out of my science class when we were studying them and had a panic attack on the coridoor.
>>57 Yuck, woodlice are one of the creepiest creepy crawlies I can think of. We had to do a similar think in science, except for we had to suck them up through this straw into this little pot thing, and I wouldn't go near it. Purely because I was scared of it getting into my mouth. 0_0 How nasty would that be. But, if my memory serves me correctly, the little pot things were called 'pooters'. That made up for the woodlice :D
>>58 Top answer! Ding ding ding! Harry potter and a bar of chocolate. My evening sorted. ^_^
hahahaha xD
WOOOOO I WIN! -hugs you- Well I'm heading off to bed. Night guys and gals :)
hahahaha xD

lol double post :3.
>>63 I did, there's more snow! Hopefully a fear isn't my brain then. O_o
>>64 Really? Oh, you are so lucky! I'm hoping for some snow tonight, they said there is going to be around 7-8 centimeters of it :D
My cat is scared of snow XD Or more that she dislikes the general wetness of it. One or the other ^_^
>>64 Really? Oh, you are so lucky! I'm hoping for some snow tonight, they said there is going to be around 7-8 centimeters of it :D

hahaha QUADRIPLE POSTS!!!!XD
Awwwww poor kitty, get her some slippers :D
Noooo! Bloody mouse button got stuck XD
She would rip my face off if I tried to put them on her though - she's a grumpy little bugger, and won't hesitate to decapitate my limbs at a moments notice. I think it's just because we tell her she's getting fat XD
>>1 Swimming in the ocean also kinda freaks me out. I can swim in lakes, but I refuse to go to the sea. The whole idea of beaches aren't very pleasant either.
And that's it really.
OMG my fear...Spiders, the dark and Crowds...unless i have a best friend there to hold my hand :D
>>70 my Enter button gets stuck a lot so...I feel your pain XD.
LOL! Don't tell her she's getting fat then XD.
We called our Geography whiteboard 'Phat' :3 'cause we can :D
I got a phobia of people dressed up, like what you see at Disney Land o-o It comes from a fear from when I was about 5 and was watching a Winnie the Pooh show, Piglet fell off the stage and squashed me. I've been petrified of them ever since.
I have three kinda weird phobias:
I have no idea where these came from but seriously, they freak me out. I also have a friend in school who's scared of Orange Squash.
>>73 But, but, but... She is!
Now that I think about it, I have a phobia of seaweed.
Now, whenever I go to a beach that happens to have seaweed there, I hate going in the sea because the seaweed can just attack you without warning and wrap around your foot or leg, like fingers. And it's all cold and wet, and ugh... Just HORRIBLE.
It's like a seaweed sneak-attack!
>>75 I understand what you mean about the wax models, although it's more mannequins in general for me. I mean, not all of them, but a select few. Once, I was walking past this shop and it had some mannequins in the window and it was dark. The mannequins had all the features of their faces sculpted in detail - mouth, nose, ears... except the eyes. It had no eyes. That freaked me out even more than seaweed does.
Ugh well not sure if they are weird but -
Spiders shivers
Lighters (Something happened in my past and now am terrified of lighters close to me
LOUD thunder and lightening
might be others, but at the moment can't think...
x Casondrah Kiku x
I heard Piglet....was a boy.. Apparently he-er she, is a girl D:
I r having almost fangazms over Red from Four Swords...HE'S JUST SO CUTE.
I r having phobias of seaweed too D: it...just scares me.... (I'm drawing wings atm, I had to copy it from my +Anima manga book with cooro's wings :3..)
I have a fear of eating in public places and large crowds. Because of a trapped nerve, whenever I eat, my left eyelid bobs up and down whenever I eat. And I just feel uncomfortable in large crowds. Open spaces like a shopping centre I'm fine with, but it's things like parties, I just start to feel uncomfortable with everyone around.
After watching sunset beach when i was little I had a weird fear of mummies (like the eygptians) being hidden everywhere.
I was also scared rapists and murderers were hiding in the shadows of my bedroom when i went to sleep someone used to have to turn off the light when i went to bed after i checked all the corners of the room.
Right now I have a few but I can't really think of them
Eyelashes!! yeah I know weard huh? im fine if they are attached but if there not cringe I run a mile! I always imagine them going into my cerial and me eating them!!!! I cant stand eyelashs.. just eek! grose!!!
>>44 lol
I have a hydrophobia.
Having a wash and having a bath is fine it's just when I put water up to my face(so I have to use a sponge or flanel when I'm wahing so I don't see the water pooled in my hands), the sea, swimmoing pools and rivers that scare me.
A few years ago I went to a river with my friends for swimming and we went on the rocky area. I went to go sit on a rock by the water's edge and as I was about to sit down, I slipped and slid down the rock which went underneath the water and in to the middle of the river. I couldn't breathe, I was numb with cold and I couldn't swim at all. When I was shouting for help, a couple of my friends just thought that I was joking around but I wasn't and I went under about 5 or 6 times. When they finally got the idea that I wasn't joking, one of them jumped in and dragged me out. I was then stuck at home for two weeks with hyperthermia because it was that cold.
So yeah, water.
>>82 owtch...That sounds nasty :( When I was younger I hated water >< I'd scream at anything.
>>75 I have the ballon popping fear...It's horrible, I used to be okay with it, till a few weeks ago when everyone started popping ballons to get the pieces of paper in them and I just broke down. I think that sort of fear relates to the sound of gunshot (I was watching schindler's list a few nights before, waaayyyy to graphic for me)
Which is another thing I'm scared of. I can't watch films with guns in, at all. I can completely freak out if i do (I tend to stick to kids animated films...they're the safest)
I also have a very serious fear of heights and falling. It all started when I did a ariel trek (Treetop course thing) the night after it had snowed a little, I froze up and couldn't do anything, and my imagination is too vivid, I kept seeing what would happen if the rope snapped and I fell. And now I can barely walk up stairs without getting scard.
Buses are mine. Seriously, I can hardly walk onto one without freaking out. I freeze when there's one next to me when i walk down the road-even those little coaches scare me half to death!
I also have phobias. For starters, I Hate touching and crowds. I panick if I have to walk through a crowd or if someone th-ouches me. Even family memebers are barely allowed to do something (I remembered I punched my sisrter once because she put a hand on my shoulder).
2. I'm not fond of insects. And by that I don't mean the occasional spider in my bedroom or ants, but the creepy crawly things like cockroachers aand stuff.
3. I'm afraid of cats. Seriously, I'm fine with them as long as I don't have to pick them up. i once got scrathed in the face by one when I was little and that kinda stayed with me.
4. And for last, I'm afraid of social interaction. It must be an extension of my fear for crowds and touching, but I shut myself of when people of my age talk to me. Older people or children are fine, but my ages. NO.
I have a few phobias, but one of the most interfering ones is social anxiety disorder. Whenever I go out, I have to make sure I look as 'good' as I can, and if I'm having an off day I refuse to leave the house. If someone comments on my appearance or movements, even just watches what I eat, I go into panic mode. What's even worse is I play musical instruments with a passion, and I can't play in front of anyone. I have to wait until everyone is out the house before I can practise. The only exception is the teacher, but they end up playing along with me otherwise I just can't do it.
It's not a fear it's more like an annoyance, like open curtains. I always have the feeling people are watching me and critizing me. I like to wear PJ's around the house and I really don't want everyone to see me slacking off and stuff.
what I do fear are insects... if there is a god out there I would ask him why in godname he made those little crawly little creeps. No one gets happy seeing a spider. Atleast, I don't
I have to close all the doors before going to bed, including wardrobe doors and drawers. No idea why, but I get anxious and freaked out any otherwise.
I always have to check under the bed before I sit on it/get into it... I think maybe I'm scared that someone might be hiding there and grab my feet...? Kind of sad, I know.
I also don't like people seeing me (i.e. I hate going out in public), I hate having photographs taken, and I hate hate hate speaking to people I don't know; I freeze up and stutter when I try to speak... consequently everyone thinks I am a weird freak (not that they'd be wrong, but still)!

My fears are dogs and rollercoasters. I can avoid rollercoasters, but not dogs. They hate me and I hate them. I know people say they sense your fear and that's why they bark, but in my case they even bark at me when I don't even know they're there yet, and thus have no reason to be afraid of them.
I know where it came from though. When I was little some dog put his front paws on my shoulders and it towered above me. Since then they scare me to death.
>>92 Nothing embarassing though. It is kind of natural since dogs can be dangerous. Hell, my brother is afraid of dogs and we have five of them!
It just depends how bad the phobia is, I think, whether you grew up with friendly dogs around you and/or in your house or had only one bad recounter with a dog.
>>93 Let me put it this way. If I see someone with a dog who is about to cross my path, I will find another way.
This doesn't apply if the dog is small, like a chihuahua(sp?) of course, but shepherds, rottweilers and other big dogs have me shaking when they're not even close yet.
>>94 Just what I wanted to say, the fear can be everyhting (all dogs) or just a part of the canine phobia. It is logical for you to be afraid of big dogs, but I have to say I'm more wary of the mean little sneaky devils they call dogs.
>>96 I know. My neighbour has two border collies and the male one has already bitten my mother, my father and almost my. It only wags its tale ta me, but I still don't dare to get too close.
And their owners don't clean out the small place htey are allowed to live in either, the smell is horrible. And even after all those conversations with them about the dogs they still don't change anyhting.
I actually feel sorry for those dogs. IF I was a border collie, locked up in a very small yard the whole day, I would grow violent too.
>>96 I don't like the little ones any better, I just feel reassured by the notion I can punt them halfway across town if they so much as nibble on my shoelaces.
>>98 You shouldn't underestimate the determination of those small dogs. While large dogs have a bigger bite they tend to let go very quick while the small ones latch onto you and don't let go! Beware the small dogs!!
If a pit bull latches on to something and doesn't want to let go, you literally have to hit it over the head with a brick to make it!
I'd rather not be bitten at all, but if one does I'll kick it to death, and that's easier with a small dog. Sounds cruel, I guess, but I'd freak out enough to do it.
Yeah, Dogs. 10 years old. had an encounter with a muzzled dog, barking and growling like mad and running towards me. I think I outran the dog out of fear. My aunt and uncle have golden retrievers and two other dogs so I got over it.
My greatest fear, most uncomfortable thought is that I could be easily replaced, which is false of course, but still.
Geese.
They're terrifying.
(On an unrelated note, hey, I'm new here.)
>>104 When my dad was visiting his uncle's farm as a small boy in Africa, there was a goose trapped in the outhouse...not good...
I'm scared of spiders, which isn't very interesting, but I have a friend who is terrified of oranges XD
My fear is fairly common - spiders. Can't even look at a picture of one without shuddering and backing away.
My mother, on the other hand, is terrified of the buttons that have fallen off clothing. If they're attached, they're fine but once they've come off... she won't even touch them, let alone sew them back on.
I met a girl once who was terrified of balloons too. Just... ordinary balloons. Being the cruel child that I was, I made a game of chasing her around the bowling alley with one. ^^;
17, and still scared of the dark. But that doesn't beat this story.
Well, when i was 5, my dad had a Sega and Aladin for it. One night, i had this nightmare that the Genie (blue one) came outta my TV and ate me! For about 7 years, something had to cover my TV so he wouldn't come out. XD No telling, please!
I'm afraid to sleep on my back at night because I get followed by an Incubus during the day who likes to fuck with me, and if I lay on my back he sits on my chest. No joke. I'm also scared of being abducted and forced to mate with an alien, swallowing my teeth, a plane crashing into my house (I live near an airport), sleeping with my back to the room because there's all sorts of shit that moves, people in general, heights, being outside for too long because there's no running water to protect myself with, and being bitten by a building.
I have a very common phobia - spiders. But it had an interesting beginning: when I was about 5 or 6 my mom and I were coming home from somewhere and when we pulled into the driveway my mom noticed a spider. She decided to get out and squish it so it couldn't get in the house (it was huge!), and asked me to bring a large water bottle we had in the car. She took the water bottle and quickly smashed the spider. The reason it was so big...it was a garden spider with THOUSANDS of babies on it's back. Needless to say baby spiders went EVERYWHERE!!! Into the garage, up the side of my house, and up my mothers AND my legs. So yea, it's pretty much at the absolute least gagging and shivers - reserved for pictures, videos, and ones in cages at pet stores and such - but I have been physically ill several times and even passed out in the middle of a pet store when I turned around and my boyfriend at the time was holding a tarantula not 2 feet from me.
My sister is afraid of ants though...that seems like such a weird phobia to me. She even skipped breakfast one morning because she was the last to leave the house that day and there were ants crawling on the threshold to the kitchen and there was no one there to hand her something.
Physical contact that I don't initiate myself. Normally it's just people I don't know well, but if I'm especially tired or stressed out I get to where I can't even stand to be touched by family members. And it's really annoying at that point because I hate the fact that when my cute little brothers and sisters hug me my first instinct is to react violently.
O.O After kind of forgetting about this site for a long time - it's been what, seven months? - i come back to find so many replies to my topic I started! (I thought it'd eventually just be forgotten like most)
>112
Yeah, I agree with pyshical contact that you haven't initiated yourself. I've been working to get better at physical contact over the past months and I'm better at it now but I still have to be the one to initiate contact since when somebody suddenly touches me I'll jerk away.
chickens, the dark ,ghosts, hights and depts...
>>110 ...I really don't understand most of your weird fears. You are actually saying you can feel an 'incubus' sitting on your chest when sleeping on your back? ...Right. So you kinda have a demon who follows you every day and likes to move stuff in your room when you're asleep (with your back to it. i would think stuff would be moved when you're asleep regardless). And water somehow protects you... How? The first two I mentioned just reminds me strongly of the movie Paranormal Activity, which gave me the heeby-jeebies a few nights after watching it.
As for my weird and embarrassing fears... I haven't got too many of those, but I'll try and name a few. 1)I sometimes think people are watching and judging me whenever I walk into a room, or anywhere where there's groups of people, so I get somewhat nervous and self-conscious. 2)I'm afraid my dad will hit me when I think he's mad, or looks mad to me, even though he has never done that since I was in my mid-teens (not abusively). But more than that, lash out verbally. 3)I am very wary and alert when outside after dark alone.
>>115 A temporary fear because of watching the horror 'The ring' when I was six.
I had a small tv in my room and it was always on stand-by. That night I had pulled it out of the contact. But when my mother came in she thought it was a lamp and she plugged it in again, which caused it to be on stand-by again.
In the middle of the night I woke up and saw that the tv was on, that really scared me. I had a few weeks I didn't want to sleep in the same room as the tv.
Thank god that phase is over now...
>>115 I personally have never seen Paranormal Activity cuz it looked a little gay to me. Most of it is pretty weird because (and I really hate to sound like some whiney emo kid), me and my mother have had problems with paranoia since my brother died. I'm not trying to fish for pity but that might explain some of them.
@116 lol my cousin watched child's play
after that all stuffed animals had to be removed from her room...
I am deeply creeped out by mannequins. I don't know why. Every time I go to a store that has them, I have to walk by them really fast. The more detailed, the creepier they are.
Angel statues. It's a recent fear, too -- one brought on by Doctor Who and an overactive imagination. They just freak me out, with the way they're all calm and peaceful (and stone) one moment... then a snarling monster intent on killing you the next.
Fear of the dark,
Fear of spiders
Fear of Daleks
Fear of Zombies
Fear of being buried alive
Fear of Cybermen
Fear of the Slitheen
Fear of Evil giant robots.
fear of spiders
fear of being followed/stalked
Very strong fear of pain but not of death itself
Irrational fear of fish (don't laugh)
well and some other things I can't think of
...I would say a fire. Not small ones- I actually like candles and such- but the thought of large fires that destroy houses and all...I'm scared to death of them.
1: Being stalked
2: Dolls (they FREAK me out)
3: The Dark (SOMETHING'S GOING TO GET ME T^T)
4: DEATH/PAIN
5: Big Fire like 126
6: Tight Spaces
7: Thunderstorms
and some other phobias that would take up this whole page XD

I have a few fears too.
4: Being in putch black dark. I like the dark really, it's calming and relaxing. But being in dark to the point of not being able to see your own hand when you can feel it pressed up againest your nose...nu-uh! It's freaky not being able to see.
5: Drowning. But not in a way that you would think...I had a St. Bernard for a pet when I was little. She wouldn't hurt a thing, but she would tackle you to the ground and lick your face off. She did that and just wouldn't get up one time, I swear I was going to drown from slobber...and yeah. Now-a-days I can't go under any water at all.
And that's it...I think.
Most everything I fear is pretty standard fare, e.g., falling, impalement, death, small enclosed spaces, but then, there is...
My irrational fear of soggy, discarded things. Trash, hair, food worst of all, whatever. My skin will crawl and my stomach will flip. And I swear if somebody threatens me with that crap, I will blow my damn top~
Well,
1,Spiders are an obvious one.
2,Heights, though strangely I can go up to the top of a tall building and look down quite easily, which is weird because I can't even step onto the second rung of a ladder without freezing. Strange.
3,I don't like balloons if I think they're going to pop.
4,I detest that manufactured cotton wool. I hate the feel, I hate the sound, I hate the texture. I don't know why, but that stuff makes my skin crawl. Shudder
I am a man. i have no irrational fears. if i ever did, i punched them down with my epic testosterone and was like, "No! Stupid fear of stupid things! i shall be having none of your shiznit!"
But, yeah. Seriously. You can be afraid of anything, even ridiculous things like manufacture cotton wool. However, actually allowing those fears to cripple you is ridiculous. We have higher thinking brain systems so that we can overcome things like that.
Balloons. I am scared to death of balloons. Doesn't matter if they're a popping risk; if they're nearby, I'm not. Just looking at them makes me tremble.
The unknown. Not in the sense of the unknown future or death, but in the sense of emptiness and blackness in which anything could be lurking. I can't look down into deep, dark lakes for fear something will rise up out of it, and it's especially bad if there IS something sticking out of it. One time I went canoeing on a huge lake, and by a cliff face you could see the rock continuing down... down... down... into nothingness. Scared the living crap out of me and I can't even think about it without trembling. Another variant of this is looking at emptiness in space through a telescope. I instantly freak if there's not something to focus on that's NOT staring into empty blackness for billions of light years.
Needles. Just the thought makes me cringe and shiver and generally want to puke. And not because they're pointy; no, it's the feeling of them sliding into my flesh. I think it stems from when my entire arm swelled up after a shot and it still hurts when people punch me in the shoulder even years later...
The sudden turning on of lights. I do not fear the dark; in fact, I love it. But I cannot open my eyes IN the pitch dark; I far prefer the dark behind my own eyes, because there is no chance of the lights coming on and something suddenly being THERE. (Like a zombie. Which I'm also afraid of.)
Velvet. Less of a fear than a morbid dislike. I can't touch it without full-body shivers and tasting something weird on my tongue.
I'm scared of being overtaken by benevolence (because SCREW YOU good alignment!) and of driving through intersections in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Something about the intersections in that town make me feel like I'm going to be T-boned going across them. Eugh.
1: Meteors. I'm perfectly aware it's an irrational fear, but one incident where someone (whether jokingly or not) mistook a flare for a meteor I had a panic attack, and now my friends tease me for it.
2: Dying in a fire while sleeping. You know how adverts say 'if you're asleep you'll breathe in fumes and eventually die'? Well, the idea of burning alive and being aware of it doesn't bother me, but being asleep and not knowing seems a lot worse to me. Confuses me too.
3: Dark corners. I guess it's actually normal, but friends/family (read: my brother) like to jump out at me because of this, and they don't really help the fear.
I have a fear of slipping in the shower and impaling my skull on the water tap. Since our bathroom has a joint bath and shower, the tap for the bath has a narrow knob of sorts that forces the water to come out of the shower head when pulled up on. Its the perfect thing to punch a hole in my head if I accidentally fell T.T
Just thinking about it makes me nauseous.
Due to horrible experiences in my childhood, I'm terrible with being with guys intamatly. :| I didn't have a boyfriend till I was 17 because of it and it only lasted 12 days before I freaked out and the two of us split up (although we did go back to being friends). I realised from that brief relationship how terrible I was with guys and although I'm fine with hugging guy friends, I can't go any further than that or else I'll panic. Heck, even when I'm sat next to a guy who I know likes me, I start flinching... (=.=) Awkward...

Fireworks. They seems as if they're gonna fall on your head and they make this big BANG and it doesn't help that the muppets down the road set off a firework and it almost hit my house. I once had a panic attack on bonfire night :(
My top 5 fears:
---
And there you go, my top 5 fears.
wow, you really are some anti-social kid, aren'tcha?
i'm scared of the dark. i no i was surpossed to grow out of it but i haven't. if i can't see where i'm going i freak. i don't shut my eyes around people, don't wear anything like a blindfold and always cheak my room out before turning off the light. i'm really parnoid in everyday life so when i lights go out i'm convinced that people are there watching, waiting.
i'm also scaried of letting my guard down. why such i? they will only hurt me in the end.
>>138 I'm the same way, Miki. I'm no good with things beyond hugging...and I absolutely hate hanging around guys that like me. I'm always afraid their going to start talking to me and force me into a corner, emotionally or otherwise.
2.When a Praying Mantis looks at me. THEIR HEADS ARE CREEPY!!!
3. Open water, I think those weird water dinos still exist.
I hate hugs! They scare me. Also people dressed as cartoon characters (particularly the Disney ones like in Disney World/Land) scare the crap out of me. At Disney World (marching band trip) I wouldn't get within a 40 ft radius of a single character because I was terrified of them. One of my friends even teased me about it. Luckily, he's not one of my closer friends and I punched him and yelled at him for it.
I'm still scared of the dark, and I have a fear of practically everything that's either too loud or too quiet. ._.
I love hugs though, but I understand why people don't like them. I don't tend to give soft hugs, because I enjoy to squeeze. My friends just kinda, put their arms around you loosely, there's just no LOVE there DX
My fear is not being able to remember. Waking up one day and not knowing where you are, seeing your daughter and not knowing who she is. I am terrified that not even my memories are safe. It's the only thing that truly terrifies me. I've woken up in a cold sweat, or burst out crying in class from this thought.
>>145 I have the same fear. Clowns, mascots, anything that looks at you and says "Hi there!" as if they've known you for your whole life just plain scare me.
1) Losing either my hearing, eyesight or both. I just couldn't imagine life without either one. My favorite things in life involve me being able to see/hear. If I lose either one of those things, I'm screwed.
2) Asking out a girl who may be nothing like me: Yeah, although I have dealt with a break-up before, I keep searching for who I would consider my soulmate in the hopes that we'll remain a couple forever.
3) Raggedy Ann Dolls... GAH, THOSE SOUL-PIERCING EYES!!!!!!! (Though I actually like the Richard Williams film starring Ann and Andy... odd...)
I'm scared of sex
I have a horrible fear of seagulls. I can't even go to the beach without having a panic attack.
And I'm scared of oranges :/
Tall people also scare me, for some reason.
...bathroom windows.
I hate it, and absolutely refuse to go pee if it isn't shut locked and covered in some way shape or form. I don't know why though...
relationships.
for some reason the thought of someone being to into my life and shit bothers me...alot.
the dark outside.
only outside though...
Even though I hate hugs for year several of my best friend just don't get that so I've gotten some what used to hugs. I fear open water like oceans and lakes but pools don't bother me. I fear small spaces and people being really close too.
1.) Zombies
2.) the dark. I sleep with my tv on and muted. Though that is connected with the zombie thing because of The Walking Dead.
3.) Showers. I just freak out when it hits my face. I've been getting over it recently, thank goodness. I still don't let it hit my face, though >.<
4.) My bathroom window. that's connected to zombies and shaun of the living dead.
One of my best friends was afraid of girls. He would totally spaz out if it was any other girl aside from hime-sama or me, but it was really funny, especially at school. Another weird fear discovered through my friends, Flowers. How the hell that one worked out when none of them are allergic I don't know.
This is going to sound incredibly obvious but
I'm scared of scary things |D.
Okay, to be more specific, I'm scared of anything that I can see close up- for example I watched an episode of Ao Oni...
I couldn't sleep for two-three nights straight. I kept seeing that face and I heard breathing in my ear whenever I turned my back to the door... I have a bad overactive imagination of a night time.
I had to get a lamp because I didn't want to walk across my room to turn the light off //sob.
