The Magical Power of Reviews (56)

1 Name: DragonFriend95 : 2009-12-11 19:54 ID:DPNP5TKh

Okay, so today I was feeling absolutely TERRIBLE. School tests, missed lunch, spilled drinks, annoying friends, the whole shebang (always wanted to say that). By the time I went into computing I was about to rip someones head off.

Then I logged on and reread my reviews, and all that anger just seeped away, and I felt brilliant for the rest of the day.

Anything like this happen to anyone else?

2 Name: Me, Myself and I : 2009-12-11 19:59 ID:p/zXyrjC

Definitely. :]

Every day

4 Name: teknomancer2008 : 2009-12-12 03:35 ID:abDUlugE

not so often, as few review mine.

5 Name: JustAchild : 2009-12-12 07:04 ID:oXRQflM3

Reviews just brighten my day, even if they are critical, it's still nice to see people have read my story and taken the time to review..:)

7 Name: DragonFriend95 : 2009-12-12 16:34 ID:DPNP5TKh

Hey. Anon. Wondering when you'd show up to try and fail to sound mean and really come off as quite pathetic... Things like this are the reason why I reread reviews!

8 Name: Fee : 2009-12-13 14:15 ID:yXQusvEa

>>6 Ok, I've read that word (m8ch) five times and it STILL doesn't make any sense. Do one, will you?

And I love reviews. Mostly. Apart from when they flame.

9 Name: Elkkun : 2009-12-14 04:55 ID:p3SUjDML

@8 It's a typo. 8 and U are close together :)

Yeah I've felt like that...Really crappy then read a review and I just get that little sparkle and I feel all bubbly :D
Then I tell my mum and she's like "Oh cool." ._.' Then it's like "THANKS FOR BEING SO ENTHUSIATIC!" XD

10 Name: JayJ : 2009-12-14 11:22 ID:YZmWjRNe

i love it when people review your story as it just makes you feel better and also make you want to write more :)

11 Name: Junki : 2009-12-16 09:13 ID:9OD879ll

Reviews are a brilliant idea especially if it's really indepth. But even if it isn't, just a "hey good job" then it's still wonderful. I hate when you see the stats of you fictiona and see that hundreds of people have read it, but you still only have like two reviews, you sort of feel a little down after that, but then it makes the few reviews you do get, that much more special because someone has taken the time to actually tell you they enjoyed your work :)

12 Name: P!nkFan : 2009-12-16 09:24 ID:NcQpPNPW

Reviews rock! It makes me feel very proud to see that someone has read my story. You wanna know a secret on how to get more reviews? At the beginning of each story, say, "The first person to review gets a sneak peek/early preview of Chapter --"

13 Name: tiger002 : 2009-12-16 09:38 ID:qcUFeQ3Z

I normally try to give relativity in depth reviews, instead of just saying that was good. If it weren't for all teh people reviewing my stories, the odds are I wouldn't publish as much

14 Name: RayRay : 2009-12-16 10:06 ID:l9FmbGyc

I love getting reviews, it makes me smile so much, especially the ones I get from my two friends who are completely honest with me on msn, but then send me crazy reviews.

Even people who don't review, seeing the stats really brightens my day knowing that people have still looked at them and read them.

15 Name: Llama-Chan : 2009-12-16 12:49 ID:IrX6s5mb

All reviews make me happy! I once got this really long review, and damn I can't believe how long my reply was. Most of the reply was just "Thank. You. Thank. You. Seriously, thank you!"

16 Name: JustAchild : 2009-12-16 13:36 ID:oXRQflM3

Reviews are like friends- sometimes they're kind, sometimes they're not- however you can never have enough....

17 Name: DragonFriend95 : 2009-12-17 18:21 ID:ldp0Ke6U

>>16 That is too philosophical. I revert you back to childhood.

But it is true, though so far my reviewees are nice (if I ever get a flame, I'll probably freak them out by celebrating the fact he/she/it was my first flame, cause Im weird like that:P)

18 Name: Rolo : 2009-12-27 17:22 ID:JZpoTWDM

Love reviews so much :) They have brightened a bad day before. And made me more determined to finish my fic.

How I adore nice reviewers ^^ Especially if they're in depth. Con Crit also gives me a rush, strangely, because I'm always wanting to improve :)

19 Name: LR : 2010-01-01 18:49 ID:lJ9XoASr

Reviews are love! I don't let anyone else read my stories, so to know that someone who I don't know has taken the time is awesome. I love if they pick up on their favourite parts and they're mine too.

20 Name: ... : 2010-01-01 20:52 ID:nPeg6+vi

I find it depends on the review. If I get one that says, 'gud strry gonna alert write more bye', while not a BAD thing, it isn't particularly fulfilling. On the other hand, I recently got a lovely, long review from a woman who is an excellent writer, and an English teacher to boot. I also like a lot of concrit in reviews- it doesn't make you beam, but it's damned useful. The only thing that seriously annoys me is when someone alerts or favourites a story, and doesn't bother to review. It's just lazy. The story I recently got the review for had no other reviews, but it's the most favourited/alerted of my tales. Either people are alerting so they can have a good, hard laugh at my atrocious writing whenever a new chapter comes out, or they're lazy as hell. And if they are laughing, I'd quite like a flame- they're cute.

21 Name: bioldrawings : 2010-01-02 01:59 ID:YTQgxMAg

I really love detailed reviews. One of my latest stories got some concrit from another author who I really respect and I just about squee!d the house down. But even a little note with "v. nice, pls write more!" makes me happy, it's like a little chocolate on my pillow.

I used to get irritated when people favd or alerted without reviewing, but now I just count it as praise and get on with it. Admittedly there is nothing sweeter than a well-thought out lengthly review, but that's not why I write my stories.

22 Name: Windesque : 2010-01-04 13:26 ID:Xl5F4585

Reviews are amazing little things. They don't make my life a whole lot more wonderful, but it helps me keep faith in what writing skils I have. Even a short review saying that they liked it seriously helps boot your confidence and morale.

23 Name: moonphase9 : 2010-02-10 13:15 ID:Cka6ogvl

I was gearing myself up for flames and boo's. So getting not only positive, but Constructive crit from my reviewers has been absolutely amazing. Whilst I do not like the idea of begging for reviews, and write whether I get them or not, they definitly help.

24 Name: Jestervalaia : 2010-02-12 17:58 ID:xCj51CPj

I don't get many reviews, but when I do they're usually positive (maybe a little too short) which always brings a smile to my face.

25 Name: moonphase : 2010-02-27 14:59 ID:BVuTybpQ

I do not beg for reviews (as stated above) but there has been one fic that I feel is not being given any real feedback (that being said, the reviews I have got are positive.) When I look at how many people read it, it kind of gets me down. It's suprising, because I like to think I'm above that sort of thing, and whilst I enjoy reviews, I do not think they are a right to be demanded. However, the lack of response has gotten me down- its like playing infront of an audience, doing a big finish, and the audience just staring back at you; no one cheering or booing. Just silence. It's disconcerting to say the least and has me worried that I'm doing something horribly wrong; my writing is not the best and my ideas can be quite unoriginal. So now I'm going over this fic trying to figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. Ah well, I'll stop being a cry baby now!

26 Name: Hex3618 : 2010-02-27 15:20 ID:+z7xacoE

I get overexcited; even if I see that one reader actually read my story I get really happy. Even though most of the time it's my very close fan friend :P

But reviews can be good for a story; I wrote a oneshot, then people reviewed asking (politely) if I was continuing, and now it's about 60000 words long XP

27 Name: FluffyKeira : 2010-03-21 09:27 ID:epMJEQTW

I know what you mean! Reviews really put me in a good mood, so I always try to go through them in the morning. They're like anti-depressants! They make you very happy, but addiction is very probable, if not unavoidable... XD

28 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-03-21 10:05 ID:9CUC9wR6

I don't beg for reviews, but I always leave a little reminder at the end of each chapter, sometimes a particular question I want to know about. It's more just so they know I want their opinions rather than being a writer who insinuates "don't like, don't review."
Still, they do give ya that nice warm feeling. Most of mine have been a few lines of praises, but I appriciate them all the same. One of my first few reviews for my first story was very constructive and very helpful (I had no idea what a Mary-Sue was before then :s) but since then most have just been comments on how well the chapter went, maybe the odd suggestion I incorporate into the story a little later. They do brighten up my day for a while. :)

I do get a bit annoyed when people have favorited or saved and then not reviewed. I'd like to know why they did that, was it good or do they like laughing at it? I can't really talk, mind, I put some stories on alert long before I review just so I can see how it's going later. Then review.

29 Name: Firefly Princess x : 2010-03-24 15:09 ID:FgLmVMBa

In the morning I always get to school, then check my emails, praying for reviews- if there is one, I'll be really chirpy. If there's two, I'll have a permanent grin on my face for the rest of the morning. -If there's three or more I'll start jumping up and down and clapping. -If there was ever, say, over 10, I would probably have a happiness breakdown.
But you know. That's just me.

30 Name: Firefly Princess x : 2010-03-26 09:43 ID:cTIuuGzL

>>29 Not that I'm sad or anything

31 Name: Lady Arianne : 2010-06-26 08:07 ID:GRiIANk8

That's not sad, everyone loves reviews ( i admit that i do ) and once i logged onto my email one morning and i almost had a heart attack because of the amount of reviews i got that night, its just a nice feeling.

32 Name: LR : 2010-06-27 15:55 ID:HRM4y8aP

@Firefly Princess x

Definately not sad! Although we won't always admit it, I think a part of why we all post is for feedback. We write because we love to write, we post both hoping that others get some enjoyment too but also to be appreciated for doing something we love. It's time consuming and a lot of effort so it's always nice to be appreciated for it!

33 Name: Aver : 2010-07-18 13:12 ID:jqPL1Q53

Oh yes. Reviews absolutely make my day. I don't get reviewed often - which is a shame, as I put a lot of effort into my stories - but when that happens, I'm usually happy for the rest of the day. It doesn't matter if it's a 'love this, update soon' or a well-rounded review full of criticism; it'll have made my day anyway. I love reviews.

34 Name: Dirge : 2010-08-03 14:51 ID:SHUxvNFu

I love reviews, mainly because you can get critisism from people who write differently than you, and I like to believe I've improved a lot because of them.

35 Name: Beau : 2010-08-03 15:09 ID:cWlwCGA7

I like reviewers that point out imagery and stuff you learn about at school and then forget the name of later on. And of course, the simple ones that just say they love the story. But I can't stand the ones that basically demand you update or get pissed because you didn't do things exactly their way >.< Ugh.

But yeah, reviews are good ^o^

36 Name: Jen : 2010-08-04 06:13 ID:seFhzNkk

Aieee, I love reviews! Any one that is nice or has constuctive crit is lovely for me. When I posted a review on sat. night the next morning I got 3 reviews and was a little bummed because I was expecting at least four. And then I got three more over the coruse of the day and I just got happier and happier. xD Seeing the traffic can also raise my happiness bar occasionally; if a fic has over 100 hits for the day I get ectastic. =]

37 Name: enihpledamira : 2010-08-07 01:14 ID:dxZbVeHG

I love reviews! 1 review is enough to make me smile for the rest of the day
I'm thinking of stoppin to update one of my stories because I get a lot of hits, but no reviews

38 Name: Tristana : 2010-08-08 02:22 ID:/ljwRNQL

I got a review today and was all: yush, someone raising very interesting points about my story! I was really happy but then I noticed that it was an Anon review and that the name given did not match any ff.net user... And since it's a one shot, I can't exactly post another chapter just to answer... sad

I read an amazing story for D. Gray Man where the author says 'if you fav, review else I PM you to ask'... that's bit much but I should do this with a 'if you review, give an address for me to answer'. But again, my fics are not that 'popular' or 'awesome' so... reviews have double values.'^^

39 Name: 1superkawaii : 2010-08-11 13:38 ID:rxM4xQXe

It's nice and encourageing to see a good review, but I don't write for reviews. The important thing is that I like what I'm writing, and wont change it for others entertainment.

40 Name: aikora : 2010-08-13 08:58 ID:/E5PfDKv

I always look forward to reviews, although mostly i get "update soon" and "good chapter".

I would like to see actual reviews more often but either way it makes my day to see that someone is enjoying my work.

41 Name: YamiTenshi : 2010-08-21 00:01 ID:uyqMQfEa

I enjoy reviews that actually say why people liked the story and/or have constructive criticism because both are useful.

Anyone else got a problem with phantom favers? Y'know, fav it and run without saying what they liked about it? It's good to know they like the story at all, but then they don't say WHY. It irks me.

42 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-08-21 00:23 ID:Q5PrC/h4

>>41 especially when you look at their profs and favs and you find your story to be one of the one billion stories they have faved

43 Name: YamiTenshi : 2010-08-21 09:33 ID:uyqMQfEa

Exactly!

The last time I tried to track down a phantom was right after they changed the system, so if you hadn't written any stories it no longer said 'zero stories' and instead was defaulted to the person's favorite list. That was really disorienting. I was like 'WHOA, this person has written a lot of stories'. cue facepalm I only figured it out when I actually clicked on a story and saw the author's name.

44 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-08-21 09:50 ID:Q5PrC/h4

my latest story goes from bad to worst :/

first chapter had 5 review because I raised a question,
second chapter had 3 review, and my 3rd one had 2.
I guess the next one will have 1 and then I'll stay writing for myself only T_T

45 Name: tiger002 : 2010-08-22 19:14 ID:hL7gXpYt

I just got a review that really made me happy. It wasn't much, just saying that they really liked the plot but saying that they liked the story enough to read all of it even though it's turning into a long series. Just seeing new people reading really makes me happy.

46 Name: starry eyes : 2010-08-24 17:17 ID:fmCfNg6+

I recently got a review that encouraged me to replan a very prolonged story of mine (nearly a year, shame on me!) and made me feel good to boot. Other people's reviews before this one were nice too, but this latest one asked whether I will continue my story because she/he really liked it and found the plot interesting. It was polite in wording, which made me feel so guilty about leaving my story off for so long from someone who'd enjoyed it. It reminded me of the other readers who had reviewed and story alerted/faved, and are still waiting, and that did it. I had to continue it!
So reviews aren't only good for making you feel nice, but also to encourage you to keep going (^_^) Thank goodness for reviews.

47 Name: MissTiraMissSu : 2010-09-29 16:06 ID:MZlizp3q

Reviews... I get random messages to update my older ones... and my new one is totally ignored. BAH... But i know a guy that ALWAYS reviews, I love his criticism. It makes me happy. Reviews are the blood of the author.

48 Name: Mikano Zirake : 2010-10-09 23:29 ID:F82y3sLW

Reviews are what keep me from ending it. jk, but they really help me out on a sucky day. Thank God for Reviewers! ^^

49 Name: Gin : 2010-10-13 07:06 ID:hoKeDx9b

I have one reader who consistently reviews my stories - I seriously love getting one from her, because they're always so detailed and I swear she has an uncanny ability to pick out all the deeper meaning I slip into the stories, or figure out exactly what I'm intending with an otherwise throw-away comment. (Recently I was writing a bit that felt like it came from one character's perspective, and then I realised that it was actually the antagonist -- deliberately mimicking the character's voice. Wonder if it'll throw her for a loop...)

But I absolutely love it when I get reviews where my stories have made people think, or pause to consider a character in a new light -- like one time where I made the contraversial decision to portray a sadistic, twisted antagonist as a child caught between two natures: part of him pure, part of him genuinely wavering on evil.

Then there's the guilt when people comment about the emotion in my stories, particularly when they say it almost made them cry... oops

50 Name: Yellow 14 : 2010-10-16 10:48 ID:Lc+nuM52

Have to love reviews, they keep us going

51 Name: D : 2011-02-27 23:54 ID:49uZVbIa

Reviews are definitely the best thing ever. It's what keeps me writing.

52 Name: Katie : 2011-04-27 06:30 ID:x37lmXHF

I love getting reviews because I immediately want to write another chapter to my story. Plus after a day where everything seems to be going wrong and you just feel like crap it's nice to know that someone actually likes what your writing.

53 Name: J.E.McCormickGal : 2011-04-27 13:40 ID:G7IheEr0

Reviews are one of the main reasons I write.
I first started posting fanfictions after my boyfriend dumped me and it really got me down.
But writing and getting positive feedback just makes me smile, it's made me so much happier, really.
I love the feeling of achievement you get, like 'someone likes it. I did good!' and... it's just such a lovely feeling ^^

54 Name: KaiHillover◆2BozL9qisE : 2011-05-21 16:42 ID:0f1ldOJr

It does get annoying when your stories getting hits and faves and are added to the alert lists but the people are too lazy to review, it doesn't take that long to write a few sentences people! But I still love everyone who reads, and add my stories to the faves and alerts lists. I love you all! ^_^ hugs for u all

55 Name: Gunny-Chan : 2011-05-23 19:17 ID:bx/5NtUT

I love re-reading my reviews because it makes me feel really happy that my readers like my story.. and when I read the "please update soon" messages it gives me motivation to tyoe up the next chapter and my happiness starts all over again!!~ ^.^

56 Name: Elkkun : 2011-05-28 03:08 ID:egLm2R0z

>>49 Ah, yeah...I wrote a torture story, posted it on DA and uhm... A few people told me they loved it, and I kinda almost gave people emotional scars from reading it (by emotional scars, I mean I made them feel what my character was, which HURTS xD;;) felt proud, but terrible that I almost made them cry, or put them through pain ;u;
