Is anyone else starting to get bored of Twilight? (257)

1 Name: Kitaune-Naruto-Kun : 2009-10-31 18:11 ID:M3VXO2m/

Or is it just me?

I think that people are going overboard with Twilight in England

It's all anyone talks about! It's starting to get annoying

2 Name: DarthRevanShepard : 2009-10-31 18:14 ID:Zzp3qWPA

WOW! There IS actually someone who isn't a twatlight fangirl!

Yes, people go on and on about it as if it's the best thing since Shakespeare or Dickens or Agatha Cristie.

It is NOT that great, yeah it's ok but it's seriously flawed, get it into your heads already! Oh, and Robert Pattinson isn't hot. Oh yeah, I went there.

3 Name: Chris000 : 2009-10-31 20:33 ID:fFfDmqRN

Since Shakespeare? If Shakespeare saw this, he'd turn ass-up in his grave!

My friend told me of a story even worse than Twilight if that was even possible. I don't remember the name but it involved 'vampyres', was set in Tulsa and involved a Mary-Sue so BLATANT, that she could possibly be on-par with Ebony Dark'ness. Something Redbird...

4 Name: Pondweed : 2009-11-01 05:32 ID:lXV3mhkS

Hallelujah! I was starting to think I was the only sane person on the planet! I read them, loved them for about a month, and then re read them and thought "What crap..."
Oh, and DarthRevanShepard, I completely agree! Robert Pattinson is REALLY not fit!

Is it possible? Finally people who DON'T love Twilight? YES! I had fallen asleep during the movie, and then my friend asked "Is it getting a bit exciting for you?-Insert-name-here-" It was...lame, I have to admit. And Bella couldn't act. AND I found Edward repulsive. Seriously, I couldn't begin to get into it.

8 Name: DarthRevanShepard : 2009-11-01 06:57 ID:7FI+k4bZ

lol I know, my friend made me sit through the movie and I completely spaced out on the whole thing. And now she's making me go see New Moon, dear god why won't the torture end! The 'actors' in it can't even act! They talk in the same tone of voice ALL THE WAY THROUGH!

9 Name: Jaydie : 2009-11-01 11:43 ID:K2t/Wyp5

I don't particularly like Twilight. They're kind of like my guilty-pleasure books (which is the same thing as not really liking it, obv). However, I don't dare to voice my opinions at school, in fear of being attacked by many obsessed fangirls.

Also, Edward's a stalker, Jacob's character was destroyed in the last book, and Robert Pattinson never washes his hair. He waits for it to wash itself =S

10 Name: RoseMMBlack : 2009-11-01 11:59 ID:lnKN7ZVF

I liked the books, I passivly readed them and enjoyed it. But I AM NOT A FAN! I liked it, but I wouldn't date my boyfriend to ahve someone like edward.

11 Name: Kitaune-Naruto-Kun : 2009-11-01 12:59 ID:M3VXO2m/

I am SO DAMN GLAD I AM NOT ALONE!

I really can't stand how MAD people are over Twilight! It's doing my head in!

12 Name: DarthRevanShepard : 2009-11-01 13:05 ID:Inq9cztQ

>>9 It is not romantic for a guy to break into your house and watch you while you sleep. In Stephnie Myers mind Edward=romantic in reality Edward=strange stalker and pedophile. I liked Jacob in the 1st and 2nd books but then in the 3rd book she suddenly makes him into a women beating, rapist-like bastard. I thought he was meant to be sweet and innocent. To me it seems like Meyers doesn't even understand her own characters.

13 Name: Rhi.Scissorhands : 2009-11-02 09:37 ID:JQf3hID4

Chris000 you're talking about the House of Night series, they are actually really good.

I used to be really into Twilight but, yeah, as Kitaune-Naruto-Kun said, people are going overboard with it in england. It's just not fun to like it anymore, all the "fans" who only like it because it's the it thing right now, really ruin it for everyone else. It's more like a chore to like it thesedays.

14 Name: The Unreal Insomniac : 2009-11-02 10:12 ID:M0CdXTdv

@Chihime, oh come to Stafford I'll introduce you to at least 12 people who think Twilight is a smear on the name of Vampires I assure you.

I won't go into detail of why I don't like the series cus I'll get shot down and I don't have the temperment to deal with that crap right now lol.

But let me just say, I read about a chapter of the first book, it's just goddamn awful and unoriginal I mean human girl falling for hot/brooding/haughty vampire boy, complications ensue but all goes well in the end? Please.

15 Name: DarthRevanShepard : 2009-11-02 11:42 ID:ILWrrbZm

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the British Twilight fangirls have only read Twilight and not any other book? I was talking to one of my friends who 'loves' Twilight and she was giving me a lecture on how brilliant it was, so I asked her 'So what other books have you read?' and she suddenly went silent.

16 Name: His Friend Helena : 2009-11-02 12:48 ID:qmuq79qO

Anyone else think that the Bella in the film (dunno her name) is a crap, whiny, depressing person who, although looking a bit like her, and is nothing like the funny Bella in the books?

Robert Patterson is a complete mong and should wash his hair once in a while

the film completely put me off, and how far everyone takes it

17 Name: LOLitsRobyn : 2009-11-02 14:58 ID:7HHVsHvV

I'm sick of it! I used to like it, but lately its started annoying me so badly, mainly due to the fans.

@DarthRevanShepard I noticed that! I went around to my friends house the other week, and the only books she had on her shelf were the Twilight books. I don't even think she likes any other books.

18 Name: Jodie : 2009-11-02 15:15 ID:u5FvqS3r

I read the books before the film and thought thay were amazing.I was even going to get T-shirts and stuff. I was Obsessed. But Then the traliers started and everyone went CARZY acting as if they knew it all. I was starting to get pissed off.

Everyone started talking as if they know the whole story when they didnt. Then the movie actually came out and more crazyness!! The Film wasnt even that good! And Like : DarthRevanShepard said The actors cant act!!! Esspecially that winy, un talented, Un bella fool they have playing bella! Althought I fought the actoress playing alice was good.

People who havent read the book thinks that the movie is heven but its not! If they want to call themselves real twilight fans then they need to read the book!

And then theres the Rob Patterson fan clubs!! OMG Get a grip! He is not good looking. Taylor lamptner is hotter by miles! Not only that but he swans around like he owns then place AND he cant sing to save his life!

Meyers Wrote and amazing book and the film people ruened it! Stuppid! Stuppid!

haha Little rant over x

I kind of like Twilight but I'm not obsessed. It's getting like it's a crime to admit you enjoyed reading twilight - people stare at you incredulously, start to edge away, and quickly change the subject.

Yes, some of the fans are ridiculous. Most of my friends love Twilight. I know basically everything you can know about Twilight by now due to rereading, endless conversations with friends, and watching the film OVER and OVER again >:(

The film is rubbish. I love watching it - it makes me burst into hysterics at least twice every scene.

I agree- rpattz is not hot. he is not fit. has anyone SEEN the New Moon close ups? Ick. that comes from a proffesional teenage female. There.

But I absolutely love The Host, SM's other book. It's just amazing. Apparently there's going to be a movie of it, though, so THANK YOU MISTER MOVIE MAKER FOR TAKING MY LST SAFE HAVEN.

20 Name: dance with the devil : 2009-11-03 15:09 ID:wBZ0oteb

the fans annoy me. I used to like Twilight, but before all the hype about it. The fan-girls put me off it, especially when the films came out. the whole Rpattz thing gets on my nerves. any teenage girl who says he isn't a total hottie is instantly some kind of freak. when honestly he isn't

21 Name: MyButterfly364 : 2009-11-03 17:11 ID:M04sptpr

I am the same as most of you guys here....I used to like Twilight...a long while back....but since Breaking Dawn and the films everyones just gone nuts for it....It just feels like its constantly being dragged out. It kinda makes me sad to think a book I used to like I cant stand anymore...anytime I even attempt to read it I just find faults. sigh.I have however found comfort in Cassandra Clares mortal intruments trilogy and The lost symbol. So it cant be all bad right? :D

22 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-03 18:41 ID:zB49r2QF

I dont like "R-patz" and I despise the girl who play Bella.

I love the books. But I don't obsess.

That place in my heart is reserved for Harry Potter books.

And Draco Malfoy.......

=]

23 Name: The Unreal Insomniac : 2009-11-03 21:20 ID:M0CdXTdv

Is R-patz the guy who plays Edward then? Sorry I really seem to be the only person I know who didn't see that film. I just heard that the same guy who played Cedric played Edward, and I thought he looked alright :S Then again, I'm male and straight so my opinion is probably meaningless on male attractiveness lol.

I couldn't stand the hype made about the film it made me ill. Now I've read a chapter of the first book and got bored, so I only know the names Bella and Edward, and I only know Edward from friends who are obsessed with it and a little brother filling me in on the film. But I refused point blank to watch a film with so much hype which looked like it was going to be a waste of a fiver.

Fair does to those of you who love the book or the film, just don't scream at me for not agreeing with you that it's the best vampire book of all time. Ah that was funny, someone tried to argue the Twilight was better than Bram Stoker's Dracula or Interview with a Vampire. Shot that bitch down by the way XD.

24 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-04 09:08 ID:EMxuOkK5

Can I shoot her down with you! That's insane....

How can a teenage romance story - even one i love - be bettr than one of the best love stories ever (Bram Stokers), as well as an amazingbook, or Interview with a Vampire, which is just awesome!

-sigh-

Some people....

25 Name: Princess Tiger : 2009-11-04 09:11 ID:aL28bz6L

I'm really not that bothered about Twilight; people can read it, but as long as they don't try and force me to read it, I'm fine.
However, my friend is a little obsessed and learnt all the words to the New Moon trailer, every last one. Some people in Year 9 are just as bad, they carry magazines around with pictures of the guy who plays the vampire in it and oggle at them at break, sad huh?

26 Name: Tokyo Girl 05 : 2009-11-04 11:57 ID:2P74L27U

LOL Twilight is just amazing how they managed to make almost every single girl go gaga over it XD

It makes me laugh especially when i have my friend fangirling down my ear about OMG New Moon is coming out soon!! WE HAVE TO GO!!!

ME: rubs ears .....ouch.....

Although i will admit i really did enjoy reading the series.....i just don't want to be deafend by my over crazy fangril friends XD

27 Name: The Unreal Insomniac : 2009-11-05 05:51 ID:M0CdXTdv

>>24 Yeah, she was stupid. I've never had reason to argue with a girl three years younger than me before but I did. Made her cry, something I'm not proud of, but it really was stupid.

The awesomeness of Lestat, he may be French upper class but still, he's freaking awesome. I lost my temper completely when she said it was better than Dracula. Absolutely mad.

28 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-05 08:53 ID:QAVriBb4

Thats like someone saying that people tell fairy tales better than the Brothers Grimm...In my opinion anyway

I suppose if she was young she might not have read those books, or seen those movies for that matter, mst people have seen the films.

How old was she?

29 Name: Bagel : 2009-11-05 10:13 ID:usabzK/Z

I feel ashamed to admit I like twilight these days
and its driving me insane
just because SO MANY FREAKING PEOPLE
are like overly crazed obsessed with it
its like OMG A FANGIRL RUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!
me and my friends used to be really into into it about 2 yrs/1 yr and a half ago
waiting for the 4th book and the movie was soo much fun
and we would have little debates and convos just between us
now its not even about the book or the movie anymore, its a franchise
Twilight is now labelled: the losers guide to a friday night or crazy teens need to get a boyfriend
I hate when it comes up in conversation and I kind of just grimace and go 'yeah I loved the books, watched the movie the first day it came out and cant wait to see new moon' and wait for the reaction of the poor soul im talking to.
I think I liked it better when no one had heard of it, at least you could appreciate it.
Now its either you LOVE it or you hate it. and people get labelled because of it
sorry it just frustrates me so much that something I really liked is now like admitting you eat puppies or something
although now that im getting older there are so many faults and plot holes with the books, especially Edwards character...
I can actually feel my childhood dying HAHA
anyways rambling....

Well I was 17-18 at the time so, probably some where between 14-15

She wasn't much younger and age never stopped me from reading or watching anything the government thought I shouldn't at my age lol.

And you are quite right, Brothers Grimm stories are brilliant.

31 Name: The Unreal Insomniac : 2009-11-05 11:19 ID:M0CdXTdv

Oh don't worry Bagel, try reading Harry Potter books at about 16+ and if you don't find a plot hole by the first chapter of any book, you still have some childhood innocence

32 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-05 13:39 ID:rx2xpzGR

I thrive on finding plot holes, but more with movies.

My mum said I should have been a movie critic, because I just notice the most unneccesary things.

Like if someones dress is out of place one second and then right the next, without any obvious modifications....

I'm sad.

I like to think I still retain my childhood innocence, though I don't know...I love Harry Potter, and still watch cartoons like I did when I was 8. I know I'm only 19...but still.

It's awesome.

33 Name: Ray : 2009-11-05 13:47 ID:iHvswy6d

Grrr. have actually read all of them, and so I feel like I have the right to the opinion that S.Meyer's great talent is extending sexual tension over four books! Besides Edward is such a whiner, ad a shitty boyfrend. And (sorry, big feminist, feminist rnt coming up) cannot LIVE without him! She should dump him and get a life. But hey, she's fictional so I could forgiver IF people did not talk baout Twilight ALL THE TIME!!! They were a fun read, but guys - Mr Knightly, Heathcliff, etc. - they're all out there waiting, guys! (girls?)

34 Name: Kimly : 2009-11-07 02:51 ID:cIr/z3ES

Gah! So true, Twilight is becoming so boring!! I don't like it anyway, but I didn't mind my friends talking about it...endlessly...then they tried to convince me to like it. I read the firs two to prove a point, and I NEVER give up on a book half way through...you have no idea how hard it was to stick to that while read the second one especially.

In short - I'm sick of it. People can like it, except they NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT IT!!

35 Name: FameAndJoy42 : 2009-11-09 13:14 ID:pAQl1koT

I saw the film first, thought that was boring and the only two good things were Carlisle Cullen and the end.

I've read the majority of the first book but to be honest, I didn't actually read it. I'm apparantly up to the Baseball scene and whenever I try to read it my mind goes BLEURGH DOES NOT COMPUTE.

To be honest, I don't think it's a good read. Nothing exciting happens, Bella is just silly, Edward is dull and if he sparkles, then he's a oversized fairy.

36 Name: Kimly : 2009-11-10 12:28 ID:cIr/z3ES

Too true!! Nothing at all seems to happen in either of the first books (the only ones I've read) until the very end, then it just suddenly STOPS. No build up, no wind down, nothing.

And Bella irritates me. She's just...well...again, I agree. Silly.

37 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-11 00:50 ID:VzqB8bPM

I like the books. Guilty as charged...

But I agree with most of the things here. It's overrated - so many amazing authors get overlooked because of it. All my friends are like this.
I insulted Edward once, I don't think I've ever heard silence like it...it was...deafening.

ROBERT PATTINSON IS UGLY AND GREASY!

There....I said it.

That being, I read the books, and my favorite character is Jacob. He's real, he gets angry, he bleeds, and he's a werewolf.
And he's warm. I'm always cold, so cold people would worry me. And make me colder.

Edward has no emotions, is a control freak, and Bella just happily goes along with everything he says. What kind of self respecting girl does that. If he took the battery out of my car so that I couldnt see someone I wanted to see, I would smack him with it, and then not talk to him again.

But Bella STILL lets him into her bed that night.

-sigh-

Rant over...feel free to LOL at this. I know I will =]

38 Name: sheechiibii : 2009-11-11 03:28 ID:RE0dmNOs

I really like Twighlight, the book, but I'm not too crazy about the film. It was a good representation, though I don’t like Robert Pattison, I went to see it twice, and I'll go to see New Moon, but I don't really consider myself one of the crazy fangirls. There are some people out there who are just mad though. It doesn't really annoy me though, when people are like that. Each to their own lol
Xx..xX

39 Name: Obsidian : 2009-11-12 13:02 ID:Uz4uQ9St

To start with I agree with Ray-Ray, the amount of attention the books now get from every bloody adolescent in the entire country is overwhelming. It's like a pandemic, Twi-flu...coming to a teenager near you.

I read the books when they were fairly new and I waited for the third and fourth ones to be released. I liked them then and because it was unknown then, I could have a decent chat with one of my friends without some randomer turning around and jumping at my throat when I insulted Edward/Bella. I like Jacob, he has to be the best character in the book, and although Taylor Lautner is an attractive person (Mmmmm...Taylor Lautner.) I still think the movie isn't quite upto scratch but that's my inner book purist talking.

Then on aoter note, some crazy person comes along and states that to not have a completely fixed view on the book (to them you have to love it or hate it) you must be a freak who hasn't read the book properly. It really bugs me when you can't have your own opinion. I like the books, not as much as before due to the craziness surrounding it right now but it's an alright read. I hate Bella and Edward for their lack of personality and blatant author self-insertion/fantasy and the lack of a plot in the final one.

Anyone else dissapointed with the abomination that is...Renesmee? Seriously, it's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time and for the entire time she was in BD I either laughed or hit my head against the table repeatedly.

Right, that's my rant over. Sorry about that. :D

40 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-12 15:12 ID:YXjkiYlj

I was a bit freaked out by Renesmee.

For one, terrible name.

But yeah, she was just weird. Born with teeth, no thanks. Not for me.

41 Name: Darkangelsmind : 2009-11-13 10:25 ID:+pkesAAj

I loved the books but the film just spoilt everything (in my opinion) Why did Edwards charachter in the book have to be destroyed by Rob Pattinson?!? He REALLY ISN'T that fit!! tbh he's a bit of a tramp!

42 Name: Rachel Cabbit : 2009-11-13 12:44 ID:m9tXeoBv

I was recommended the books on a forum I used to be part of (which sadly died a few years back) and I read them long before the hype of the film.
I enjoyed them. I have to say I really enjoyed them.
Then the film came out and people I suggested the books to who said they wouldn't like them and refused to read them suddenly adored the books.
It became a big thing, an obsession for teenage girls.
I loved the film and saw it a few times (saw it in advance of the release date because I worked at the cinema, then saw it a few more times after because it was for free)
But after rereading the books I picked up on how badly written they were and how mary-sue Bella is, how misogynistic Edward is, how much Breaking Dawn is glorified fanfiction... so now I am not so intrested in Twilight.

That said, if I were still working at the cinema instead of being stuck in Japan, I would be previewing New Moon next week and probably enjoying it.

43 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-13 16:52 ID:XzPoPOyj

I'll admit, I only read the books because of the film. When I heard it was a book first I wanted to know the story, so I borrowed it and loved it. Thought the film was terrible.

Then I got the others for xmas. I like the books. But I think they could have been written a lot better.

Glorified fanfiction...I do like that :)

Oh gawd. My girlfriend absolutely loves it. Me, not so much. And when I say not so much, I mean not at all. Even slightly.
Ok, her being bi and me being fully lez probably has something to do with it, but I have to ask: what the hell is so special about Edward Cullen? :S
Dude's a ninety-year-old self-hating virgin.

Thought he was 116....
but yeah very true.

I dunno... vampires are alluring for some reason.
Maybe the excessive description of how perfect he looks in the books has something to do with it. Readers are brainwashed into thinking he is some sort of God because he is sparkly, knows people's thoughts and is described as unbelieveably hot every few paragraphs.

46 Name: Rez190 : 2009-11-13 19:30 ID:IC++tGFA

I read all the books in one go. I guess I was curious/fascinated by all the hype the film was getting. I always think that if a movie was copied from a book, then the book must be a great read... But I was sadly mistaken. The Twilight Saga books are crap and so is the film.

One thing I don’t get about the book is how the author was able to write a happy ending for Bella? I mean, no one ever dies or gets badly hurt in her life. She falls in love with the ‘hottest’ guy in school, marries him, has his baby and gains some kick ass special power and everything ends happily for her! What the hell? The author obviously doesn’t understand how to write a good story.

The book is defiantly badly written! I mean, the best thing about the whole book was the ‘Volturi’s’. Because I actually thought the whole saga was building up to how The Cullen’s will kill/destroy them. But no, all that happened was they talked things over! Who does that? The massive fight they were all preparing for was solved by talking! I was so hoping that someone dies or gets badly injured! But nope, another disappointment.

I should have actually stopped reading from the point that baby, Renesmee is born. And what’s the deal with Jacob falling in love with a baby? What sick, twisted fantasy does the author have? I mean, that’s a baby! There’s a word for men like that and it’s called ‘paedophile’!

I don’t get how teenage girls could like this as this is a very demeaning book to them. Bella, a teenager, falls in love with a guy who’s a control freak. Who Leaves her for no good reason, tries to kill himself afterwards then come back to her life to control everything in there. After marrying him, he makes her beg him for sex! I mean.. .What the hell? Is this author nuts?!

Ok… I had to get this all out! Sorry for the long comment!

Ok, when I first heard about Twilight, it was my friend at college being really... Fangirl with someone else. It was all "O mi GAWD" and i just sat there with my manga and asked what they were on about. When Devon (my friends name) said she was exited about New Moon, i pulled out my phone and researched the plot. I then replied "Somerset, I'd rather peel my eyeballs whilst having my nuts squeezed in a vice with a soundtrack of Barney The Dinosaur making my ears bleed."

She then kicked me between the legs, but my point still stands.

I love you, you love me...

I LOATHE Twilight, especially the fandom.

Seems like it's saturated the fandoms on FFn, and I know a few people seem to suddenly adore the series just because of the fact the writing is so poor that it can be transplanted easily into a fanfiction.

PLEASE will people stop writing Twilight crossovers... Or I will get really cross over the tripe on FFn again.

49 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-14 21:31 ID:E/JoHU8N

I think I might have to kill my writer friends if they EVER write a twilight character.

I still stand by the fact that I like the books. I also say they could have been much better written.

So many people hate it, I'm actually surprised to learn that not everyone is in love with it.

For those who can tolerate it, what do you think the best book is? For me - its Eclipse...

50 Name: Obsidian : 2009-11-15 07:57 ID:Uz4uQ9St

I also like the books but the characters spoil it for me and the way it's written. For my favourites, it's either New Moon or Eclipse because they have the most interaction with the Cool Jacob instead of the soppy prattish kiss-ass one in Breaking Dawn.

And also because New Moon has the least Edward in and Eclipse has Bella and Jacob kissing and Edward throwing a hissy fit and then totally monopolizing Bella's attention and once again controlling all of her freaking life for her.

I really dislike her. Stupid self-insert. But the story line could have been good if not for Mrs.Meyer letting herself down on numerous occasions. The fight scene in BD was truly pathetic.

51 Name: Daydreamer-Of-The-Unknown : 2009-11-15 09:03 ID:zvmTU+UW

I haven't read all the books yet, I got half way through the first one, then put it down and haven't really got back to reading it!

I saw the movie and when I saw it I thought it was a waste of my time...my expectations was far too high, and the film was a great disappointment!

Everyone said the books were meant to be better, but when nobody would stop going on about how good twilight is, even though I don't agree...it started to get VERY annoying!

I can't really stand twilight, I'd say worst vampire film I've ever seen, and I used to think the worst was 'The Lost Boys'
But even though I don't like it, I've agreed to see the New Moon movie with a friend since I promised her! Hope I don't fall asleep!

ARGGGGHH!!! How can people love Twilight? It is the stupidest book ever written!! Seriously, Stephenie Meyer must have a brain-dead following, because I can see absolutely no reason to like it.
As for the movie, talk about killing the book even further...if that's possible.
And yes, I have read all of the books, so nobody can say 'oh, if you read them you'll like them' - and the best part of all of them was...the end.

Twilight, I know people don't like it and everyone's entitled own opinions as I am.
I Like the books
I HATE the movie
the thing is that some when people read it they were expecting a action packed and all gore book it's not this is something I keep trying to say it's not it's a romance.
Other people read it afer hearing all the hype and get disappointed. Which just sucks, and it's really not as good as you would have thought considering all the hype over it.
Other thing for some people it's just not there thing fine, but because of all the hype lots people are saying what they want to say. Other people take offense to this and it just gets ridiculous but the main thing is
I HATE the hype
I HATE hearing about it every where I go
I'm just hoping to god that New Moon (movie) is just not as bad as Twilight (movie)

God, I thought people in Indonesia made a big deal out of it, then I got back to England and it was like 'whoa'.

My girlfriend started reading it a couple days ago, and told me that Stephanie Mayer uses the funds to sponsor anti-gay charities and camps. I don't know if that's true, but you know.. I trust my girlfriend when she says something like that.

And another friend watched a movie (don't remember what it was called) that was the exact same story, 1 through 4, but much older and better.

I've purchased a new book that's a parody of the stories, it's amazing. it's called New Moan and it's written by Stephfordy Mayo. It's part of the Twishite saga. The name just made me laugh. It's actually a genuinely funny read and I'd recommend it to people who are really sick of the hype Twilight is getting.

And yep, I definitely agree with you all, it's a ridiculously silly movie. It made the books look like a actual story! The improbability factor strikes again...

I've asked for the book "Nightlight - a parody of twilight" for Xmas. By the Harvard Lampoon. I loved their LOTR parody, 'Bored of the Rings' so why the hell not.

I want to rant again. I'm re-reading the books, just because I want something to read you know...and I hate Bella. More so than I did before. I've just noticed...JEEZ she just infuriates me.

I'm on eclipse at the minute, and I love that book, but seriously, it should just be without her. I loved learning about Jasper and everything, but honestly.

  1. Edwards unwillingness to let her go to Jacob, I know he relents, but she's still a miserable bitch, I don't know why Jacob loves her, he could easily do better.
  2. They way she CONSTANTLY moans about them wanting to fight. CLEARLY the werewolves can handle themselves, and the Cullens killed James off, so seriously. Where does she get off on constantly saying "no you'll all die". She needs to get a grip on reality, they will be FINE! Argh.

I just...God I hate her. She's pessimistic, and such a bad role model for teenage girls. She refuses to even look past Edward, insisting that she can't be without him, when as Jacob states correctly; she's never even tried. The guy left her, and she still cant see the light. All that does is encourage young girls to believe that there is only one person for them...man

This rant is getting out of hand. So I'll say one more thing. I don't mind the whole Jake imprinting on Renesmee. Honestly, its explained to us, its not falling in love, its more like soulmates, and all he wants is to protect her until she's old enough, and then they can fall in love and be together. I don't agree that its paedophilia, I think she avoids it by explaining it relatively well.

This is far from over, but I think I'll leave it here. Congrats if you read this far!...

I went to see the New Moon film last night and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I liked the first film too but I have to admit, the books aren't written well and I find Bella to be very Mary-Sue. She annoys me.

So I'm more of a fan of the films than the books but I've wanted to read Nightlight because it looks funny.

@Ray: Thing is, 'old enough' for freaky vampire-kiddies seems to be about seven years old. I don't care how fast they mature, that's still horribly misjudged in my book.

She'll physically be about 17/18 when she's that age, age is just a number, she'll eventually be 90 and jacob will probably start aging and be dead...so either way you put it its wrong, its a matter of opinion I guess.

Theres a lot of misjudged things in that book in my opinion.

I think Twilight just sucks. All Meyer's done is glamourised romance by adding vampires, which is stupid, it's like what they've done with True Blood. And Bella is so DEPRESSING! I mean God, I read the first part of New Moon, but that was as far as I read cause I had to put it down after the bday party. She doesn't want to celebrate her bday cause she becomes older than Edward, which is sad. And she ALWAYS has to be saved in the first book, it makes girls look weak, and in the first book it makes it seem as if werewolves are bad and don't like the vampires, which I believe is wrong. Bella is a sad bitch! (no offence to the actress) Edward is annoying and I like Jacob, which makes me want to hate the stupid lovey dovey couple more. And vampires glittering in the sun? What's THAT about?!

Phew...Been holding that in ever since the Twilight saga started, finally I can get it out :)

To be honest I dislike the idea of Vampires being in love with humans for several reasons. I've only seen it work in Angel, Buffy and maybe just Underworld, but the dude in that becomes a hybrid so yeah.

I agree with u. The best human and vamp love story is the one shared between Angel and Buffy... Coz you know when it has one immortal in the love story its bound to end tragically...

Also, Which person in their right mind wants to turn into a vampire and leave all their life behind? Bella annoyed me as she found her 'living' self so boring she begged to be turned into a vamp. Atleast, Buffy knew that it wasnt going to end happily... no matter how many people wished otherwise!

Ah, this thread brings such joy to my life. As an aspiring secondary school English teacher, the sight of so many younger teenagers obsessing over a book so dire made me contemplate switching to Primary School teaching - at least 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' is grammatically accurate.

But I see that not all hope is lost. Bless you.

I read the entire series so that I could try to understand what all the fuss was about. My two younger sisters - fourteen and thirteen respectively - went bananas over the books. I was at a loss to explain the reason why. All that I'd discovered from reading the series was that Stephanie didn't know how to correctly apply parenthesis or semicolons into a coherent sentence. She also couldn't decide whether she wanted her characters to be 'blond' or 'blonde'. It drive me barmy, especially with all the money she was earning from her "work".

Ah well. At least there's still a pinch of sanity left among the female teenage population. You hang in there, girls! The Twilight craze will be over in a few years, don't worry.

Twilight was okay until... everyone started making a big deal over it. It's not that great. They say it's a literary classic, but it's teen angst. Stephanie Meyer's writing is mediocre at best.

I was OBSESSED with Twilight way before it was made into a movie and before everybody knew who Bella and Edward were. Now its just totally over rated. I hate the actors. It's just ruined it for everybody who read the books. I now find Bella a total wimp and want to slap her. Edward just seems to enjoy his own suffering AND IN THE MOVIE THEY ALL SPEAK IN MONOTONE! 86 Name: Jess : 2009-12-23 12:14 ID:I4CyTz4z

Waay to many people are 'fans' of the twilight saga, purely because of the films. I can't stand the twilight fans, they're redicilous.

There is only ONE twilight fan that I have any respect for, for liking them, and that is my friend Lydia - she's the only real fan I've ever met, she's been into the books since 2006 - so nearly the whole time that I've known her. And guess what she said to me the other day? "Jess, I'm begining to lose intrest in Twilight - everyone goes on about it, they're killing it. It's boring me know." She'd never have said that unless it's true. So to make up for her loss of intrest in her favourite books, I bought her (sencond hand) copies of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. seriously, the reading age for PJO is NINE + and they have a hell of a better story line, for both the action AND the Romance. It takes FOUR books for Percy to actually get anywhere with Annabeth, where as it takes about 10 minutes for Bella and Edward to get anywhere.

Why do movies ruin EVERYTHING?!

89 Name: Annabel : 2009-12-26 07:23 ID:eGx7TIqi

I started reading the books before all the hype started, and I thought the books were okay, maybe even good. But then every girl around me started falling in love with Edward (so far I've only found 2 other girls who, like me, aren't in love with Edward or Jacob). Then when I re-read the books, Bella started getting really annoying and whiny. She goes absolutely crazy in New Moon when Edward leaves her. I wanted to shout at her to get the hell over it! She's also seen as weak; which is NOT what girls should be symbolised or compared to as.

Also, I hated Breaking Dawn. I didn't want Bella to be changed into a vampire - why would you want to give up your humanity to become dead and stuck in time? I thought the whole Renessme was a bit randomn too. The only thing I was looking forward to was the fight with the Volturi - and then nothing happenned. And then Lo and behold Bella ends up being the Hero and they all live happily ever after! It's unrealistic to be honest.

And what's the attraction of being in love with a vampire? I've heard a quote somewhere that "I like my men dead, cold and sparkling." To be honest, I really wouldn't! Edward also seems a bit of a pervert as he watches Bella sleep without her permission at the begginning, he was over-protective in New Moon, and his personality didn't shine through for me. I think the only reason Bella actually fell in love with Edward was based on him being "beautiful", (as he is so often described countlessely throughout the series) so now the rest of the female population is in love with him as well.

But one of my friends summed it up for me; Bella and Edward are such complete twats, that they're welcome for each other!

I have already made my views on 'Twilight' clear in many other threads, so I'll be brief. How people can find any suspense in 'Twilight' and its equally dull offspring is a mystery to me. It obeys every cliché known to man, and these clichés can be seen coming a mile off. The only one it subverts is the heroine-falling-for-hot-tempered-childhood-friend- instead, we have cardboard-cut-out-falling-for-schizophrenic-cardboard-cut-out. The whole thing is shallow, badly written, poorly characterised and predictable. To be fair to 'Breaking Dawn', at least it made a slight effort to be gothic (until a few chapters in, where it morphed into a saccharin-sweet version of the X-Men, with no fighting). The best thing about that series are the book covers. That said, they even failed to capitalise the titles.

Warning - RANT
I got dragged to see New Moon and fell asleep half way through. Someone brought a copy of twilight round and made me watch it - I fell into a trance 15 minutes in and couldn't telly ou anything about it. It's the sparkling, pretty little vampires that get to me the most - at least Jasper is close to what a vampire should be. They're dark, blood thirsty, violent creatures of the NIGHT. The only vampire that should be allowed to walk in the daylight is Dracula because he was the first. He's special.

Isabella Swann is a non-character, an empty shell for teenage girls to inhabit and live out their fantasies. Honestly, read the first book, she's a non-character, she has no looks, no personality. So then you can pretend to be her. After that you create the "perfect man," he's literally the perfect man, just a statue, he's cold, distant, emotionally retarded.

After that, notice how Bella falls massively in love, and then repeats for four books how she would die without him. That's a grand thing to tell young girls about their first loves: hang on to them, or YOU WILL DIE. After Edward leaves her, sensible bloke that he is, she then jerks Jacob about like the shallow, nasty bitch she is, before trying to kill herself with no apparent thought for her long-suffering father or friends. She is a terrible, terrible role model.

Oh, and fyi, if I saw a bloke step into the middle of a plaza in Italia and sparkle, my first thought would not be, "Vampire!" It would be, "Look at that dick, he's covered in glitter. What kind of man covers himself in glitter?" If he were to reveal himself he should tear the head off a tourist, pick him up, and drink the hot blood as it splashes out of the throat. Bit less subtle, bit more vampiric.

And Breaking Dawn, heavens to Betsy, girls! If your child is killing you, genuinly killing you, then have an abortion; it is not worth dying to deliver a baby. Especially not when you're only 4 WEEKS IN. The anti-abortion stance is disturbing. I mean for goodness sake, Alice, why didn't she just take a picture of her with bella and that day's newspaper and email it to edward, or send it to his phone? He has a phone, surely?

And you know why Bella wants to be made a vampire? She doesn't want to be ugly for Edward. Be more shallow. Please. Everything in this book is about the sex, always with the sex, unsurprising considering it was written by a Mormon. This is a fangirl's secret dirty fantasy, and idiotic fangirls are buying it. Dross written by a tool for tools.
RANT OVER

But Bella is my favourite character of all time. She's a teenager who feels like nobody understands her- how can you not feel an emotional tie? And Edward 'not' perfect? You have crushed the very foundations of my reality. Every day, I look out of my bedroom window, hoping for a dashing vampire to whisk me away and into a life of motherhood, riches and superhuman speed. And imagine smelling as gorgeous as a vampire, or looking as beautiful, or even finding true love!

My life was empty before Meyer wrote her saga. Now, every time someone is so cruel about the books, that emptiness threatens to consume me once more, just as Renesmee tried to consume Bella's internal organs.

Edward... You... Made... Me... Faint...

I used to be one of the biggest fans of Twilight there was so much so everyone i knew got sick of it.....then the films came out and everyone knew about it ,annoying kids would be going on about how much they love it and when asked if they had ever read the books they would look at me as if im stupid. It just really gets me annoyed that people just like it for the actors in the film and not the whole story- line.

Storyline? I think I missed that... How strange.

I read all the books when a friend lent them to me on a camping trip, before all the hype started. I'll admit, I liked them at first, they were pretty good. At least the first two were. Then they started getting boring and predictable. I liked Alice and Jasper, but that was about it. Even the first book, which was pretty good when I first read it, started to become boring. I went to see the film when it came out. Bored me completely. Not only that but I was forced to watch it again at a sleepover. My mind was telling me maybe it'll be better the second time through. About ten minutes in I got my scetchbook out and started doodling out of sheer boredom. And don't even get me started on the second film, I was dragged to see it with the family. It would seem Bella's acting got worse, and Edward became more sparkly. All edward is is a large fairy, a rubbish boyfriend that leaves bella on her own, and not particularly good looking either. And Bella is silly. 'nuf said.

The books were well-written, but too cliche. I'm not for all the fluffy romance, makes me depressed. And then the films made it worse, especially with all the fangirls screaming about it. If I mention one thing about twilight that displeases them, I get ignored for the rest of the night, or mauled by an obsessive fangirl mob. I'm gonna go with the former. The only problem is most of my friends are twilight fangirls, so I have to be really careful about what I say around them.

Last thing to say. Stick with the traditional vampire. At least then Edwards dies if he steps out into daylight.

A friend lent me the first book... never got farther than... 15 pages. And I watched the first movie for the lulz with a friend and I admit I cracked up the whole time - well, I have a twisted sense of humour. But I didn't see anything in the novel that would make me like it. I have huge problems with cliche and Bella just... irks me. I just can't bear with her...

And, thanks whoever I should thank for it, my friends are not Twilight fangirls. I have two flatmates who are into it but they are kinda mature about it.
One of my friend - who actuallylikes Twilight - called Edward a disco ball. And from the start I was like: Vampires + sparkles? Not gonna watch it!

Oh, and I think the worst thing about it is kids being like: Vampires, I love vampires! And when you ask them about OTHER vampires like say, old man Dracula... Nada.

But really, I can't wait for all the fuss to finally end...

As for Twilight, I wouldn't wanna read that. After what I've heard from you.......It doesn't sound too nice. And when you say: I don't wanna read it, most of the time, you end up saying: I wish I never read it at all, once you did.

DragonFriend: The Winchester would have a 'WTF?-face'... and might die laughing... And when Ed would try to get really serious... he'd go 'poof'.

Though I don't think vampires normally go 'poof', aside from Buffy's.

Fair enough, it just seems unfair to call someone a twitard when you haven't read the book.

Its just about having an informed opinion more than anything.

I read them all...The first two were ok. Then the end of the second, it all just went...horribly wrong. And I can't believe she even wrote the forth. It was awful stuff.

But because I read them I know WHY I didn't like them and I can give people specific reasons and examples. I'm friends with Twi fans and they are not psychotic or stupid. They just have diffrent tastes and can ignore things (like blatant sexism and abusive bf's) in books where I cannot. Because I gave the books a go and we can at least debate over them equally and accept our different views.

The movie (1st one) is kinda okay when you don't know the book and see it on the cracky side.
But they did even crappier stuff for the Queen of Damned by Anne Rice.

It makes me sad that girls think that Edward is romantic. I read the books, and was fine with the first one. Then as they progressed I became increasingly concerned and disturbed. The last one was...beyond words...

After that I began to realise what these books were advocating. This girl puts it really well. I think her arguments (on the whole) are strong. The link I'm putting up is halfway through an argument she puts forth. But it was a part in the book that I thought was horrible, but mosat Twihards think its ok.

Dracula, maybe, but Lestat is the smex - and so are Brite's vampire... Zillah... hum.
If someone hurt me because they love me or something like that, I think I'd just bite their head off. Bella really has a deathwish.

Thanks for the link, Moonphase. I really like the way she puts it - I'll check the other vids.

Let's face it, reflection and analysis is something most Twittard obviously lack.

But really, I don't see why they'd be scared of Dracula... and if they want a twisted, dark and so on, relationship, make them read Lost Souls, they'd think Zillah is the cutest vampire ever!

157 Name: moonphase9 : 2010-02-18 11:10 ID:tTyCDQjN

On the whole, I am not a vampire fan. I find they tend to be whiney (at least the modern ones.) Dracula and Nosferatu (the Grandaddies of vamps) are scary!! Lestat is ok...but my fave is Armand (he's so strange.) But the best so far is Alucard- scary and sexy! ;)

Tristana- yeah I really like her as well. She doesn't just randomly hate on Twi-hards (which is as annoying as the Twihards themselves) but simply puts up very good/thought out arguments. You can tell she begins to hate the books more and more as time goes on!

158 Name: Tristana : 2010-02-18 12:14 ID:zwzRiubf

Yeah, Armand... love him! I also really like Marius.^^ But Armand is awwww. Though Brite's vampires are all but whiney - perhaps except Nothing and Christian sometimes but it's justified.

But right... Alucard FTW! And totally agree for the 'scary and sexy' - not to mention his voice actor on the OVAs. nosebleed

159 Name: moonphase9 : 2010-02-20 07:01 ID:tTyCDQjN

yeaah, I'd be too scared to try anything with Alucard. I would watch from afar and swoon like a silly schoolgirl :3
Joke is...Alucard is Dracula, so we come full circle.

I prefer werewolves myself. I think they are more tragic. I wanna see that new werewolf film...

160 Name: Tristana : 2010-02-20 20:42 ID:AA6xGkxt

They actually are more tragic, right. Which movie? (I live in a faraway laaaaaaaaand^^)

Still, vampires strike some chords with me - such as inner fears. So I keep them - but not the disco ball-ish ones - vampires are serious! cough Sorta... points at Alucard
Marius actually reminds me of myself: asking why and how, reading and so on. Like an historian.
True with Alucard... though I don't remember when but I could hug him!

I enjoyed Twlight and had read it before it became so popular after the film was relised and now I am just board with it and had sort of lost inspirastion for the twilight fic I had been writing. The appeal to Twilight? To anyone used to vampires or having gone through the whole HPmania: none. (Well, nothing to turn one into a squeeing fangirl).

I might be mean but: it's not difficult to read and you get sparkly vamps instead of the usual dark, almost gloomy - and openly dangerous ones.

Random comment of the day regarding Twilight: Why did I just compared Carlisle to Marius? scared

And I tend to believe that vampires myth are kinda overrated so unless someone brings some -sensible- new elements, well... not so much for anyone having read the other.

Sensible elements do not include manga-like sparkles.

Elkkun > If it helps, I don't know what I was on either so...

176 Name: moonphase : 2010-03-06 14:52 ID:YLosS3WT

>>175 "And I tend to believe that vampires myth are kinda overrated so unless someone brings some -sensible- new elements, well... not so much for anyone having read the other."

True dat. Some fans argue that its Meyers book, so she can write what she likes, as vamps aren't real. That argument is ridiculous. That means I can write a story about mermaids- where all the mermaids have human bodies (including legs) but have wings and live in the sahara desert. Calling them vampires doesn't make them vampires. Then in the fourth book (which even some fans could not handle because it was so silly) she changed her mind and made Edward an Incubus instead.
Vampires have changed over the years. In legend they were dirty, ugly monsters. In the victorian period thanks to Dracula they became sexual deviants. Then in the eighties they were written in a sympathetic, anti-hero light. It was affeted byu what was happening in society at the time: in the ancient times they had lots of mythical monsters for various reasons- mostly they were used as warnings about safety or were exaggerated rumour. In the victorian era everyone got a bit stressed out about sex, sexuality and they became obsessed with the notion of foreigners, mixed raced children and medicalising everything. Then in the eighties the AIDS virus broke out, a disease transmitted by blood and what was seen as a curse from God (according to some crazed religious nuts.) However, Meyer decided to make them glitter because it was part of a fantasy. Her decisions were, as always, superficial at best and plain dumb at worst.

177 Name: Tristana : 2010-03-06 15:17 ID:AA6xGkxt

She did WHAT? Just how stupid is that? (When I think that readers sometimes yell at US because we mess with our own fics and plots...) She didn't write it all before publishing - which is okay. But changing like that?...

It's a bit like Tolkien saying: nah, I don't want Aragorn to die and mess up the plot so Aragorn would be half-elven like Arwen, disregarding the rest.

And I totally agree with you - never thought about mermaid like that though. But I think that in Ancient Greece they were flying creatures - not so sure about it.

Even if they changed, there are some limits. It's like... werewolves who actually don't have any relation to moonlight, or anything beyond being overgrown pups.

And well... the Black Death was a curse from God (before becoming a plot from the Jews to destroy the European population, when people started to think that it was too much to be God's revenge or something).

178 Name: Elkkun : 2010-03-07 07:04 ID:WCzBxH5g

I've just noticed...Mermaid has 'mer' in it and in french that's 'sea' so it's like a sea maid really... XD. Eh whatever. I was just pointing out that if it has 'sea' in Mermaid how could they have WINGS and live in the Sahara desert? (it's kinda funny 'cause the people in my school used to spell my name like that hah.)

plus, if Vampires sparkle, and werewolfs glow in the dark...What would GHOSTS do!? D:

Hum, sorry, my mind and its random ideas.

Ghosts would be... material.
Headless Nick slams into the wall What the...?!
Bloody Baron: We are material now. And Muggles can see us.
Headless Nick: In short, we are humans again?
Bloody Baron: Apparently. But there's worse: Peeves is actually NICE!

Though Shapeshifters do exist. But how can you publish something before changing everything at some point? Don't the fans see it?

181 Name: moonphase : 2010-03-07 11:28 ID:YLosS3WT

They did, some fans were turned off by the last book. Many, however, use the old "its her story she can do what she wants!" OR "Its only a book, what does it matter?!" >:(
It's a very lazily written book, which, after the anti-feminism, is the thing that angers me. There are so many brilliant authors out there who research their books, work really hard, struggle with a lack of funds, maybe working two or three part time jobs all while writing this novel, spend years writing, when Meyer bangs out a peice of crap in 6 months, and yet she and her fans can't stand any criticism.

>>180 material eh? Sounds painful for the nearly-headless Nick ^^' haha yeah I'd love for her to warp Mermaids, Harry Potter did a fine job of that (:. Then again, in a possibly AU and it being set in a magical place and in a challenge I suppose it makes sense for the Merpeople to be vicious.

>>181 If it's only a book then why do you get so worked up over it? That is my question to the people who say that ¬_¬.

NO, she can't have the fairies! NOT THE FAIRIES!

Eoin Colfer already got his hands on them...but unlike that (stream of bad words) Meyer he actually made them badass and likeable.

Besides, she made the vampires sparkle, she'd probably make the fairies bloodthirsty cannibals that eat children's teeth or something like that ¬_¬

But I might - would be utterly pointless... Like... Carlisle explaining the Meyermaids and the Meyergeist to a dumbfounded Edward just before another vampire, like Dracula, comes in and goes away, wailing because Meyerpyres are sooooooooooooo scaryyyyyyyyyyyy!

GRRR! Did anyone notice in the first movie the whole thing is tinged green/blue? It was like the Matrix or something!
The whole thing peas me off so much. Sorry I have kind of ranted there, I dont want to annoy anyone its just that my view of the Twilight Saga.

Amen to that. I loved them soo much it wasn't even funny, it went to extremes. Yeah it was great, the first few times, then you notice the grammar -oh, it's horrible- and then spellings and just...eww. And yet it was okay, 'cuz the FFs made it better, but then they started to get drooll, repetitive, annoying, -a million of the over used asjectives SM used- and now..it's gone..just like the..the movies sucked..serisouly it was like Twilight: um...okay KStew cannot act, at all, and then it just went downhill from there. New moon was the so bad, because the Letters to Alice got on my nerves, all I coudl hear was KStew going 'Dear Alice, i know you'll never read this but' or something along those lines...bah!
Anyway, I have a whole lot of opinions on the saga, but i'd take a lifetime to write them all down.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but really, it's just not that great.
I mean i got a copy of Wuthering Heights..guess what? It said -no joke- 'Bella and Edward's favourite book', on the front cover -it was such a pretty cover too, and then they ruined it. Emily Bronte would be turning in her grave. SHE was a literary genious.
Excuse my bad SPG Etc..

But it just goes to show, that people are only driven by money, not by the love of the books themselves. I wanna kill whoever suggested re-doing the cover like that.

It didn't take me long to get bored of Twilight, I was told about it pre-fame and the gist of it I was all "well that sounds alright, but from what I've heard from you guys? This Jacob sounds more likeable than that vampire you're flailing all over." (turns out that although I was right, he wasn't more likeable by much)

I eventually gave it a shot, read chapter one, got INCREDIBLY bored of the narrative, and the characters? just no. I stopped there and haven't even tried again. However I do appreciate Alex Day (AKA Nerimon)'s reading of Twilight on Youtube, I imagine his reactions are pretty much the same as mine would have been.

As for Wuthering Heights, never read it, probably never will. The bright side of THAT is now kids actually want to read that, so in school when their teachers say "we're going to read Wuthering Heights and do our essays on that" they're going to be excited.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Twilight ever becomes part of the curriculum I'm claiming reading it as against my imaginary children's imaginary religion.

It's only a matter of time until you see. "Romeo and Juliet. Edward and Bella favorite film." or worse "Inspired by the twilight saga."

And for now, no one said anything about like... Anne Rice or Poppy Z Brite so... (they were scared... of course, putting Lestat or Zillah against Eddy would mean... minced meat for bolognaise! Sparkly bolognaise... and then, we sell it make loaaaaaaaaads of money!)

One should invastigate the matter of publication... (though I kinda wondered the same thing about Eragon - don't kick me! - though it was not as bad as Twilight, I guess...)

233 Name: RayRay : 2010-03-25 05:51 ID:dpKa2Qs3

I agree that she has a damn good marketing team, but what I don't understand is how she even got published in the first place, I know so many people who are amazing writers, struggling to get published, and she comes a long and writes the most cliché piece of sparkly shit ever, and now she's rich off her ass, and won't have to do anything ever again.

Meh.

234 Name: swiftswallow : 2010-03-25 07:11 ID:+ehZAOL1

Well she had an agent, so I don't know, maybe the moral is if you have enough money you can do anything. Depessing really but she has given me hope that I too can become a writer with a poor plot, one dimentional characters and absolutly no understanding of grammer or spelling. Shes an inspiration for people like me who can't do talent.

235 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-25 10:30 ID:6cU5wNxl

Publishing isn't always about talent, remember, but marketability. It's not that Meyer paid a lot of money to get her work seen, it's that the agent, and, later, someone at a publishing house realised that her drivel was very marketable, and would MAKE money.

236 Name: Elkkun : 2010-03-25 11:05 ID:WCzBxH5g

237 Name: swiftswallow : 2010-03-25 11:40 ID:+ehZAOL1

>>235 I just meant by having enough money to hire an agent really, but yeah your right. I suppose the fact it follows every cliche going means that you'll have already seen books like it selling so you know it's a safe bet. It's an over-used plot line but it sells. It's just like all those chic flick books where women meets perfect man but must resist for no reason and then runs into trouble. They sell loads but have no content in them.
Are you more likely to get published if you write like that than coming up with your new ideas?

238 Name: Anonymous : 2010-03-25 11:47 ID:6cU5wNxl

Agents get a percentage of the money a published work makes. The author does not pay their agent a fee upfront, in the same way that an author does not pay a publisher. Agents choose which work to take on depending on its marketing potential (and, occasionally, quality), as they have to then convince a publisher to print it.

Speaking of those kind of writers... Did anyone read the Mortal Instruments Serie by Cassandra Clare?

(Well, kinda liked the thing, but only because that warlock totally cracked me... sorta).

But honestly, it's like... cliché piled on clichés - and more and more. Like, evil guy called Valentine (though he looks like a Sephiroth with short hair!), with a Vader/Skywalker kinda thing with the two main characters (like: I'm the uber evil one but I am your father, love me and do as I say). Not to mention the traditional vampires, werewolves and so on. Like... Mr. Werewolf is called Luke but if I recall correctly, was 'Lucian' beforehand. Underworld anyone?
