(All paraphrased)
In my A/N:
"I probably won't be updating this at any point in the near future; I think it's a weak piece of writing and I've only put this chapter up because I know some people like it better than I do (said chapter's been knocking around on my hard drive for months). I might sort it out at some point, but please don't hold your breath. You know what I'm like with updates. Sorry for any disappointment."
Review:
"Ooh, finally, an update! Yay! Looking forward to more! Update soon! Thanks!"
As nice as it is to receive a positive review, I do wonder how much of my tale was actually read...
Anyway. This is a thread for those reviews that made you raise an eyebrow (excepting flames; there's already a thread for those). The odder, the better.
Oh I got one today, on my blog though and not in FF.net
MY blog is called "H&M Yuri FanFiction" which from the title you get the point that the fiction is will err YURI :s
so that person, most probably a Japanese (name: Tomo, and their IP was indeed from Japan) left this comment on my fanfic: "oops! What a dyke. Your are freaking wierd."
In the description of the FanFic along with other stuff I had put this too:
>Pairing: Haruka & Michiru
>Gender: Yuri/Femeslash, Romance
pfff some people
Okay so I was reading my FF.net reviews and I got one that said
'nyaaaaaaa! please continuuuuueeeessss! O'
what was weird was it was on chapter 7, out of 22.
this one kinda irritated me
'What does the dress look like?'
first I did describe the dress, second it was a long chapter with a major plot twist, and (she's?) worried about the dress.
other ones that caught my eye
'Heh....Interesting?' (I don't know you tell me.)
'Why bump up Karin's age by two years? Was it because you were trying to make it less creepy when she starts chasing after Toshiro?
Trust me, a 17 year old falling in love with a 120+ year old is no less creepy than if she were 15.
But considering the fact that shinigami are nearly ageless, it really doesn't matter. All the normal rules no longer apply.
Which again begs the question, why mess with Karin's age?' (In this authors note I mentioned I needed some time to pass so that you could believe that she had trained, nothing to do with Toshiro.)
this one made me really like this person and I e-mailed them back thank you after getting ten 'update soon' reviews
'update soon! (though you're probably sick of the site of a storyline right now after writing all three in quick succession XD)'
This was on my story called Escaping:
"ASDJKLKSJDIENDXCVD
WRITE MOAR PLEASE " -I was kinda glad this was an anonymous review because I didn't know what to say to it ^^;
"UPDATE!:D" - Um. Okaaay..
"your fic is interesting put miku in the next chapter XDDD it will be a great idea XDDD" - Even though Len(the main character) is alone in a forest running away, and I stated that it was a LenxRin fic in the summary. -.-
and on chapter 10 of the same fanfic, I had two people tell me they were going to die if I didn't update. o.O Please don't die, it's not that good! Though I guess I should take that as a compliment. Hmmmm.
On a different story I got one that was just ":" lol.
So yeah. There's mine. Those ones that just say to update annoy me -.- I've had quite a few of them.
For one story I am writing, I am using the literary device "story within a story". I am basically writing bad fanfiction for laughs, and then writing an omake at the end with the fictional writer responding to some reviews to said story. I'll say this right out, nobody, absolutly nobody... has flamed me. Well, I got this review a few minutes ago.
...
I'm sorry that this story is turning out this way. I think that you might not have had the strongest start with the story, but you could've gone on and made up for it later and still had a great story. However, you have now turned this story into a contest between you and people who don't like your story. If they are bothering you then block them, there is no need for you to sink to their level and insult them back. To be honest this chapter is a joke. You had a story line going, and I'll admit I hated it, I felt that you were insulting characters I like and didn't like that at all, however it is your views and I'll live with that, and just stop reading if it gets to be too much.
You should write stories because you enjoy them, and in the beginning that is evident, and despite some factual errors I still would have only encouraged you. However, this story is now lacking that enthusiasim, and it has become a farce. Next time please stick to a planned storyline, or just do random one shots. PLease don't throw this together to spite others. It is a misrepresentation of yourself, and this is not something you want to use to showcase your creativity and writing skills. You owe it to yourself and your readers to do better. I hope you take this as a criticism and not a fame, but I refuse to turn this into a pissing contest, so to speak and start swapping insults. I hope that if I choose to read another one of your stories that it will be better than this.
I wish you luck in improving and I hope that you can find joy in writing.
...
I really figured that with the "story within a story" method, people would GET when a fictional character complained about their fictional reviews!

Here is a new ones for that fic, despite the fact I thought I made it clear I was going to be obeying site rules.
"I love this fics, it's uhmm... accurate. HOWEVER, you still need to write a My Immortal kinda one-shot!"
Last time I checked, My Immortal broke way too many rules for my liking.
>>164 ...that person is retarded, or a ten-year-old.
I received on the other day they said they looked at my profile and saw we have the same birthday..... I was like ooookkkkkkk that has nothing to do with the story you just reviewed on....
I got the following review last year for a CSI: Miami fic on fanfic.net:
"Where is the rest of the team in this? I dislike Horatio and your promo promised team involvement. I don't see that and I'm discontinuing my story alert. It's been nothing but Horatio. I was hoping for a good case story."
Made me wonder if she'd actually read the summary or the fic at all! Ah well, can't win 'em all!
Jude
>>166 - I don't post my birthday, so I don't have to worry about this.
>>167 - I don't like Horatio, but I feel that is dumb. Used to like him, but he's getting too much lime light and has been sterotyped into a certain kind of role. Always rescue a blond chick or a woman of hispanic decent, or some kid. Always going against the law as if he is some god or something. His character used to not be that way, or at least not that bad.
>>168 i only had the month and day.... it was really just out there.
I got a review saying:
"Haha, good work. It's a good concept, though you should have Kyle in it. I think he's hot. Oh and I don't like the name Megan."
For one thing, the story does have Kyle in it, and for another thing, do I really care that he/she doesn't like the name Megan.
>>170 Yeah - does make you wonder if they actually read it, doesn't it?
Another good one I got was something like:
"With prices going up all the time, I'm not going to be able to afford the internet any more."
OK... and the story?!!
And another:
"Where have so-and-so's stories gone on fanfic.net, I can't find them anywhere."
And what about MY story?!!
And finally:
"Fanfic.net keeps doing [whatever] - you should contact them and tell them to stop it / fix it / change it."
No, I shouldn't, cos it's not my problem!
Jude :o)
>>171 - Oh my!
>>171 Hm, that's interesting.
I got one on a oneshot I wrote, and it's the only review I have received for it. I was trying something new, and I have no clue if they liked it or not:
"... O_O
_"
That's it.
This one made me laugh ^^ :
"i got one rin miss hearing len and kisses him or a vocaloid walking passed the twins room hearing 'noises' only to be wrong in the end you pick -wispers- pick the seconed one"
What they suggested has been done a TON already, but I actually got what I think would be a funny idea from it, so thank you random reviewer! And I'm pretty sure the idea is unique, though I've yet to write it. Hm.
Yeah, those ones just kinda confused me, especially the first one -.-
~Chika
>>173 that's almost like a OHSHC fic I read, where Kaoru and Hikaru were playing Jenga and talking about Haruhi xD but it sounded really dirty, Tamaki walks in like "HOW DARE YOU DO SUCH HORRIBLE THINGS TO MY DEAR SWEET LITTLE GIRL!"
xD
I once ended a collection of drabbles with "yay for them."
I was all WTF when so many people said they thought it was a great ending to the series.
Just got one on my Boondock Saints fic that made me giggle. For those who haven't seen the movie, there is swearing in abundance in that movie (I believe it uses the F bomb and all it's forms over 250 times); therefore, obviously, my story contains lots of swearing as it would be very OOC for the male characters - as well as my OC's - not to swear. The review I got on this story went something like:
"You know, you don't need to swear so much. It's like you're yelling at your readers. People don't talk that way in real life. Fix it."
A) Has she even seen the movie? As I said, it would be incredibly OOC for the characters not to swear.
B) Fix it? Since when do I take orders regarding my story from anonymous people? Or anyone for that matter?
A reviewer told me very clearly that they didn't read my fic, but that I was doing a good job. They then said I should contact them if I needed help with my writing. They were an anonymous reviewer.
...? I mean, where do I go with that?
@170 I've had people start PMing me for random things, too. One of them had never commented on or (I think) read one of my stories, but insisted on PM-ing me random FFNet questions. I asked them to stop (not very nicely- they were getting annoying) and they did. Try that, maybe?
I absolutley hate it when they go. UD! or CONTINUE IT!
Because they never say ANYTHING about my story its not even a review its a demand

>>179 the same thing happens to me with my stories. When they write that i purposely take my time in updating.
I think that my favourite ??? moment for a review was for Fear.
The story came to an end. A very definite end. Everybody died.
Also, it clearly said "The End".
Also, the fic was marked complete.
Actually, there were two or three other hints as well that it was over. Nobody should have been able to miss the fact that it was over.
But what did I get? Five different ways of saying, "Update please!"
>>176
heh, i was reading over these and yours made me chuckle :P
Just thought i'd let ya know that XD
I have gotten far too many reviews simply saying "UPDATE!" or "Omg you updated! Write more!" I've learned to treasure the reviews that are longer than three lines, and actually say something.
The most interesting (coughnotsomuchcough) review I've had was simply the word "More." written about fifty times, a paragraph break between each. Took lots of scrolling, only to discover there was nothing at the end except one last "More."
Not that I don't appreciate the enthusiasm... But that's space that could have been used to at least say WHY they wanted more.
I had an anonymous reviewer review only the first chapter of a fic about TEN TIMES! Just about every time this person asked, "So what happens next?", or something about what a character does next. Even more annoying than the regular "Update soon!" reviews. I appreciate people taking the time to write reviews to let you know they've read and liked your story, but reviews are meant for the author to improve. Reviewers should remember that the purpose of reviews is to provide authors with positive encouragement (Lord knows I need that a lot) and pointers on what they are doing wrong and how to fix it. If you want to know what happens next, wait for the update, please.
I've had a few people tell me to update fics that I clearly stated were one-shots. These same people added the story to their alerts list. :|
It pisses me off; if you're not going to read enough of it to tell that it's a one-shot, don't read it at all, you know?
>>186 - I haven't had that, but my brother has.
I wrote a Backyardigan fanfic about one episode and a reviewer asked if I could mahe a fanfic for every other episode. And there's about 60 episodes! Another person asked if one of my characters was a boy or a girl (I guess because of her short hair)... and I mentioned that she was a boy several time before I ever told the readers her name! "Did that person even read the chapter?!" I ashed myself. I also hate it when people don't tell me what they liked about my story, and instead ask if I can make a crossover-fanfic (which I've shown no public interest in writing) crossing-over fandoms that would mahe no sense to cross (ie. The Chikhmunks with The Backyardigans).
I've had a few strange reviews. This one was for a very obvious oneshot...
"wow...
that is amazing!
it reminds me of me own story 'sarasponda'
you got his feelings just right!
is it gonna stay a one shot?
i want you to write more!
please?"
I've had a lot of other weird ones, but I deleted a lot of my stories off of FF.net, so they aren't there anymore. But I've noticed a lot of people begging me to continue something that's obviously finished.
>>189 - I have something I call Episodica, where I write poetry about individual episodes. However, unless you are doing a what if senario with each episode, you really can't write a fanfic for every episode.

Probably more of a spam or trolling but it did raise my eyebrows in question.
Person writes: tl;dr
Me: story is a theme challenge with limited word count each chapter ...
LOL I only just received this today too. Like really??? Unless the person becomes a problem, I think I just had my laugh today. :P
I'm gonna have to go with the generic "Great story!" or "lol, sweet fic!" or "I loved it!"
It actually really got to me when someone once posted a comment on one of my stories then later said "Okay, now that I've actually read it..." and right then and there, I started questioning the sincerity of my readers, because this person pretty much admitted that she never read the story the first time she commented on it even though her comment clearly spelled "this is my opinion because I've totally read it".
On a clearly stated One Shot story I got this review:
"This looks like it's going to turn into an awesome story! Please write more! Your prologue is intriguing. I can't wait to see the rest!"
I replied and reminded the reviewer that it was a one shot and he/she said:
"Well, I'm really looking forward to the rest anyway!"
I was a bit confused...
Mhmm... I occasionally get reviews saying 'Please updaaate'. Somehow they make me wonder if they're actually reading the story. Funniest thing is, when I actually update, they do not give a fuck.
I once got a review on a Matilda fanfic as well saying I had copied it from another whereas that was not true. I finally deleted it from anger because everyone was nagging about the grammar even though it got beta read.
Then there's this Jane Eyre fanfiction I always get critique on. It was beta read by someone of Perfect Imagination. I mean, people need to take up a test for approval to be able to beta there. Professionals fail that test. Every review I get is negative, going from, 'I stopped reading when I came across 'okay'. THEY DID NOT USE THAT WORD THEN!' to 'THEY HAD NO MODERN PLUMBING! IS THIS A MODERN TAKE OR WHAT??' I mean, alright... What if I personally assume that they did use the word 'okay' to each other in their own bedroom? I mean, I highly doubt that even the bourgeois people back in the days spoke such 'high English' even then.
>>196 what else are they going to say? "Oh very well then" because that just sounds slightly impolite ._., kind of like you're fed up of hearing it xD but if you say "Alright then, insert person]" that also sounds the same.
"Okay" seems legible. ._.; FFF I DON'T GET ITTTT -sulk-
. I ILOVE YOU. MORE MOR MORE
I wasnt quite sure what to do with that but ignore it...
I have to say
"Uwah -hugs teddy bear-"
This is just some of the review. Most of it was quite flattering, but this just irked me.
"Your story's prime problem is that it feels incomplete. I'll try to explain.
The characters are basically done well, though Holly seems devious. Did Artemis do something recently to provoke her?
The basic plot is good, except it feels like a scene in a story, not a story."
This was a humourous one-shot, which means there wouldn't be much of a plot. And I didn't think there was any glaring OOCness from the devious character, considering their history together as friends (and frenemies, might I add).
Another one I got was this.
"It's not that bad. I don't count you as a loser (I don't kno u)... although you calling people u don't kno losers is putting u that much closer."
I will admit that my AN was poorly written (I pretty much said, jokingly, that anyone waiting for the next book is a loser. Stupid, I know, but I put myself in the category) but I didn't think anyone would take it personally.
>>196, it wouldn't be considered 'high English' the bourgeois were educated to speak that way. Terms like 'ok' would not have existed in Jane Eyre's time, it came later and I think was American origin. It seems like people aren't criticising your spelling or grammar, but your research, something which a beta would not check or correct unless you asked them to.
on an old story that i deleted i got:
"Pie is amazing, and if you don't agree then i don't like your story, because the dragons in the kitched are telling me not to. Have a nice day, buddy."
that one kind of stuck with me, but if forgot to post it
>>202, I hate it when people try so hard to be random. They're the sort of folks that describe themselves as 'wacky'.
This one was pretty weird. And a little scary at that.
"this is sooooooooo awsome ive just read it today damn i hope u plan on updating and finishing this story or ima hate u for not updating and if i have to hire a team of spy to make sure u plan on finishing this story.
P.S. I buy u a dog for the update :)"
