They would not exist without reason.
This is the reason:

Flames rule.
it felt like my eyes bled out of my head... at first I thought 'surely this is a troll!' then I read the praise O_e
Well, that's what you get for reading Twilight fanfiction.
~Weeps~
I went onto her profile - it gets so much worse.
"Hello my name is trinity im 21 a single stay at home mom of two. well my dream came true im on my way to publishing a book. I just started collage im an english major but with all the homework i have it will be hard for me to keep up on my storys so thank you for your patients in advance. If anyone wants to co-author my storys email me on here i could use the help. Thanks again."
I have no words.
Proface. PROFACE! 'E' and 'O' are at opposite ends of the keyboard! How!?
>>3 seriously? Oh man...see now that just pisses me off...
There is no justice in the world.
I don't even want to try and point out the mistakes, there is too many even in that single paragraph - and don't get me started on the "story."
In a way, I think her readers have been very cruel. By dismissing all her faults and pouring on undeserved praise, they have elevated her self-esteem beyond her capabilities. Someone should have given her some good, solid constructive criticism early on (she may have become better for it) instead of being so hungry for pathetic, cringe-worthy porn that they not only allowed but encouraged this kind of...literature...
You've got a point, the first three review pages are all praise, and only the last few reviews are actually stern concrit, and it might really stamp on her confidence. Oops.
(ps- the reviews are just as bad.)
It just makes me cringe personally when I see people like that saying that they're publishing a book. It just appears to be SMeyer all over again. There are so many wonderful writers out there, who actually take the time to correct their work, and write a damn good story, and most of them never get anywhere.
For her sake, I hope she's trolling. I didn't read past the first chapter, I don't want to, I know it's going to be bad. I understand dyslexia is a fairly common thing, but it's no excuse to spell badly, at all. I know so many people who are lazy spellers and they blame it on dyslexia when really they just can't be fucked, and want praise for the shit that they churn out.
>>11, I agree with the dyslexia issue. Four of my uni friends have dyslexia. They do NOT write like that.
I could barely get past the 'proface', tried reading part of the first chapter...all the mistakes, I felt like crying.
I know I make a few errors when writing but that was an example of how NOT to write.
How can she be publishing a book?
Self publishing, perhaps? It's the rage, nowadays...
Then it doesn't really count.
You know what the lack of capitalisation in the title- 'On top of alice'- should have been a clue to the shoddy story, not to mention that it's rather unoriginal.
...man...this girl is also a beta reader...I skimmed through the reviews for her other stories, she gets nothing but positive feedback ("i choose C let esme whoop her ass that would be SPAZ!TASTIC! AND SPAZ!TASTICLY FUNNY").
God, it's not even funny. So many good stories get hardly any reviews...
...I can feel my IQ lowering into the negatives at every word she wrote...poor brain. I don't like the idea of flaiming her, that's just cruel. Someone should really offer to Beta her work...
>>17 I get what you mean, but personally i think it's a bit too late for that, the beta reading, I mean. Because so many people have given her such positive feedback, and it's been said, that her confidence in her writing has been lifted. I doubt she thinks she even needs a beta at this point, which is a shame because she obviously needs a great deal of help.
I might just flame her. I don't understand how people can actually say that that story was good, WHY DO PEOPLE PUT GOOD REVIEWS ON REALLY CRAPPY FAN FICTION? Eugh, it really annoys me!
>>19, I've never flamed anyone. I hardly read anything but my favourite authors on fanfic.net, and usually, when looking through summaries, if the person can't spell that right, I don't bother reading it.
However, I did read this (well, the..."proface"...) and, well, I can see why people get so mad they end up flaming. It's the fact that she has so many positive reviews! Seriously...
>>20, I know how you feel. How do they even follow it?
...still, I do kinda feel sorry for her. All this time she's had great feedback, and now all of a sudden, she gets all this grief. It must be a shock...
>>22, I'm pretty interested how she takes this now. Maybe next chapter will be entitled "Im not ritin nemoar" with a rant about the sudden onslaught of bad reviews, or does she actually take any of this for the better? Would there be a beta'd chapter, or a small note asking if any of her recent reviewers would help her?
Curious...
whoah, I do feel sorry for her but, I can't believe she's an english major.
I managed to read all the story because I was curios.
But, there is soo many mistakes.
I was amazed at the reviews aswell,
one of them said, "BEST STORY ON FANFICTION"
as soon as i read it i though, lies!!
btw, with self publishing, wont that half to be at least mostly correct? all books have to have proper grammar dont they?
Vanity press isn't quite the same as self-publishing, though- online companies that offer printing services for self-publishing charge only for one proof copy, and then take royalties from online sales. The author has to do their own marketing, purchase their own ISBNs etc. By contrast, vanity publishers charge an author thousands of pounds to store ten copies of his/her book in a mouldy basement. But you're right in that neither have any sort of quality-control.
so, basically, she could publish that as a book, and no one would care,
and, if she does a really great summary on the back and all that,
people can buy it??
whoah, there is something quite wrong with that <.<

Nobody would buy it because no bookshops would buy it. Instead, it would languish in a corner of the internet, impossible to stumble across.
@ Moonphase
They probably can't write either and can therefore read it.
it's not just 'on top of Alice', all her stories are really awful...all you have to do is read the summaries or the first few sentences. Worst of all, she's writing about rape and self harming, what's the chances that these fics are insultingly bad about serious issues? And she gets praise on all of them...
>> let it go...let it go...
>>34 I'm hungover enough now that I'm going to check this out... nothing can damage me more than the alcohol did lastnight, so I think I'm safe.
I think... :\
I read her story about Jacob raping Bella... I had to stop reading and I sent her the meanest review ever. I attempted to be constructive about it, and I told her it was going to be harsh. But yeah.
Seriously, it made me angry.
Hmmm... I see my attempts to italicise things has failed.
she could be jobless, but a student (or part time student) in college. However, I too smell a lie...
If you call that the "meanest review ever", you're obviously a very nice person. I've seen much, much worse than that ;)
It was harsh, yes, but deserved and necessary. (and at least you tried to be constructive)
I can see why you felt angry - I could scarcely bring myself to click on the links...
It's the meanest I've ever been without outright flaming someone :P
Know what really makes me sad about that? She's twenty-one.
She's gone through some sort of private/public education and graduated, and if her profile is correct, was able to get into post- secondary. Anyone else scared that she was able to get through school with writing skills like this? Here's hoping that she put much more effort into her school work, otherwise what an epic failure of her school(s).
It's one thing for the twelve year olds who are just starting out and writing their own story to write like that, but someone who's twenty- one? That's just....wow...
Damn, she still hasn't put up the:
"U people r sooo mean, im gonna sotp writifg becuase of u!!11111!!!! unless i get 5 gd reveiws111!!!!!11!!111!1!!!!!1!1!!!!1111!!"
I couldn't read more than the 'Proface'. My Immortal was awful, but hilarious. This is awful, and it hurts. Her profile hurts, too. If she's getting a book published, I'm firebombing the publisher. Who's with me?
@46 I am!
<<43
I'm barely above twelve but my writing is much better than hers. I can actually write... she just strings words together in a disgusting fashion. It's unbelieveable that she's an English major. I couldn't get past the first chapter- it was just too horrible.
My opinion on flames: they're good if they're deserved and with constructive critism.
Sign me up for the firebombing.
It's people like that that piss me off. I try to offer good critism and be fair with it, but when someone messes up THIS badly, it makes me want to go up to them and hit them repeatedly with a metal baseball bat.
And the fact that she's an adult makes it even worst. It's one thing if you're six and in third grade. It's another when you're twenty one and a mother of two.
And doth mine eyes decieve me? Did she just say she's on her way to getting PUBLISHED? Jesus tap-dancing Christ.
i-i-i don't even know what to say? it's people like this that are the reason I've stopped searching out new authors and just stuck with the ones I know.
critique =/= flame...
I think she's full of it, or likely a troll. Is the posting to her profile that she's got a book being published, supposed to make people believe she's actually a good reader?
It's also proof, popularity =/= quality by a long shot...
G-Good dear sweet God...no...there's no way...She's makes Stephenie Meyer look good to me and despise her work! (No offense, Twilight-lovers)
I didn't think someone could actually write that badly. And I really hope she's just trolling with that book. If she isn't...there are no words to describe the stupidity on the part of the publisher. At least My Immortal was funny! This is, without a doubt, the WORST thing I have ever lead my eyes on!
No seriously, it makes me want to weep for literate. I don't usually flame but...God I NEED to go flame this woman! I just need to for the justice of writing in general!
yeah, I fucking love you. Will you marry me...
(My first online proposal!)
Oops, wrong board...
@51 Thanks
YAY
Nope that didn't work either.
. .
____
AHHH!!! OMG! This girl has reviewed one of my storys...
'omg continue duh'
That is what she actually put! I had no idea what that meant! And now im embarrassed because im in her favorites list :(
>>60 lol, what's this girl's story called again? Sorry, can't be bothered to try and search for it above. I gotta check this out. Also, who's the author of My Immortal because there's too many fanfics with that name so I'm not sure which is the one you all mentioned.
>>61, this is My Immortal, the awful fanfic everyone knows about. The author is "Tara Gilesbie."
http://myimmortalrehost.webs.com/
Thanks! ...ARGHHH, now my eyes are burned by horrendous grammar, spelling, and total lack of sense >_< Well, I asked for it, darn my morbid curiosity.
Just had a look at My Immortal! What a wanker! The chapters are 5 lines long and how the hell can she pride herself on bad spelling? IDIOT!!
>>60 - I am not sure what to say on this one. I think the best thing is to say, she is probabbly doing it to make herself look good. Be glad she hasn't taken one of your stories and plagerized it, claiming it was hers. Believe me... that has so happened before, it isn't funny.
>>64 - My Immortal is by far the worst. Go to Tv Troupes. There is a whole list of bad fanfics there. This one isn't listed there yet. Not to mention, I've read quite a few of my own...
reading flames make me giggle and sometimes, the flames are necessary.
like i just read the "My immortal" story by Tara Gilesbie and yes. the flames are completely necessary for them. im serious, its like shes not even trying! and she doesnt get why they are calling her OC "Ebony" a mary-sue. im sorry, i had to disinfect my eyes from reading the first 6 chapters of it.
a part that made me want to gag:
“They were having sexual intercourse in the Forbidden Forest!” he yelled in a furious voice.
“Why did you do such a thing, you mediocre dunces?” asked Professor McGonagall.
“How dare you?” demanded Professor Snape.
And then Draco shrieked. “BECAUSE I LOVE HER!”
Everyone was quiet. Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall still looked mad but Professor Snape said. “Fine. Very well. You may go up to your rooms.”
Draco and I went upstairs while the teachers glared at us.
“Are you okay, Ebony?” Draco asked me gently.
“Yeah I guess.” I lied. I went to the girl’s dorm and brushed my teeth and my hair and changed into a low-cut black floor-length dress with red lace all around it and black high heels. When I came out….
Draco was standing in front of the bathroom, and he started to sing ‘I just wanna live’ by Good Charlotte. I was so flattered, even though he wasn’t supposed to be there. We hugged and kissed. After that, we said goodnight and he reluctantly went back into his room."
...shivers
idk who is giving that girl good reviews, but i can NOT believe she isnt getting the fact that her stories are short, have rarely any plot, and her OC was poorly planned. Plus, i accept OOC characters, but what she just did there was waay too much.
>>66 - You do realize, most people now think the author of My Immortal is a troll writer? Even if she isn't, she loves attention she gets. It's a bad example, to say the truth, particularly since it gets pushed to the side in any conversation of Mary Sue.
>>67 - Some of the good reviews come from people who lol her fanfic, because it is so bad. Some are troll comments, created by sock puppets. Others are really that dumb.
I don't accept OoC characters. A few mistakes here and there, I can deal with. I personally feel that a good author will work their plot around the characters, not the characters around the plot.
>>68
people, ive heard, are debating whether shes really trolling or doing this for real. i mean i just found out about this story like 2 days ago.
...Dude...and I thought I had horrible grammar. I think my confidence in it upped a bit...ugh. my eyes are still burning from looking at BOTH of those links.
http://pottersues.livejournal.com/319537.html?thread=32454705#t32454705
I really think that the person is a troll...
I seriously hope her writing is a joke...if it is then it would all make sense...

....how did that happen? D:
>>77 - Don't press the reply button multiple times, only once. It takes time to post.
>>79 - If people had left constructive critism, instead of flames in the first place, the person might have started improving their fanfic sooner, and growing as a writer sooner.
I left a review, even though I don't know the fandom, and don't read slash. For everyone looking at this thread, this person is looking for HONEST critisism, to write a better story.
Since the link didn't post, so that people can just click, I'm redoing it.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5941273/9/If_I_Shall_Die_Before_I_Wake
This post is gold. 4, 37, 43, 55, 66 all made me lol. Reading the first page of that...random mass of letters and the reviews for it had me laughing so hard I almost cried. I don't even care if it's trolling, the amount of positive reviews can't all be BS. Gold.
>>81 - Ahh... you mean My Immortal. You're right in the fact that not all of the good reviews are trollers, but... some people would like to think, there aren't THAT many people who can't desitinquish bad writing from good.
Wait... Twilight had the exact same thing happen to it. There are the people who like, and know it's not the best, but the number of people jumping all over it... shivers...
Where the flippity floppity flump did Zura mention My Immortal?
>>83 - They refered to "positive reviews can't all be BS." In other words, they are refering to the fact that some positive reviews were called out for trolling. That was only mentioned for My Immortal, not the other fanfic. If that isn't what they were talking about, I then haven't got a clue what they were trying to say.
Or, y'know, the rather more obvious explanation that Zura was talking about the fic this thread is about. You're placing your own odd interpretation on something that's pretty straightforward. That's, well, odd.
>>85 Correct.
I'll check out the My Immortal thing in due time. In this instance I was referring to the profaced story and the hilarious reviews.
>>86 - Thanks for clearing that up.
Somebody did a comic adaption of the notorious bad!fic My Immortal. It's kinda funny. Here's the link: http://www.drunkduck.com/My_Immortal/index.php?p=605205
>>88 - I've seen it. The person had guts to do the comic.
