Seeing Robert in New Moon has changed your view of Edward & Bella fanfics? (52)

1 Name: mesmerizing : 2010-02-02 16:19 ID:goiSn8TQ

I for one am not a Twilight Junkie, however I did read the books about 3 years ago and thought the movie would be interesting.

After seeing the movie "New Moon", did your views of Edward change after seeing Robert about to plunge into the sunlight? I mean did anyone else notice the obvious nipple size variation, unvolumptious stomach, and unsightly mystery hair going down to certain places?

I'm sorry but if Edward was the main character in the movie, then why didn't the movie theater go up a few degrees when he took of his shirt, compared to the delicious Taylor Launter?

Edward has now become so unattractive to me (besides his decisions towards Bella), that I don't even enjoy the Twilight fanfictions as much as I used to. Robert's body is now burned into my mind...

It's bad enough that he has some fans that are for team Jacob due to his hesitant or in some cases rash decisions towards Bella's life. But, now more have switched teams because of his body all together, what next?

Any thoughts?

So it wasn't Pattinson's own evident disdain for the character, the books, and their fans that turned you off, then?

Seriously, some of the interviews he did were things of beauty.

3 Name: RayRay : 2010-02-02 16:33 ID:Uq6OC/N+

I just think he was completely wrong for the part, he's actually pretty attractive in the fourth HP movie.

I think the disdain he has for the character actually makes the movies more interesting. Robert hates Edward, therefore when he acts he just makes the hate pronounced, Edward is supposed to be troubled, when it's clearly obvious that Pattinson is just trying to protray him as someone so full of self-hatred that really he's just a dickhead.

But the body issue. There was a slight giggle around the cinema when Taylor's top came off. With Edward, I think I heard one girl say something like "Yay!"

Fun times.

I never saw it in the cinema, but you gotta admit Taylor's body's like... hot.

6 Name: DarthRevanShepard : 2010-02-03 08:58 ID:WXEKDR+A

I didn't like Edward in the second book anyway so the random pube hairs and dead looking skin didn't really change anything.

Well......

Actually I find Robert's body quite attractive. At least we can be certain that he didn't need steroids to achieve it. I am not so certain about Taylor in that respect.... Speak for yourselves, not for the entire population. Thank-you.

Taylor didn't use steroids, he just had a hell of a lot of working out to do - they pushed him and pushed him hard...he's only 17 so yeah...well, possibly 18 I think his birthday is around now...

But Roberts body makes me feel sick, he's too...pasty.

It's really just the fact that they made him the colour of chalk that puts me off.

But i did forgive him because when you set looks aside i think edward is more suited to bella. !

I think that Robert is not suited to the role of Edward. He does not act very Edward like at least as far as I am concered. He is nowhere near attractive enough to protray Edward who is described as being almost God like. Sorry but he so does not cut it as far as looks go and to be honest the crowd in the cinema seemed to agree, the cheers and wolf whistels where no where near as loud when Robert came on screen shirtless than they where when Taylor came on screen. Robert's lack of attractiveness has not lowered my opion of Edward. I was however team Swliteland until the film and now as far as the films go I am totally team Jacob

Personally, I think Robert is beautiful. Let's face it, who actually looks like how Stephanie has described in the book.

I don't really like the books, however I like the tasty men in the films :)

But when I first read it, I imagined Edward as a pale and younger Leonardo DiCaprio, despite that I had seen the film when I read the book :L

I will say for a start, I'm not much of a twilight fan. I read the books, I liked the first one, and the volturi from the second one (they were good characters). I watched the movies out so far, and i was rather dissapointed... I can totally agree with the nipple size variation- that was wierd, especially on a big screen. I'm not saying He's ugly (he definately isn't), his face is quite nice, and his acting is good... And I have read a few fanfics, but since the movies came out, I couldn't stand them- I guess the movies ruined it for me. Does anyone else get that?

28 Name: RayRay : 2010-02-21 18:18 ID:+ZQULa7G

Did you call me Sir?

I, my dear, am a lady, or rather, a female...

I wouldn't say I'm a lady, I dress in overlarge clothes, study engineering and have short hair. But yeah, I'm a girl. I'll stress that point just a little.

I never noticed the variation of the nipples, but I did nearly throw up, and I seriously think he's ugly... like... seriously.

There is nothing attractive about that constant looking constipation that he suffers from.

Okay, before anyone gets any ideas, I'm not into Twilight that much - I find the films are a nice medium as they don't seem to be too tedious, whereas I have picked the book up once and found I couldn't get into it. I'm male, but bisexual, but that is neither here nor there in this case.

My question is, why the hell should it have mattered that you saw him in New Moon and decided that? Surely, after seeing Twilight (the original movie), you knew exactly how he looked, and therefore you were effectively warned about the fact he'd be starring as Edward for every film. If you all hated him so much, why go watch the second film? I mean, you all must have read the books already, and love the fanfiction... so why go watch the film if the lead is an actor you now despise? I don't understand...

>>29 There is a difference between loathing the books and finding things wrong with them, so my reasons for going to see the movies are that I like seeing books put into movie form, and I like going and seeing how well I think they've carried it off.

The difference with him in New Moon is we actually get a full scene with his top off, and it just wasn't as pleasing as it should have been. Now every girl likes to swoon over a hot body, and I think the general consenses is that it was a massive let down, which ultimately will influence the way you see the character. It's the downfall of all book to movie things, you can have an idea of a character in your head but really, once you see the movie thats how you tend to picture the character - I have very few exceptions in this field, though there are a few admittedly.

>>1 Firstly, 'volumptuous' is not a word. 'Voluptuous' IS a word, but means 'curvaceous, sexy or womanly'.

I would certainly hope Edward's stomach is not voluptuous. I already despise the character enough as it is. (Hmm, I haven't seen New Moon yet. I really should pick up a copy at the video rental so the family can snark at it.)

That aside. I read your post, but all I saw was "Edward's not as Adonis-like as Meyer promised! And now people even prefer Jacob/Bella! The nerve!" I have to say, if if was THAT that turned you off the pairing—as opposed to, say, the abusiveness, the obvious codependency, the ridiculous OMG SUICIDAL tendencies, the ragingly inconsistent characterization or a slew of other frankly pretty ugly traits—er. I think I forgot where I was going with this.

33 Name: MyButterfly : 2010-02-25 12:47 ID:iI7wQ0VK

I am not a fan of Twilight to be honest. I saw the films and I dont really mind Robert playing Edward, I think it almost suits him, However, his voice in the film does make me want to cringe a bit! and that look of constipation is rather offputting. Other than that though haha

Twilight was written for teen girls with no brains. They worship it, love the acotrs in the first film then when a "fitter" actor comes along in the second film they immediately change their minds and deny they ever like Robert Pattison.

This. Oh God, this.
The pairing is unattractive for more reasons than Robert Pattinson's not-so-Adonis-like body.
Also, no-one is as perfect in looks as Meyer wrote Edward to be. It was her wet dream. He is her ideal, and he is her Gary-Stu.
It's fine that people like Jacob, but I hope they all realise that in the end he gets the hots for a baby. No amount of "but she looks older than she is" will change the fact Jacob is most probably a paedophile.

Also, is it just me, or are the majority of Twilight fans very shallow? Ask them why they like Twilight and it is usually "OMG! Bcoz Edward and Jacob are teh hotness!"

In answering the original post's question - no, my view of Edward and Bella fanfiction has not changed. I used to think it sucked, and I still think it sucks.

37 Name: RayRay : 2010-03-04 08:13 ID:4w6TpPEb

I have a love-hate relationship with Twilight. I think it's a good idea, but it was ruined by her writing and her never-ending descriptions of Edward and how much they loved each other. The potential it had, it could have been great. But it failed - in so many ways.

And I like Jacob, because to be honest. I just ignore the abomination that is Renesmee - it never happened. The only part of Breaking Dawn I actually like - now that I've read it more than once - is the bit that's from Jacobs POV.

38 Name: moonphase : 2010-03-04 08:46 ID:lHiawAJD

Jacon was the closest thing to a real character. I think Meyer wanted Edward to be perfect, and Jacob to be imperfect, but better than the likes of Mike.) As a result of giving him plausable faults, he became more 3-D then her main two protagonists.

39 Name: moonphase : 2010-03-04 08:47 ID:lHiawAJD

'Jacon'??? Lol, I mean Jacob...

40 Name: RayRay : 2010-03-04 08:50 ID:4w6TpPEb

Interesting new name you've come up with there! I like.

And yeah, Jacob has a personality, right from the beginning. All of her other characters are really one/two-D with the exception of perhaps Carlisle and Jasper, we learn something about them throughout the books.

Edward is boring.

41 Name: Becca Moon : 2010-04-07 10:24 ID:1fLCl16w

I don't think that they cast the right actors for Bella and Edward. Yes, they have chemistry but i don't think that they look the part.
I think Taylor as Jacob is perfect. And he is veryyy fit.
Once i watched New Moon, i was swaying towards Team Jacob and the werewolves....and then i read the series again and I was totally in Team Edward and the Cullens.

Also I didn't like how Twilight was directed....i think that Catherine Hardwick tried to make the film seem 'cool' but in the end it looked a little cheesy and trashy.
I think New Moon was an improvement...I just hope Eclipse is even better.

And don't get me started on what Robert Patterson looks like....He isn't that good looking and he doesn't look at all like i imagined Edward to look like.

42 Name: RayRay : 2010-04-07 11:32 ID:ZlhzRqQt

Hm... Pattinson can't act in Twilight, but I watched 'Remember Me' and really... he can act.

Which just futher proves that he's acting bad because he hates the character... good for him!

43 Name: danibear423 : 2010-04-07 14:40 ID:ooXQeGQ6

Sighs and shakes head disapprovingly... I have to say, I think that Rob was the best person that they could have cast as Edward. He is not the ideal person but he is close, and he is a very good actor. I imagined the hair colour and everything though. Has anyone noticed that Kristen's hair is more Red than Robs and his character is meant to be the 'Bronze haired god' I don't really imagine Rob when I read the fanfiction, though I do like him. And I can quite honestly say that the people who went Team Jacob because of Taylor Lautner are very shallow. If you think thta he's fit, watch him again in Twilight, He hadn't started working out yet, and the only reason he did work out was for New Moon
>>42 I agree about him being good in Remember Me, He really can act, Kristen however, she just does depressed.

44 Name: Captinifeelwozey : 2010-04-13 16:42 ID:JBwAXkuP

Well I like the books... hate the movies (well sorta hate them) and I dont picture Edward to be Robert, or Jake to be Taylor. I dont like the movies because there nothing like the books. I think nobody should change there opinion on the charactors from the book just because of the film. And lets face it if Jacob wasnt so BUFF, im sure we wouldnt be putting Robert down so much. And the hair... well its not over his back (ewww!) so I dont mind, his body is more like a real mans body anyway, unlike Jakes over muscled one (not that im protesting). :p ... I sopose in truth Robert could have done with a little more muscle. No he wasnt suited to the role, but in the first film I could see in him bits of the Edward I had visioned in my head.

So no! my view on fanfics are the same as my view on the books is the same :)

Ive also got the graphic novel and the edward in that is definately better, but I still perceive Edward somewhat more...

My best mate is Team Edward and swoons over everything Pattinson, I'm a Team Jacob, not only coz he represents Wolves and I'm a wolf girl from childhood; with an affinity for wolves - but his character has more background than behind the vamp.

Totally cant stand Bella though!

48 Name: sharingansupergirl : 2010-04-28 08:35 ID:3iigWpzy

>>47, You can't stand Bella? What's not there to like?

Weirdly, I'm not hating Kristen. For an actress, she's only playing the character as well as she can, and she hasn't exactly a good example to go on. The book character she represents is a failure, so she's not really done too bad... unless Bella Swan is her only look, in that case, dear god...

49 Name: Dark Wolf : 2010-04-28 11:03 ID:F/GsJHE7

its not the actress par se, sometimes in some of Miss stewarts other movies she seems to portray the same roles...but the role of Bella is what kills me, she's drab!

I'm not huge on self-esteem but there are the odd days I feel a little more... well more; but Bella never does, she needs a good day out with the girls! maybe then she'd see herself somewhat better, and feel good about herself. Just the character needs a little tweeking. Unless thats what teens nowadays feel like, I really dont know??

50 Name: Lupa Dracolis : 2010-04-30 04:12 ID:uoDjJ2aH

>>49 Speaking from experience as a 'teen nowadays', I certainly don't. I know some people who are low on self esteem, but they seem to be the same people who dye their hair black, stick metal pins into their faces and have mysterious scars on their wrists. Bella Swan shares none of these attributes, at least.

btw, if you have a facial piercing I'm not trying to be offensive, they just freak me out a little.

lol, nope just the black hair.

Oh just how she's portrayed in the books then.....O.o

>>1 I agree. I don't think Robert Pattinson is as good-looking as he's made out to be at all, and therefore, I don't think he should play the part of Edward Cullen.

I know it's pretty shallow to base my opinion on his looks, but... Edward was described as a beautiful seventeen year-old in Twilight, and I don't think Pattinson is beautiful. Surely they could have found someone who fit Edward's description better?

I think he looked much better in Harry Potter, actually.

As for Kristen Stewart... I think she's alright, but she seems so... depressed and restrained all the time. And it's not just in Twilight, she acts that way in other movies, too. Not to mention her behaviour in interviews. So... I'm not sold on her portrayal either.

I like the books far better than the movies. Luckily, I don't have Pattionson's image in my head when I read Twilight. I feel sorry for you. Why don't you try bleaching your mind or something? ;-)
