I have never really seen it. First time I ever even thought of them being made into a couple was when I found out it had a bog fanbase online. Until then the books never really gave me a clue that they were anything more than friends.
On one hand, you can make a pairing out of anyone, but at the same time, the idea of these two being together is not bad. If authors can make it convincing, two old school friends being secretly in love is quite sweet. Although there is the presky thing called canon to consider...
Meh, fanfiction is exactly that - fiction for fans. Canon rules are meant to be broken in the name of fanfiction XD
