Hi everyone.
This is a thread for people to discuss thoughts about Sherlock Holmes. The orriginal stories, fanfics, movies, TV series ,etc. whatever you want to discuss about him, or anything linked.

I'll start.
I'm gonna watch Hound of the Baskervilles tonight.
I've read The Red-Headed League, The Cardboard Box, A Scandal in Bohemia, and some others which i cant think of at the moment.

The film was ok. it would have been better if it's had a good plot, but you know, this is Hollywood. You go to a movie and expect it to be awesome, you'll invariably come out disappointed.

On the plus side, it had a wonderful Hans Zimmer soundtrack. Spiffy.

>>4 Also on the plus side, it had no Basil Rathbone influences. Hallelujah.

I had never read a Sherlock Holmes story, and never planned to until we started examining it in my English lessons.
The first ever story of his i read was 'The Speckled Band' and i fell in love with the story and the Characters.
Conan-Doyle was an exceptinal writer in my opinion :) Just the way he portrayed every single detail with such passion and the way he was able to keep the clues hidden within the text so most people didn't realise till the end who had committed the crime is amazing!
When i heard a film was coming out i was so excited, but have yet to see it. Darn :)

I am a dedicated Sherlockian and have read all the stories so many times X3

when I first heard about the movie, I was wary. I then saw the trailer and was HORRIFIED. Explosions?? The supernatural??? ROBERT DOWNEY JUNIOR?!??? To me, it looked like my favourite sleuth was about to get right-royally ass-raped by Hollywood.

However, I went to see it two days ago, and I must say I loved it. Genuinely loved it! I think that Jude Law made a perfect Watson, and the relationship between him and Holmes was fantastic! Also I felt that Downey got so many of Sherlock's characteristics spot on, even if he was a little too rugged (and beefier) for my ideal Holmes, I still think he did a cracking job.

I can recommend it to any fans of the genre.

Just make sure not to take it too seriously ;) it is meant to be a bit of a laugh.

Time to physical Recovery: Six Weeks

Time to Psychological Recovery: Six months...

Funniest line in the entire movie!

I've read all the Casebook and Adventures short stories, i watch the tv series religeously and went to see the movie last week.
It was awsome!
Something that always really annoyed me about the show was how they portrayed Watson.
He's a doctor, a soldier and in many ways, Holmes' equal. why do actors insist on playing him as an idiot?
kudos to jude law for his performance

Spoiler Alert!

Didn't your heart just stop when all those barrels exploded around Watson?

I LOVED the Sherlock Holmes movie!

I'm a massive fan of the books... Like really massive... In a pathetically sad way XD however I went to see the movie and adored it as well. I loved the whole case Holmes had to cover, and I love Conan-Doyles writings. Loved Jude Law as Watson, for the first time ever he appeared as Holmes equal.

Yes, mine did! And when they were fighting up on the gurders. Who really hopes they'll make another movie?

Yes, I definitely would go in for a sequel, especially if the plots was...well, there.

I did quite enjoy the fact that (reportedly) Robert Downey JR said on a late night chat show that he thought Holmes was gay, and the person who owns the rights had a fot and told the director that if there was even a hint of gay in the movie, she'd pull the plug.

Whilst I'm not sure how credible the source for that story is, it did make me chuckle.

I loved the film. I saw it with my boyfriend who went in expecting the 'stereo-typical' Holmes - the middle-aged man who spends all his time in an armchair smoking a pipe and came out with a greater respect for Conan Doyle. He finally believes me when I say Holmes was actually an excellent fighter.

I've read all the stories (HATED The Speckled Band, but loved most of the others) and seen the movie (it was great, just the right amount of bromance, and Holmes and Watson were spot on.)

I've never been a fan of the originals, and I don't think they would really be my thing, but I saw the movie with my mum the other week; I was sick, her treat for me haha.

And I loved it, I thought it was really well done, and I absolutely love Robert Downey Jr, and I thought Jude Law was fabulous, he had some amazing parts; when he punched him, I just giggle at that scene over and over again.

And I loved the bad guy as well, I thought it was a great story line.
