Okay read some threads where the opinion about incest is going from creepy/sick, porn, obsession to I like it.
I write incest fic Numb3rs Don/Charlie. When I started to watch the fandom, I blame my friend for getting me hooked, I never thought about pairing the two brothers together. She point out some great fics and finally I started to write them myself.
I know most of you think people who write it are sick. Why? If it is consensual sex between the two brothers, and remember people its fiction, then why not?
I'm also writing them in my wereverse and the team knows, so no secret there. Don't get me wrong, in real life it is wrong and I say if it is a father molesting his child, cut off his private's.
I know someone who went through it and se reads/write's Wincest SPN the Winchester brothers for those who don't know them. I was reluctant to talk about it with her, but she said, if they both want it then it's okay. Remember this it is 'CONSENSUAL' they both want it.
My friend got me hooked on Dante/Vergil (Devil May Cry) twincest and I blame her constantly for it. I still find it hard to believe I like it but love is love I guess. Plus it isn't real life so I don't freak out as much.
Hello, it's fiction! Plus, even in reality there is zero chance of having a jacked-up baby if two brothers are messing around with each other. Why is everyone so freaking uptight?
If we can't go there in our imaginations, then I ask you, what is left?!
Just because two people want something doesn't make it acceptable or palatable in my opinion. Why would incest be okay on any terms? Granted the story may be fiction, but in reality incest is destructive and harmful and runs contrary to the norms of society. I dislike when writers try to take an act so horrific and turn it into romantic love or try to find a means of justifying it.
That's just my view on the subject. There're plenty of people who think otherwise, as proven in the number of incest fics that are out there. I'll never say they shouldn't be written, but I think in most cases incest stories are the result of fanfic writers seeing actors playing siblings and deciding they make a cute couple, then finding a means of getting said siblings together. The results are usually idealized, predicatable, weak, and the OOC-ness abounds.
I will say that I included incest in a story I wrote, but my intent was purely to show the horrors that can result by such close inbreeding. I was cheered and lambasted in measure for including it in a fandom that's usually pretty candy coated. I've also met several people who write incest stories. I've never thought a single one of them to be sick - I just find that their tastes run contrary to mine.
I'd be interesting to know what the same people who like male/male incest, think of male/female incest, factoring in that pregnancy can be avoided quite reliably.
Honestly, both versions usually are a bit squicky for me, but if people like it, then I don't mind that they read or write it. I have actually found the rare one that seems to pull it off well and make it seem good, but it usually seems to just be for the 'OMG Fred/George iz hawt' factor.
Incest = creepy as hell, and usually very bad news for all concerned. That's no reason not to include it in a story, though, if you think you can handle it.
Fiction should be limited by what the author can make beleivable. Whether all of it's nice or not is irrelevant.
@Majin Don't read/write het so I will never write it. Could be interesting though if like you said pregnancy can be avoided quite reliably. Sorry folks that is my opinion.
>>7 I'm not that into het incest, it freaks me out more than male/male or female/female.
I'm not fussed about incest. For example, I love CainxAbel (Trinity Blood), but I don't really like NejiHinata (Naruto). It depends whether the personalities fit or not.
-xLH
I must agree with you, DarthRevanShepard. While I'm not in any way an incest fan, het incest tends to make me want to crawl under my desk and hide.
Hey :).....I dont really have an opinion on incest either way....I can see it as being'wrong' but I also see it as you cant help who you fall for kinda thing, so Im always in 2 minds on the subject. I just wanted to ask a question...some people have the view that writing incest in stories is fine, but in real life its not.......if you think writing a story about 2 siblings falling in love is fine then why do you feel its wrong in real life ? :)
@DarthRevanShepard Question. Why did you delete your first response, something about being hooked on a fandom involving incest? Could have read it wrong, but I remember answering it, hell my response is still there.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but why all of the sudden having a change of heart? Now it freaks you out more then slash?
Sorry if this is rude, but I'm curious that is all.
@abvamp - DarthR's response is still there, the site just compresses threads and hides the first few.
@abvamp - I'm not too sure why it freaks me out so much, it just does. My mind works in weird ways sometimes, the fact that I'm ok-ish with slash incest compared to het incest is rather weird but I guess that's just the way my brain works, I don't have a proper reason for being freaked by it.
Used to love reading fiction with incest pairings, but now I'm just not that int it anymore. Only pairing like that that I still love to death is NejiHina, and that's not even considered incest in places like Japan.
Give me some Itachi x Sasuke any day of the week! It's always good.
I don't like incest. Sorry if this offends anyone, but I don't feel comfortable with it. I think it's cause they share blood, I think it's strange. I don't discourage people from writing incest, I just won't read it
I find it hard to see a fic with incest as such. it's two guys I love, having imagined sex. while they might be brothers on screen, they aren't really, they are just happen to be people I fancy. so what's the problem? it's all fiction.
its not the issue of it being fiction, what if someone out there is in this predicament in real life, should we tell him/her you are sick!? for falling in love? i personally dont see anything wrong with incest as long as its not a dad molesting their child, that is just wrong, so to speak. but who am i to say that its wrong? as long as both parties agree. some tribes i dont know if they still do, used to have people marry in their family to keep the line going. just because society decided, oh! if you fall in love with your sibling you are dead meat, better yet, you are the worst.
if you think back to adam and eve. how exactly did they end up giving birth to the world now if it wasnt for the children born making babies among each other? unless there were other people besides adam and eve who the bible failed to mention. to multiply, they had to have had sex among themselves. so i think. but i could be wrong. and i must confess, i just know about adam and eve from my sunday school days which were about 15 years ago and of course from my RE lessons. so dont bite my head off if i have got it wrong.
so i say power to incest as long as there is honest love!!!!!!
I'm not especially keen on incest but I have read some fics that I like that has incest in them. It's not something I'd search for but it's not something I'd refuse to read.
I think sometimes incest can be understandable in the writing and if it's written well I can even see where they are coming from. One I especially notice this in is Uchihacest - the ones I've read made so much sense to me. But I wouldn't call myself a fan.
Xx..xX
Personally it doesn't really bother me, as the fics I read they don't creep into. Some of it is just weird to complentate, for example in Naruto it's hard for me to actually read anything Itachi/Sasuke. That's probably because I don't like slash. But I have no problem with NejiHina, weird huh?
Me I read and writte incest, well twincest. So it doesn't bother me like that. And the laws against incest was mainly in place to protect children. To prevent rape and such like. The spawn in a relation between siblings has a lot worse chance at life, but if the incest is between say two consenting brothers it doesn't bother me. Not Irl either really, i'm not gonna play god in someones love life. As long as all is safe it is fine by me.
But for me to read it, some basic facts has to be there, like genetics, if there is a kid in the outcome there need to be some realism to it. And then i don't mean it has to be deformed but i mean that twins that get a child most likely will be twins not one, and in case of m-preg and identical twins, the only thing there is they can get is copies of them self acording to my biology teacher. That kind of facts.
I haven't read the entirety of the other responses, so I apologize if I'm just restating views that have already been expressed more clearly/eloquently than my own efforts.
I do write and read incest fanfiction, even real person slash incest, which involves another set of issues entirely. I like the idea of siblings in love because it adds to the connection, it has another level of closeness. It depends on the characters of course, not every pairing is going to work, even in our world of fiction and artistic liberties. But I don't really see an incestuous pairing as different from any other pairing as far as being inherently "right" or "wrong" goes.
I personally don't think real life incest between consenting adults is morally wrong. There are ethical considerations for heterosexual incestuous couples with the possibility of pregnancy and birth defects, but I don't think this complication makes the entire affair inherently bad. It's similar to a person with an inherited genetic disorder, they have to use birth control responsibly or be prepared for the possible consequences.
That's all from me for now. :)
I personally don't read or like it, but I don't think those who do are disgusting - it's just a matter of tastes, and after all: it is fictional ;)
I am, personally uncomfortable with incest, just because for me there is a clear boundary between family and not family. Although I have very close friends, for example, I would feel uncomfortable if one of them were to kiss me, even in a non-romantic way. If it was a member of my family I would think nothing of it because that, to me, seems natural. If there were something romantic about it, it would make me very uncomfortable.
I will not, however, condemn someone for supporting incest, so long as it is between two mutually consenting adults. If someone is hitting on a child, I find that morally wrong. In any circumstance, not just an incestuous one.
I wouldn't read an incest fanfic. I have tried a few and I just didn't like them. In my experience it isn't something I like, so I avoid it.
I think incest fanfic is fine as long there's some sort of warning/caution where people can read it before going onto reading it. At the end of the day, its all fiction.
One thing i dont like is when readers write hate mail and nasty reviews to authors. Reviews which are really meant for appreciating work and helping authors improve, not the other way around.
I understand everyone has different opinions, if you like it, you like it. And if you dont like it, then you dont. Its simple, its not like anyones forcing you to read it.
I mean, its obvious the author has spent their time and effort working on their story, let alone being kind enough to share it with everyone. All im saying is, readers, be a little more supportive.
My first post here! :O
This thread got me thinking, because although I'm highly uncomfortable with incest stories and would never write them myself, there's really no logical reason for me to feel that way. I mean, I have no problem with reading and writing about things like abuse, murder and underage sex, so I should really be ok with incest fics too. But... I'm not. I guess that means that on a deep, psychological level I find consensual incest more disturbing than murder. :/
Alternatively, it could be that most murder/abuse fics make it perfectly clear that there are issues with the subject matter, while the only incest fics I've read try to justify it and pretend it's not a problem. Or am I just reading the wrong ones?
Anyway, I don't think reading or writing anything like this makes you sick, because there's a big difference between thinking about it and doing it in real life. No matter how uncomfortable I am with it, I really don't think people should flame writers of incest fic.
I don't seem to mind Incest. I'm up for Fred and George from Harry Potter and a lot of step brother and stuff but i'm not one for rapecest. no.
I would never write on myself but reading them is a whole different idea. i love to review on them and tell them if i love it or dont (mostly love i just don't review those i don't like). :D
I think it disgusting to write such things. People should not think about it and therefore should not write it at all! Why is it even around is beyond me, and I'm glad people put warnings, but really, do we really need stories on incest?
If my opinion is narrow minded, I'm cool with being guilty here, better than incest any day.
In that case, why write anything at all? I'm sure that there are people that feel the way you do about every category of story that's out there.
People write incest stories for a variety of reasons - some may enjoy the idea, others may write for theraputic reasons, or incest may just fit in with the story they're writing, as is the case with me and a story I wrote. I neither like nor approve of incest stories, but for the sake of my story it was necessary and I took care to show the horrific effect it can have on the people involved.
You ask if we really need stories on incest. Ignoring it will not make incest go away. Glorifying it will not make it socially acceptable. Writing about it, however, gives a writer the chance to express their views on it, and the day we silence people from writing what they want or need to write would be to welcome in another dark age.
Whether we agree with what is written or not is for the reader to decide. Your opinion is just that - your opinion. There are people here that agree and disagree with you. I can't say if it's broad- or narrow-minded, it's just one more view of the subject.
Precisely. As I have (often) said before, anything can result in a good story if approached in the right way. Fiction is largely about conflict, and what better source of conflict than a social taboo like incest?
There are excellent stories out there dealing with such unsavoury issues as rape, slavery, genocide, and the like. Why should incest be an exception?
As for whether or not it should be dealt with in fanfiction... well, that's just an extra challenge, isn't it? Or not, if you're writing something based on A Song of Ice and Fire.
My best friend tends to get obsessed with brothers; Supernatural, Heroes, etc, and iv even read one of her fanfics, it was just like your average steamy gay scene - but most of the time its because its controversial and adds a different twist to someone's increasingly worrying sexual fantasies.
I agree totally with Iaculus
Plus, as a 'realist' Catholic, its fun to see who brings up the 'it goes against God' thing, it does amuse me that people take it so seriously when people are clearly just fatasising something and seeing how raunchy and wrong it can get.
PAHAHAHAHAHA - 'social norms' what a load of bollocks
It can be fine as long as no one takes it too seriously. After all, some people just go OTT sometimes.
I don't think there's anything wrong with incest as long as both parties want it. So what? It's their will.. And fiction is fiction. There's no harm done. Fiction is meant to amuse. So be AMUSED people!! >.< don't take it seriously.. You'll get wrinkles early if you do! ahahah LOL..
I don't mind incest and I don't think that people who read/wirte it are sick or twisted.
I liked the two brothers from "Supernatural" Sam+Dean because it is just too damn cute and funny!
Also, (going off of programs to Kingdom Hearts here) I support the Sora+Roxas pairing because that is cute too and you can do almost anything with them. Technically it is incest isn't it?
Ah, there's nothing like a good incest fic to cheer the soul! I, myself, LOVE to relax after a hard day's graft by having a candlelit bath... and reading some INCEST! Yes!
... When I see an incest fic that actually has a plot, rather than just existing as an excuse for a bad writer to play out their sick sexual fantasies, I might soften my opinion on the subject. I wonder, though- how many people who like incestfic actually have a sibling or two?
@... To answer your question, I have a sister and I will never in a million years do anything to her to hurt her. I love my sister very much.
About incest, cause it's my thread. I never thought about writing it untill I read a Numb3rs fic with the brothers being lovers. It's all concensual so why not. None of the brothers forced the other one to have sex and it's all fiction.
? I wasn't implying that you would. I was wondering whether more people who had siblings would have that automatic 'ugh!' reaction than those who didn't, as it would be more distant to an only child.
I LOVE incest aslong as it's sweet and true - it's beautiful! :)
I enjoy incest as long as it's consensual. I've both read and written incest from a number of fandoms like Supernatural, OHSHC, Naruto, Heroes ect. I think in a lot of cases it's sweet and because they already have that bond it makes a romantic one all the deeper.
I don't agree with the creepy one sibling obsessed with the other one/ rapes other sibling.
I have a sister and I don't think it affects my love of incest. Reading incest doesn't gross me out or make me think of doing squicky things to her.
Alright, incest isn't my thing. But I have a theory why people like twincest- its cause of a thing called 'symmetrical beauty'. It doesn't even have to be twins- just people that look like each other. L and B, for example. I looooove that pairing.
But i think if a brother or sister love each other THAT MUCH, then it's up to them to face the consequences. Fics bout it are ok, because i agree with Prism0467. It's just fiction. Nothin to worry bout.
Yeah, the logic to twincest is pretty obvious. Two of the same = twice as good.
'Course, I need hardly point out that whether it always works out that way is strictly a matter of personal taste.
As long as it's between two consenting adults, then anything's pretty much okay with me. People don't choose who they fall in love with and why should anyone judge them for it?
Well, there's the genetic issue, if they're planning on having kids.
Can't get your informed consent on who your parents are.
>>46 I second that.
the only reason that there is a law against it is a biological one.
do you know why kings' bloodlines were called blue-blooded?
because by having children between family members "father-daughter", "son-mother", "sister-brother" or even with a first cousin cause the child's blood to be weaker and more sensitive to lethal diseases. because biologically the child inherits same chromosomes twice.
so newest societies made a law against incest only to prevent sickness.
there was that real life story in Australia if i am correct. there was a young woman who fell in love with an older man, they got married and had a child. eventually they found out that they were father and daughter, he was her biological father that her mother had kept secret i think.
so the society went crazy and they tried to separate them. But in the end they won against the law. it was impossible to stop loving each other as a couple, she couldnt see him as a father and he couldnt see her as a daughter.
>>48 Wasn't there also another documentry about a brother and sister who had been seperated at birth and ended up falling in love with each other? Also I agree with all the statements above, you can't help who you fall in love with. The only reason people think it's wrong is because it was made illegal, but that was for medical reasons. Some people might say it's morally wrong but years ago inter-family relationships were not exactly common but accepted. It's the same with things like homosexuality.
Note also that there are certain extra issues with parental incest.
Three magic words: Abuse. Of. Power.
Turn it around and you get:
Power. Of. Abuse.
Oh yesss...
Actually, that really explains things, does it not?
In real life, no.
In fanfiction? YES!
it's not for me. others like it, fair enough. each to their own, i say. so long as it doesn't hurt anyone. but i don't believe that people who write incest are just venting their fantasy's, cause then it would the same for all writers, wouldn't it? i've written a lot of short stories, and one of them was about a serial killer as my central char. does that mean i had a secret urge to be a serial killer? Not really.
I don't know about incest. Some of the incest ones are really sweet because they are about love and not just a sudden impulse or sex. I don't know whats so different about gay incest because I mean if its a good story line and the two characters love eachother then its just the same as a straight relationship really.
The only Incest thing that really grosses me out is this; as a dare, I had to search M rated on every kids tv show and film i.e. Hannah Montanna, Wizards Of Waverly Place, High School Musical. I do anything for a dare and I was really suprised that most of these categories had nearly more M rated stuff than Torchwood, (Which in real life is rated a 15) and I discovered that when you searched different pairings that there was loads of Incest ones like Miley/Jackson, Justin/Alex, Justin/Max and the worst ones I found were Miley/Robbie Ray and Troy B/Jack B and that is seriously wrong- Father and Son or Daughter.
In fairness I have read some of the Max/Justin ones and some are so sweet that they are more lemony fluff than just lemon.
Although I agree Incest in real life is wrong but this is Fanfic and its just fiction.
Its only my opinion :D
There's something really intriguing about it, moreso to see how the writer handles it. I used to read it but sort of got out of the habit.
Mybe I've read the wrong fics, but incest always comes across as sordid... :/
I've written what could be considered incest (Bleach fic, Szayel/Ilforte. But you don't know if they died biological brothers or just were named so when they were reborn)
Still, it's never really bothered me on that sort of degree.
For some reason I just love ...'s sarcasm XD makes me giggle every time.
Incest is alright, I don't mind it. My characters have a kind-of twincesty bond but it's not enough to repulse somebody so much that they fall off their chairs :P.
Literally. I think that I just enjoy allowing my characters to show more bonding than just being brothers. They're twins and so they're more close...well closer than most twins :P. Effing smileys.
I'm not usually into incest, with the exception of Ouran High School Host Club-- when I started watching and reading, I was in the firm mindset that Hikaru and Kaoru only put on that forbidden brotherly love thing, but when I read some twincest fanfiction, I REALLY got into it.
Seriously. :D It was mostly a fanficiton called: fingerprints, that did it for me. It was beautiful :)
>>63 I still have to read OHSHC but I can't because my computer's downstairs so my parents see everything I read D: ...Unless I only read it on week-ends...hmm.
What fandom is that story on Lilmiz? (y'know...the story you mentioned hah.)
There's also Hetalia where some people don't mind the Italy's together hah...(I just love their little curls of hair. X3!)
I don't like sibling incest (e.g. Ikuto/Utau from Shugo Chara - which I liked until I found out the sibling thing), but I'm oddly fond of cousin incest (my favourite being Neji/Hanabi from Naruto, for some reason). I dunno, maybe I've watched too much cousin-incesty anime not to like it. XD
I've read a few Fred/George Weasleys...but now, they're all about Fred being dead (oh, it rhymes =[) so it could pass as non-romantic...Hmm.
It's a fiction. Just a really bad one.
I honestly don't like incest... I just don't see how family love could go past just that: family-love. I have lots of cousins and two siblings, and we are as close as anyone could be. For us to go f'urther', it would be extremely awkward and it could shatter our family relationship. I guess that's why it seems unnatural for me. ._.''
>>67 Oh god...My Immortal...I need to play the drinking game...
>> 48 - Which is also why a lot of the prince and princess had illnesses of sorts, because their genetics were so intwined, their bodies started to become weak.
>> 58 - A lot of the M rated fanfics for kiddy fandoms wierd me out, simply because their hormonal desires, nothing more.
...
I don't like insest fanfics, but... I can see certain pairings coming about. That being said...
1.) I am REALLY tiered of fanfics that stick two characters who are siblings together because they mistake brother/sister relationship as being an actual romantic relationship. Tai and Karin from Digimon always gave me the freaks, because so many people did this.
2.) Just as I am completly against slash that is written for hormonal wish fullfillment, rather then actually writing a story, I am against that for incest pairing. Then again, I am against any fanfic that uses the canon characters as personal toys for an author's sexual desires.
3.) I am also tiered of the insest fanfics that turn the characters OoC to achieve their pairing, but then, I am against any fanfic that does this.
4.) Their ARE certain incest pairings that I feel are completly impossible, due to characters personalities. For example, I find Ichigo/Karin and Ichigo/Yuzu completly impossible, because of the fact, Ichigo lives for his two sisters, and it goes against his character to have such a relationship with him. (However, in the same token, I can actually see Yuzu having a one sided crush on her brother.
5.) I also think that some author's don't take into concideration, the reactions of the canon characters around them. Or the consequences and possible aqwardness of having such a relationship. (I actually might read a fanfic like this, but seriously, there are almost none of these.)
Well, I would say I'm completely against it, and that would have been the truth about two weeks ago. Now, however, I have one single exception, and that's not even a real exception at all. I'm talking about Yui/Ui from K-On! I don't see them together in any sexual relationship, or anything, but they're so incredibly cute together it's hard not to like the pairing.
Another possible exeption from the 'incest is disgusting rule' are the twins Hikaru and Kaoru, from Ouran High School Host Club, who do seem to actually have a romantic relationship in canon.
>>75 Iaculus if you mean the Hikaru&Kaoru from OHSHC, then there is not fangirling in that one, the character have been seen in the anime, waking up in the same bed hugging eachother and being completely naked, with an elephant kind of artifact hiding one of the brother's genitals awkwardly.
He means that they play up to the fangirls WITHIN the story. Which is true.
>>74 - Actually, when there are hints of possible incest, if the fandom hasn't turned me off, I tend to be more accepting of it.
>>74 Personally I don't really think it's incest, and they both seem to be interested in Haruhi, so hrm. I prefer not to stick them together unless in a family way.
I don't really like incest, because I seriously couldn't imagine it in real life and it disgusts me. But it is fiction, so I guess people can do what they want. Still, sometimes it's just downright unrealistic. Not all the time, but most.
>>79 - I don't like it, and it does disgust me, but I'll read it, if their is a good plotline behind it, and the author doesn't pass it off as right. Those can make for a good story.
>>80 I haven't seen one of thoses yet, but it's probably because I haven't really looked in fandoms where it's actually possible. But I bet they're out there, for sure.
Just not my thing.
>>81 - I haven't seen any good ones either. I think the only one I can think of, where it would be possible, would be Pietro/Wanda from X-men Evo, going back to how twisted their family is. But only, only, if one looks at the dark side of things. (Actually, it is like rape fics... they are very far between, the good ones.)
One insest pairing that really disturbs me, and is likely to set a whole fandom against you, is the Pensivle siblings from Chronicles of Narnia. I think the best way to put it, it is thought to be taboo.
>>83 Eek, Chronicles of Narnia? I don't mean to sound rude to anybody who likes it, but I've read the books many times over and it just sounds wrong to me. I can't imagine a more-than-family relationship between any of them. To me, the thought of that is just... wrong.
Meh. The only kind've realistic one I can think of is if the story takes place in more ancient times, like in ancient Egypt royalty, where it wouldn't be so wrong. But I don't know any books/movies/mangas/animes that take place that far back in the past, so really I don't know any realistic incest pairings.
>>84 - Agreed with you. Most people get REALLY upset about the whole thing. There is also the fact that culturally speaking, for their generation, such act would be highly taboo too. There is one person, that I was familiar with their other writing, and noticed their fanfic. I told them, the pairing was taboo, and to tred lightly on it, as they were likely to stir up a heavy storm for writing that.
I don't know of any of those fandoms either. Back in historical times, incest wasn't unheard of, because people didn't know better. And it was mostly the royalty, not the commoners who did it, and the idea was to keep the blood pure. So, the other thing to keep in mind with that is, they didn't marry for love. It was all arranged.
Me, I don't like Incest, but to me that doesn't necessarily mean the people writing it are sick or twisted, or whatever. It's just my personal opinion and other people can write what they want to write. I usually just avoid the stories that have incest in them, and if I find a story that I'm reading that never posted warnings for it and it has incest, I usually just back out of the story. No harm no foul.
>>86 - Definatly doesn't mean that they are sick or twisted, though some are.
If it is well written I'm totally okay with it. If it isn't appealed to me then I won't read it. Even if its like, rape incest, or whatever I'll read it - again it has to be well-written describing the fear etc etc.
In realistic views it doesn't bother me much either. I'll be slightly disturbed but I'll get over it soon enough.
To tell the truth, I neither hate it nor like it. It all depends on the pairing, and if the author had a good story behind it. I've liked Itachi/Shisui pairings, and though they are distantly related, it IS incest. The only thing that worries me is in stories where it's brotherXsister, or girlcousinXboycousin. I'm sorry, but their kids are going to be... messed up in a blunt way to put it.
>>89 - Exactly how closely ARE they related? If the distance is great enough, it is NOT concidered incest. I don't know enough, to say anything though, about that one pairing.
I have recently started liking incest pairings more and more, especially twincest (in particular, Feliciano/Romano from Hetalia Axis Powers). But I really dislike it when writers make one or both of the characters (extremely) OOC, of course, not just incest fics are victim to this, not by a long shot, but they're still a rather promenent victim, I've found (but of course, I digress...).
... i love reading incest fics. Like in Naruto, Itachi and Sasuke, Minato and Naruto & Neji and Hinata are cute together, and there are threesome pairings that i love like ItaSasuNaru. There are also some authors that change the relationships b/w characters so that they are related and there are some that make a relative not be part of the family. Like Kyuubi and Naruto would be brothers (maybe even twins. twins are always hot) with a secret. and dont forget about Ouran Host Club like Kyouya and Tamaki. they are hot together >.<
ACK! i got the Host Club twins names wrong >.< i meant Hikaru and Kaoru. sorry XO
I suppose it would be okay if they didn't actually know they were related, too. So I could see a Pietro x Lorna X-men fanfic working (they're half-siblings) seeing as Pietro and Wanda were raised seperately from Lorna.
I personally don't like incest and avoid reading it whenever possible. However, I have nothing against people who write that and don't think they are sick in any way. To each their own, is how I see it. Just because I don't like something, doesn't mean I have too kick up a fuss and vice versa.
idk, its sometimes occurs to me that some things like yaoi and incest seem much better in fanfictions than in real life. i wonder if anyone else has felt that way
I've read the odd incest fic, by odd I mean a couple of wincest from SPN and I have no problem with it. In real life, I have no problem with gay incest (as in sister-sister, brother-brother, not mother-daughter, father-daughter, ugh). My ideology is that as long as they don't have kids, and they don't get pregnant, than they can do what the hell they want. It doesn't effect me what so ever. Personally, I am not attracted to my siblings, but I get that some people are. Good for them.
On fanfiction, it doesn't really matter, because it's not real. I don't avoid incest but I don't go looking for it. The same way I don't go lookinh for fics where Harry Potter has blue hair or something. I will read it and it wont bother me. Well, okay bad analogy, HP with blue hair would bug me...
>>98 - I think though, just because the characters aren't real, doesn't mean that a fanfic writer shouldn't treat them with respect. I much prefer slash and insest writers who do, and actually look down upon the behavior of those that don't... but that works with het pairings too.
And by the way, I've also seen people confuse not real, with not believable. While an insest pairing between the twins might be believable, if done right, Harry Potter with blue hair (unless died), is never going to be believable. Willing suspense of disbelief.
>>99 - Did you really write homophobic yaoi fangirls? Isn't that... an oxymoron? They are afraid or against gay people, but are into yaoi? Are there REALLY people like that?
@100- Thine eyes must have skimmed over COGNITIVE DISSONANCE, or the obvious would not have been stated, no?
>>100 Yemi it might be an oxymoron but it is not impossible since fictional and real world are different.
Don't forget that the most homophobes are gays in the closet. Because someone who is sure about their sexuality and completely okay with it, has no issues with other sexualities.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMIaVBnOhXo
this vid here says it all
>>102, I just checked out that video, it made me laugh. I knew that a lot of homophobes are probably secretly gay themselves, but I can't help but wish they weren't. I know a homophobe, I really hope he's not gay...It'd give me nightmares...
>>103 Why so? I generally find rampant hypocrisy amusing rather than disturbing.
>>102 - Ahh! Now I get what they were saying. I thought most homophobes were over religious zelouts who would concider Disney a problem. Believe me, I have one of those in the family, and his kids are now rebelling as they get to the stage that they can do so.
While I don't agree with it being right, because of religious standpoints, but I refuse to hate them. Two of my friends in high school twins, had divorced parents, and their mother was gay. Also, one of my favorite co-workers, from my last job, he was gay, and one of the kindest people ever. Actually, there were two by the time I left. I had more problems with her girlfriend showing up at work, during buisness hours.
I won't say its right or wrong in the real world, but this is fiction. As long as the story is belivable I have no problem with it.
>>64 It's OHSHC.
And you really have to read it. It's beautiful. :)
>>107 My cousin gave me the DVD for my birthday... it really is wonderful.
To be honest, I used to think it was just wrong, but that has changed slightly. In real life, it still sorta creeps me out, but hey. I don't care. When it comes to reading it, it depends on the pairing. I can't really think of any that I actually like other than Rin and Len Kagamine (vocaloids) Sure it's not really confirmed whether their twins, mirrors or lovers, but whatever. For them it really depends on the song/fanfiction. But, I've really begun to get into their twincesty songs/fanfictions, and I'm even guilty of writing one myself. One thing I can't stand though, is when they're horribly out of character. They have to be in character, or it's just not right.
Anywho, theres my opinon on it ^^
~Chika
>>109 - If you make them OoC to get your story to suceed, you've failed. But most people don't get that. That is one of the problems with many insest pairings is that it goes completly against the character, same with slash. But some characters, it can be very IC for.
Because I'm just opening up all of the semi-dead threads today:
I'm the twin sister to a brother. I cannot read an incest fic between a brother and sister without flinching. Especially if the two are twins like I am. It's simply a matter of thinking about things that I don't want to think about. I read a fic where a brother is feeling up his sister, I can't get this really bothersome image of me and my brother in that same position. It just bothers me.
The same goes for incest between parents and their children. Even if it's not between the father and the daughter, I still cringe. I lack the mental capability ~not~ to think about someone in my family in that position. And that disturbs me.
I have nothing against people who read these things. People who rant about incest being immoral, against the bible, and offensive need to remember that this is a matter of fiction and that the people who enjoy it don't necessarily enforce it. Basically: if the author warns against incest, my motto is "don't read it, don't complain". To each their own. I won't go around getting upset because I willingly read something that I knew I would find disturbing.
I do have to ask ellipse's earlier question: are most of you that like incest between siblings only children?
>>111 - I think that I'll awnser your question at the end first. I am not a fan of incest, but I do think most fans are in fact children who don't get the whole issues behind it. I see only a select few being IC for canon characters really, and I read it not as a pairing, but as an issue to be dealt with.
I also have problems with Gin/Toshiro (and Ran/Toshiro for that matter) from Bleach, not just because I find it pedofilic, but also because I've theorized that Toshiro only thinks he died and came to soul society, that he was actually born and mistook his powers manufesting at a very young age as (... how to put it...) he thought that was how he died. Aka, his parents are Gin and Ran.
But I'm also interested in writing a fanfic that deals with the fact that Toshiro is right at the borderline stage in development where he is going to go through puberty, or just starting to, which is a confusing time, where he takes a short term, bizare interest in both of his parents. Thing is... writing it so they all remain IC.
If you had approached me on this half a year ago, I would've yelled, "No way in hell!" Now, though? It's more like I have very strict rules on when it's okay. It has to seem logical in some way, for me.
Even though I really don't consider them to be biological brothers, I really like the "Germancest" (GermanyxPrussia) pairing for Hetalia. And recently, I've been starting to get into Supernatural's Wincest pairing.
But that's basically it. In real life, incest makes me raise an eyebrow. (And where I live, we joke about because we live near a town literally nicknamed "IncEsticada.") Fiction, though? You just need to REALLY sell it to me.
>>113 - I think that is what many people on this thread have been saying. It is practically a believability issue hands down.
I, personally, don't like incest very much. I'm an older sister and the thought of doing anything even vaguely sexual with my sister makes me want to scratch out my vajayjay and crawl into a small rat infested hole. I figure most people with siblings that they have to live in close quarters with every day find the idea just as deplorable. I figure that's where most of the dislike comes from.
But, I understand that there's nothing that's actually wrong with it. Especially between same sex couples (where there's no danger of making three headed babies) who are consenting, what they do is their business and I'm not going to treat them any different for who they find to spend their romantic times with.
I'm just, you know, not going to read about it too much, because that would be like admitting that I would ever consider maybe having sexual relations with my sibling, which would never happen ever ever ever ever ever. Ever. Ever...
>>115 - I completly get that there are people out there who happen to be in love with their sister. Actually, there are people in the bible who are REALLY closely related. It's the genetics thing that is the big issue. That, and it is taboo, which almost all the insest fanfics I see don't even bother to adress. And then you get writers of it who don't even bother to think about what certain characters think about it. The best way to put it, it is like Tatsuki from Bleach being in a girl/girl relationship due to her voicing her distaste for it without her going through proper characterization development for her to change her point of view on it.
>> 116 - I agree, I totally see where you're coming from. Like, the stories where two completely sane and self-conscious teenagers are about to enter into a relationship in which the whole of society will look down on, and they will have to fight to stay together, and there's all this great drama they can work with. But, instead, the author just has it so that the people themselves have no resistance to the idea. That bothers me. It's like walking by a double cheeseburger at lunch time. Missed opportunity that just makes you frustrated.
>>116 - That was actually me...
I got a computer virus and had to reset everything.
That's cool. I kind of figured. :D
I clear my browser's history every time I get off, so I have to re-enter my name and link every time I get on. And, sometimes I'm too lazy. So, yep. I understand. high five
In fanfics, I can't say I hate incest. At the same time I don't hate it either. It depends on the type of pairing (I generally avoid slash), the characters of the pairing and the quality of the work (then again, we search for quality in any category don't we?)
In Naruto i cannot see, how incest is canonwise possible. Even in AU fics I am not much a fan of NejixHinata (they are first cousins) or any other incest pairing for that matter, and haven't read any fic on it. I simply can't see Neji and Hinata with all the NarutoxHinata and NejixTenten hints in canon. However i may put up to it if the work is of good quality. For example, Long Live the Queen (by: tsubaki-hana, www.fanfiction.net/s/3062570) is a MikotoxItachi oneshot. It is a beautiful piece of work, which is why i read it, even though it is a mother-son incest.
I know, i kno, don't start calling me sick or crazy. I read it because it was good. I assure you.
Sorry guys. I think my first line came out wrong. It should have something like
" I can't say i hate incest. At same time I don't obsess it over it either" Sorry again.
Anyway, back to the topic.
I don't know if there are any Yu Yu Hakusho fans here or not. But anyway, I would like to state that i like the bro-sis incest pairing HieixYukina in Yu Yu Hakusho. Apparantly that pairing ranks alongside NaruHina and SasuHina as my most favourite pairing.
The reason being, I can logically imagine them together. For those not aware of it, Yukina is Hiei's twin sister and she is not aware of them being siblings. Hiei actually is very protective of her and promised her to search for her brother. But throughout the series he never tells her of them bein twins because of his criminal past (and probably fear of rejection). There you go. Good ingredients for a possible angsty fic with exploration of either a platonic bro-sis or incestuous relationship.
Okay, I posted earlier, and now I want to add to it now that I've read the entire thread.
As for the sibling question, I do have a sister, and I'm creeped out to even imagine doing anything incestuous -shiver- But for other people, hey, it's their life.
>>16 & >>17 I find it funny that you mention how people are almost always fine with it, because in the fandom I read/write for, that is almost always addressed. I guess I don't read other fandoms really, so I don't notice that, but in the Vocaloid one, it is very addressed. Half(or most) of the Kagamine twincest stories on there are about hiding it and how they don't want anyone to find out. It's almost a relief to find one that isn't like that now, though they do still make good stories.
Now, that is most likely addressed because one of their songs (Vocaloid is a computer program with characters you use to make songs-in case you didn't know) can easily be interpreted as that.
I'll end my random explanation of a random fandom that probably no one here knows (very well anyway) now. ^^
~Chika
The thread has returned? Wow.
Just reading through it and I have to admit as I've grown I can safely admit that I don't hate incest as long as it's male/male -chuckle-
After all when it's male/female it normally ends up in pregnancy or something but if they can have the smarts to use contreception(sp? what?) then I don't mind.
Fem/Fem kind creeps me out anyway D':
I've finally read OHSHC and it's funny as heck, I also read a fanfiction of where they make Kaoru or Hikaru say "Why would somebody pair up two equally handsome and sexy twins like ourselves!" well... For that reason XD.
I can understand why people don't like it though.
>>126 - I've heard that the twincest is popular over in that fandom. Vocaloid seems like a fandom where a lot of free interpretation can come into play.
Insest can also be an interesting subject when two people don't know they are related, but it can also be scary. Mmm... scary isn't really the word I am looking for. I just don't like when it is brushed off as ho-hum. I mean, surely people should have a reaction of some kind.
>>128 - Yeah, none of the characters really have a set personality or anything. There are just fan interpretations of everything. But you're right, it's really popular ^^;
I agree. People aren't just like, "Okay, that's interesting. But I don't really care, have fun ^^." That's just not realistic.
~Chika
>>129 or better yet "Uhm, we're related", "GREAT! That's even better!" "O_o;" -shot for N!nt3nd0! references...-
I agree with a reaction of sorts, I mean if you're going out with somebody only to find out that you're distant brother/sister brother/brother sister/siister tentaclemonster/morpheublob, then y'know a reaction is always expected, even just surprise... I mean shock would be the first thing, but if they've been separated there may not be much of a reaction as they've met as lovers...
Yeah, I'm blabbling.
-shot-
>>130 It's okay, blabbling (I like that word xD) is fun!
Yeah, sure they might be okay with it after a little, but probably not right away. That's if they find out later though. What if they know they're related though and don't know what to do? That's how it usually is written in the Vocaloid fandom. They know they're twins (or whatever) and aren't sure what to do. But they especially don't want anyone to know. That's more realistic than, "Hey, mom dad. We're going out now." "Okay, good for you kids! Congratulations!" Though now that I think of it, that could make a good crack fic lol
~Chika
I used to dislike incest a lot. It was gross and squicky. Then I found a certain manga that had a brother-sister twin pairing in it. Throughout the story, the two of them have such terrible things happen to them, awful things, and there's no one they can depend on for help. They can't open their hearts to anyone but each other, so who else could they possibly grow to love? By the end, I just wanted them to finally be happy! They went through so much, they deserved it!
And so now I think incest isn't all that bad anymore ^^
>>132 It's funny how manga/anime/fanfiction can make you more accepting of things huh? I'm kinda curious about what manga you're talking about though ^^;
I never really thought anything about incest before, but I can say I didn't really like it much. Though the incest fics I found by accident almost facsinated me because it was so strange in my opinion. And now because of the Vocaloid fandom, it actually interests me ^^; Strange how things can just change your opinion huh?
~Chika
>>133 It sure is strange. Looking at it from their point of view really makes you sympathetic- or interested at the very least. I'm still not very accepting of most incest pairings, though- they have to have special circumstances to grab me.
The manga I was talking about is 'Phantom Wizard' by Ohmori Aoi, by the way. Its not a series that's for everyone, but its one of my personal favorites ^^
One of the fanfics that really made me cry with tears coming is 'Accidental Companion', a Naruto fic, by Windschild8178. Here's the link for it: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5745473/1/Accidental_Companions
Sorry, posted the previous post in a wrong forum. Um, I don't exactly mind incest, then again, I haven't read into it much. I was only able to read some of those stories that contain incest are from games, animes and mangas.
>>130 - I don't buy into there being no reaction at all though. And to simply go on being together without thinking about certain things and talking things through.
>>132 - I actually get what you are saying there, and I don't mind a well written fanfic along those lines, even if I don't agree with insest as being a really good thing, I mean, what with inbreeding and such. However, as I've said, most insest fanfics I've come across aren't that way.
>>313 blabbling is very fun... in short doses xD
Ah, now somebody needs to write that very crack fic, and my life is one bit more complete -lays back on bed-
for me it depends on how close the relationship is. i personally disagree with some but i just won't read it, i don't go around waving torches in the faces of people who do. i mean, hsitorically, people used to marry their first cousins, for pete's sake. i think father/daughter and mother/son is absolutely WRONG and a crime warranting major punishment, as far as im concerned.
>>139 say the father and daughter were separated and never knew about each others existance, then when they fall in love they know but still love each other and just couldn't see the other as being father/daughter. Then what? -P.S This is a true story.-
>>134 Yeah, from outside, most people are like, "How could they even think it's a possibility!?" but when you see their point of view, it almost makes more sense huh? Yeah, I've really only got one I support. And they're not even considered related all the time, though lots of times they are. Vocaloid is weird like that.
I read a summary-thing of it. Magic and stuff huh, I like magic. I may read it.
>>137 Yeah, I've seen a bunch that aren't written well, but you can find some pretty good ones. Anything Adolescence(one of their songs) based really, though sometimes the wording is... Strange. -shrug-
>>138 Heh, what's funny is that I've found multiple ones like that, and they're not considered crack fics.
>>139 I agree that that kind of incest kinda creeps me out, though I've heard of the story >>140 put up as well. I say that I'm a little more accepting if they didn't know beforehand. Then again, I may just not like it cause it seems pedophile-ish in my opinion.
~Chika
>>141 - There are two pairings in Bleach that I have unusual reasons for disliking, and those are Rangiku/Toshiro and Gin/Toshiro. There is the pedo factor, but I also write a lot of Gin+Ran=Toshiro. In the same tolkien I know someone who likes Rangiku/Toshiro who finds Gin+Ran=Toshiro bizare due to their like of the pairing.
I don't care how well you can make it work, it's sick and wrong. I know in some cultures, it's considered okay, but that doesn't make it any more wrong in my eyes.
>>144 - I don't think anyone in this thread would disagree with you on insest being sick and wrong. I mean, we've got the genetics issue for one thing. Making insest work in fanfiction is honestly not about making something sick and wrong seem all right either. That is actually what makes it not work. Making it work is about presenting a story dealing with a serious issue, kind of like with rape fics. Aka, it isn't meant to glorify it, but simply adress the issue.
>>145 This my friends, is why I love this website and keep returning. Not only are there people here who have common sense, but also can enlighten others. Without being a douche.
>>144 plus I don't get how it's "sick and wrong". Like >>145 said there's the genetics issue with the whole screwed up kids, but if they're of the same gender (or go steady for the matter, and don't try to reproduce) then I'm perfectly fine with it. You can't control who you love.
I've sort of gone into incest with one of my fics because it's based off the 'Turn of the Screw' novella. It isn't particularly fun to write, but people have written in saying they kinda find it sexy. I 'unno, the point was it was meant to be creepy and kind of wrong. But I'm continuing with it anyway.
On average, I don't liek incest. It's a cultural thing, I've been bought up taught that it's wrong, therefore I don't like it. Also, I saw a documentry on kids whose parents were too closely related and it actually made me cry. The problems they can be born with are horrific. As Elkkun said, it's harder to give homosexual incest pairings a hard time as they aren't actually hurting anyone.
I realised this in writing my own story as one of the boys asks wo they are hurting by doing what they are, and my other character I realised, had nmothing to say because I couldn't think of an argument against it.
>>145 and 146 Hm... you guys have very good points, actually.
Now I wish I could edit/delete posts because I feel like I'm an idiot for writing post number 144 and want to remove it because of my ignorance.
>>149, we all make mistakes and misjudgements. It's how we learn (:
>>149 - As >>150 said basically. You're actually a lot better then some of the people who we've had on here.
We actually had at one point a thread going where we discussed how we disliked how the really bad fanfics got a lot of good reviews and no one calling them for it and how a lot of the good fanfics go unnoticed.
Well, one of the kiddos I critiqued came and replied to that thread and said they basically agreed, then tried blaming me for the reason why they deleted and stopped writing one of their fanfics. They told me I should send such stuff via PM.
And that is when I flat out told them, that isn't what the review system is for and that if they really agreed with what everyone had been saying in said thread, they would understand that reviews were something earned.
I don't think we heard back from that person on the forums threads after that. Not that I wouldn't have minded them staying nor did I mind them voicing their opinion about things, it's just... contradicting yourself like that is honestly bad.
>>151 To be fair, reviewing was made to tell authors new and old, their pro's and con's of stories. If they can't take it, don't bother and possibly improve quicker.
Anyway, back on topic :'D
I can't really think of anything else to say ^^;
>>146 I agree with that top statement ^^
Yeah, there's the genetic issue. But if they don't have kids then that shouldn't be a problem, like homosexual ones. Just felt like putting that out there, cause what I write (and read) isn't yaoi or yuri ^^; I understand where you're coming from though, it makes sense. I'm just not much of a yaoi/yuri fan, so that's probably why I don't read it ^^.
Yeah, that's all I got. xD
~Chika
>>154
In my opinion, everything you put down right there makes complete sense, and I agree. That was a great way to put it! I can't relate to any of those things either, but I can tell it's real. I have a friend who's a lesbian, and she confides in me about her problems. I know she's 'for real'. I've noticed people saying people do things like that just for show, and maybe some do. But on topics of (consensual) incest, gays, lesbians, and all them, I say don't shun them. Learn to be accepting! xD
Seriously though, I really like the way you put everything up there. It's great.
~Chika
>>127 Haha, yes to the male/male (although I'd take that a step further and say ONLY two consenting adult brothers who are of reasonable age difference).
But in all seriousness, male/female and fem/fem incest pairs really make me squirm (the latter mainly because I'm not much of a fan of femslash). As a lot of people here have mentioned multiple times while I was gone, the main thing that's often worrisome about this is the genetic defects that would happen to any child born out of these relationships. That's one of the main reasons that incest is seen as taboo. (That doesn't even include the fact that it's your own family you're talking about having a "relationship" with.)
Otherwise, I have this mindset of, "How does this harm anyone? Ignore it if it rubs you the wrong way." (You know, AFTER I calm down from my own shock.) As one other person put it earlier, I find it amazing what fanfiction seems to make me tolerant to. First it was slash/yaoi, and now this apparently, but not to the same extent.
(In fact, an example of this newfound "tolerance" for me is the fact that I just suddenly came up with two brother characters less than a week ago - meaning that they literally just popped into my head - and one of them has secret and obviously unrequited romantic love for the other. It was really weird at first, but then it helped me to explain why the guy was so INSANELY LOYAL to the older brother.)
>>156 Yeah, I have twins in the same sense... dammit. I don't mind family curiousity between brothers, IDK in my mind I find it cute when I pair two of my brother characters, especially the innocent naive one, with one of the more mature ones (he's not too mature in the sense of elderlyness, more of mature within state of mind...) X) IDK, I just find it cute.
>155 Haha, thank you. :)
You summed it all up rather nicely, though: "Learn to be accepting." :)
>>157 I think it just happens for me partially because I like making my characters miserable. Take my character for example: He, the younger brother, was raised away from his older brother and dad and lived with a slightly fanatical Christian mom. He didn't become as devout as her (because she was so terrifying that he didn't want to be like her), but when he starts falling in love with his brother, he starts feeling extremely guilty about it partly because of his upbringing. Cue the angst, especially when his older brother ends up really loving a girl he meets in college.
So yeah, that's one reason why I would put in incest - to make characters mentally suffer.
(And it doesn't help me that I accidentally made them just plain gorgeous.) blushes like crazy.
>>159 X3 I kinda make characters like that ;u; I love torturing my character Hiko sreiously I need to edit his past or something. His Biological father died when he was three, he grew up with his Mother, then his Mum meets somebody she loves, he kills her when Hiko's 10, During that time he's pretty much abused, then his dad gets sent to jail for murder, and Hiko gets put in an asylum for cutting up his dad... as the police came, While in the asylum he meets a friend who also likes to cut stuff up, then after a while when Hiko calms down he's allowed back into society, but he's unfortunately now family-less, so he's adopted by a promiscuous family he then meets somebody who isn't affected by his craziness and he falls in uh..."love" with this kid. ;n;
DAMN WHY HIKO. WHY?!
I need to change the kids backstory.
Then there's the angsty side of his "lover" where his mother is deeply religious and so shuns him for loving another man. His life is hell.
Hurray for abusive relationships DX, it's good Hiko's part Masochist...
>>160 I believe this stamp would be perfect for us, then: http://fav.me/d2l0ncz
But geez, I seem to always like finding ways to make my characters suffer. It's just gotten to the point where my characters (i.e., Robert, the little brother character I've been talking about) are coming in to my head with a trait that will obviously be used to put in a lot of angst for them. In other words, incest is just another way that I can make tragedy happen for my poor OCs. D:
>>161 You made me laugh, quite out loud xD. "Do you draw people in with a really sweet, likable, funny character...and then reveal that you tortured the hell out of them in their history?" Why yes... Yes I do..
And since they're so CLOSE...It just makes it worse! D:
>>163, GLaD to make you entertained Chika~. I'm alright with M/F incest, as long as they go steady. c:
>>163 lol, I feel oddly special now. XD
But really for me, I'd really be saying that if there were to be a brother-sister incest couple going on, make sure that they don't get pregnant. I'd get freaked out then (mainly for the kid) if that happened.
PS
>>162 But that just makes it all the more fun, rofl! XD
>>166 we're so evil >:3...I think the only character I haven't been nasty to is-- Oh wait no... Uhm... -tries to think of a character she /hasn't/ put through some form of sadness/torture...- I'm finding this difficult.... D:
Had it forced on me as a child in real life. Also, came out of the closet to my alcoholic-radical-Christian mother, simply out of hating dishonesty, and then had my mother try to convince my sister that I was going to rape both of them (sister was thankfully unconvinced). I don't go for incest, but I'd say the pursuer portrayed as horrible and the pursuee fearful and ending up irreversibly traumatised would be a fair portrayal. I once saw an advertisement for a drama called "I'm In Love With My Little Sister", and (apparently based off an anime) my eyes went round. I don't see how such a thing can be portrayed that way...unless they're not really related. Like, mother takes in cute girl, boy likes cute girl from back at school, family drama time. If it's like that I would hardly call it incest. I actually have a fic where something...a little more complicated than that is about to be dealt with. Basically, (Most of my characters that are coupled are same sex because "Write What You Know"), two characters meet, fall in love. Can't get an RDP yet, but plan to. Father of one is with trans woman. She was still pre-op, they couldn't marry. Her cousin suddenly decides to take in the other who is newly orphaned. The trans woman just got the surgery, meaning she can marry her partner. Now the two sons met before, but...well, do I want to spoil in the slightly possible chance anyone knows this story...? No. But my point is, stuff like that is...well, left field. But if you have natural/raised as siblings their whole life characters slashed, that's... and if it's a parent/uncle/aunt/grandparent...I can't even touch that, at least without the portrayal of the pursuer being evil, and ABSOLUTELY NOT if the pursuee LIKES IT. I ABHOR all "she/he-liked-it" in ANY work with regards to rape. In fact, seeing this has now chased me away from anything with "rape" in the description. NO VICTIM ENJOYS RAPE, or it would be called "consensual sex" and another thing entirely, even though incestual rape could be a very good suiri (English?), etc, story. But boy meets cute girl, boy dates cute girl, cute girl suddenly gets taken in by boy's mom, shit hits the fan, I'd go for that. Be interesting to see how that plays out. Be the only type of incest I'd go for.
Ohh, long rant with many tangents...btw, I'm trying to make a point as someone with real experience to hopefully help people in their writing, or at least put out enough opinion, etc., to make someone think in a different light. I do not mean to offend ^_^
>>168 Nothing against your post or anything, but I kinda ended up skipping half of it because it had no flipping paragraphs. Everytime you start a new subject it's a paragraph, even if it's on the same topic, you went from you life, to writing ideas, to rape. All in one paragraph.
F-ck that annoys me -endpetpeeve-.
I go for incest in male pairings, like discussed before c: even if they're born by the same mother. Incest isn't exactly uncommon in fiction (orinreallifeforthatmatter)
There are actually some incest pairings I really like (such as Dave/Bro from Homestuck), and I hate myself for liking them.
>>170 - You're the first other Homestuck fan I've found on here! (Hi!) Personally I'm not really one for the Dave/Bro pairing, though I've read a couple which I kind of liked; I do have a fondness for Rose/Dave and was vaguely disappoint as a result of those pesky ecto-shenanigans.
At least there's no concerns about that sort of thing with the trolls.
Don't think I've ever read any incest fic.
I don't diss incest. I'm with the whole "love is love" thing. I have no other argument. I only see it as wrong, and I'm agreeing with the others here, if it's not consensual. Those stories should end sad rather than the happy endings they usually receive [in the nonconsensual 'cest fics I've read.]
... I don't really have anything else to say. I guess I'll just close with "love is blind." You cannot help who you fall in love with even if it frowned upon by society.
Though I have never read any incest fics - I don't agree with it, but I also don't rag on anyone for writing/reading it - I did read 'The Flowers in the Attic' and it's three sequels (Dollanganger series) by V. C. Andrews which, after two husbands, alot of girlfriends and a bit of revenge, features a brother and sister who end up living as husband and wife.
The idea of it deeply disturbed me - still does for that matter - but the way it was portrayed and explained made a strange amount of sense to be. Also, I've watched a few documentaries/TV shows about brothers and sisters living as husband and wife.
So, I'll simply say that while I don't agree with it and don't want to read it, I don't begrudge anyone writing it because it's a free country and, after all, this is all FICTION.
Incest is ILLEGAL, and, on a side note: As a Christian I believe that homoerotic fanfiction(or any homoerotic material) is just wrong.

>>177 Sexless from marriage IS wrong!! Poor husband... XD (I found that funnier than I should have)
And on that note (well, actually, no, that was a bit random) there are a few states in the US which allow cousin marriages, as well as places in Europe and the Middle East. And you know, from a religious standpoint, for cousins it is A-OK!! Here's a wiki article if anyone wishes to expand their knowledge of a socially awkward subject. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_marriage
I live in a state that allows cousins to get married, but it still just seems wrong. Abstaining from sex until marriage does vary by religion and what the law is where you are. didn't contradict that. I merely said that the religion I am a part of does not allow it. But Where I live, By both my religion, and state laws, incest between siblings in general is illegal and just wrong. (side note: same sex marriage is illegal here.)
I can't think of any religion off the top of my head that promotes sex before marriage. Likewise I'm not sure there are that many laws against it unless you're talking about countries run by their religion.
I also fear we are drifting off the topic. Many posts have said they are OK with the idea of same sex siblings doing their thing because they won't have children from it, is that what you were talking about? >>176 (about the homoerotic material)
My personal mention of "sexless before marriage" was in direct response to homo-eroticism, pretty much stating under a banner of "different strokes for different folks". Incest falls under that. Though I personally wouldn't go for incest, there are some fiction I've read that addresses it. Similarly, I have no interest in other women, but it comes to pass that a lesbian couple will appear in a story I like.
Honestly, the only real issue I see is purely in the terms of genes; diminishing the pool is bad, mmkay. Other than that? None of my business.
Gosh just finished reading through this thread and totally had to comment.
Personally im not fussed about incest as long as it is between two consenting adults, although i could never imagine doing it myself, and i am and only child but i don't think that has made a difference to my opinion, and i have also read some incest fanfiction (HP twincest, SPN wincest) and to be honest enjoy it and find the whole idea and interesting concept.
But i REALLY have to ask cause this is a question that has been bugging me for awhile but i really don't want to sound like and idiot and i don't want to be patronised or mocked and i do have a GCSE level (which is probably a pretty basic level) understanding of biology and genetics. so here it is
So if a brother and a sister who have no diseases at all, there both perfectly healthy, and they have a baby together that baby shouldn't be born any genetic defects or disaeses right? or no is that not the case because it seems like as though no matter what if a baby is born from incest then there will be something wrong with it and i don't get how that can be the case, i get that there would more likely be some wrong with it or it would more like get a hereditary disease.
Any i hope what i have said makes sense and some kind person will answer my query.

You are correct. That baby should have no genetic health issues as long as both parents are clean (usually as long as at least one parent is clean, actually, depending on how recessive the genes we're talking about are). There is still a problem that, if this somehow became a wide-spread trend, that the gene pool could stagnate and bad things happen if a species doesn't have genetic variation. However, in a society like ours where incest is fairly rare, this isn't going to be an issue any time soon.
The bad stuff involving genetics usually happens when children born of an incestuous relationship become incestuous themselves. Let's take the olden-day families of nobility for example- they wanted to keep their bloodlines 'pure' so they often married cousin-to-cousin, and in more extreme cases sibling to sibling. This is why there are many cases of frailty and poor health in these families, as well as mental diseases leading to madness.
But for two children born from parents who were not related to have an incestuous relationship, the chances of their children having any abnormalities physically or mentally is low.
I just want to point out that I always mentally facepalm whenever people say
"and from a relgious standpoint: [insert something about homosexuals here]" X) Simply because the bible says nothing about homosexuality being wrong and/or bad. There's a video on youtube about it, I've linked it in my name. JSYK.
To be honest, I'm a bit of a strange person but when it's teenagers consenting each other about it (especially young teenagers, perhaps 13-15? XD...oi I'm only young myself) it makes me feel fluffy. It could be because they're of around my age (if not younger) and curiosity is something that just gets to me- I find it cute at most xD.
Twincest is something I've had going on for a while- THANK YOU OHSHC- because...IDK xD it's just something that floats my boat.
That's pretty much all I wanted to say, but it's nice to see that people are realising it's pretty much only fiction, and shouldn't be taken too seriously- Unless the author's just doing it wrong.
Especially if it's non-con ¬_¬;
