I'd just like to share mine with all of you. My two main original characters are from my Tintin fanfiction 'The New Detective' and 'The Hexed Legend' (still in progress).

Grey owns a beagle named Horatio, named after her favourite Shakespeare character.

I would write about his own job but I haven’t given him one because there isn’t one that suits him and it wouldn’t fit into the story.

Original characters are usually something I avoid in case of Mary-Sues, but the fic I had needed another one.
Name: Unknown, though he was named 'Larry' to tease him.

With all of his kind, he was locked up at an early age for his powers. He escaped eventually and that's where his sheer amount of bed luck kicks in.
I didn't want a Mary Sue, so I gave him a silly name to counter his power (time-travel, which he has no control over) and made him terrified of what was going on around him while the main characters ran about doing things.
I was quite proud of him actually, before I killed him off horribly :D

Personality: Halath has a strong personality, kind, but strong. He is a bit headstrong, a little reckless, but he knows his place most of the time. As the son of the chief, he is supposed to be next in line. Halath does not like this idea and is a bit rebellious to it. He has argued with his father many times, but they have a basic understanding with each other. Seeking a bit of space from the village elders, he if often found assisting the young ones, often helping them gather roots, berries, and the such while keeping an eye on them. When the village comes under attack, Halath, despite his lack of magic is still one of the first to charge. He has a few other duties beside hunting, defending the village, and keeping watch, and while he may not like them all, he will attempt to get them done in a timely manner. Being the partial rebel that he is, he prefers to hunt alone or in very small groups. With his lack of magic, he deems this his own way of proving his worth to the other males, some of which do look down on him greatly. In additional to his lone hunts, he also pushes his body as far as he can to prove himself. Another fact to anger other males of his generation is the fact that most of the females of the generation have taken a strong liking to him. While there are a few who seek him because be is to be the next chief, most find his partial rebellious personality to their liking. Also, the fact that he trains beside them has gained him some considerable respect among most of the females in the entire tribe that very few males are given. There are times when they have fought among themselves when he asks for a sparring partner. He just shrugs this off and looks elsewhere for a sparring partner most of the time lacking the interest of looking for a possible mate. His father and mother both have began hinting to him however that now would be a prime time to start looking for his mate who will share his responsibilities of leading the village when he becomes chief. Unlike most of the tribe, he see no problem talking with the few Exiles in the area, asking for their advice at times and seeking their wisdom.

In his current life, Thomas is a unique fellow like he has always been, but thanks to the way the world has been over the past hundred years, things have become much easier for him in some senses. He is now able to freely travel as a trainer without many questioning his life style. With his gifts, Thomas tends to travel alone mostly to hide these gifts, but also it makes it a lot easier for him to get around when being called upon to protect the legendaries. Being the last of his kind, it now falls on him and him alone to protect them all as the need arises and this has been a strain on him before, but he has gotten used to his life style. Having reincarnated a short 18 years ago, he is now once again forced to cut all ties with the family that had raised him last so that he can keep his secret just that, a secret.

I usually use OCs in most of my fics, the two that come straight to my mind are for my Supernatural and Heroes fanfics.
Supernatural:
Shadow - black hair, one blue eye and one eye that changes colour. Family - mother (deceased), father (deceased), theo - brother (deceased), tim - brother.
Shadow is a half vampire/half mortal, who prevously travelled around with a Coven of vampires until one of them attacked her and tried to turn her. It failed, resulting in what she is now. She broke away from them, cutting off the ties, and found her younger brother. They now travel around together, and in a small town she meets Dean and Sam, and struggles to keep her identity hidden from them.
Shadow's backstory is actually a lot more complicated than that, but that's all that is really relevant to Blood Suckers.
Heroes:
Melinda - changes appearence at will.
Melinda's parents were killed when she was very young, as a result she was put into a home. She always felt she was different from the other children, but when she is a bit older she discovers why. She has an ability, and goes to a school for 'EA's, (Evolutionary Advanced Human Beings).
I have a created character from my fanfic I Am The Future, Mirai Nagato (I might change the title to The Future of Haruhi Suzumiya soon) in the Haruhi Suzumiya Series category (anime)
The character is Kyon and Yuki's artificial daughter who is half human, half alien, Mirai Akane Nagato.
It's interesting to give Yuki a bit more emotion, and it's a lot of fun to make up situations in which she encounters with the other members of the club they're in, the SOS Brigade.
I have two main OCs that I use in my story, Friendship, Love and Rivalry:
Nika Rowan, now 19, she is the Sinnoh Champ. Has dark green/blue hair and hazel eyes, also likes to wear purple and red. Generally cheerful, but can be argumentive. Is very impatient when it comes to queues and often skips them. Eats golden syrup excessively, often in porridge.
Jasmine Rowan, now 22, she is the Kanto Champ and Nika's sister. Has very dark hair, with a slight green/blue tinge and brown eyes, loves to wear capes like her friend Lance of the Elite Four. Like her sister she is cheerful, but much more mellowed. Stubborn and sarcastic and quite often irritable. Will do to extremes to deny people's accusations that she is in a romantic relationship with Lance.
There are a couple of other slightly less important characters, but these are more commonly featured.
Usually what I do with character's is I think of a basic personality and appearence, and I edit them to suit the fandom. Even though I do this, I have so many characters, I can't list them all. I'll say my current favourite:
Name: Mercy Millare. She actually changes her name, because she thinks she 'grows out of them'. Her birth name is Bertha.
Age: 8-10
Appearence: Blonde hair, Brown eyes, nothing special. She's very pale, like the rest of her family.
Other: Like most of my characters, she is 'special needs'. She has Synaesthesia, and sees colours when noises are made. She is usually very quiet and whispers, and the only noise/colour she truly likes are ones made by a piano. I'm sure you can now guess, she plays the piano. She hates babies and other children.
I only have two of any real interest, both of whom appeared to me in a dream. They're villains, but a little less one-dimensional than most of mine.
Gary Trouble (blame my subconscious for the name!) is an ex-hero turned villain turned hero, and his wife Aurica/Golden Glider is a villain turned hero.
They got together when she captured him and proposed an alliance in classic femme fatale fashion ... but in this case the hero accepted the proposal.
They ended up having a child, putting her up for adoption, and then seeking out help from existing superheroes when the child was kidnapped.
Eventually they tired of being on the lam and ended up trying the hero gig together.

Catherine is a vampire of noble birth. The Strange clan pride themselves on their ruthlessness, and while Catherine doesn't exactly live up to their standards when it comes to mindless violence, she does lack a conscience.

FYI, I hate Twilight. The fact that she is 17 years old and is also v. young (to me, 108 for a vampire is very young) is in no way related to Edward bloody Cullen.

Appearance: She has thigh length brown hair, blue eyes and pale skin. And wears the same black shirt, jogging bottoms (google it if you're confused by my English-ness) and trainers all the time.

Lucretia is Catherine's mother. She doesn't know who the father is, and she doesn't care either. While Lucretia does live up to their family's standards of viciousness, her family hate her for her violence is directed at them as well as mortals.

684 years old... now THATS what I call a vampire.
Right, when vampires (the way I write them at least) have children, the child is human until they die. So Lucretia gave birth to Catherine, and she aged normally as normal humans do, until she died at age 17. Then she became a vampire.
She was born on December 12th 1325 and drowned herself on Christmas Day, 1350. No one knows she killed herself, including Catherine. It's just one of the secrets she likes to have.

Appearance: She has short dirty blonde hair and one blue eye. The other is green. Her left eye (the green one) is the wrong colour because of a long, jagged red scar that runs from her forehead to he chin, slightly to the left of her nose. As such, her green eye is useless, so she relies on her blue eye to see. Again, she has never told anyone how she got this scar.
Like Catherine, she is fond of black but she extends her wardrobe occasionally to blood red.
honnestly it's better to just read my sotry.... i created WAY too many in my first story. getting better with practice though. but yeah i have over 100 characters total in the entire story! i look back and often wonder what i was doing. but yeah good luck if you do take the time to look at the inuyasha story... the naruto one is better but still has quiet a few (like 50 give or take a few). any way... i'll let those who know how to create characters add theirs. ^_^
I also have a large amount of OCs, most of them in military positions. I only placed two on here to try and keep it short. I haven't even gotten into blood types, service numbers, qualifications, divisions, it gets very precise since they are Marine commandos, even some of my anthro OCs. None of them are Mary-Sues though because they are limited by their rank and qualifications. One OC is the commanding officer and has the real authority over everyone else even though my main character is only a Marine Captain (4 ranks below a Naval Vice Admiral).

When Chris and Danielle head to Danielle's house they find Natalie still their. Overjoyed to find her younger sister safe she invites them both in, brushing past the fact that Chris is infected. Natalie's been holed up in the house for two weeks and hasn't had much weaponry experience. She gets them into plenty of trouble with her horrible accuracy but constantly keeps Chris and Danielle in check after the romance pops in.

Nira is the Sailor Neptune i created in my first ever fic (before i discovered there already was one in Sailor Moon) She's a kind heart naive princess who wants to do good but is scared of her own (psychic) powers and has a nasty habit of falling in love with someone on the bad guy's side. This story's not on the net - due discovering the real Neptune - but the story goes from her falling in love with Jedite, then later Rubeus before killing herself. In my later stories of this series her daughter takes her place in the scouts only to seem just as cursed as her mother. Nira was a really strong loving character, i really enjoyed writing these.

Shorter than his older twin brother Jase, he smiles widely to the right-hand side of his face when he's thinking mischievous thoughts, such as a prank to play on the others or how to do something better. Shorter and Smarter. Blind in his left eye in which he covers over with his hair, this eye used to be a more duller silver which was highly recognisable; now a yellowish colour.

Jase is the more hunter-like one, always was a dare-devil and usually before he does anything too stupid Jay'll stop him. When separate, be prepared for hell. Is more affectionate to his younger brother and usually kisses his forehead whenever concerned, or just wants to...Cuddle? Smiles on his left side on his face and it's usually very large when he's planning something, small smiles are usually re-assurace and middle-sized are when he's thinking...Which is usually rare to see.

Originally born on the tropical planet of Constance in the Barnard's Star system. Ryan enjoyed a great life in Whitesand, Constance's mainland capital city, although he has often visited passing floating cities, although he has never seen one larger than than a few football fields. When he was six years old, Ryan's parents were killed by a crime lord, Vidic Davik. Ryan was placed in Constance Child Services until he was 18, where he traveled to Earth and established an arms trading company hoping to find Davik. He never did, but he earned enough money to get contacts from Colt, Krinkov, and Gesabelle Armories.
In 3235, he met then-1st Lieutenant Vennettilli when he arrived for ammunition. He has been considered Chris' right hand man ever since and is extremely loyal to his friends.
I'm in the process of developing a few OC's, a couple that I plan on using for the original novel I'm planning, and one for a short multi-chap that I'm planning for fanfiction, based around a similar idea to the novel I want to write.

She's a vampire that's near enough 2000 years old. Thats a language every 20 years, when you think about it like that it really doesn't sound as much.
Does memory retention last over 2,000 years? I mean, there's new syntax, conjugation, sentence structure, as time goes on, it racks up. I'd be swamped after around fifty.
Depends on how human this vamp is, I suspect - no two stories have 'em quite the same. Photographic memory certainly better be an explicit trait, though.
I have heard cases of creatures with perfect memories, like the drell from Mass Effect. Perfect memories, right down to expressions, actions and even scents, but they live around the same as we do though.

Cool, calm and collected, Eido has grown tremendously from the experiences he had previously in his life. He is normally quiet, as all his previous friends he had before he joined the outer world (as opposed to the underworld) were not good enough to make it, and now no longer talk to him. He is unnaturally cold towards many people, as most do not spark his interest. This causes people to be unnerved, even afraid of Eido, as he has the very deep, soulful eyes, yet appears asocial to an extreme. However, Eido happens to also be adventurous and outgoing, and loves to experiment with the combined abilities he has. This has caused him to experiment with many strategies and powers before choosing a set one or two.
Background History: (again, a general history)
Eido Lonseraph was born to a vampire alpha male of his tribe and a female angel. The vampire's tribe left before Eido was born, leaving the poor mother to fend for herself, and her unborn baby. She found shelter in a male librarian's house, and the baby was born six months later. The angel mother died in child birth, but before dying, told the librarian to name the boy 'Eido Lonseraph'. Confused, the librarian agreed, and raised Eido till he was old enough to look after himself. During this period, the librarian noticed the wierd changes in the boy. He used his position to research these abnormalities, and discovered that the boy was a half vampire, half angel hybrid. He revealed this to Eido, who took it very well. Now, Eido has been searching for his true father, who he now knows is one of the vampire Coven, a society of roaming vampire tribes who help one another in times of great need. Eido has also been searching for his very purpose in life, which he finds rather annoying to discover...

Jon Callard was born in Syndey but was raised in Melbourne farther down south. His parents disliked all the traffic around Sydney and wanted something less 'technologically occupied'. Melbourne was a good place for Jon to grow up. With his high test scores, he aspired to join the United Nations Fronteir Corps, but a run-in with the law on a DUI charge ruined that prospect. Jon joined the Marines as a result.
Looking for spice, he decided to become a Helljumper and faced eight weeks of living hell. When Callard emerged, he was the epitomie of badass. He has fought on 21 worlds, earned a total of 20 medals, is qualified with both long and mid-ranged arms, and has shifted between five divisions between his twenty-year service.
ONI often sends Callard on low-profile missions. Sometimes even the Mobians call on him to undertake 'special' assignments such as espionage and even one count of assassination. Callard likes working with anthros and aliens, stating that the UNSC "needs diversity to survive".
Have a couple of OC's being 'developed' the first, is a bit odd to say the least. I was reading a Terry Pratchett book and thought 'hey everything else seems to have an opposite on the Disc. It's got whitemail for God's sake! Why when there is a personification of Death is there not one for Life...?' cue OC. Female, pretty good looking brunette with pupil-less emerald eyes but a physical requirement to live around mortals. Still developing her weaknesses.
2nd OC very early in the fic so not very deep. A female theif in Victorian London who impresses Sherlock Holmes with her skill and morals (sounds unbelievable but she only steals from rich criminals and only when she's desperate) she is headstrong and independent and has good general knowledge but couldn't keep a conversation going on any specific subject for very long. She's tall - about 5ft 8 with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.
Hrm - given that Death on the Discworld is a pretty nice guy, wouldn't it make sense that Life... isn't, so much? Would at least provide a nice subversion of the usual happy-clappy nature goddess.
Random question: why does everyone always put blood type on their OC character profiles? I don't see how it's necessary...
Good question. Actually, for the most part, blood types are pretty much useless. However, if your characters are employed in a field where it is important to know a blood type, such as a military field like mine, blood type is important so the characters can recieve new blood.
also, it looks more professional in some cases. Unless in vampire stories where it may just be a character's favorite 'flavour' if you will.
I think the main reason in most of these cases is that it is traditional in manga, as blood types are traditionally seen as being related to personality in Japan. Western writers try and mimic the custom.
Not me. I mean, it's just useful to know if you need a transfusion or replacement blood. Helps if you know as much as you can about the character.
Eh, it was on this major large character list I did. That's why all that jacked up information is there. In reality, I use maybe a third of that each time I sign-up, and that's always the same stuff.

Personality: Ever watchful of the area around him, James prefers to play the role of the shadow. Although he has inherited a massive some of money recently, James does not flaunt it refusing to draw attention to himself. A dark past shared by his traveling companions has led him down a darker road in life and while he may seek to work for a better world, he has little use for laws. Kind, closed, but still open in public, James feels a bit out of place. He knows how to behave and work in society, but he just doesn’t feel right surrounded by people at every turn. Still, he takes his time, helps out if he sees someone in real need, and even tries to have some fun. Once the sun sets however or he is alone with friends, he opens up. With a massive set of suppressed memories, James appears to be doing the best out of the group he use to travel with. While all of them quickly go quiet and sad when the topic of what lead them to become what they are, James does his best to down right ignore it, hiding it for the most part dealing with his issues concerning those times in secret and by himself. There are subtle changes in his mood though that do take place when mentions of these times are brought him, namely his zoning out, quiet manor, and selective speech. Overall though, James is always looking to push himself further and while he may not be stronger then the average person of his age, his flexibility and general intelligence with his knack of improvising allows him to act quickly and effectively. A thief by nature, he is always looking for the next big challenge. Should he find others in real need however, he will forfeit his stash to assist them. In the end, his odd set of morals of ignoring the laws, yet helping the needy has dealt him a slightly harder then usual life style. None can argue however that James choose this hard style himself and he would see it through.
Areas of expertise: James relies heavily on stealth, deception, and mind games. In combination with the group he works, they can make a single person appear as twenty, make it look as though the one person is far from human, and even make it appear as though they were ghosts. James alone however is still a great thief, but he lacks the high tech aspects of the job knowing little about the newer security systems in place.
Clothing Preferences: loose fitting, darker colors. Shorts and a T-Shirt most of the time, but also knows how to dress up in proper attire for select gatherings, namely those involving the company.

Allow me to explain: in my series, Earth and Mobius encounter each other due to a jump accident involving a Chaos Emerald in close proximity of a supercarrier. The two universes managed to secure transit and because of a massive military mobilization on the part of Kintobor, the two factions signed a Unified Defense Contract, stating that military forces from both sides have the opportunity to allow soldiers from from the Royal Armed Forces (RAF), to join the UNSC since the UNSC has ships and MAC cannons to protect from external threats.
Thousands of Mobian soldiers jumped at the opportunity, but others are xenophobic towards the Humans. Lucas was one of the minority. He joined the ODSTs out of accident (because of unfamiliarity with Human military branches). He's a techie. He's not even the main focus of the spinoff. Callard is. Lucas just serves as a tool to show that the squad is diverse (Consists of Australian, British, Mexican, Mobian, Canadian, and Draconian (another planet)), and reinforces the value of acceptance in Human/Mobian relations. I point this out in the Mobian article of the Codex.

Well, it does to the British in real life. I do my homework, don't worry! The Air Force is the Royal Air Command Corps (RACC) in my books, but the Marines are broadened to a planet-wide force, The Mobian Marine Corps (MNMC)
The Royal Armed Forces do not exist in canon, they are completely fanon. The world is very realistic, no cartoon physics or...odd hair colors like in the comics.
I had a feeling people would have trouble with this, same thing for their being a real UNSC, The United Nations Security Council, which also is mentioned very briefly at the end of one of my works.

@Chris- This whole thread is rather redundant, tbh; people are writing out lists that nobody else cares about, and then wandering off on their merry way. Yours was just the worst for too much detail in that respect. It may be 'professional' to know these things about your character, but who here honestly wants or needs to know that the guy weighs exactly 157lbs? As a sci-fi fan, unnecessary stats are the bane of my reading life.

Backstory: 'Laura' lived in our timeline, and was proficient in Taekwando until one day Zuo Ci - an elderly oracle - transported her back in time to Ancient China in 208 AD, where she became Su Zhi. After an... eventful first battle with her new friend, Gan Ning against Wu, she is captured and joins them. From then on, it's a constant struggle to protect her friends and values, and to try and end the decades long war over who the next ruler of China will be, which isn't resolved yet in the story.
Perhaps, once all this is over, she might get the chance to return home again...
Weapons: Dual gauntlet-blades and Clackers - 2 metal balls connected by a thin piece of chain. Bloody lethal in the wrong hands, or Su's.
Other schtick: She has a tendency to go overboard with retribution, and a huge spontaneous streak in her. Too determined and stubborn for her own good. Tried to throw herself off the roof after she was nearly raped by a stable boy, and walked into a lake (accidentally) when Ling Tong was suddenly called away. Will go bat-shit psycho on whoever, say, cripples her husband. But that's for another chapter... >:D
