Why did you start writing fanfiction, and why do you still write? (139)

1 Name: Kylara Kitsune : 2009-11-04 06:27 ID:LcrLJZ7b

Writing fanfiction, for me, began as a challenge to myself. I'd been lurking on ff.net for years, and one day at uni I decided I'd read one too many "stories" that was appallingly bad. It wasn't the idea that was poor, it was the quality of the writing - no punctuation, no paragraphs, even the characters' names were spelled wrong. If I couldn't do better, I decided, I had no right to be criticising, and I should just leave the site alone before I threw something at the computer.

So I wrote what was intended to be a one-shot, people liked it, and it turned into my first multi-chapter story, and even spawned a prequel.

Since then, I've become addicted to writing. It's helped me through the worst times of my life. I've expanded into several different fandoms, and original fiction, and though I don't have as much time to write any more, I still love it. It's a part of who I am.

Same here. I was so much interested by CSI:Miami, that suddenly one day I ended up on FF.net and I truly was amazed by what I read. I started stories of the author known as shannyfish, she's very talented. After reading so much, and discovering that there are truly bad authors with irrealistic story lines, I wanted to try it myself. In the beginning, I was barely fourteen, my English was so dramatically bad, that it got thrown back off on the more 'professional' sides. I found myself a beta, but she gave up on me. Then I found another beta, who never gave up on me and helped me grow to being the author I am now. I'm addicted to writing. Whenever I see something that I think could have been better, even if it's a show I actually don't watch, I do a load of research on it and the characters I'm going to use and write it down. I too write original fiction for FP.com, but it feels harder to do. You need to write characters' backgrounds and personality, where with fanfiction it is already there.

3 Name: Kutnerlove : 2009-11-04 08:23 ID:gMgvBp9S

I started fanfiction as young teen. I wrote a story featuring the Monkees for my bff for her birthday and have been writing ever since because I love it!

I started reading fan fiction from a very young age and it was only this year that i ever thought of writing my own. When i started i couldn't stop and in less than a few months i am working on my fourth fic already! I'm a coronation street fan fiction writer and i do it because i like the challenge. The characters are already created and you have to make sure you make the characters say and act exactly the same as they would on the show.

I've only been reading FF for about 7 months.

A friend told me she was reading it one day, I asked what it was, and she linked me.

Since then, I've been hooked on writing and reading for Harry Potter.

I love the challenge of creating new ideas and I love manipulating the characters with the challenge of trying to keep the original persona that the author created.

6th Story up now, all one shots, and working on my first full length one.

I'm all excited!!!!!!!

Hmm, well up until June, I don't even know FF.net existed. I was looking up Pokéshipping on the internet (I didn't know what shippings were either) and accidentally clicked on a forum where someone had posted a link for a one-shot on FF.net, I decided to read it and soon uncovered the entirety of FF.net and before long I started writing too. And I still write because it is fun and I can develop my English skills and my imagination more.

ohh man!

i was always bad with writing even in my own language let alone english.

i started reading fanfic last august.
i was searching for H&M stuff on the net and i found about ff. i read couple of lemons [yeah i went for the hardcore first :P]
then i started reading some multichaptered fics.
one AMAZING author was enough to have me hood. AprilEangle-sensei.

she is the most amazing author ever and she is also my IDOL.

after reading her fic i wanted to write my own. so i picked up the pen i posted my first fic at late december last year.
and i got some really good reviews. ppl liked it and that gave me thr strength to write more.
now im up to 15 stories both one shots and multichaptered. with really good reviews and nice loyal readers.
i love writing and since i have started i cant stop. ideas come out of nowhere. and most of all out of my dreams. all my stories are based in dreams.

everything i read and write are about one and only couple. Haruka and Michiru from Sailor moon.

I write fanfiction because so many things happen in the series, but then again sometimes it's not the thing you want, so I write to make things I want to happen HAPPEN! But reviews is the thing that makes my fingers keep moving!

9 Name: e-j99 : 2009-11-04 14:40 ID:OPoZHbMw

um i got bored searched the internet and did random wiki button and ff came up.
I read the stuff for about 2 months absolutely hooked.
Then i created an account and started writing.
It's so weird but as soon as i had a site and could show people what i was writing then i got all these ideas :)
crazy stuff but i wouldn't have it any other way!

I think I write fanfictions because of my unlimeted fantasy. There are just time when I think; "how would it be when this would happen at the series?" Or stuff like that.
And I think it's just easier to 'borrow' some characters who have already an attitude - a 'face'. You know how they are and how they (could) react in some situations.

But the real reason why I write fanfictions? ... When I know it, you'll get to know it.

11 Name: Toffy : 2009-11-05 16:44 ID:Dy8zwBMH

I've been writing fanfiction for what has to be nearly seven years now - God that makes me feel old!

I started writing basically because I'd randomly gotten into roleplaying websites (whilst on neopets of all places) and the one I joined - a Digimon one - was full of such good people, people who just love to tell stories. We practically created our own world in there, so I wrote about that, the story we developed I mean. Unfortunately, I got into other writing too so that particular story is languishing on my page unfinished and unloved. It's sad really. Though I reckon I oew my relatively good grades for my English GCSEs to constant roleplaying.

But yeah, I guess the bug bit me 'cause now I'm doing an Creative and Professional Writing degree after switching from a science based one o.0'

Watching Rockman.exe, and that's how it began, just that one anime that really gave me tones of ideas that I could write about :)

Of course, I firstly created an account on ff.net and I told myself I'd never write anything, I didn't think id have the courage to show off my work because im very fussy, I don't even like showing my tutors at college my work :| So.. I just thought id only be reading, giving reviews and faving or putting some storys on alert, but then I just got this one great idea to write a fic for Rockman.exe and It only took about two days to do 5 or 6 chapters, I was that proud I uploaded it and it got me more into writing. :)

Well, my sister has been writing fanfiction for a long time and i pretty much was the brains behind the operation. i came up with most of the plots and everything like that (though if she wanted to change something and TOTALLY IGNORE ME then she of course could. and did).

After a while it occured to me that while i was really familiar wiht the concept with fanfiction i'd never even read anything other than my sisters works. SHe also shared in this strange realisation and i was set on the crash course for fanfiction addiction.

After that it just seemed that my head was teeming with ideas, ideas that i knew i wouldn't want my sister to write, and then it occured to me that i could. i started an account and i went crazy, write uber fast with whole chapters that i could update every day.

But overall, it makes me proud (and much better at english). I didn't start knowing i would only have written for Beyblade, it's just that it's not so complicated a fandom. I want to move onto other things when i'm better but for now i have the ideas and only my writers block (Henry) is there to stop me.

I used to be a massive digimon fan, and a huge Kari and TK supporter, I used to google their names together just to here praise on their pairing. The top link when I googled them was this fanfiction page, I ignored it for ages then one day I thought I'd investigate. I read it and loved it.

So I found the initial link to the homepage and began reading tons of digimon fanfiction. It wasn't long before I realized that you had to be a member to review properly. So I made my first pen name tkandkari4ever. With this user I wrote my first 2 fanfictions, but I removed one because my friends made fun of them. After I'd finished watching the digimon series I moved onto Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars. Since then I have read, reviewed and written loads. (But only got a Beta reader about a month ago)

I'm not really sure why I started to write fanfiction.

I think it's because went onto the site and began to read some of the stories of Movies and Tv Shows I liked.

Then I thought, if I'm reading all these stories why not show people what I can do and write one myself. So I did my first story and people really liked it and now I love being on it.

Originally, it was because I felt, what the hell, this could be fun. It was a hobby at first. Years later, I see that there is a huge opportunity to expand on a universe that I dreamt up when I was seven years old. Now, I write because I know that there are multiple stories to be told after I, of course, shattered an official timeline by mixing two unlikely universes together! Now I am free to dictate how it goes.

I started writing because I started reading, really. I was scared as hell to post, though, because I had major confidence issues and I seriously thought my stuff was no good. A forum buddy convinced me to post, though, and I'm so glad she did because the overwhelming postive response did wonders for my confidence. I'm starting on original stuff now, but i'll never abandom my fanfic ♥

22 Name: Lin Waddell : 2009-11-10 04:27 ID:56v58AGr

My friend was a writer on the site and got me to look over some of his chapters and dicuss plot ideas with him. This was about when I was 16. I then decided to hope on board and I've been writing ever since.
As my writing continued, I started to use it to experiment with different writing styles to what worked and to push me with my orginal fiction writing.

23 Name: Darkangelsmind : 2009-11-13 10:38 ID:ZfBXtu3F

I write fanfictions as a kinda escape from reality. sometimes i just can't be botherd with people and the best way for me to deal is to write and read fanfics. makes you forget all ur worries ;)

24 Name: Mikel Midnight : 2009-11-13 10:52 ID:bAgqogAz

I write fanfic for more than one reason, but for the most part, it's because they're stories I want to see, and the comics companies whose work I am writing about refuse to publish these stories, so I might as well write them.

25 Name: CSI-Babe1 : 2009-11-13 13:11 ID:/QMMSYoh

I write Fan Fiction because it lets you express what you really want to happen.

I've even known people to write a fan fic based on their life. A bit like a diary but the characters are already made up, it kinda gets things off your chest knowing that people will be reading it.

26 Name: Majin : 2009-11-13 13:36 ID:qmq8I5Dp

I don't write anymore, but when I did the major reason was just that I enjoyed it. I always liked (and still do like) thinking up stories and interesting ideas. I likely wouldn't have actually wrote anything out, if I didn't see some of the early Digimon fanfiction though.

27 Name: Misty1986 : 2009-11-13 19:42 ID:DLJHDeZx

I read fics on ff.net for years and was always tempted to write but never did. But this year I had a story in my head I just couldnt get out of my head. So I thought I'll write one chapter and see how I get on with reviews and stuff. I honestly thought I wont get any reviews. But the next day I was surprised with the support people gave me with only one chapter... So I continued to write.

28 Name: Nadine : 2009-11-13 21:58 ID:EvWP/um/

I was introduced to fanfiction by a friend and didnt realli get into it till i was reading harry potter, after order of the phoenix. This was also when i started thinking up what could have happened next and wrote it down... never finished it becuase the next book came out. But as i started again I got into it more and wrote a small fic of what happens after Snape and Draco run away from the scene of Dumbledores death.

I decided to reread twilight when it became so popular as i had sort of forgot about it and whilst i was rereading so many oppertunities emmerged with different relationships and i start 'My Bella'. Ive continued writting fanfiction as i get positive feedback and its enjoyable. I take as much fun thinking up the story as i do readining one.

29 Name: bezerkoid : 2009-11-14 14:41 ID:JflMkEx0

A lack of chance to be creative at my local school, and therefore a lack of an audience, made me search the web for somewhere to host my ideas. I stumbled onto fanfiction.net and discovered all the categories on the website. It wasn't quite what I had in mind, but I still check it out when I can. I write in the hope of getting constructive feedback and to twist storylines my own way.

30 Name: Pooky : 2009-11-14 17:59 ID:IctueUDV

My love for Fanfic came from a period of depression, it helped me to pull up from it. I am a much happier person and now i love to write, keeps me alive

31 Name: Gouken 20xx : 2009-11-14 18:13 ID:rxOzEW3B

I started writing fanfiction because I was terrible at writing coursework for english, but had plenty of ideas for stories.

I still have far too many I've not posted anywhere...
Far far too many.

32 Name: Bright Yellow Bumblebee : 2009-11-16 09:35 ID:s2atfC07

Personally, it was a long and boring journey.

The long and short of it was that I googled Lord of the Rings when I was younger and then I got a link for FF.net up.

After that was about 4 years of stalking and reviewing, and one day, I was really disappointed by a story that sounded in it's summary to be a lovely story but was atrocious with spelling, and the plot was full of holes.

I ended up taking that story's summary and writing my version of the story. I never actually posted this story but I found that it was a wonderful way for me to distract myself from work.

Since I am in the science area of life, I began to write fanfiction as a way to unwind and keep my creative and literary skills sharpened.

When I first posted on FF.net I was amazed and so pleased by the amount of positive feedback I received. I was touched that people read and actually enjoyed my writing enough to review. Since then, I have been writing for myself and to not let those lovely people down.

33 Name: RayRay : 2009-11-16 15:34 ID:q8JLBePU

I adore writing but I hate learning English as a subject, and having to write essays which are scrutinized an blahblahblah.

For me its a way to get away from everything, and I love seeing the results at the end, I'm really proud of some of my work over the past 6 months.

So yeah!

I started after talking to a girl for a few months, and it was coming up to her birthday, so I wrote my first fic for her. I've been unable to stop since =]

34 Name: PaddySnuffles : 2009-11-16 15:48 ID:3uYtJlBs

I've always made up stories in my head about characters from shows/books I liked ever since I was little. One day in grade eight art class, I found out that other people did the same, wrote the stories down, and shared with other people. Ever since then, I'm always reading fanfiction.

After much debating and self-nagging I finally decided to put pen to paper (or rather, keyboard to computer...) a couple years ago, after also a great deal of though of which of the many stories piling up in my head to share.

I usually write stories I'd like to read but have found none of, so that other people who may be looking for a similar story to read might enjoy my messed up kooky ideas... :)

35 Name: NopeJustMe : 2009-11-16 17:29 ID:rWoEvNA6

I've always liked writing stories and had lurked on ff.net for a long while, always feeling a little bit tempted.

Eventually I gave in and wrote my first (and completely awful!) fanfic. Ever since then I've been writing as much as possible, it's very relaxing for me and also helps me get better at my skills as I want to be a writer in the future.

36 Name: LASER : 2009-11-17 14:44 ID:FVB1mMik

Bit of a long story this but here goes...
back in the day when I used to be a full-on south park nerd I was going through some FAQs and one of the questions was "most south park fanfiction is made up of stan and kyle having sex, is this a possibility on the real show?" that really took me by surprise so first thing I did was google 'south park fanfiction' first link was to FF.net so I looked through some of the south park fics and turns out they were right. At first I was pretty disgusted by it all but then I read one story that was actually pretty good and the rest? well it's history.

the main reasons I still write are for the feedback (even though it's becoming a pretty rare thing these days) and to keep me away from naughty things like drugs =P

37 Name: Farrahmack : 2009-11-17 15:44 ID:02Bl0qWQ

Sometimes when I watch a TV. Episode I'm like this would have made it better. now when I see something that could improve I will do an alternate ending fic.

I started writing fanfictions to get away from boredom. It's my escape and it's fun.

38 Name: DragonFriend95 : 2009-11-21 12:18 ID:mRhxa7MS

I started to fantasise about TV shows WAY before I knew of fan fiction, I'd always be walking around lonered thinking up new ideas for mainly CSI and Numb3rs. Then when I was on a Numb3rs website I saw a tiny little link called fanfiction and I was intrigued so I follwed it to ff.net. Now I write almost all the time, which bugs both my mum and friends, as it's a great release for all my ideas

39 Name: SL : 2009-11-21 17:38 ID:rlpOWnXC

Like most people, I told myself stories about my favourite shows and books before I heard of fanfic - dropping my Mary-Sue self into the fantasies of course, heh heh. When I first heard of fanfic, I was actually really turned off by the idea because I thought it'd all be the same thing, author fantasies about being a part of the series.

However, I got tempted by a website I was on and ended up checking some out. The first one was... pretty poor. Definately wish fulfilment and I decided it wasn't for me. But my curiousity remained and one day, I ended up reading one really good story and one really bad one. It told me that such stories can be good, but there just weren't enough of them, so I got encouraged to try my hand at it, writing what I would like to read rather than the scenarios in my head.

I keep writing for any number of reasons. There are always new ideas, that's one thing. Writing has become a passion and it's one of the main ways I spend my down time. Plus the positive reviews boosts my self esteem! And writing fanfic is weirdly social, you end up talking to fellow authors, swapping ideas and spending far too much time on websites when you should really be writing. Like right now.

40 Name: a writer of fics : 2009-11-21 23:37 ID:e2/0XLxF

Well I had been hanging around FF.net for about three years now and after reading so many of the good CSI fics I could find I decided to write my own. Also I was encouraged by DragonFriend95. I mostly write to get my ideas out of my head and when I'm bored or stressed writing helps me out a lot. Also when I'm depressed writing fanfics can normally cheer me up.

41 Name: efyraa : 2009-11-22 08:09 ID:JaoppW8l

My reason's because I first came across fanfiction.net when I was in 7th grade, and I was hooked on reading the fics on my favourite animes, as that was the only section I was particularly interested in. Than, as I grew up, now I'm in the 11th grade, I felt as if I wanted to write my own, just didn't have the confidence to do so.

Now, I've started out and I hope I grow as a writer, meeting alot of new fanfic writers such as I :)

I continue writing because it's pretty much one of the only things that keep me going and keep my head held up high, even if I'm not the most talented, because it's one of my hobbies.

42 Name: wickedR : 2009-11-22 12:22 ID:t6vah1RB

I made up stories in my head ever since I can remember and I started writing them down as soon as I discovered fanfic exists.
I write mostly when I don't see anywhere written down already what I'd like happening to the characters. a few months later I forget what I wrote enough so that I can reread it and enjoy it as if it had been written by someone else.
I really don't care all that much how others like my stories, it's mainly for me only.

43 Name: cricketpoor : 2009-11-22 15:27 ID:FpHzybHJ

so i allways written original fiction, from i learned to writte. swedish being my mother tounge it was there i started, i wrotte a couple of fanfics in school, until my teacher put the fear of copyright in me and i didn't dre to any more. when i went to highschool that changed though, i started reading fanfiction thanks to a dear friend of mine, and then started to writte it.
I still writte mainly to challenge myself, I writte unlikely pairings and weird scenarios because it is what makes me evolve, both in fanfiction but also in the original pieces I writte.
I also want to just stick in an aplogy cause of the poor quality of my spelled english.

44 Name: Homicidal Ovary : 2009-11-22 16:35 ID:fSvv9Am/

I started writing fanfiction just to get some sort of self-worth. Yeah..that's pretty much it

45 Name: Anonymous : 2009-11-22 16:53 ID:J7z6A78H

I starting writing them because someone on a miley cyrus fan forum when I was like 13 (and a very strange 13 year old at that) asked me to read theirs, and I kinda liked the idea, and wrote one too. My first fanfic was a really bad, cheesy Hannah Montana story, yet it still managed to get 75 reviews- like 10 times more than the stories I actually put effort into. I still write mainly because it's a method of self-expression, and I've quite a good imagination at times.

46 Name: Watcher : 2009-11-22 18:46 ID:eL+jNYkR

Well, I read the Harry Potter books and I fell in love with them. That summer, I was browsing fansites for the aforementioned book series, and I came across a fanfiction site! The rest, as they say, was history. Unfortunately, I was only twelve at the time, so I couldn't join. But I had already written a dozen fics ... which I still haven't posted. :/
I waited until I was thirteen and then signed up. I'm still too shy to post anything other than challenge work, but I write it every day.

Also, I'm emotionally distant. I have trouble showing my emotions, so I do so through fanfiction. Depressed, I write a depressing fic. Angry, I write a harsh fic. Hyper, I write a fluffy fic. Weird, I write a WTF-Was-I-On?! Fic. So, yes, I express myself through writing. (:

47 Name: Dranatic-Snitch : 2009-11-23 12:08 ID:T5UepLCX

A couple of years ago, I started out reading Harry Potter fanfics on mugglenet fanfiction, then got interested in Naruto and, after a while felt confident enough to write up a couple of drabbles - neither of which got much attention, but I didn't mind. I then moved on to the Death Note fandom and wrote an answer to a oneshot challenge which got some nice praise. I haven't written anything new since then, since I seem to be more of a reader than a writer, but I'll start writing againn when I get some decent ideas :)

48 Name: momothelemur : 2009-11-23 12:56 ID:Mw0M8cxQ

I wrote fanfiction before I knew it was called fanfiction...pretty much just writing my own scenarios in my favourite TV shows. I was on a Willow/Tara (from the Buffy fandom) fansite and clicked on a link called fanfiction...all the fics turned out to be lemon. Being twelve at the time, I was kind of horrified at the content but intrigued about the idea of fanfiction. I heard about FFN and started reading a few Avatar stories but it wasn't until after watching the Season Two Avatar finale when I was 14 that I felt the need to write anything myself.
It wasn't the best thing I'd ever written, but I've gone on to write fics that have gotten quite a few reviews, including one which is almost at the 1500 mark.
I write fanfiction for the same reason that I listen to music, read books and write in general: to escape.

49 Name: Indigo : 2009-11-23 18:02 ID:VvEe/RRB

I'm a dreamer, so I've always made up stories and scenarios in my head. No joke, my mum has told me that I used to make up Winnie the Pooh stories when I was three. And horrifyingly bad they must have been.

Once I learnt to write I would write down any idea had that I thought was particularly good. I also went through an embarassing phase of creating original charcters that were me as I wanted to be... Essentially a Mary-Sue of myself.

I would also discuss "What ifs" with my friends. In fact I still do and that is where a lot of my inspiration comes from.

When I was twelve my dad bought me a gamecube game called Tales of Symphonia. I loved it and still do, and the story just wasn't enough for me. I made up countless scenarios in my own mind, but wanted something from other people.

I can't remember exactly when I heard the term "Fan fiction" but I searched for Tales of Symphonia fanfiction on google and found a link to an author profile of someone who had written over 100 Symphonia fics. I was hooked. From there it wasn't long before I discovered the rest of the site. I loved it. I was the only one in my class who was really into writing, so I felt pleased that so many people shared the interest.

I probably would have never joined, but one day after much encouragement from my best friend I shyly allowed her to read a fanfic I had written for a favoured pairing of ours. She liked it and encouraged me to post, and I did. I got some positive reviews which encouraged me, so next time I thought I'd written something decent I did the same thing.

Now I write because I love it and I want to hear what people think of it. I mostly only post short, fluffy one shots though, not so much because of a lack of confidence, although that is part of it, but because I struggle to update things regularly because I write whenever I feel inspired. I don't think it's fair to leave people waiting for hours.

Writing has become a way for me to express everything I can't talk about in real life, and that's a lot. I'm not a very open person when it comes to emotions - I have to really trust a person before I can confide in them. I've tackled many issues by turning them into fiction.

51 Name: Hezaa : 2009-11-28 14:33 ID:BOXBrt60

In the beginning, I'm ashamed to say, I wrote because I was obsessed with the characters and was more interested in completing the "stories" I had in my head, rather than the quality of the work.
Now, I write to continue a story or just to show my ideas on characters and how they would behave behind the canon plot.

52 Name: Hephs_Thighs : 2009-11-29 02:33 ID:TffIfomL

I started and continue to write fanfiction mainly because I get emotionally invested in art and narrative. I always want there to be more to the story. Also, I'm a crap writer and need better writer's characters/worlds/ideas.

I would suggest going to a creative writing course and probably doing a little studying on the books you like; what exactly is it that they do so well?
I started fanfic cus i had an idea burning a hole in my imagination, it was actually Pan's Labyrinth, i did two stories and then it went on, and I like getting reviews especailly if they're useful ones - oh yeh, i HATE getting reviews that make stupid comments, like they'll just summarise your narrative and it sounds really shit from them but they're really anthusiastic about it! Do they realise how pathetic that is?
And i get to look at other people's writing, and tell them the more technical issues with their work.
KYLARA KITSUNE: do you realise how dangerous that is, treating fanfiction like therapy?? We just discussed this in the 'Bitchy Reviews' forum, people can and will take advantage of your vulnerability and drip acid on you.

Ok this is going to sound a little sad but its the truth. I started writing FF about 3 months ago. I am a teenager in the middle of high school and to say i don't fit in with the crowd is a bit of an understatement. Writing is my way of letting myself into a world that i have created and have control over. It is my way of letting my emotions out and into my characters. Ten times better than wrting a diary because really my life isn't that interesting. Writing about characters with interesting and excting lives is far better. And getting good reveiws is just a nice perk that brightens my day...ok end of hallmark moment...

Well I started to write when I was in yr 9(I've now just start college). I'd found an anime on YouTube (wasn't looking) that I hadn't seen in ages. I decided to look for something about it and came across a story on Fanfic. I soon looked for more from the sameone and got hooked! I send the link to the site to a friend who also got hook, though on Harry Potter. She wanted to start writing but didn't want to by herself and asked me to start writting with her, so I did and I enjoy writting. I've wrote one one-shot but haven't actually compeleted a story yet (I discontinued one beacuse I decided to re-write it).

i read fanfiction for sometime before i began to write (or even think about) writing it. i acctually began writing fanfiction when i was overseas and my italian wasn't real good yet and i'm an avid reader, so i began to write fanfiction to keep me busy and to give me something to read. i've now writen dozens of fics though i didn't post anything till a couple of years later (recently.)

Indie - it was far less dangerous than other things I nearly did. Criticism of my work I can deal with, that's not a problem. I was using my writing to say the things I couldn't say to my mom, because it would have ended very badly.

Well, I found FF.Net whilst searching for Beyond Good & Evil fan fiction, of all things. I'd been writing a (really rather terrible) semi-fan fiction for some time, just 200 words a night. That thing was never going online, what with it's Mary Sue OC main character and contrived plot lines, but it was the start I needed.

Soon enough, I really got into the FFXII fandom. I'd start to flesh out the characters in my mind - FFXII was really the best for this, since there's very little character interaction, and therefore less limitations. Soon, these scenarios made my way into the (now scrapped and restarted) semi-fan fiction.

Then, one day, I got a strange urge to write. It was weird: I was just going out to Alton Towers for the day, but I grabbed a notebook and pen and wrote all the way there. That was the birth of 'When The Fire Dies', my first Vossler/Ashe fic, and my first real fic. It didn't get much attention, but what I did get was good. It wasn't enough. I wanted to expand the relationship I'd created, refine it, make it much, much better. So I started to write 'Past, Present & Future', which is still in progress. I always said I move to a slight AU when I ran out of non-AU ideas, but it hasn't happened yet. I think that's what keeps me going - I have these flashes of inspiration, and I want to write them out.

Gods, that was a long explanation. Kudos to anyone who read this far.

i started writing because i didn't like the ending of things and made my own. i have a pile of old stories from books,, movies, anime and manga that i thought should have ended different or had something else in there.

i had started looking for Inuyasha research and i had found fanfiction.net and i started reading and flipping through stories before i decided to sign up so i could review a few of them that i liked. after reading a few that were just awful i figured i could do better and started writing my first fanfic.

i still read and watch and everything and i still feel the need to fix things that the creators should have added or changed. i even have three or four different views on the same thing. i get better ideas all the time so i guess i'll have to just let them flow and see where i go.

I started writing because I too am not a very openly emotional person, easier to deal with things when they're written down. Many things have been tackled in my writing, though some of it I haven't posted.
Also, it's helped to give me confidence in my writng and I can get honest opinions.

The origin of my ff writing was when I started a "Diary of a Sim" while I was playing "The Sims Bustin' Out". Like a lot of my early attempts its never been published and was the first proper story writing I'd done since school. Strangely it was never intended so, but was supposed to be a log of my in-game activities to help me get a sense of progress. Almost immediately though I was creating a character for my sim, and soon started to develop plot threads as well. I began to realise then that a game could inspire good story writing.

FF.net allowed me to connect with other people with similar interests and desires to write. I write now almost of necessity because I've got these plot ideas and characters that I have to get out!

i started wtiting fan fiction as an outlet for my creative side. i was really stumped by the problems of having to write by hand, all that erasing and so on. i have been working on my first and current novel for about twenty five years! (GOSH! twenty five years?!) yes thats true! the ideas have been developed over that time, and i have been writing loads of short stories ever since. at the moment, i am working on a 3d movie of my own making to go with my ff.net story, death of a legend, and am even now working to finish the story in between the millions of things i have to do i a day! i think if i can get the ideas i have onto a site or computer, one day someone will recognise my talent and actually publish some of my work. maybe then i wouldnt be so bloody poor! thanks for letting me post here, guys. my full support to this site, and will be recommending this to my buddies all over! teknomancer.

I used to read fics about the band MCR when I was around 13 & started writing them myself. I feel like I've always wanted to do something like that but never knew what it was until I actually did it. Then I searched for CSI fics and found ff.net and from there Heroes fics. Writing is the only thing I feel like I'm remotley good at, and I still write now (mostly by hand) because I get too many ideas and have to get them down.

When I was in 'high school' (the french Lycée), I was so bored that I started to write a lot. And I read fanfictions a whole lot too, especially HP. Random stuff, before tackling my first fanfic: PotC fic. It was utter crap but I never stopped writing ever since. I finished this one - it was quite long, for me. And then, wrote the HP one I never finished. But I write all the time, even during my lectures, by hand or on my computer.

And when it's not fanfics or originals... I write essays and other university stuff - actually get cramps in my right hands quite often.

67 Name: moonphase9 : 2010-02-01 00:07 ID:VZv8CHe1

I have recently begun writing fanfic. I have been writing my own stories for years (seriously, from early childhood- my first story (I remember doing) was basically a comic strip because I didn't know the words to explain my story.) Being an author is my childhood dream (like most childhood dreams, whether I'll ever be published is...well...unlikely.) I have very low self esteem when it comes to my work. So eventually, after months of debate I finally started to put work on ff.net, just to see how I could take criticism.
That's why I write, to build up my confidence and capacity for critique. I gotta admit, I've been pleasantly surprised. Al my reviewers have been very nice, and all the crit I have received has been very constructive. I think I have become a better writer for it. I recently decided that when my novel is finished, I'm going to take the plunge and try to get it published :)

This is going to be hard to remember since I stated 5 years ago XD.
I think it was because I one day stumbled upon it on a Battle Royale (Awesome Japanese movie/manga) fansite and got really interested in the section they had there on Kawada/Kiriyama.

I believe I then joined Fandomination.net (Which has since, unfortunately, closed, because I lost all of my early fics from there as a result). and wrote a lot of real person fics around bands I liked at the time.

After that, I stopped writing for about a year, then Street Fighter 4 came out and I started reading the comics. I fell back in love with Vega as I did back when I was a kid and then found through the comics that him and Bison had amazing chemistry so I just ended up writing again and I'm now stuck with it XD.
I think I still write because at present, I'm the only Bison/Vega shipper out there and I'm kinda hoping someone will hop the bandwagon with me. (Someone technically has begun to, so I'm so far happy)

Geez that was long XD

and to read other stories where anonymouse reviews arn't allowed

I started writing when i was 12, i was getting really bullied at the time and found that my fav anime (Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Cardcaptors, Dragonball Z) really helped me cheer up. so one day i wanted to write a story about me as a Sailor Scout (before i knew Sailor Neptune existed) before you know it, i'm writing fanfics about a disgraced Sailor Scout who only wanted to do good things but kept on getting it all wrong. Later i moved on to a Vegeta love story and making up cards in Cardcaptors stories, lol i even tried rewriting the almost entirity of Tenchi Muyo.

Now a days i'm not bullied cause even when i don't feel confident i have my stories. Pretty much all my fics are based around an own character (i don't like making the real ones do what i want them to do, i try and keep them as authentic as poss) an then about maybe two years ago i started posting on fanfiction.net. None of my early stories are there cause they're really short and you can tell were written by a kid but i do have a long string of Naruto related ones. I really love Fanfiction writing!

I started liking fanfiction when i had finished playing kingdom hearts 2, cause i couldnt get enough of it i used to make up stories in my head. i was looking at different kh sites when i found fanfiction.net, immediately started to enjoy it. Then i thought to myself, i wonder what people think of my idea's, so i started writing. People seem to like my idea's but i need work done cause i am bad at my gramma ^^, i soooo need a beta lol. I read ff nearly everyday now XD, cant get enough of it, things can happen you know would never happen in the story. I read mostly kingdom hearts & BLEACH but also final fantasy 7, 10, 10-2, 12 and naruto ff before.

I only started writing last year. I was introduced to fanfiction by a friend as i am a huge twilight fan. She recommended a couple of stories which i read and loved but i felt they were missing something so i began to write my own story. I ended up writing a 300 page continuation in just 3 months. Once i started there was no stopping me, i had idea after idea which was making it impossible for me to stop so i ended up leaving it on a cliff hanger. I have recently started the sequel which is coming along well, hopefully i will be able to find the end i want this time but i'm not promising anything lol

I started writing on ff.net last year, when I was 13 and I was looking for fan art online, and I stumbled across ff.net. I was hooked within the week. I started off reading Torchwood fics, then Harry Potter and so on. I think my first story was a HP fic, but I eventually deleted it because it was terrible. I was always having dreams about what I would change in a story, and how it would be so much better if you added this or that. When I founf ff.net it was a blessing. A few months later I found Yaoi and I was addicted. All of this helped me realise I was bisexual and has helped me improve my English writing skills a lot. Thank You FF.Net!

I've always had a thing for inventing new stories for my favourite shows (in my head), but, when I found fanfiction completely by accident one day (when I was 16), I found a great new hobby: get those ideas down on paper and see what other people think of them!

I continue to write, because 1) it helped me discover a talent that I'd never relised existed and 2) it gives me a wonderful escape from life when said life gets too much to bear.

85 Name: Hannah : 2010-03-24 04:12 ID:vz38pGyf

I first discovered it in July 2007 and started writing in November 2008 because I'd read so many HP fics by then that Idecided to give writing a try. I'm still writing now because I use it to try out different styles of writing for the OW that I'm starting to write.

86 Name: Ely : 2010-03-24 13:36 ID:eUCgYSHQ

I started writing fan-fiction because I had nothing to do, and, as Hannah, have read so many HP/Naruto fan-fictions/doujinshis that I just started to write all of a sudden.

I also was appalled by the lack of good fan-fiction in Spanish [at least for Naruto] so I decided to start myself. I don't like the job I've done so far, but I have had many praises. I someone could take the time to read through the whole chunk of my fan-fictions, as the chapters go by the quality is better.

Then I started to see it as a literary practice, for some book or anything I could write in near future. After all, Eragon's author has a superb writing quality [not that I like the books that much] and he started when he only was 15.

Now I just see it as a way to experiment. I will continue to write fan-fiction, but just for the sake of it. Don't want to become obsessed or anything like that. I've currently written just one fan-fiction in English, and I'm starting to retake my Chinese studies to see if I could do anything at all in Chinese. Should be fun!

I think a good fanfic has a good story line without rushing things too much, so many people just try to make so many things happen at once! It's really irritating!

A good fanfiction always contain speech and detail, in the right amounts. No speech (Trust me there is some!) is so boring, no detail is like reading death.

So a good fanfic has to be a mixture and have a different story line. It your like me most female characters go through something like - pregnancy abortion or rape... Can't we just have something different? - abuse? -(if your looking for violence) amnesia - (interesting - it means forgetting your past...) orphanage? - (currently writing one) magic? fantasy? threats?

Something different. Thats all I want.
Anyway, check out my profile on fanfic, :) See you later!

I'm a harvest moon fan (farming game) so I was watching clips of stuff and I came across Baby Pan/I love Matty's Pretty Ore Fananimation. After watching it I went to read it and duh dah, I've found Fan Fiction. Once I understood how to publish fanfics on there, I started writing. I always did fanfics in my head, sometimes writing it down while most of the time just acting a little in my head. So when I found this site I was thrilled. I then found Merlin was on this site too and being hooked into Series 2 I started writng that.
Seeing as I found it in 2009 and I'm still the same age as when I found it, I can't say why I still write it as I've hardly wrote anything (31 stories including oneshots are hardly anything)

95 Name: Adair : 2010-04-19 23:56 ID:hjiHaQZt

Nothing seems epic enough. I watched some fan made trailers and they seemed better than the offical trailer. So i started day dreaming up epic scenes. Giant spaceships crashing into things with the lone captain with epic music in the background. Then I start thinking about how that situation came about, and there you go. So far, every story has something crashing into something else. Really hard to type what's in my head though.

I started because I can convey what I'm feeling via writing better than speech, and I was having a pretty rough time starting a new school. I write because...
a) They leave to many plotholes that need filling.
b) They don't explain my favourite characters that much.
c) I have an overactive imagination and start spontaniously creating scenes.
d) It's fun, and kills boredom!

I started writing back in the days of pen and paper! I was 15 in love with Doctor Who, Dragonlance and Star Wars. Books were slow in arriving in our little town so I started living in my imagination. My back catalogue of stories is in my head these days as I lost alot thanks to annoying ex. I still have all the stuff I wrote on my old 386 and alot of the stuff I began then gave rise to the Doctor Who stuff I have on whofic.com. Even now I have a number on the go at once. I do write original stories as well, which I hope to send to a publisher soon. Writing still is my escape (from bullying at school, watching my father die slowly and from all the trials of living life) and my joy and I love the feeling of knowning people are reading and enjoying it. My close family have never been supportive of the writing I do. My friends however are stunning :).

I think I was barely five years old when I somehow taught myself to read. I devoured books of all kinds and was thrilled to learn how to write when I was about seven. A year later I was introduced to the Harry Potter books, and even now, years later, I still devour them every so often. They inspired me because the plot's really nice, and still filled with holes to fill.
Filling holes is what my fanfictions are usually about. I grab any space not filled by the original author and fill it with what I think might have happened. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad. Some fictions were great, others a miserably big heap. Or so I was told anyway. I first posted some HP stuff on a forum which had a fanfic part to it. But later on, when that forum was being terrorized by new rules and stricter moderators, I moved over to ffnet and still hang out there even now. I have some one-shots left, and one on-going story which I really intend to finish someday... but the rest I all removed for now. It was a mess and I can't stand that.
Fanfiction also introduced me to great music. I can't write without the right music anymore. But c'mon, you have to agree! Trailer music or soundtracks just add a bit to the mood...

i just started because i was bored and had a lot of ideas, well my first story sucked big time but my second 'well, my dad is a demon' is going nice I've some trouble with my 4th chapter but I'm almost done with it tough, and i got the idea from some fan art and asked if i could use it for a fic and actually a lot people like it. even my English teacher read it and said i should continue because i get better with my English (he was right i got a 8 on my list now)

I started writing because I was addicted to the musical cats, and found stories about them on fanfiction.net. I was so amazed with those people who could just write something like that, and wanted to give it a try too. For me it wasn’t easy because I’m a Dutch girl who didn’t graduate yet, so my English wasn’t very good. But when I kept on writing I became better, and also became addicted to it. Now, I nearly can’t live without writing fanfics.

I feel that Jagex (I write about RuneScape) doesn't create enough backstory (their quests are awesome, they're not like: "Go kill some chickens and we'll talk", but they lack backstory)

So I create my own backstory to my own people!
I have way too much time, so that too of course, and also because I constantly have ideas that would be wasted if I didn't write them down D:

Hmph! So I just decided to make my own at my own story plot ^^ even thought of mixing up the pairing with other animes or mangas haha XD

I started writing for a very personal reason that I talk about on my profile. I initially started with the Mortal Instruments series because I had SOOOOO many questions after reading it, that my mind automatically started creating an entire three book series. (I know...pathetic)

Then, it just came a huge hobby for me. I love the creativity of it and the ability to take someone's characters and make then develop and grow in the scope of what the original author set in their books.

I started writing because... I don't know.
I just love writing so that's what I do. And unlike when drawing you can write almost everywhere.

I have too much fantasy and a lot of personal problems (e.g. School, family, work, friends, etc.) so I kindd of write it of me.
I also write original stuff of my own so I'll probably keep writing. I don't think the fanfiction sites will get rid of me soon!

I started writing fanfiction about three years ago in an effort to stave off the boredom brought on by summer vacation. Sadly, I abandoned that account, along with the countless others I have held over the years, and am now happy writing under my current pen name and circumstances.

Why do I continue to write fanfiction? For the same reason I continue to write original fiction; it's fun, it's challenging, and in many cases it's therapeutic. In addition, I believe the people I 'flame' are more likely to listen to someone who has proven themselves to be capable and willing of writing and publishing a piece of literature on a semi-regular basis.

I started writing fanfiction to get to see my favorite characters from shows doing what I want them to do, not what the owner of the character makes them do. I've always lived writing, so about five years ago when I wrote my first fanfic for Harry Potter, I got hooked.

I write now to express my opinions and let out my creativity before it explodes and gets all over my clean clothes. XD I write original stories too, but its fun to lean back and write fanfiction sometimes.

When I was 5, I already made up stories with my favourite tv characters.I even drew them. For me, it was a way to express my feelings, use my imagination ...
Now, 10 years later, I still do that...but now it put it on the internet! =D I'm on fanfiction.net since ...may 2009 I think
I wa really glad when I finally found people who didn't thought I was weird (my mom calls me a freak; maybe I am one. I'ts not just the fanfics)
Anyway, I love reading & writing fanfics; too bad I have so little time to work on them...

110 Name: KatonRyu : 2010-06-28 04:09 ID:dWwzh/o9

I started writing when I got my first computer when I was 7. They were half-page stories of my own, but one day I decided to write a story about Scooby-Doo.

Why? I don't know, I like to write and I always have. I always have epic things going on in my head, and trying to express them is a challenge for me. I write mostly fanfics because thinking up characters and especially character names is something I suck at. Another reason is that I support a lot of non-canon pairings, and writing about them makes them a little more alive for me.

I started writing last year. I found the site because I love to write and I went on Google searching for some type of writing site. From there I found Fanfiction. I first started out reading Twilight stories and Twilight crossovers. The more I read the more I wanted to write my own. So I created my username, made my profile, and started my first story. Run Bella Run. The more reviews I got the more I would write. The reviews kept me going. I have about 13 stories, i think. I am not really sure but I have not had much time to write because of everything going on around me. I would like to write again soon though. Writing brings me into a whole other world.

112 Name: SOSKate88 : 2010-07-01 23:24 ID:u+Lbbrxq

I started writing because I was inspired by an ff.net story about my favorite anime (at the time) Inuyasha. It was just a random Truth or Dare submit fiction, but I loved it so much, I began my own, writing every now and then for a year or so.
After I stopped watching Inuyasha, I began to develop my own musical preferences, and began to write stories about meeting my favorite bands, or about a character meeting them, just for fun. At the end of the 7th Grade I wrote one story so much people wondered if I was writing a novel.
I wrote a one-shot or two for a TV series I liked, and then had a time where I didn't look at FF.net for a long time.
Then I discovered the Anime K-ON! and began reading that, soon deciding to write that. And now, I'm reading and writing for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's something I don't expect to get off anytime soon.
I still write because of boredom and release for myself.

I started "Writing" fanfiction because I kept doing fanfics in my head, then I found some lovely Ranger's Apprentice stories and decided to join fanfiction.net and post some stories of my own. It was only after I got my account that I even thought of branching out into other fandoms XP

I still write fanfiction because I ignore the idiots on there (It starls with an "L" and ends with a vowel) who told me and a couple of my friends to stop writing. Seethes with fury :)

I could fill a book with reasons why I hate Twilight. Weak story, weak characters, weak everything. Not to mention that the basic message is that you should dump your whole life the instant a cute guy shows up, and everything in your existence should revolve around that guy.

I started fanfiction because when I finished the HP series I wanted to read some stuff about James/Lily and fanfiction came up. I basically disappeared after that. Four years later, I did it again for YGO, and here I am, now active. Also, I enjoy writing and reading, though the quality there isn't that great,

118 Name: Oreramar : 2010-07-09 11:29 ID:tcnVQf4D

My little sister started writing fanfics before I did. Somewhere along the line, she learned what a Mary Sue was. One night we were giving each other writing challenges, and hers was "write an anti-Mary-Sue story." Once she explained just what a Sue was, I was hooked, and I hooked her in return: my first fanfic was an anti-Sue collaboration with her in the Redwall fandom.
From there, I played about a little more with Sue-fighting fics in that arena, then branched out.
Mostly I write the stories I would like to read - the stories that either don't exist yet or the ones that don't exist in a quality form.
I also write because, well, people seem to like it. I enjoy knowing that my writing has brought someone else some entertainment.

119 Name: ChAnNyObSeSsEd : 2010-07-09 14:36 ID:VsnfQO5N

I originally started writing on fanfiction because I absolutely LOVE to write, and I wanted people to see it and tell me what they thought. I enjoy writing romance the most, especially for my favorite all-time TV couple, but romance in general gets me going. I don't know if it's the cheesiness of some of it or the hope that one day I will have a special someone, but I really like that feeling I get when I read other people's romances, and I get all tingly and start blushing (I don't know why I do that, I just do!). If other people I know enjoy that sensation as much as I do, then I want to entertain people and give them that thrill.
Plus, knowing that someone is reading along and wanting me to update gives me hope. I love reviews, positive or constructive. They help me know what to work on, and both are equally helpful. Constructive critism helps you become a better writer, and major FAN reveiws really boost your confidence and make you want to give the reader the best chapter you possibly can.
I write because it's so much fun and knowing I am making someone happy makes me happy.
I had a girl review once (she was an anonymous review), and she told me that she read my 40 chapter romance, and that she absolutely loved it. She told me that it helped her get through some really hard family times she was having, and it always gave her something to look forward to. That put a lasting impression on me. Ever since then, I am determined to do my best. ;)

interesting...is this how it works...?

Gods it's been how long? i started technically when i was in...what...sixth? seventh grade? so maybe around 11 or 12. i'd been an avid anime/game fan for years, loved stories, loved Digimon and Pokemon and Legend of Dragoon...

i saw things in them that spoke to me, things that made sense, while others thought it was stupid. Gods i sucked. My stories involved what was in my head. all of it based off of stuff from other places, but with my own characters in my own setting. did i mention it sucked?

i dont remember when i stumbled on FF.net, but i did, and i posted, and i posted and i posted...as you can see by the amount of stories i have there.

i cant help it really. i see stories and see paths that werent taken, ideas that could be added, questions that werent answered. it doesnt help that alot of the time, change one thing, one event even slightly, and you get an entirely new side to a person. we've seen it in canon, and it's no different in fanon.

i just love exploring those paths...seeing those truths that dont exist until something triggers them. it lets me get out the thought of "if this existed in this world, then why cant they do more with it?"

I started writing because of a suggestionI heard. I always wanted to be an author, and I learnt of fanfics vua the internet, and read some interviews with some people. I realised it was a great way to make my own additions to favourite game universes, and get my ideas out there. Since then, I've just been hooked on the whole process.

Well, before I even started writing fiction, I read it. Manga, Online, Media, Video Games, you name it. However, when I read a book called "Soon I will be Invincible," which was about the thoughts and feelings of a superhero and supervillain respectively, I decided to take a crack at it by writing ana lternate ending ti "Sonic Adventure 2." It was a small hit, despite my horrible typing and punctuation back in the day. Since then, I write on an occasional basis, most of my stories pertaining to video games I play. Many more of them are set in alternate universes. I still write to this very day, in an effirt to one day finsih all of my stories and provide another look at certain francises.

123 Name: Scarlet : 2010-07-16 05:22 ID:+ewpfTeL

I first started writing because I kept getting these ideas in my head about like, "Wouldn't it be so cool if this happened instead in the book?" or "That really sucked. They should of done this instead..." and I found that all I would think about would be what would happen if I could rewrite the story. So one day, I did start rewriting one of the books. I added new characters, killed characters, even changed the entire plot.
And I sat there after having written 5 chapters in 7 hours straight and thought to myself. "I am GOD."
Writing the stories the way I wanted to and doing whatever I wanted to do gave me a feeling of power. This was MY story.
And it was fun too. Take for example my fanfiction, "Vampire? No Thanks..." at first it was going to be a serious story, but one day I realized I could write it however I wanted, it didn't have to be serious. Low and behold a year later, I'm on Chapter 58 ( all my chapters are incredibly long as well.) having people laugh there butt off because my story so funny.
Along with making me happy because I can use my creativity, it's nice to know that I have a hundred or so people that adore my story and are always waiting for my next update.
Thats why I still write.

I've started writing at a young age, but not constantly - with on-and-off periods and the quality of my first one-shots was... not very good. Then, at septembre 2008, I finished reading His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. The ending made me incredibly sad, so I decided to read a few fan-made sequels and when I had finished them, I had decided I could do better, so I wrote my own fan-made sequel. Looking back on it, it's still not the quality I strive for today, but it was a start. Then, I started writing other one-shots concerning that fandom and that eventually expanded to other fandoms and now, 'normal' stories. It's been almost two years since I started writing again and now I'm writing in much better quality, I don't think I'll ever put down the figurative pen again.

When I am watching a movie, reading a book and it really captivates me. Then I could start a fanfic. Describing the thoughts of a character that wasn't very clear in the original story is always very interesting. Or giving a story a whole new twist, but still making it believable for the readers.

It's also a bit of practise, because I wanna write my own stories some day.

126 Name: LunarMistress : 2010-07-17 17:28 ID:RLKvfT4g

I started my first fanfiction in about...8th grade assume. I forgot what got me started besides the fact that I just wanted to marge to worlds that I really loved (Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z). It had a nice run of thirteen chapters and then a nice little sequel. The thing is, when I look back at it, I find it to be utter carp and I find my self asking why thirteen people were so interested in it (I got a message a year ago to continue the sequel, which threw me off greatly).

Then I remember why I continued write and push myself. Its the same reason why I keep writing today. I like creating my own takes and storyline and I adore the fact that people enjoy them. If it wasn't for fanfiction, I may have never pushed myself to find the thing I love, so I keep writing fanfiction my free time for practice, fun, and to see people that may enjoy it as well.

My friend actually got me into it. I didn't even know it existed until she showed me the site. At first I was lukewarm with the idea at best, then I found slash. At first it was just something to make fun of, especially Harry/Draco. But then I found a really moving piece and stayed up for three days reading it (it was really long). After that I got hooked.

As for why I started writing, it was because I've always had a bit of a talent (though you can't see it in my earlier works, they're horrid) and I wanted to try it out. So I started writing a few stories here and there and now I have a total of 73, more if you count the ones I haven't finished or uploaded yet.

134 Name: SierraKathleen : 2010-07-19 15:43 ID:XmiNAY28

I first discovered a love for reading fanfiction in the autumn of 2009. By early November I started my first fanfiction for the Supernatural fandom.

What made me decide to start? Well, that's a good question -- I just felt really connected to fanfiction somehow, if that makes any sense. I've been writing since, oh pretty much my whole life, kindergarten even. But it sort of faded as I transitioned from elementary school into my junior high years. And then, suddenly mid-high school, I come face to face with fanfiction and something just told me to look deeper and to search harder.

I guess you could say I'm but an amateur in terms of fanfiction. There are people who have been writing for years, whereas I've only been involved with it for a little over eight months now. Still, I continue writing cause for one I just can't seem to stop lol. But also, I feel like there's a lot that can be learned and I keep getting plots and thoughts that form in my head which make me want to continue.

But, despite all that, I've actually met quite a few interesting people over the course of joining up with FF.net and having my fictions known on there. One person and I communicate through email and are even friends on Facebook now! It's been very enriching and I'm sure throughout the years to come it can only continue to get better ^___^

I got my own account on FF.net, wrote 3 oneshots, then a 40-chapter epic I wish to die. It's something I kind of do for practice for my published works. Also, it's helped me a ton in school.

My first encounter with fanfiction was actually the famous Draco trilogy by Cassandra Claire when I was about 13 or so, but I didn't start writing fan fiction for about another year.

I'm not entirely sure what it is that drives me to write fan fiction other than my very loud, extremely adamant OC characters banging around inside my head.
