I don't know if there's already a post thing about this but i couldn't find one.
I recently got a really bitchy review about one of my stories on fanfiction.net about a twilight story i did, with adult themes.
I wouldn't have minded if they just didn't like the story, but they made it personal and was saying that i was f-ked up and such.
it really bothered me and i ended up deleting the story.
I just wanted to see if any of you guys have had the same problem, and if so what you did.
Never delete a story just because someone didn't like it! You should have sent a message back saying they're entitled to
their opinions but such criticism was over the top.
Thanks. I would of sent a message back, but they reviewed anonmously.
You shouldn't be bothered if someone writes anonymously.
It normally means that either they have no experience of writing themselves and therefore have no right to criticise you unless it's constructive (which it clearly wasn't)or that they're too chicken to let you critique their work the same way or they're to chicken to put their stuff on the web full stop.
Comments like that are often made out of either fear for a particular subject or of jealousy that someone else has a superior writing style to them.
I agree with anonymous that you shouldn't have deleted the story because of what someone said. I'm not a fan of Twilight myself, but I still think it's wrong to bitch about someone's story just because hey didn't like the subject.
>>1
By deleting your story, you are essentially agreeing with their opinion that your story should be deleted. If you do not like what they said, why do you then go ahead and effectively agree with them through your decision?
i agree with all the ppl who talked before me
you shoudnt delete your story
and it is strange that all those "critics" who are bitching over a story or an author are always non-registered users or/and anonymous
I agree with everyone above. people how say stuff, like that probably can't write themselves.
I have those kind of people in my class (unfortunately), my friend and I wrote a story and were re-reading it in class. And that guy started like "what, you like writing stories. omg you don't have a life" and stuff like that.
and I mean if you don't like how a story is written, than give some advice, but at least be nice ...
I wonder what all the other reviewers of your story said. I think no-one should let one person dictate what you write or post. I've never had a really bitchy review, but I did get one that was honestly obscene and suggestive - and yes, it was anonymous! (You'd think if they really wanted me to do THAT with them, they'd at least have left a name and phone number!)
You could always do what I did - just delete the review!
Don't delete just because one person didn't like what you wrote. If they have a reason to criticize, then listen but if they just say it was horrible, just ignore them.
You have a lot to learn.
Your anonymous reviewer was a coward.
You should have given yourself twenty-four hours to deal with the effect of the review you received. Trust me, after a night's rest it would not have had the same impact.
For every anonymous prick who leaves you a shitty review there are three readers who enjoyed the story. You basically shut them out. Don't ever do that again. You are a writer, exploring your creativity. It's your right, just like it's the coward's right to be a coward.
Live and let live. Write what you need to write, and don't let anyone talk you out of it.
It's your story. The opinion of one idiot does not mean you should delete it. A well-structured criticism is welcome, but he just sounds like a damn flamer. Don't let these idiots get you down. Heck, repost the story if you haven't already. Just because one person is afraid of something does not mean everybody is afraid of something.
@#4; there are some who just don't want to log in when they post a review. They might be somewhere where they may be monitored, such as web cafes. It could also be that the anonymous reviewer does not want to create an account yet. Do a search for the username, you might find it. And Prism, you're right. Psycho, it doesn't matter what you think. If you're vying for reviews, be prepared for this kind of crap. When you get that kind of a flamer, just ignore them. To keep the story posted after a review such as the one you received is only a mark of how strongly you believe in your own talents as a writer.
Pleasing everybody is impossible. Don't try. Please who you can, because it's all you can do.
Majority of flamers/haters do leave anonymous reviews. They think that by keeping their identity a secret, they are safe behind their computer monitor from any return messages. Naturally, unless they have good morals, people will try to hurt others and/or do bad things if they can get away with it.

I know how you feel. When people like that get you down, just think about the reasons why you write in the first place.
Do you write just to recieve praise?
I don't. I write because it makes me happy. I like to lose myself in worlds that I or others have created, and I love to spin tales and know that I'm creating things... and perhaps just a little I write to get away from my life when I'm feeling down, but in the end I don't write to please other people and if I do, that's just a bonus for me.
People who say stuff like that are usually ignorant and stupid and not worth your time. They're just one of the things that writers of all kinds and calibres sometimes have to deal with.
Kura-chan,
I share your sentiment. I too write to please myself. Would you mind posting a link to your work? I'd like to read it.
Closest I've gotten in a PM on ff.net about my apparent character flaming. I admit I have a weird sense of humour, and apparently someone who read something I wrote thought I was too harsh - I actually love the character but was in "that" mood so I perhaps ripped apart a character I didn't mean to.
It was a fair comment really, I just write for my own benefit and if anyone enjoys the stuff I write thats a bonus, but I took that on board. I didn't change the story as I personally liked it, and I just replied that it wasn't an intentional flame, I did like the character and just a strange person. I just realise that sarcasm is hard to relate in text.
But yeah - generally when I get round to read other comments I dislike reading bitchy or non cunstructive stuff. Say someone posting stuff like "you have typos here" is damned useful, but saying stuff patronising like "you might want to find the grammar checker, its useful" just sounds really nasty.
So yeah, its the old stuff like reading a yaoi story (I'm not a fan of it but I was curious to see what was in them that made them so popular), then having people post about it calling disgusting etc is just silly. Usually the "warning contains xxx" is up there
I don't like randomers who just review saying the story is BAD. They act like they're out to get you, and it makes me think, like, 'if you don't like this pairing/sexuality etc. why read it?'
Got a really funny review on my 100 word drabble collection:
"these chapters are way too short I perfer one long chapter than a lot of short ones"
Um. Thanks, but, what's your point? I mean, sure, a lot of people would rather read long chapters, I understand that. But is there any point in reviewing that on a fic that is BASED around having only 100 words? What, you want me to change it from 100 word drabbles to only 1,000 word fics? Was this person seriously thinking that s/he was giving me some actual criticism?
It made me laugh, to say the least.

thats something i get quite a lot
since im not a native speaker
i do know though very well that i lack of perfect grammar and i have typos (no matter how many times i read it i still have typos)
but why ppl think that by telling me "you have typos" can help?
i mean i know already too well that i have typos nobody can vanish them
even in a great books sometimes you find one or two typos
it is normal
that kind of comments are just showing me that my story wasnt good enough to have them focus on that and ignore the few mistakes
im not a writer who posts without editing first
im trying to have my stories as great as my readers deserve to see them.
and lets put aside my stories
what i hate the most is when a great writer gets reviews telling her "you need a beta"
im talking about my idol fanfiction writer AprilEangle-sensei
she is german so her english cant be perfect no matter what i even see minor grammar errors but YOU JUST CANT SAY TO THAT UPPER LEVEL WRITER THAT SHE NEEDS A BETA
i mean she writes 400 A4 pages stories that deserve to be read to the tiniest word.
i find it a bit hypocritical to say to such writer "i love your story but you have minor grammar errors"
i probably dont even make sense but if you read any of her stories you'll understand what i mean
I couldn't agree more with everything said here.
It truly is such a shame when an amazing writer gets bashed even by one person and they just completely lose their confidence in themselves and their stories.
I mean i recently had someone tell me about how terrible my story is and about how i should give up and shits like that and i'll be honest, it REALLY hurt and i took down the chapter and am currently re-writing.
I felt like a dick for bending to their will but... i also felt that well if they think that, how many others do? Y'know?
There have even been instances where i've been near to tears because someone has said such harsh things about something i poured my everything into writing. Sad right? sighs
I just don't get who these people are and why they do it!
i havent got really that harsh reviews to be honest
but when i see in my fandom a very good writer gets a shitty review i even message the writer telling them they are great and they should ignore the jerk
and there was a "critic" who went to a story and flame it
she had a name but she wasnt registered so i just search for her and found her
her profile was so arrogant! she wasnt a writer of course.
i wanted to send her a bitchy message and all but i coward because i didnt want her to "criticize constructively" my stories she would break my spirit i admit
because im sure if she was even going to say a good word she was going to say it with such hatred and arrogance that i would want to break down and cry
I've never had a flame. I sort of want one - I feel like I'm missing out on part of fandom. Like they can't even be bothered to flame me.
I don't get how they can break your spirit. Either what they're saying is a lie, in which case you should ignore it, or it's got hints of truth, in which case you should act on it.
@Flinch-Hayward - I wouldn't worry, you ain't missing out on much. At all. Unless, of course, you like reading bitchy stuff people write.
I can kind of see how they could upset you, because it's the same as someone walking up to you in the street and calling you a...cow, for want of a better word. Mildly upsetting (or if you've had it for the better part of two decades, funny.) But there again, I've never really been flamed. I've had the occasional 'this story is too short and pretty rubbish, sorry' but that's about it.
I got one of a girl, that was perfectly ... well, it insulted me, but reading back on it - she didn't really mean to insult me. I replied to her, asking that she would refrain from complaining aotu a quote in the story, because it was actually from the Bible - and a character had said it; NOT ME. I don't believe in the quote, nor do I follow it, so why should I suddenly be in a blasphemist argument?
I just think sometimes people take the stories a bit ... TOO seriously. Like they believe every word of it. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's like ... you can't learn life experiences from reading; even though I love it ^_^
Oh right, this reminds me of the only thing that comes close to a fame I ever received;
"I think you should put a warning first for pregnant women out there . This is so horrible! You're only 15!! And considering the fact that you are still immature it is not an excuse to write such a detached story! You're almost like one of those mothers who kills their babies after they are born!!
This has got to be the most horrible story I've ever read! This is not something your 'serious mood' should expel! I'm pregnant and I can't believe I just read a story with such tragic complications for a newborn!
This story ahs to be reported to the Moderators!
Put a fucking warning! That was a newborn!! That was a grave mistake on your part you fucking immature child!
I hope your parents would read this monstrosity and punish you for your damned insolence!"
After getting that review I decided to disable anonymous reviews because if you want to flame me, than you've got to have the balls to leave your name.
Also, looking back on it now, I really was an immature 15 year old. (It was a review for Newborn, full of super angst). I'd probably act the same way if I was preggers and read a story about killing babies, because babies are fuggin adorable.
Haha. *flame. Not fame. :P
<<25 she should read my story lol
i gave haruka a really bad pregnancy after she was raped and the child was born premature and blind!!
she would hated me ahahhahah
but this is why it is called ANGST AND TRAGEDY
because it is a very sad story lol
if you have it angst then she was stupid to ignore it :P
maybe she got emotional due to her pregnancy
lol when i was 6 and my first teacher at school was pregnant she slapped me without a reason
<<27
at our school when i was 10 our cover teacher slapped this guy in our class cos he called her a cow.
the funny/mean thing was everyone laughed at him when she did it, as this guy was like a total jerk.
The cover teacher got banned from teaching =P
I think it's annoying when people review stories badly say for like angst and that it's too dark and stuff, when really why the heck are they reading it when the genre clearly states ANGST.
Ditto if someone's put a warning in the summary, like say self-harming, and they review having a go about self-harming.
Why did they read it in the first place when they know it's about something they don't like?
I allow anonymous reviews. If flamers are anonymous, then can't you just delete their post?
I've never gotten a flame; I'm glad I haven't.
I've been flamed and I just find them shallow and amusing. Usually I put them to work for me, too. I used one flamer's name for a chapter title in one of my stories and the name of another flamer for the antagonist in that same story. He died horribly.
I don't mind constructive critisism, because it can help you make your stories better, but it can only go so far.
I once had flamer saying that my fiction was just a rip-off of someone else's and threatened to report me. I had been given inspriation by a fellow writer and received permission to have my story along the same theme, but the flamer hadn't read the disclaimer I had put to confirm it.
@ electrum
LOL, great method of not caring about it, bb! XX
i have been flamed by a guy before he even added one of my stories to his c2s he kind of layed into them a few years back but thankfully fingers crossed he hasnt bothered me in about 18 months
I am another lucky one who has recieved no flames, but i have read the works of authors who have and i know they are mean and cruel things. my advice (especially if they're anonymous) is to laugh. especially if they are grammatically incorrect and are mostly profanity. also thank them for the time and effort they have put in for reviewing your story.
but it is hurtful and flamers are wrong
much hugs to you all!
lizzie hopscotch
lol I've never been flamed but I do tend to get rather a lot of "UPDATE OR I WILL EAT MY OWN COCK" sort of things. theyre rather amusing, as are normal flames. in the jrock fandom you get absolutely bucket loads of wank so if you want to see funny wank go onto like.. jrock secret or something and read away. omg, funny.
I once got a flame, though admittedly I am a yaoi fan and it was a yaoi story. I get that people aren't into that... but there's a limit to how ridiculous you can get. This flamer told me that people are born with a quote 'straightness gene' (I'm not making this up!) that means gayness is scientifically wrong. And then he told me in the same sentence that it's okay for girls to be gay because half of us are anyway, thereby exempting me from his own flame. XD
I bitch back. =D.
I can't even stand constructive criticsm, I hate it when people tell me how to write my stories when ive been writing for years on end, im sure I have enough experience now. >_>.
But when people just have to be that little bit extra and say something horrible or trying to hide it beneath other words it just really annoys me so I post a review on my own story getting back at them x) Altho I doubt they'd read it.
I've read quite a few stories that have been flamed (some of them I didn't like myself but that's not the point) and I think flames are something that almost all authors deal with at some point. I just think that flaming is really stupid, particularly ones that just say 'I hate this story it's so bad' or something. I particularly loathe argumantum ad hominum (which is saying 'You're so stupid' or something. It literally means 'argument against the person' if you're interested). I'm sorry but what has any if that got to do with the story? Anyway, what's the point of reviewing if you don't like it and can't offer tips. I can see the use in 'I liked this bit but to improve this bit you could...' but that's as far as negative reviews can go I think. Mostly you should just ignore flamers, particularly if they're anonymous. How underhand is it if you can't even flame using your own name??

I haven't had a flame yet, thank god. There have been some constructive reviews, and I am still a fairly inexperienced writer so I took them too seriously. Now hopefully I'm better at accepting fair criticisms. I really hate people who flame stories where the author is obviously new, and they flame about nothing. I swear some people only review for the satisfaction of knowing they're hurting someone >:(
And remember a lot of people flame new authors just to get the bitchy reply back. I have a theory they get a kick out of it, so just don't go OTT on them.
I don't think I've ever had a proper flame, there was once a troll on the COTT site though who sent a flame to my work pretending to be another author. But because they had to post it anonamously I just deleted them :)

Personally I've always replied to every review which has required my attention. So something that hasn't just read "Great story" or what ever.
Flamers, oh flamers, I've dealt with my fair share of those. And there has been a vareity of them as well. I've had the ones who have decent advice, whom I thank. Then we have the ones where I release hell upon lol.
These are the ones who tell you how to write your story, attack your personal character, they don't like your story because it isn't the "right" pairing for a particular character.
I asked them to explain why my story was wrong, and then not so politely told them exactly where to go and to never darken my reviewer list ever again. If they attacked me as a person it tended to go into a whole argument where I wound up getting apologies lol.
Oh and then I laughed, a lot, because they had just added to the review count of a story they didn't like. Something I told every single one of them. Revenge is sweet my fellow writers lol.
I personally think it's dumb to flame stories. If i read a story that was bad then i wouldn't review; waste of time. I remember a story where it was good, but not perfect. The author got a flame review, the flamer must have been stupid or really, doesn't have a life.
I've had flames (in the past they would insult me when I attempted humour fics, claiming I was on crack... I'm too young for freaking drugs!), but most of them came from someone who excelled at writing. She was good enough to be passed off as a real writer, but whenever she did review I usually snapped back with a better argument. The main rule is to be calm and not let them know you were intimidated.
Once this same girl flamed the work of someone I knew, when it was totally uncalled for. She worked so hard on it and said she'd give up on writing if she got more bad criticism. I think she has because it was the last thing she wrote... what I did was reply to the review she'd given her, but unfortunately I never got a reply. In the end, this continuous reviewer had put me down so many times I deleted almost everything she'd reviewed, and it ended up putting her off. She stopped reviewing, but she has entered my competition for fans of Tokyo Mew Mew. In a way, I've learnt to respect these disastrous flamers, because in a way, most of their opinions really do make sense.
hey psyco chick 666 you shoouldnt listen to wat people say. dont take it to heart. i know it hurts but its abit like what my mum said. she is a teacher and someone wrote on her desk mrs brown is a shit teacher. she got upset but she just got more worked up. try to just forget what people say some people are just plain rude they probably loved the story but wanted to dis it as it was better than their own
I got a bitchy review saying that its so gay to use forign languages between characters. What do you guys think????? the link is my story but i deleted the review.
I'm with Sarkura, if I don't like something I just stop reading and don't bother commenting.
I've had a few bitchy ones, the two that stand out being one guy who said "I'll watch this story, but watch out for grammar and punctuation". I PM'd him and asked where my errors in grammar and punctuation were and he said there were none, he just liked to point that out to me because he couldn't think of anything else critical to say... The second one was from a guy who just said "I haven't read any of this and I don't know the author but this is this biggest pile of **** ever, wouldn't even wipe my *** with it (it went on for a LONG time like that)" which was basically unfair because he started it by saying he hadn't even read what he was commenting on! And he said I had no life for writing the fic, but I have to wonder how saw was he for looking it up and writing that massive review on it?
Where do these people come from?!
I agree strongly with everyone who has posted here, you shouldn't delete the story - no way. They were anonymous and so obviously knew they were doing something wrong by being so bitchy, this always shows they were a coward and most probably have no writing talent whatsoever. You shouldn't have deleted the story, in fact, if you've still got it on your computer, re-post it all again and if anyone says something similar and are anonymous, just delete the review. You definitely shouldn't care what someone like that thinks, they're stupid and immature.
Enjoy writing and being creative and don't let anyone tell you things like that or make you feel you should delete your story.
I've never hate a flame but i'd like one. I've had constructive criticism which i like getting as well as normal reviews. I hate anonymous flamers though. I find that cowardly and you can't reply to it either. You really shouldn't delete your fic though. It's sort of like rubbing their faces in it by continuing i think. I'd be annoyed if they flamed with really bad grammar though if that's what they're flaming you for.
@ Elecktrum - Brilliant!!!
I got a lot of bad comments about my writing style, and ended up deleting all of my fics (seven)
I got one telling me that the Cullens are American and don't use some of the words I use. But the fact is, I am not American. I do not know the entire lingo. I was seriously close to pointing out that Harry Potter was english, but the lingo was changed when published in america, yet twilight was not changed for us.
Then I went and checked out their page, and felt better when I saw they couldn't spell "Volturi".
So, I kept my reply civil.
But I know how it feels. It really hurts your feelings with the really HORRID ones.
I've never been flamed.
But one girl commented on my spelling and Grammar once.
I went to her profile, and had to actually ignore her review, because she was using "Virginia" as Ginny's first name, common misconception that I can deal with as long as they just use Ginny in the fic, and she Couldn't spell WEASLEY!!!!
I nearly died.
And she spelled Voldemort wrong.
I don't get how it happens. But I ignore it now, people who flame you, read their fics, and laugh at them. Because most of the time it isn't even justified.
my link doesnt work is mad
I hate double posting.
Sorry!!!!! Dont report me
HATE TO FLAMERS!
I hate it when they spell characters names wrong. How much of a fan are you if you don't know their names or even how to spell them. If you read it often enough it sticks.
Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine. It really pecks my head. shrugs
Oh, that has happened to me! Someone said they were going to report my story, and I didn't understand why! They also said it was realy bad and such, which I don't mind, that is a matter of opinon, but it really gets you down, doesn't it?
Flamers are pathetic, it happened to me, it really got me down; it didn't help that I'd only just been put on anti-depressants either >:[ So they purposely went out of there way to be a complete ass to me; but the pathetic thing is you find Flamers DON'T use there accounts they go as either anonymous or make a pathetic name up like SiriusHetLover Example.
Personally I think those are the most pathetic ones, I think that if you want to leave a nasty flame, you should be in your account where the author can email you and ask what you thought was wrong with it.
But obviously the anonymous reviewers are pussys >:[ Grrr
Okay, enough ranting from me :)
Bye xx
My ultimate pet peeve is bad spelling....and more so when they can quite easily LOOK THE CHARACTERS UP!!!!!
xD
When you publish a story, don't you want people to see the bad points, and be able to give you some advice on how to improve, rather than just getting comments like "Well gd, keep going xxx"?
I would, simply because at least with Flamers you can see where you've gone wrong. But no, flamers who just attack you personally are rubbish.
Like one time, I'd written a story about Waterloo Road, and made it common knowledge that I disliked on of the pairings in it. And then I got a PRIVATE message, on Fanfiction.net, with someone calling me a 'fat whore', because I did not like them. Pointless or what?
Always find it amusing to point out to them mispelt words, and the simple reply of "Yawn." does wonders :P
I've had my fair share of flamers, and generally I just ignore them, because they're not worth my attention. However, after I received several flames within a few minutes from the same person, on different fics, I wrote a comment on my ff.net profile to say how childish I thought they were being. It had the effect I wanted - I haven't had another flame so far.
It IS important that reviewers point out spelling/grammar, nonsensical meatphors etc, but would it kill people to be civil? I've never had a flame, but even when the story was genuinely bad flamers make my skin crawl. Especially if they don't even bother to point out what it is they don't like.
Basically, writers need praise and honest criticism to grow and improve. Spewing hate just hurts people, also it makes you look like $%&*£@.
I just don't get these people.
The one who annoys me most is lordofallhate he allways says the same thing. I hate you. ARRR gets on my nerves everytime i see that name
As in to bitchy reviews...hmmm i haven't got flamed in a long long long time...so i forgot the ones i have XD XD
But my friend recently just recovered from writers block and made a Prince of Tennis one shot.
Her first language is NOT English even though she passed her tests in, so it's acceptable that her grammar is slightly off and there will be some mistakes.
But she got a nasty review from someone called K, who i must say was a coward because she didn't even have the decency to flame with an account! But honestly, people like that just aren't worth it. And the fact she brought me into her little flame rant was irritating too.
But tbh...she made me laugh. Coz she falmed anomously(SP), and to me that's just being a coward :P
Ah can i apologise for my bad spelling there >.<**
I really hate reading bitchy comments. I have had one myself and I know it really hurts. However sometimes people don't mean to be mean. For example, I once read this story which was riddled with mistakes, did not look spell checked and did not have a very good plot. However I had already said I would review it. So I said something like 'This story is really good, but maybe you should proof read it before you put it up because there are a few mistakes.' I know it may have sounded patronising but I was not her Beta so it was not my responsibility to correct it and I wouldn't feel right flat out lying. But she replied very nastily. Would she rather I had said it was terrible?
If I get a flame from a signed account, I normally send back a cheerful review reply. If it's an annoymous review, I just smile, because it shows that they obviously enjoyed my fic enough to read it;D
I think flaming is a dying art. The last flame I got was copy/pasted to the first five or six stories on the listing. There's no excuse for that sort of cheesy aggression. I was disappointed that I hadn't gotten individualized attention, though the flamer suggested a number of entertaining things about my story that are essentially against the laws of nature. Really, if someone is going to try to cut me to shreds (a tall order - I've got a hide tougher than armor) they should at least have the decency to attack me personally and not to make blanket statements.
I got a really bitchy review as well saying about my troyella story saying that is was liek to many other troyella stories so the person was gonna stop reading it is reallly hurtful and mean when someone disrespects ur story especailly when u have spent a lot of time on it
Well i had many good reviews, and a few bad ones, one saying i should, and an other saying my hands should be chopped off, one saying a two year old could write better. Slowly breaking my spirit/confindance, but when i posted my first story, for a harry potter, i didn't know much about the books. I had really good reviews, with constrictivism, but one day for fun i typed in my pen name...........and well this site came up....the peeple on it don't care about what they say, they bash stories for fun.....they don't give any critsime at all, on how to improve it, they just bash, simple as.
http://pottersues.livejournal.com/591135.html?thread=57363231
I've not been in receipt of a flame, which isn't a fact I really care about.
The simple truth is that there's always going to be someone out there who will lack common courtesy and proceed to make somebody else upset, whether that is purely for their own enjoyment or that the material actually affronted them.
I'm a writer that treads thin ice with my shonen-ai and yaoi fictions (apparently) and to find that there have been no flames as of yet it is quite amazing. I'll admit that there are a few things in fanfiction that I am not keen on myself - for example song-fics - but whenever I review these it usually begins with 'Although I'm not a big fan of song-fics, I liked how... yada yada'. You get the picture. I don't like to come off as being needlessly cruel when giving reviews so I balance what I say listing good points and things to improve.
Heh, I've been flamed - once. This was back in the days before ff.net decided to implement a (bloody awful) new system complete with review replies etc., although it was an anonymous flame, so that wouldn't have helped much. Anyway, I wrote a response, stuck them both with the rest of the reviews/responses for that chapter at the bottom of the next chapter I uploaded, and now it serves to give readers something to laugh and review about :D
In all honesty, I'm quite amazed that if that fanfic got flamed, most of my others haven't shrugs I'd only pull a story if the ff.net admins got involved, until then I'll break the rules as and when each fanfic of mine demands ;)
i just recived a review from a person that had a name but there was no way to reply to them. "just fyi oi, means yes idiot" from a lucille.
i dont mind when people send me stuff about mistakes but first of all do research and secondly dont call me an idiot.
i made myself feel better by writing a little message on the newest chapter in my story in hope that the person would see it, because i could not send a message back.
i don't like to do things like that but they got me irritated by calling me an idiot when they didn't know what they were talking about.
>>71 I had a similarly one-liner nasty remark on an Inuyasha fic I wrote from lucille!!! (I assume you write Inuyasha because of your username). Guess he/she must just be some random f-wit with nothing better to do than go around the Inuyasha section looking for small things to pick on and be mean about!
Ignore him/her!
I read this KandaxOC fic one time... and I had to admit, it wasn't the best story I read, but I was compelled to read it anyway. Being the weirdo I am, I read her reviews and came by one heck of a reviewer. Take a look:- http://www.fanfiction.net/r/4045156/ she literally copied the entire story and wrote her own comments and thoughts of it throghout the entire thing. Sure the fic was bad, but that was just overboard dude
Constructive criticism are good, but bitchy reviews are the worst thing ever. I once deleted my story for it too. It doesnt help when they get personal.
>>73
WOAAHH. i have just looked at all hashires reviews for that story. (which was rather awesome BTW).
He/She must have a LOT of spare time. Or just like picking bones:D
Someone gave me a horrible review saying that they hated my story and that I couldn't write. I couldn't see anything wrong with my story and other people said it was great!
That Hashire person must have had a LOT of spare time I agree with you BettieMac! That is so mean!!!
dudes, I found yet another one:-
http://www.fanfiction.net/r/5196452/
now this reviewer has serious issues....
I've never been flamed (at least that I remember) which I'm thankful for but I'm surprised I haven't because I know I'm not the best writer ever, although I'm improving but everytime I'm alerted on a new review in my inbox I still worry that its going to say that somebody doesn't like my story.
But thankfully the people who read it like it which I'm grateful for.
But yes, I've seen some nasty reviews on other stoires and they are never called for. People are ignorant and obviously have no life so they flame.
PsychoChick666, put your story back up! Don't let that one person get you down. There are always going to be haters but just think of the ones tha loved your story and the ones that will love it!
Ignore Mat. If you pay any attention to his stupid crap, you just reinforcing his pathetic need for attention. I'm not applying this to flamers in general, who flame more out of anger than narcissism, but Mat doesn't pick stories to flame based on quality or anything--or even pairing or character, which would be wildly moronic but at least comprehensible--and that means he's safely ignorable.
Also, don't take it out on anyone else he mentions in reviews, because they have nothing to do with his stupid flames.
i find my personal strength to be in the odd, unique and sometimes enterprising ideas i have...
though my weakness is definately my shear lasiness and my easiness to distract... and my lack of confidence my my own writing..
T.T
I read what Mat said, and to be honest, who cares how many people are going to support HIM, when he's too cowardly to make his 'review' anonymous. I mean, as of yet, I've never received a negative review which I'm grateful for. But once, I read a fic on fanfiction (dot) net and a flamer really criticized the fiction, and out of curiosity, I went onto the flamers profile, and it shocked me. I hope I never get really badly flamed. Their standards are so high. =S
To be honest, I found that review from Mat to be almost endearing. It's hard to take something like that as a serious, personal attack when they're clearly only tangentially connected to the same plane of reality as you.
I find that most flamers are absolute idiots, who are just those annoying people in life who try to bring others down to make themselves feel better.
One of my stories is based around an OC in an alternate universe, and flamers just love to have a rotten go at us OC writers (which I can understand sometimes, cause there are some god awful Mary-sue fics out there - but still no need to be abusive). I just don't understand why they read the sorts of stories that they know they will hate - it's rather sad. But this person when I replied to them with a calm, intelligent retort failed (with very bad spelling too) and could not find any fault within my reasoning to them. Honestly if you confront them in an adult manner, no petty jibes, they go into a panic and don't know what to say. Trust me ;). The fact this person hinted that I should just go die was rather sick, which just speaks volumes about that person's character.
But I remember one Kingdom Hearts fic I did, and I killed Leon/Squall off at the beginning (of course, the idea of the story is that he doesn't die due to time travel). Some rabid fangirl decided to call me all sorts of names for killing her precious Leon. I just laughed my socks off XD. Honestly some people take the fantasy too far, it's rather scary.
I've been flamed and I found it helpful. I was heading down Mary Sue road. But than again, they were a bit TOO critical for my liking. But there are always bitchy reviewers around, so really, theres not really much we can do besides fighting back and telling them you don't give a crap. They're probably trying to be cool.
I just hate how an OC automatically becomes a Mary Sue. Sometimes, OC's are essential for the background of the fic, just as long as not everything about them is perfect or related completely to them.
I like honesty, but I do think you have to be classy (sorry my mind is tierd and it's the only word that pops into my head)about how you put your critcisms. I really try not to be down putting and have once or twice been paranoid that I might put someone off, but what's the point of reviews if you run away at negative remarks. On the other hand if you are just shouting your mouth off with nothing good to back it up with then you need to get a life. Most stories take a lot of work and are precious to someone so poinless insults, particulary personal ones, are as far as I am concerned pathetic.
I have only had one flameer, really had a go at me but I have a wyrd sense of humour so I found it hysterically funny and I told him so, simply thanking him for enhauncing my evening. He didn't reply. It was a truely aweful story though. Hee hee.
Flaming is something I personally find immature. If you found something about the fic was sub standard e.g. the spelling or grammar was poor, the you should bring it calmly to the persons attention without malice. There is no reason to be hurtful.
After all, posting up a fic is posting something that means a lot to you and that shouldn't be discouraged. If someone tries to flame you, just don't let it rile you. If they make a point you hadn't thought of but consider plausible, check it just to be sure but don't feel pressured into changing things if you really can't see where they're coming from.
Flamers aren't worth acknowledging. Merely reply to them politely and maturely. If they persist in being abusive then report them because that is unfair and not allowed.
I've never been flamed but I hate it when people review with one liners. I got one saying "I don't like it."
Ok, what don't you like? The pairing? The writing style? The ending? The grammar?
Yea I have been flamed before, and it's ok if it's just like a little comment about the way the storyline runs or something, but when it get's person it's just petty. I mean the point of fanfiction is that it is from the fans point of view eg the author and if you judge a person on their story thats just stupid. I get very disheartened when people have a go at me becasue i write something a bit too ott for them. For example I wrote a mature themed gay fanfiction, and there were very clear warnings in the summary, yet someone still told me it was "wrong and immoral and sick etc etc", if they don't like it they didn't have to read it. It just get's on my nerves!
oh and also another thing that is annoing is the vague "That was crap" well thanks that's really useful and constructive isn't it!
>>90 >>92 I agree. It's one thing to say "This is a crappy story" and quite another to say "You are a crappy person for writing this story." Those are both hair-pullingly vague, obviously, but you know what I mean.
The one exception to this is when an author displays serious prejudices. If a story made me uncomfortable with its racism/sexism/homophobia/whatever, I would say "Stop being prjudiced," not "Stop writing a prejudiced story."
Yeah!
There was this one review I got where the flamer basically started b******g on me and not the story!!
It also happened to my friend xxxLCxxx.
innocent chuckle Well, one girl once reviewed my wife's story, saying how bad it was... that she should go end her life... And all of that, pointing out every single mistake she'd made. Right. Her first language's not English. She's got some issues with the grammar and punctuation. But NO ONE tells my wife to go kill herself. I hacked the whole thing and found out who she was, sending her something nice back in the same style as my reply to mr/ms/mrs IHateThisWebsite in the Oh hello thread. I never heard of her again, and apparently she's vanished from the site ever since. I never really got a flame myself, except for a 'Dude wtf' on a Matilda story, in whcih I had Miss Honey recall how Trunchbull abused her in all ways she did; sexually, too. I sent her something nicely back as well, saying that I would appreciate at least something constructive, and that her review clearly wasn't, and according to it, no one should hope to get anything constructive from her... and a lot more things that I don't dare say here. LOL She replied, saying all of it was her nephew's fault, who'd been on her account and everything... I think she was right, since the reply was very decent and all, but I'm pretty sure her nephew will never get on that profile again! ;)
Well, this is from someone who writes critical reviews, I sometimes get a bit bitchy - does it count if I actually give advice, like 'the narrative is very slow at this point' or 'you describe things too much' and so on, I just don't bother sugar-coating it, so for all the writers out there who got a lot of writing tips without the sugar, but I feel sorry for those people who get reviews saying "you're EFFED UP for writing that" or "you should go away and die" my advice - fuck their report, it's your story and if they can't handle your take on what you're writing about, then they should go take their own advice.
Be strong writers, we're not here to be very very nice and give hugs, we write, we give critiques and we try and help each other get better at it, the rest is just shit.
>>96 i completely agree!!!
they really need to think about what they are saying to people, i mean they don't know how people really are mentally. there could be a writer out there how writes to get things out and if some one told them to go die or something who knows, maybe they would actually follow the advice. you never know, crazier things have happened.
although i personally do the sugar coat a little bit but most of the stories i've read are already taken care of. i mean i know you can always improve but ,yeah, you get what i'm saying.
Yeah, there's a problem though; people who 'write to get stuff out', it's fine, but they should keep it in a journal, it's bloody dangerous if they make themselves so vulnerable, as there are people who take the liberty to drip acid on them and imagine them writhing - sickening, but who gave them the chance to do so in the first place? In fanfiction.net I warn people on my page that in that arena I'll read material and treat it like it's meant to be proper writing, if people put out cliched, purely egotistical (or extremely emotional) work I'll give them a bit of a whip-lash in their style and narrative, characterisation and so on, just to remind them they're in a place where some might like to treat their material as a means to get through to their poor bleeding hearts. Sometimes its worth being a little harsh just to remind them the world isn't like their therapy group.
>>98 that is true.... never really thought of it that way
(sighs) well, everyone loses their innocence at some point
>>98 I agree wholeheartedly. If someone puts their writing up on FFN or another public archive, then I expect it to meet some basic standards whatever the author's situation. If an author is going to use their situation (if she's very young, for instance, or a nonnative English speaker) as a defense against basic critiques, then she probably shouldn't be posting her stories on a site explicitly designed to make reviewing easy.
That's not to say "You suck, GTFO!" or anything, but while I don't have the right to tell people to leave the archive, THEY do not have the right to be exempt from criticism because they're 11 or they're "just writing for themselves" or whatever. By putting stories up in public, an author is implicitly opening herself to comments, even negative ones.
>>101
I agree with that even if i'm a nonnative speaker.
thought the reviewers should also consider at HOW much the author had tried in the story. and there is always a nice way to point out to the author their weaknesses.
I have in my profile a simple sentence "i hope my english are good enough to understand me cause im not a native speaker"
but never ever asked ppl to be nice because of that fact.
and my wonderful reviewers have been nice to me so far and i feel really luck to have them.
another thing. i think every writer writes a bit for themselves :)
i mean it might sound narcissist but I LOVE my stories.
actually my writing style is exactly how i like the stories im reading to be. so yeah im do write for myself BUT if i was writing ONLY for myself i would never publish anything ;)
Well that's exactly what it's about, so I'm happy you found that - when you feel you've found your style of exactly how you like your story to be like then that's what all of this is all about
LOL guys, i wrote one of my reviews, telling her the form needed tidying up, the speech needed separating from the narrative, paragraphs and stuff, actually useful advice, and added "overall, the story's not... awful"
she wrote back
"If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all"
PFFAAHAHAHA did she think we were here to give out hugs and sweets or what?
>>103
I wrote a review on a 130 something words story chapter !!!
"I agree with the ppl who reviewed already.
try to space it.
also please dont use (...) author notes in the story put them in the beginning or the end they cut the flow otherwise.
as for the plot...
I am afraid to ask but I will ask anyway.
Have you seen the Japanese Original episodes??
let's leave the Seiya thing to the side since a lot of fans believe that Haruka hates her so I am kind of Used to it.
Haruka NEVER EVER called Usagi "moon face"[in the original]
also in this story Haruka seems to be a bit rude with Usagi. No matter what, in both Amine and Manga Haruka was never Rude with Usagi.
Only in the Dub actually all those things happened
anyway it is your story and you write it they way you like, I am just a bit turned off, with all the dub references that's all"
and she replied in two messages:
1st: "well this was my useing sailor moon characters plus in english i heard serena? be called moon face by amara? the question marks because i'm used to the japanese version so i'm rusty on english and from what i know haruka and were suppose to be on bad terms"
2nd: "it's just a little hard for me to get this right"
you make your conclusions
awwww, lol. Good review!
>>105
i tried really hard not to be rube :s
because i dont like to be rude, im a gentle(wo)man :D
and Ouji-sama as ppl thing :P
and since i dont like other to be rude to be i dont to it either
but all those DUB shit really made me to loose my temper :s
Well I think a little rudeness does help, i mean, I've been rude sometimes to bring the message home that the story just wasn't good enough.
Look at it this way... They read the story. They had a reaction... and bothered to post.
Be it OMG you suck etc, or Wow that was really good. Its a reaction.
When you write a story you write to evoke emotions. You got some :P
Personally... Twilight blows. Sparkly Vampires? Please. But if others like it... who am i to complain.
Who was talking about Twilight? I think things like Twilight and Harry Potter are like Hollywood; of course its an expression of art but actually, its a style that makes a lot of money and they're going to make them again and again until the trend of what makes money changes.
I had a review that said i needed to find a new hobby because i obviously do not know how to write and my writing was a shame to read.
they finished it with 'hope to see you off the internet soon'
is that a fair review? I think it's just a flame and not a fair comment.
>>110 actually nobody forced them to read your story
and it is pointless to be just so bitter to someone.
what your loyal readers think is what matters.
I have some difficulty seeing how 'get off the internet' could not be a flame...
well Electrical Storm (love the name, one of my fav songs), i give critical reviews all the time but that was just a real bitch, that person is not worth listening to. Prime example of someone who likes to stab and watch authors bleed, it happens a lot.
Tell you what, lets stab them back, if you like you could post us the link of your story and we'll read it and give you useful reviews (i promise to be very very nice, if not at least to spite that guy!) hows that?
and by useful i meant 'this is really good, i love the use of .... etc etc"
Don't listen to people who flame you - they're probably just doing it becuase they have their own personal problems and they're angry and want to blame someone else. It's just like a bully. The best solutions? Ignore their pitiful bullying, or laugh about what they say.
Yea just ignore it or laugh them off. Ive had a few "OMFG what where you thinking this is soooo stupid!", i did give my warning if they dont like it dont read it, But they do anyways
I'm not afraid to give critical reviews when necessary. If I'm doing something wrong, I'd like to know about it. I also try to find what they did right to. It's rare that a story is so bad it doesn't have any redeeming qualities, but also rare that a story is perfect and can't be made better
yeah i know, i got an anonymous review saying i was a b*ch and my story was retarded, ONLY BECAUSE I DIDN'T UPDATE FOR A WEEK.
>>118
If you got such review for a week what will i get that i havent updated for a month :s
I'm scared now T_T
oh, yeah, being called nasty names makes me just want to run out and update my stories. I can't imagine why some people think such conduct is acceptable or will get the results they want!
I didn't get a flame per say, but someone kept reviewing 'finish your stories!' Which confused me, because I clearly pointed out that both my stories would be getting updated regularly, though this person acted like I hadn't reviewed in years or something.
Left me very confused :S
Well, you could take it as a compliment - for instance, they are so hooked on your stories that they are absolutely desparate for further updates. ;)
>>78 by the way if you look up Mat49324 on ff.net he says it's not him who wrote those reviews, and I believe him, because his typing is much more improved than whoever wrote those silly reviews in such poor spelling and grammar. Plus, why in the world would he do that using his own penname and then claim it isn't him? That's just stupid so I believe him, and whoever's writing flames using his penname they're the one/s who are to blame. Mean A-hole/s.
Oh, and I never got a flame for any of my stories...yet I guess o_o. >>121 haha, I got a similar thing; it's darn annoying, it's not a constructive criticism - it's a demand! Rude too, when you think about it...duh.
Always some romance (can't help it)
Sometimes jealousy from woman to woman even if one woman is just a friend to the centre of the triangle.
Missing mothers returning is one I like and also close bonds of friendship. Like 'twin' close.
The trick with snarky reviews is to make them so sarcastic that the writer doesn't realise you're insulting them. Name calling and profanity just make you look childish. There's nothing wrong with snark for a fic that is beyond help, but it should never be used when a fic needs concrit instead.
I've never had a flame fortunately, the closest I've ever come was someone telling me the mistakes I'd had in my story, which was very useful and I thanked them for it but saying my story wasn't plausible kinda bugged me.
>>125 Well, I'm not sure; I can't quite understand why someone would do that all for attention, unless he wants to be flamed and likes it. Which would then lead me to think he is a bit mad in the head for being a chronic attention-seeker on the net.
I was thinking the anon flamer was most likely a writer whom Mat hasn't even met and just hates him for his writing shrug the flamer randomly snapped and vowed a personal vendetta? maybe that's a bit unlikely when you think about it heh.
But maybe you're right, maybe you're not. I don't know for sure either. If he's doing it for attention, then he's one troubled person, that's all I'll say.
I had someone yell at me for giving Gambit a Cajun accent, when apparenty, 'in New Orleans we don't speak like that'. I honestly have no idea how people speak in New Orleans, I'm just trying mebest to write Gambit's accent like it is on TV! I can't help it if they got it wrong!
Actually, it was X-men evo, in which Gambit has hardly any screen time. :( But still, Cajun accent!
i got a really bitchy one for an AH story for Maximum Ride, where the main character is really pathetic and wimpy, and in the actual books, shes really strong and stuff.
I quote 'FLAME WARNING! DON'T BURN YOURSELF!
ready? go!
!$!@# $!@%!@ $!#%^$^^ E%$$TY@!
i feel good. okay, this is so out of character. max is a damsel in distress, she would have just beat the crap out of him. and if i just met a girl, i wouldn't go punching a guy, seriously, he didn't need to beat him up and look all heroic, expulsion much? plus: max is so effing pathetic i almost threw up, i wish i could throw up on you. i wish i could sign you up for 'good writing' class too. it's not that you can't write, it's just that you can't write WELL. or ACCURATELY.
my 8 year old cousin can write better, and he's an idiot.'
I actually laughed. I luv it when people try to be mean by technology, its just so damn stupid!
I've only had one super bitchy review; and it was absolutly aweful! It made me want to cry! It was my favorite story, so I had to delete it :( and I've rewritten it about 500 times now! Just because of that one review.
Luckily I mainly write Yaoi ffs, and for some reason I hardly get bad reviews. (I kinda expected to, since, well, y'know). I think if the flame is too long or too poshly written (basically almost every flame in existence) it's just because the flamer is too stuck up their own arse to think that your story is good. I love constructive critisism, so it's important to be able to see the difference between a critisism and a flame.
@Kyuubi, if they don't like it. Tell them to stop talking where the sun don't shine!
If ONE person doesn't like it, delete their comment and let the people who enjoy your story to enjoy it. :/ You don't have to listen to them because THAT ONE PERSON doesn't like it.
@Elkkun Thanks! You're right!
@Kyuubi, no problem :)
Hi there! I have had a few bad reviews before and it sucks. I wrote one story and everyone loved, I based more real life, anyway I did a sequel to it and again choose something that was more real life, by the third chapter I had people telling me that they couldn't read it, that the thought of Jasper dying (Twilight) was too much for them.
I did an AN explaining that I love the boy's that I created, mine always are OOC, and I know just where I'm going with it, I did think about deleting the story and everything but I didn't. I got over 600 reviews for a 25 chapter story and I would say that 20 or less were bad the rest were great.
Yes I made my readers cry at times, but I gave them the HEA they were looking for.
This is one of the problems in fandom is the bad reviews, screw them, if they don't like it then they don't have to read it, we as authurs no our story better then anyone, we spend the time to sit and write out the chapters, and we shouldn't get slated for it, but we do.
I write adult themed stories, but sometimes you can get people who are maybe to young to handle the adult lines.
NEVER delete or stop writing just becuase of bad reviews, with the bad you get the good and your loyal readers will stick by you and trust in what you are doing.
Stay true to the story and true to yourself, don't change for no one!
Rant over, sorry
All this reminds me of a few reviews I got when I was younger...I'll find them, tell me what you think.
"that wasn't all i said retard, and for you're information, there was more wrong with your stupid story other than the lack of friggin' logic in the beginning. what the hell does two guys trapped in the debris of the twin towers have to do with a guy having a heart attack and falling off a cliff? the story is dumb, imagination or not because it is poorly written. i was not even giving you a flame, it was stuff that i thought you might take to mind and make this story better but it is still the same damn garbage i read before. so stop complaining and write something other than a total piece of crap. and i said i was sorry, but now i'm not, so just shut up." <- that person DID apologise laster but...that was just uncalled for :|
and this one
"You are a terrible writer." <- NO DETAIL WHATSOEVER! :)
This one isn't really a flame...But it was still pretty wierd.
"Internet vampires are not scary.
Characters in The World don't even have real blood." it was from my .hack// fanfiction. :)
Oh, they must've deleted the one that really annoyed and upset me. It was by a person called 'Flame Rising' they hadn't even written any of their own stories and they were flaming mine saying I couldn't write or anything... pfft, can't find it on my hotmail either :). Oh well.
Tell me what you think of them. XF
So... You write your characters OOC in fanfiction, and are then slated by reviewers. I wonder why that could be?
If you want to write OOC characters, write original fiction. There is no point in writing fanfiction where your versions of the characters only share superficial similarities with their canon counterparts.
The number of good reviews something receives are not always indicative of quality. Look at the popularity of 'Big Brother', of 'Twilight'. The source of each review is more important. An acquaintance of mine wrote a terrible, clichéd, plot-hole ridden story (on purpose, to prove that rubbish is popular) filled with OOC characters. She got hundreds of praising reviews.
There is another writer (who shall remain nameless) who writes awful OOC Reno/Tifa fanfic, and receives fifty good reviews to every bad one. The bad ones, however, are written by people who can string a sentence together and, moreover, spell it.
There is no excuse for OOC fanfic, unless it is parody.
@... I have own characters in my fictions mostly. I only started writing OC's when I made them X|.
The reason I do OC's is because I can't really put myself in somebody elses position unless....I've literally got that character down inside my head, and that's REALLY hard to do. For me anyway.
Most my characters are OOC. But...Meh I was about 13-14 when I wrote them so. IDC.
Umm see that's the thing, I have never been slated for being OOC, jesus they may as well slate everyone who takes the vampires in Twilight and turns them human.
Most in the section that I write in are OOC, it's impossible not be OOC with them, we didn't create them so we don't know them, how I read Edward and Bella in Twlight is different from how you read her and others. The same thing all the time is boring, this is why we play with them and create different worlds for them.
There is no harm in OOC, you feel there is and that's your choice, coming at me because I wrote a message on here about bad reviews is one thing, but coming at me because I write OOC? What's all that about?
I think you're confusing AU with OOC. It's fine to write a vampire as a human, if the fic is AU. It is not, however, fine to write a character out of character in the emotional sense. When I say OOC, I refer to people writing things like:
'Yo, what's up, me homies?' said Edward Cullen as he adjusted his bling.
Again, AU is fine if it's clearly stated to be such. OOC should be punishable with death. You admitted writing OOC in your previous post, which is why I drew attention to it. If you simply got the terms AU and OOC confused, then my point probably does not apply to you.
Unless you write the travesty that is OOC AU.
Also, there's nothing wrong with putting your own interpretation on a character, but you have to know where to draw the line. If not, write original fic.
Oh, and OOC is not the same as OC. The main problem with OCs is that they frequently turn into Mary Sues, but that's a different matter for a different thread...
:3 -giggle- hopefully my OC's ain't like that then...
If anybody cares to read my fiction...-puts link to my website in my name-
The stories 'Our Little Game', 'meeting the opposite' and 'The Twins' are the only ones I care about...(You'd probably understand them alot more if you've heard of or played Left4Dead.)
Hold your breath.
You can stop holding your breath now.
Out
Of
Character
Ah, true. I was referring to the fact that the acronyms stood for different phrases, but you're right. An OOC OC is possibly the height of a fanfiction author's stupidity...
I am sure someone will be able to think of a phenomenom that brings the above point into question.
Lol, i love bitchy reviews, they're fantastic! Case in point this is a review I recieved about a story,
'OMG what the heck. I'm sorry. Umm the ending was rushed unfulfilling and entire false to the original. Do you know why people read stories like Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice? DO YOU? Who cares if people like Darcy doesn't really exist?? THAT'S not the POINT! PEOPLE READ IT TO HAVE A SENSE OF ROMANCE LOVE AND HOPE!! TO DREAM THAT EVEN IF IT WON'T HAPPEN TO THEM IT COULD HAPPEN SOMEWHERE SOMETIME! TO KILL off on of the MOST beloved character and RUIN the story just because you don't believe that men like DARCY can really EXIST??! ARE you stupid!!?? I THINK YOU ARE. Please stop writing other stupid stories for your amusement where you put your own opinion and ruin the original. Frankly I suggest you erase this story before some other innocent Jan Austen and Pride and Prejudice loving romantic comes along and be crushed of his/her hopes because you felt it in you to kill off the main character and ruin the original masterpiece. Oh and by the way I am beyond disappointment if you wanted to know, when i first read this it didn't pick up at some parts and went too fast and rushed at some parts. And frankly my dear the ending seems VERY rushed unthoughtful and as if you just want to get it over with because you can't think of anything. Well nice try but I don't think you'll make it that far if you keep up this writing. Thank you for ruining my favorite story.'
Signed anon, LOL made my day, they even threatened to set up a hate site dedicated to me, I'd LOVE that, I'd visit everyday! :D
that review is actually quite hilarious
at least they spoke their mind
What I like is the fact that they threw a random Gone With The Wind quote in there!
I had visions of Rhett Butler just standing there shaking his head... :D
I don't get why they say "I'm sorry" then call you stupid in caps with excess punctuation. Also, they actually type "umm", I mean who types a filler word?
Well, yes that bitchy review and your attitude towards it made me laff :) :L HAHA :P
But my friend got a bichy review and cried and never contineed her story. I mean, what's the point in these horrible reviews? IF theres something wrong then you say it nicely right?
Oh, man, I'd be totally pumped if I got a flame like that! Actually, that's not even a flame, it's just another form of love!
When I leave cruel (or hilarious, depending on your POV) reviews, they usually go as follows:
'Hmm, you weren't kidding when you said you were on crack when you wrote this, huh? :P Your author's notes are really effective at explaining your fics; keep it up! As far as concrit goes, I guess you could invest in a virus, but then the ff.net server might not thank you, lol! XD Nah, actually, I reckon it's too late... Oh well...sighs I'm going to go and read something else now, bye! :D '
More often than not, I get a friendly reply from the person I review. My friends and I have a good, cheap laugh. It's a lot of fun!
Really, people just have a giant ego, don't they, when writing those kinds of reviews? It also shows their stupidity/blindness if there is a warning of things they wouldn't like to read in the summary. It's like, 'didn't you read the warning?? fool' haha.
Although, you might like to look at your own writing to see if maybe a part of the problem could be by you too; you never know if it isn't totally.
ohmigosh... then I should be slaughtered for putting up such AU's like I did, too.
If I got a review like that, I'd find it funny. I suppose it depends on whether or not you have a sense of humor. I might not agree with it, but I'd admire a more creative flame, and I'd PM the author with a 'lol' and a 'where should I start changing things, then?' If you are letting a complete stranger's opinion distress you over FANFIC, you really need to get out more.
If someone gives you reasons to not like it, I say consider what they have to say. They might be right, or maybe not.
Aahh...I've never been flamed before...but then most of my fics are pretty low-key. Low-key, is that the word?
I stick with basic things, but I am trying to do some introspective, kinda complicated things but I'm still not entirely too sure on it.
Flamers need to get a life. I'll admit I'm pretty sensitive, but I can shake off most annoyances.
And if someone did flame me, I'll unleash my mouth :p
It really annoys me when people are so rude about stories I've written! Once when I replied to an incredibly rude review I got to a Doctor Who story, the kept replying to me and being even worse. If they don't like the story, fine, whatever, but that doesn't mean they can just insult you and your ideas. They can dislike a story without being rude-they can give constructive criticism.
It is so anoying when people don't care about other people's feelings and submit really rude reviews.
I've never actually had a rude review (I've had a couple that bordered, but never a bad'un.) One of my friends had three in as many hours the other week though, one of which advised her to kill herself. It drove her to the point where she was going to delete everything, but I had an argument with the flamer who hadn't meant it as badly (this wasn't the one with murderous tendencies, by the way) and she's not deleting now, but...
It annoys me when I get a bad review, but then I think not all reviews can be nice so I just try to just improve my story. What annoys me most is when hardly any people review, it annoys me no end that.
There is no point to flames, if they just insult you and dont tell you how you could improve the story :)
Flames... they're a natural thing for my fics. It's not that I can't write, it's because I use OCs too much.
Plus I don't get why people have to be so mean because you mis-spel a word or two. I once got a very bitchy review because I spelt conscience wrong. Although what made me laugh about this was the guy who told me I'd spelt it wrong, spelt it wrong himself XD.
e.e Damn thing. *Mispell or whatever, I can't be asked to check it right now.
Hmm... It wasn't right for them to make you so distessed you took down the story, and I know people can be very harsh with the way the say things. I think if you have to say and Fanfic's bad, then you need to 'do it nicely' if that's the right way to say it? Constuctive Critisism (sp? lol) and all that. I think you should put your story back up and not pay attention to someone who can't even tell you how to improve. Chances are they just have nothing better to do. :) Don't get upset, nobody's perfect, but it's those of us that smile and move on that are getting there.
I got my first flame today for my story Pallet Party Panic and I think this 'ken' is totally out of order.
It said,'Please kill yourself, since you don't want to take this piece if ** down.'
I wouldn't have minded so much if I wasn't so proud of the story, I spent time on it and recieved some lovely reviews, but one person just had to spoil it.
I feel quite put out after being told to kill myself it's not nice. And I was having a good day too.
Princess Tiger - I know how you feel, after spending so much time and effort trying to make your story something to be proud of, and recieving lovely reviews until someone has to comment badly, it does put a downer on you and your feelings for your work.
I haven't had such bad reviews as the one you mentioned, but just a few bad ones that discouraged me, just try not to think on them, and just continue with your writing. More often than not these people don't have accounts and just like writing awful things, most don't even have their own story, so they could just be jealous!
Don't let it get to youu, keep writing xD
x Casondrah Kiku x
i got my first bitchy review for my Naruto story. i am working on fixing a problem i didn't see originally (it's an obvious mistake and i kick myself for not finding it) and i just got this review from airnaruto45
"Kushina was from the Whirlpool village not the waterfall village you moron" defiantly not as bad as some of the ones that go up here, but figured i'd share. ^_^
I got a flame for one of my Jack/Ianto stories (Torchwood fandom). It was along the lines of:
"This is the worst story I have EVER seen in my LIFE! How the hell can you put these two wonderful, clearly straight men together? They are obviously not together on the show, and therfore you are an idiot!"
I was like, what show are you watching?!
Sounds sarcastic to me...
>>175 o_O Oh my gosh, really? I would've e-punched them in the face (because I really like that pairing. >_> Even though I don't watch Torchwood that often, but my friend sends me scenes of them two. xD)
I have yet to recieve or give flames, though i have got some very constructive critism. I just wanted to say that i don't know why anyone would specifically write insults, statements that someone should die and even threats, like some of what's been repeated here. These people are bullies who think it's funny to trash people's hard work when they are in NO POSITION to comment. For thse who've posted here saying they laugh at these flames of cowardlyness YAY!!! For those who removed/ stopped working on their fics PLEASE don't let these f**kers get to you flame them back asking them how many fics they've written and where you can find them so you can check them out and see if they can stand the heat- or if they are even writers! Stay storng in the struggle (heh) against morons of flaminess! LOVE YA ALL!!!
-gives Princess Tiger a MASSIVE hug- :P I was told to.
Well it was either that or get run over by a ghost train D:
My first fic, Control, is still ongoing. It's Teen Titans fic with BBRae pairing. It's written in 3rd person but from BB's oint of view, never referring to any of BB's names in the narrative, but instead using 'he' all the time. It's rather OOC for BB, namely being rather emo, but I didn't get any complaints on that. I personally think it's gotten weaker as it's gone on since my style has shifted away from lots n' lots of detail on feelings and thoughts, but that style suited the fic. Obviously, when I decided to continue it the problem of including any other male character made itself blatant. However, it was (not sure if it is anymore) popular and I've got a fic, Concern, further behind in the story written in the same manner from Raven's POV.
Thanks for the hugs guys! I feel much better now, I alsogot a second review from a different reviewer basically telling the flamer that he was an a-hole and that my story was good, so thanks to them too!
Omigod last time i was on here the posts were at something between 40-50
i've just been reading through all of them (took me so frickin long)
glad y'all had a chance to rant about your own experiences and stuff, and lol with Matt-dude 'Frankly my dear' and Ianto-Jack straight men
hugs to princess tiger too
i got one really bitchy reveiw - i apparently copied Uncle Jazzy (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5096875/1/Uncle_Jazzy) for someone else. for the simple reason mines had the same character in the same place.
the other story - Jenks sees Alice & Jasper at the mall...realsies that Jasper isn't as much of a monster as he thought but will still kill him if he messes up. It's one chapter
My story - Four chapters, Jenks & wife are at mall when he sees Jasper buying ice-cream for nessie. the cashier makes nessie cry and alice & rosalie appear & go crazy. Jenks realises that the Cullen women are terrifying. The next chapters are to do with Jasper & Bella going to Jenks & Jessica seeing them.
i'm sorry but i've read stuff where someone has basically copied and pasted stuff and posted it as their own, or taken the same ideas then tweaked them a bit. the person who flamed had like three of the same story by different authors in their favourite list...pffft.
another thing...people who moan at you when you take ages to update. i'll probably get that when i update uncle jazzy (real lifes been too hectic at the momment to sit down and write) but i mean, c'mon, we have real lifes too
@OCDx
I agree with you about how annoying it is when people moan at you because you are apparently taking ages to update. I normally find that those people do not have stories of their own and don't understand that for some people, writing of any sort is at times a long and/or a difficult process, or that other things do come before writing, such as life.
As for flamers and bitchy reviewers in general, they are there to be ignored. I will take in and consider any review that contains constructive criticism any day, but I write for my own satisfaction, not for reviews. =)
I once had someone who told me to delete a fic that I hadn't updated in a bit because she was getting 'disappointed'. I mean, no offense to anyone who CAN update their fics on a regular basis, but I'm not getting paid for this, and I have a life. Not to mention I have two fics with the same exact pairings that she can distract herself with >_<;
Sometimes I can write 5000+ word chapters within a week; other times it takes me a month or two due to rewriting/drafting and having to do some outside research. People can't expect GOOD fanfics to pop out of nowhere - I hate being rushed and usually take even longer to even LOOK at that fic just to spite them ._.
lol.
I just read through this entire forum page because everyone had something interesting and valid to say.
What needs to be remembered is that some flamers are in fact "trolls", and they usually belong to another site (not mentioning any names...) They purposfully send horrible reviews to obtain a reaction and laugh about it. Because they have nothing better to do.
So reviews with things such as "kill yourself" are more than likely to be from the not-so-creative-troll. I have it on good authority that these people are shunned, even by other trolls...
@Sugarpuff: i totallt get the updating thig. I haven't updated in ages because I haven't had the spare brain power to think of something decent to write, let alone the spare time to write it...
...oops. Typing errors...
Man it sure seems like some people here have had some damned nasty difficulties.
Nalanna has brilliantly pointed out that trolls are exactly what they sound like. Hideous creatures with no lives, who have nothing better to do.
If someone has trolled you, or you believe you have been trolled, ignore the post and contact someone else whom you have either checked the reputation of, or that you trust to review your story, and hae them check it out. It'll help build your confidence back up to have someone genuinely trying to help you and there are penty of people around who would probably be glad to give people a boost with their writing.
You're spot on there Ran Fan.
After all, FanFiction is meant to be a community for writers and those who love a fandom to get together and share their works - Not everybody is a man-eating troll who is out to get you. Most are genuine, caring people who would be more than willing to help a struggling writer out, as I'm sure most of you here can testify. Sure, you'll get the occasional flamer who'll creep out from underneath their cyber rock, but it's best just to ignore them; they get less out of it that way.
I absolutely hate Sirius/OC, especially when it's so absolutely ridiculous and he's like giving up his life for her, and head over heels in love with her, because he wouldn't be like that. I mean, fair enough, sometimes, when written well, it can be quite good, but other times... like when they get married etc., COME ON! That obviously didn't happen in the books, because hello, ermm... she would've been mentioned! Woah, I'm coming off incredibly mean and angry. Ha. There was this one Sirius/Marlene story I liked. I don't mind when it's with another character, but with an OC, most of the time it's just a Mary-Sue.
I also don't really like Sirius/Remus, but it can sometimes be quite cute <3
... and have Robert Jordan do it for you?
Sorry, cheap shot.
My god, I just saw two reviews from the same person asking me 'Where is the author going?' Anon' again... sheesh... Actually he/she was asking me 'cause I mentions Draco in a fanfic set in the Marauders' era. I never got a chance to tell him but actually, it's because my story features 'adds-on' written years later by Lucius and other characters. And I said so in my first chap, in bold letters... really. But I think this is the worst I ever got. Because no flamer would bother with my stories...^^
And I got into a 'comment war' with a troll who set up a FFN account just to flame people around and he flamed a yaoi story, calling the author names. Shouldn't have but I needed to get angry at sth.
Think of flamers on FFN like those on YTB: they are trolls and the only thing we can do is watch them writhe in their own stupidity. And like they say in French (don't know the equivalent in english):
The frog's spit never reaches the white dove.
I havent got a really bitchy review yet, but I hate it when people say things about the plot and such,
"Why did this happen?" BECAUSE I WANTED IT TO!
"Why did he do that?" BECAUSE ITS MY STORY, AND I CAN!
Especially, "But he wouldnt usually do that..."
Aren't fanfics supposed to have some sort of internal consistency and relation to the original setting, though?
If you're going to write out-of-character, why not just stick to OCs?
>>198 You CAN, but you shouldn't. Iaculus is right: Writing characters OOC is bad writing, plain and simple. No one can stop you from writing badly, but reviewers have a right to call you on it.
@Iaculus- BECAUSE THEY'VE TAKEN THE TIME TO WRITE FOR US AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO WRITE FOR US, YOU KNOW, SO DON'T YOU DARE ASK QUESTIONS! THEY ARE DEITIES! THEY CAN LOCATE THE MS WORD ICON, CLICK ON IT AND THEN TYPE! BOW AT THEIR FEET (and leave a praising review)!
Actually, I don't see why the plot would relate to OOC. I mean, if you have a plot different from the original storyline but you keep the characters acting as you think they would, then I think it's okay.
My point is... OOCiness is kind of tricky because we have different visions of it, I think. You describe the characters and have them acting as you think they would. If you can't even do that, what's the point of writing a fanfiction, honestly?
@ 201: Deities? That's cool!^^
Usually, though, there is some plausible explanation for why things are different from canon. That's what I mean by a 'relation' - otherwise, you're basically just doing lawyer-baiting original fiction.
Aye, I see why you said that - actually, I'm sorry to have said it like that because I was reacting more to the anon' post after yours. And I ended up rambling. Sorry about that.
And now I feel stupid - again...

And now I feel stupid - again...
I think the only real excuse for OOC-ness is if the character has gone through something truly personality changing such as war, poverty, witnessing horrific murders and losing someone incredibly close. Basically, things that would change people in real life.
Assuming, of course, that that is not the sort of thing that that character deals with on a daily basis. That's a common pitfall in those sorts of personality-shift stories.
If there's going to be any OOCness, make it funny and witty, not stupid to your own liking, bcause some people just won't get your subtle sense of humour, will detect it and won't like it. When I read an original character saying silly things that don't convince me or make me laugh, it's irritating at best.
Well, humour is different depending on the person. And you can't please everyone. And it depends on the character. If the character himself has a knack for swapping moods in a flash, then... why not use it.
"Make it funny and witty, not stupid to your own liking" - I don't really know what you mean by that. Isn't it kind of contradictory with what you say afterward? And you know, people happen to say silly things in real life. So why shouldn't an original character do it? You sound really serious... my my.
Sometimes, someone would stress a character's trait - Kira's God Complex - to make it funny. Would it be OOC? I don't think so, but again... depends.
any one else have a nasty review from TKD Master? i just got the nastiest review ever from them!
I just had a peek - I was curious but... well. I don't have a clue about Naruto (yeah right, don't kick me^^) but really, I don't see the point. This dude was really... gah, such a jerk! He has no right telling you that... like, some really should know: don't like, don't read, just as you later said. This was a nasty review just for the sake of being nasty. (The day I get a rev' like that, I think the one stupid enough to put it would learn what 'pissed off' means. hugs
It reminds me of a girl who wrote a slash fic for Kyou Kara Maou (I think) and she received such a nasty review, with dude telling her that it's because of 'gay communists asses' like her that everything was falling apart and such stuff.
Someone, give them tutorials so they would find the red square at the top of the page.

>>210 I read the review, and I totally agree with >>211 Tristana.
I don't have a clue abut Naruto either but the person said:
>I really don't like stories where the two inherited the two sannins qualities canonwise (which I hate with extreme passion).
are they complaining because you follow canon? or because you are not. I didn't really get it, and since I don't know the fandom at all, I can't tell.
I saw that you got some wonderful review too, so stick with them. also as long as you are staying truthful to the character and your don't make them OOCs there is no problem with your story. and if someone doesn't like that facts they should read FF.
;)
>>213 I meant:
if someone doesn't like that facts they SHOULDN'T read FF.
damn typos.
To be honest, I didn't see that review as malicious so much as... dense, and displaying a very narrow, specific vision of How A Naruto Story Should Be.
This is fanfic - if you think a story should go in as particular a direction as that, then write it yourself. That's sort of the point, after all.
Well, it all depends on how you take it. And the 'do it yourself if you're not happy' is true. The thing would be to tell them: then, write a tutorial 'The perfect Naruto-fic should contain'... and so on.
And I'm sorry to break it to you, Iaculus, but there are LOADS of narrow-minded dudes on FFN. The thing is not to stay focused on one review/story, it's never too good.
Oh, I'm aware of that - I mean... hello? Naruto fandom? It's just that my inner pedant demanded I point out that the review's source was stupidity, not malice.
As I said, I don't know anything about Naruto. I have a friend who is a fan, and so is her sis' and both are... scarily rabid. I'm too old for Naruto, I guess.
(My inner cranky self just ran into your inner pedant - sorry about that, she ate her leash and won't stay still)
To be honest, I'm not a fan either (for shonen, I prefer a nice, warm serving of Fullmetal Alchemist or Gurren-Lagann by a long shot), but the fandom is indeed... worrisome. Especially regarding the shipping. Oy.
>>211>>213 >>215
thanks. i get so frustrated when people send me things like that. i have had a few people call me an idiot and things like that but this is like the worst one i've gotten in the year and a few months i've been posting. i was talking to the person that just started doing beta for me and used to have anonymous reviews on for those who dont really have an account but really want to review, but if this is the kind of people that will review like that i'm just gonna shut it off.
i know a while ago there was a person writing little reviews that were like "this sucks" and stuff like that and there were a few authors who received that, has anyone else heard of this one? i mean with the what they said it looks like they have read a bunch of people's work.... did they comment on anyone in another fandom? urg. frustrating, but what can you do.... just gotta vent and go on with life (after a nice little note, lol).
I think with regards to the review from TKD Master - maybe he was a little harsh, slightly over opinionated yes, but to be perfectly honest...I've seen worse, at least he offered some semblance of advice to you; making him slightly better than the people who do indeed think it's a good thing to write "This sucks you should stop writing."
It's not nice to get reviews like that, but honestly, that is the perfect example of a review that you respond politely to, given the oppurtunity; be the bigger person and just ignore the git if you don't agree.
I know nothing of Naruto - I'm not an anime fan at all, but honestly, I didn't think the critique was overly nasty. Like I've said, just slightly opinionated.
Sounded more than slightly opiniated though. Yeah, sure there are worse reviewers. And to be perfectly honest, even if it makes him slightly better, I do believe that someone who send such a review ought to leave something for the author to reply. Maybe this is the worst thing with those guys.
I know, you can look their nicks up. But to me, this kind of person don't even want to discuss. You should be able to talk to them, if only to reply.
@Inulover > Really, don't let such guys get at you - long reviews are always tougher but small comments... Think of them as the comments you get on youtube... Like comments from people who just don't have anything else to do with their lives. (Though, if they leave a name or something, find a way to tell them: Thank you for being so enthusiastic! I will write more.^^)
>>222
Lol. thanks... it's just hard to be like that but i will make sure to keep that in mind when i get a review like that again.
>>221
i really should ignore them, but i guess i'm not one for forgetting this.... lol i can be rash at points, but it really errked me about them telling how to write and asking if i got the f-ing point. ya kno?
oh well.... i guess all that's left is to move on and wait for another person to act all 'cool'. life goes on. ^_^
I've never had a flame. I've had a few reviews where people have said things like "I don't like this pairing but I like your fic" which makes me go "what?". I don't know if that's a compliment or not...
>>224
lol i've had a couple of those... some people are confusing.
>>224 I have actually reviewed like that in some cases.
for example. there is this fic that I like [Haruka & Michiru of course] the author starts with Michiru being with a man [that might be my greatest TURN OFF in H&M fics] but the storyline and plot was amazing. so I did review like that: "I really don't like stories that pair Michiru with a man, but yours is actually really good, and I want to read more"
that means that the story was so good that a major detail didn't really made me close the window. why say something like that, if I really love the story?
I think is the need to make clear my opinion and that I don't really like the idea of having a lesbian being happily engaged to a man by choice, but the story is great nonetheless. it means that they portraited it so good that you can actually see the character as bisexual.
>>226
i see your point.
>>227 I am glad I make sense :s
The difference is between mentioning that there's a sort of story you're not so keen on, and trying to write the fic for them, at which point you might as well start your own (as, admittedly, I did with the Doorstop). Inulover's reviewer seemed to be stating his preferences as objective fact, which is never a good idea.
@Iaculus- Ah, but what if it's just your preference that people don't state their preferences as fact? For then, you are stating your preference ('never a good idea') as fact! It boggles the mind, does it not?
Correction - never a good idea unless you are capable of directly shaping reality by imposing your will upon it, in which case one must wonder why you're bothering to type out a review on FF.net when you can instead imprint it in bold lettering on the author's fore-brain.
@224: Yeah, got those too. And I converted some peeps to slash that way... my bad, I'm so horrible! Converter mode...
@ Iaculus: Writing as in rewriting a fanfiction? Personnally, if someone did it for one of mine, I'd be a tad bit pissed off - depends on the scale of the fic in question though.
@230: What you said just killed my brain.... /jk
Well, that depends... if you were a published author, what would your opinion of fanfiction be? ;)
@Iaculus- Some might argue that people DO shape reality by imposing their will upon it; it is simply an indirect process rather than a direct one. As for published authors' opinions on fanfic, well... Let us just say it varies...
Some people's brains are fried easily, it seems...
I once got one on my Matilda fanfiction, "DUDE WTF??"
I immediately sent back that I thought it had been rather rude just to crack off my story without reason, and that I understood I should not anticipate more.
She sent back later that it had been her cousin... Pretty lame excuse, I must say.
@ Iaculus: Well, as a published author, I guess I wouldn't mind this much since I'd be the one holding the rights - and the money. It all depends... on the fanfics, but I'm sure I'd be too afraid of reading them... or I'll do like some mangaka do and write fanfics of my own work.
But as a fanfic writer, it would irk me if someone re-use something I wrote. Especially if it's 'to make it better' - I have a rather large ego, and in my mind, it would imply that my own story is considered as unworthy. I don't write long fanfictions though, so I don't have the problem. Plus, I write far too much to keep track. It's not like I have one story, so... (But I do like people writing about the same kind of subject in different ways, it's nice to see the way they put it)
Not really a matter of good or bad fanfic, a matter perception is more likely.
I just found a review from a guy called The Regan on FFN. Dunno if anyone ever heard about him but he used to be really nasty.
A girl wrote a Death Note fanfic that kinda needed worked on because of incoherences and while other persons, including me, tried to help, this guy just said:
"Wow. Congratulations on having no idea how the Death Note actually works. It doesn't matter in the least that that crappy OC pop singer and light have the same name, just as long as they LOOK different. If you'd been reading/watching the series with more than a mentality of a two-year-old, you would know that the only way there'd even be a slight chance that both of them would die would be that they both a. unnaturaly and absolutely impossibly looked the same b. they were identical twins or c. they were clones. I doubt any of those are true, and now you've written in an even bigger gaping plothole than the REAL later deathnote chapters. Try actually reading next time.
All in all,
bad continuity-**"
He might have been right but the way he said it ticked me off and I sent him a PM to tell him. Here's what he told me:
"Disgusting. It's red-assed jackass commie-bloods like you that threaten the very foundation on which we live. If you'd been alive 50 years ago, you'd have been vilified, denied and undersupplied by our fathers. Gay-ass Socialists like you undercut the very life we live and disenfranchise the rights. You can respond until you're blue in the face, but dont the fuck expect a response from me. I don't negotiate with communists. All in all,commie-ass
Don't bother to respond, but do feel free to go to hell ^_^-
The Regan "
Of course, dude hadn't written anything and seemingly created an account just to be a total ass.
Adulates the 50s, huh? Let me guess - he has a shrine to George Wallace in his bedroom that he prays in front of every night before he goes to sleep in his big bed with the McCarthy-print duvet.
As i have said before, the right to freedom of speech includes the right for others to call you out on your bullshit.
the guy TKD Master just reviewed my story again.... i feel accomplished but i think i might have been a little too mean with my note.
this is what they sent me:
Hey man, I know you have problems with me right now, but I just stating facts.
If I did offend you, I want to say I'm sorry alright.
Anyways, nice chapter. I truly hope that Naruto and Sakura will get together
soon.
Later
P.S.: I'll take back everything that I said in my last review. I just have a
hard day at work and couldn't think straight, especially dealing with
Kishimoto's blunders from the last issue I read. I hope you except my apology.
Besides, your fic kick ass, keep up the good work.
<<239 they might read this forum :P
>>240 Might be...
@ Inulover: That's good, though... And you never are too mean, they were the ones making you react that way. So they would understand that they really hurt you, see?
@ Iaculus: Aye, I don't mind the whole critic, he was right. But he indeed is stuck in another... era.

Ah, the most bitchy review...
I think it would have to be:
You ruined your story!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The most annoying one though? Got to be:
Great Story, keep it up!
WTF do I change? What bad things were in that chapter? Give me something to work with, retards.
Yea, the reviews that just say keep it up are annoying. I'd much prefer to see what they thought, if they have any guesses as to what they think will happen, any improvements they think I could make.
well they are technically giving you their opinion. they say the story's great or when they say to keep going, they're basically telling you that they think the story if fine the way it is and they like it.
but i do have to agree that it can get annoying with every other review is like "great chapter" or something.
one of the latest review I gave to a story was this:
...
T_T
...
I was simply so speechless that i had no words. the story is really amazing and i have said that in nearly every chapter but that chapter watered my eyes, which is a very rear thing to happen.
lol i would be so confused it i got that.

lol yeah I know but she knows my feeling about her stories and how I love them lol
but believe that chap was so perfect that I didn't have words to write and I wasn't capable of speaking for few hours too.
and the T_T face was because she did the impossible...water my eyes...

lol nice. well if i was talking to you before i got that i would probably understand. lol that works.
