Mangas that don't have or have enough fanfiction (42)

1 Name: Warper : 2009-09-12 11:53 ID:QKGENEzs

Ok, so big names in fanfiction seem to be Naruto, BLEACH, Twilight, Harry Potter and from what's been discussed in some other area sof the site, one of the CSI or NCIS things (I don't like them too much so I don't know which ones they're talking about.

However in the manga world there are some very good mangas that don't seem to have fanfictions worth reading.

Examples include: Sgt. Frog, Kurohime, Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Kurohime.

Now I could be wrong, but it's just that when I earch for these, I mostly get crap, yaoi, yuri and the like.

Does anyone care enough to write fanfictions about some of these mangas?

Oops, I said Kurohime twice didn't I. ^^'

It's always depresses me when I read a manga and then discover their isn't any good fanfiction for it. Legal Drug (most fics for this I've read are disgustingly sappy or out and out weird) and Dragon Knights (which I don't think enough people read and write coherently) are good examples.
Even more depressing when there isn't even a category for the manga, like Aventura, which is cute beyond all mentioning, but impossibly hard to find.
I also wish more authors would write in the less popular categories, I think I shows dedication because you tend to get less reward in the form of reviews for those.

I mean no offense but I also notice that when a less than popular manga does get a fanfiction, it is for some reason a yaoi, yuri or gender bends the main character.

I like straight fics with maybe a side yuri pairing.

REally though in Dragon Knights I would like to know who Thatz gets with. Rune has a girlfriend and I know who rath gets with but Thatz seems to love treasure too much to get a girl. Is this asumption true?

I only read fanfiction for D.Gray-Man, Bleach, Wallflower (Perfect Girl Evolution), or Bizenghast- and they all (except for Bizenghast) have plenty of fanfic variety. Those are not the only manga i read, simply only the ones I would like to see other things happen in- even though i like what the author of the manga has published.
One really can't expect many fics from a manga that isn't very popular because the 'crowd' is so small, and you can't expect too much variation of the fics that are written if the readers perhaps chose to read that particular manga because they all like shoujo, or they all like shounen ai. Just this, or just that.
If the readers chose to read that manga, say soley because it's shounen ai, they are more likely to write in that vein. Someone who reads fiction, of any sort, is more likely to write fiction, than anything else.

eh, that one reminds me too much of Resident Evil and i personally don't like the whole 'zombie' theme.

I haven't read a good Katekyo Hitman Reborn fic, a good Black Cat, a good Legendz fic.

I've tried BLEACH Fanfics, but so far I've only found one and believe me, I've gone through it with a super fine tooth comb.

@ warper
but they messed the black cat anime up so much >.<

and peacemaker kurogane needs more

I have seen the anime and yes it does suck in comparison to the manga, but still that shouldn't be a reason for a lacking in Black Cat fanfiction.

I've never read peacemaker Kurogane also.

yeah true, but I think most people only watch the anime (I know some -_-')

I tried GTO. Couldn't get into it.

13 Name: Judaphine : 2009-09-25 04:17 ID:sKmfCWsx

I tried a GTO crossover that went bust simply because I couldn't really get a feel for the characters. I'd LIKE to see a King of Hell fanfic or two and maybe Dragon Hunter, Rune Soldier, and Cross.

I can't ind any good Fairy Tail fanfictions

Though an anime series first, Darker than Black definitely deserves a more interesting class of fic. In fact, it deserves more, period.

>>10 I read the peacemaker manga, and it broke my heart so badly I couldn't write for it. That was the depth of my depression for it, but it does deserve more and better stories

I write and read D. Gray Man, and happily it does have a wide selection with pretty good choice. I'd like to see a Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei fic that could capture the weird yet awesome nature of the series. And I'm praying for a Gintama fic that's as funny as the source material.

Trigun could do with some more fanfiction for two reasons, one being that the characters were fantastic and the other that the ending didn't make a lick of sense and left a lot in the air.

21 Name: moonphase9 : 2010-01-28 17:39 ID:as1S47T/

Basilisk was awesome, but has hardly any fanfic.

22 Name: Tristana : 2010-01-31 15:04 ID:qpql0E2g

moonphase > Aye! I just love the manga - though I can't get myself to write.

Another thing... it's not a manga but a BL game. Animamundi: Dark Alchemist. We're like... 5 (not sure) to write for it and still, even with 15+ fics, it's still doesn't have a category...

I've done a couple for Shugo Chara, which is kind of unheard off, but there aren't many good fics for it. Yeah, the anime/manga itself is quite child-friendly and smiles-all-round but generally, I thought, really good. The characters are great.I found it really motivating. :D
Another's A.I.Love You which is really good, but the only stories in that section are misplaced ones. :(

There's a few things I've learnt about fanfiction and how the popularity translates to number of fanfics written.

One: The longer it's been out, and the more publicity put into making it happen generally mean that there will be more fanfiction written about it.

Two: Unless it has two male leads, the majority of the baseload that all the areas need to build up never happens. For some reason, Yaoi is the most popular fanfiction pairing, and therefore there needs to be two male leads to propergate this.

Three: Things like Naruto, Bleach and DBZ are top for a reason. Unfortunately, many manga are often disregarded for not having enough action, and by that I mean full-blown fight scenes. Death Note is definitely the exception which proves the rule - and even then you can argue the mental battles are actually the most thrilling and frustrating battle you'll ever see in a manga.

Four: Good fanfiction needs to be written by competent authors, something the internet lacks on a whole. Authors who can write excellent plots and do so often are rare.

Five: If it isn't there and you want it there, write a fanfic for your chosen topic yourself. If it's any good, then people will be drawn to the topic at hand, and then people will be more likely to write one.

A final note: just because Naruto has loads of fanfics doesn't make them any good or worthwhile. Many authors cannot spell, have crappy concepts, cannot write anything but smut into their sentences, or have deus ex machinas every three chapters to sort out any trouble they've encountered. They also end up writing four reasonable length chapters (1500 - 2000 words) and then combining them before declaring that one chapter. If you're lucky, that means the author will update once every two weeks, if they have a beta. Some will be insane and update twice a week, some less so and once a week. Most will update once a month. Meaning it takes a long time for the fanfic to be finished.

I end up reading about five or six at the same time as the author generally stops updating for a long time. Or they get stuck and end up writing filler chapters, which do next to nothing for me.

Ao no Exorcist, Code Breaker, Jack Frost (no relation to the snow guy, actually quite dark) and Heart No Kuni No Alice's manga formall have little to no FanFiction, at least on Fanfiction.net. They're all really great too! I guess they aren't popular enough.

Oh, and to some of the earlier comments, there is a suprising amount of D.Gray-man, which is suprising because no matter where I go, I can't find anyone who's heard of it.

Dammit, Fullmeatl Alchemist is a friggin awesome manga, but even though it's over (in Japan), there isn't anything good. What gives?

Oh, and for video games, we need more Ace Attorney and DEFINITELY more Time Hollow.

We do need more Ace attorney but everyone loves Phoenix/Miles for some reason

GAG!!!!!!!!!!!

FMA Does indeed need good fanfic. Also, just recedntly I did get into GTO for some reason. The Gundam series could use a decent fanfic or two. also some Black Lagoon would be nice.

I'd love to see more Godchild, more Beauty Pop, more
La Corda D'Oro and more Nightmare Inspector. Also, I happen be disappointed in the vast lack of Amazing Agent Luna fanfiction. it doesn't even have it's own section and I've only seen one oneshot. and there also needs to be more MagicalxMiracle fanfiction.

31 Name: Yemi Hikari : 2010-07-27 14:02 ID:/s1Ylro3

I personally think anything in the thousands doesn't constitute not having enough fanfiction though. Black Cat numbers over 800.

Backstage Prince, Bamboo Blade, Yumineiro Patisiere, Ayatsuri Sakon, Cat Street... all of those, rather good Manga, but not much fanfiction for them...

Hmm... Three series I'd like to see more fanfiction for would be: Diabolo, Zombie-Loan, and +Anima.

Diabolo has got less than twenty fics, but it's also kinda hard to find in bookstores. I don't think Tokyopop did a reprint of it.

Zombie-Loan is amazing, but the fanfics are far and few between. Maybe a hundred. The fandom is small enough that if you write something, no one really cares about the pairing, they'll read it just because they want to read a Z-Loan fic.

+Anima is a toughie. Good series, with a minor amount of popularity (it'd probably get more notice if it got an anime) but the fanfiction section is the dumping site of ffnet. The last time I went there, I saw: three Yu-Gi-Oh! fics, two Naruto fics, three works of original fiction, a Dragonball Z fic, a Sonic fic, a Warriors fic, nine original poems, and an Inuyasha fic. This was all within the first two pages! I'm sure people are still doing it too! It makes me want to cry. Everyone who likes +Anima keeps telling these people that there are already sections for these stories on the site and I'm sure the admins are annoyed at how often we beg them to move the stories, but NOTHING IS EVER DONE. (Forgive the caps lock, it just makes me incredibly mad.)

On the bonus side of all the +Anima gloom and doom, I happened to read what was probably the best smart-ass comment I've seen in my tenure on ffnet. The story was labeled as a Naruto fic, but inside, there were only the words 'books and paper'. The review went along the lines of 'Yes, that was very good, but it'd be even better if there were sentences and dialogue and a plot.' It never fails to make me smile when I think of it.

Ah, +Anima... Will you ever be clean?

33 Name: Yemi Hikari : 2010-08-19 22:50 ID:wWzWSt/I

>>32 - +Anima is also likely full of Mary Sues. The few crossovers with Bleach have them...

34 Name: YamiTenshi : 2010-08-20 18:17 ID:2Wuz/Hnq

What few +Anima fics I could find after slogging through the bullcrap seemed to be dedicated to the series and respected it, but there were a couple Mary Sues. I suspect there are more, as it is a very Sue-able series...

Also, I read one +Anima fic where one of the main characters had a sixteen inch penis. No, really. The writer's reasoning for it was 'well, yeah, I guess it's kinda big, but he's a bear +Anima!' I can't say that I know much about bear phalluses, but I'm pretty sure they're not sixteen inches long.

It scares me that these people are our future.

>>34 - Sorry, but that logic doest work. Why? Because the +Anime recieve eqivilent sized parts, not over sized parts. Simple as that.

Probably Gintama. There are a few good ones, but for the most part it's romance fics pairing up characters all over the place. Gintama doesn't have many canon pairings - most of the 'romance' is one-sided obsession on the part of one character or another, mostly meant to be funny. I do happen to like that quality about it, so the sheer number of romance fics is somewhat disappointing.

40 Name: Yemi Hikari : 2010-08-22 10:31 ID:wWzWSt/I

41 Name: RachelCabbit : 2010-08-30 08:09 ID:tm/4fGDe

I recently read Tite Kubo's Zombie Powder, but there seems to be very little fic out there. What is there tends to be continuation of the unfinished story, or yaoi pairings.
I may re-read and work on some little plotbunnies I got from my first readthrough.

42 Name: Yemi Hikari : 2010-08-30 20:30 ID:wWzWSt/I

>>41 - I'm still trying to get through ZP, but I I think that continuations of unfinnished work, can be some of the best fanfic... or some of the worst. It would be interesting to see a crossover ZP/Bleach...
