Lemon, Yuri, Yaoi, even hetero lets talk about it :D (118)

1 Name: SeraEris : 2009-09-09 10:05 ID:3sfbZz+l

since that beautiful thread about lemons and the other one with the slash was deleted along with the other stuff [so sad about it]
here is a thread to start over.

Yuri lemons about my fav pairing Haruka and Michiru are my thing
;)

2 Name: Judaphine : 2009-09-09 17:24 ID:xAAiz36j

I like a good Drarry, Snarry or Snupin myself (Harry Potter, for those who don't know). Then there's the loveable Naruto with Sasu/Naru, Kiba/Naru, Neji/Naru, Gaa/Naru... EVERYBODY NARU!! XD

Another fav is Ranma and Ryoga. ^_^

3 Name: TenshiXXX : 2009-09-12 09:35 ID:/HwrpwGy

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's Neji on top. The only thing I hate more is slutty bottoms. In top/bottom order, I love Harry/Draco (Harry Potter), Gaara/Neji (Naruto), Shikamaru/Neji (Naruto), Naruto/Sasuke/Naruto (Naruto), Light/L (Death Note) and Aragorn/Legolas (The Lord of The Rings).

4 Name: Prism0467 : 2009-09-12 16:37 ID:2Gw+vUVH

@TenshiXXX: What have you got against Neji being on top? Sure he's well-bred, but he's still alpha enough to top. Every fic I've used him in has him topping Shikamaru (in one they switch). In one of my favorite fics, he even tops Naruto (WAY sexy!). What's the deal?

I was just thinking that my favorite fics involving Naruto and Sasuke, while I will read them either way, are the ones where Naruto tops.

You have Gaara topping Neji. Every fic I've used him in has him bottoming for Naruto (YUM!).

Of course, at the end of the day, as long as it's yaoi, it's all the same to me.

5 Name: sailorjupiterox : 2009-09-13 09:18 ID:+UBtmbtc

Am I the only person who thinks KyouyaxTamaki (Ouran High School Host Club) is kind of cool?

Normally, I prefer KyouyaxHaruhi, but then I stumbled upon a KyouyaxTamaki and I loved it!

DracoxHarry all the way :)

6 Name: Sofabedtry : 2009-09-20 10:53 ID:370GjJ1v

I would love to write lemons but I'm too scared someone I know will stumble across them…
I love reading them too. :D

7 Name: kauriblume : 2009-09-20 16:24 ID:7XnQr7gZ

i am such a light/l fan, but its really hard to find good stories.

Sofabedtry, i totally know what you mean about writing lemons, i wish i could write one, but i always get really embarrased halfway through :S

8 Name: Galadriel1010 : 2009-09-27 10:42 ID:Csia6kiF

I'm a Torchwood fan, so it's Jack/Ianto all the way :D

9 Name: Irene : 2009-09-27 11:17 ID:7s5M+iWz

I mostly write about Harry Potter. I'm a Dramione shipper, which means I think Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger would make a great couple, assuming they could get over the whole "she's an unworthy, mudblood, goody-two-shoes" and "he's an evil, slimy, git". So I mainly read and write fictions about these guys.

10 Name: Flinch-Hayward : 2009-09-27 12:43 ID:UN7eN0cb

Also Jack/Owen pre-S1. DON'T JUDGE ME.

I also like fentonxphantom (danny phantom)

Lessee... I have tried writing lemons, but I never manage to finish them.
As for reading, I'm very much a Kingdom Hearts fan so thinks like AkuRoku and Zemyx are what I go for.

Gaara/Naruto (either way round) is a good one too...

Oh yeah, and Todd/Kurt from X-men Evolution.

20 Name: Loonynamelass : 2009-10-17 13:48 ID:6qrU9+r7

Hey, Felix, which one was the Voldy-Ginny one you've read?

21 Name: fezakyuu : 2009-10-19 12:14 ID:hFt4sdrs

Lawl. All I ever tend to write nowadays is yaoi. I still get worried about my friends finding out I do but meh... Who cares? Lawl.

I write alot of yaoi for Transformers and Rockman. :)

22 Name: Prism0467 : 2009-10-19 15:26 ID:v5KGuzY/

Kaida Shade, I've got a couple of NaruGaa lemons under my belt, if you're interested in reading them. I'm also extremely fond of NejiShika and ZabuHaku.

23 Name: Ren'aiXhakumei : 2009-10-19 15:32 ID:it4lms3E

Lol, I think when a fanfiction author firsts posts a lemon, they have lost their fanfiction virginity XD It's funny, because some people are like ''I'm not ready to write a lemon, I'm not experianced enough, I could get it wrong.'' and that's what virgins say ( in the sex sense ) ¬¬ So it sorta links.

24 Name: Kaitou Ran : 2009-10-20 16:46 ID:3BUOjpcP

I haven't seen any Detective Conan fans yet, so I'll just get this out there. Kaito/Shin'ichi= best yaoi pair ever! Nut I also read Kaito/Aoko and Shin'ichi/Ran... on occasion.

25 Name: SeraEris : 2009-10-20 20:20 ID:amhbUnE2

>>23 thats hilarious :D

26 Name: DarthRevanShepard : 2009-10-25 09:59 ID:9FMN7kK4

Hey people! I can't write lemons (My age has made me a huge prude) but I do read a few Yaoi ones. Fav yaoi pairs are:

RenBya, IchiHichi, RenShuu, GrimmUlqui, AiGin (Bleach)
Dante/Nero, Dante/Vergil (Devil May Cry)
Steve/Darren, Larten/Darren, Vancha/Gannen (Darren Shan)

27 Name: bioldrawings : 2009-11-03 14:51 ID:GU/Y0oDa

I can't write lemon. I can't even write slash. My heart is s dried up sorry little thing ;)
I can't really read explicit stuff very well either. I'm not prudish at all so I don't get why it usually freaks me out. I has da issues.
Just for the hell of it, my favourite pairings gotta be:
Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens)
Edgar/Nny (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac)

28 Name: Yellow 14 : 2009-11-07 14:58 ID:0Max644O

I don't do lemons because I don't see the point. But I'm perfectly happy to imply and refer to sex scenes that happen off screen. As a rule though, I tend to incorporate a little slash into my fics, but I don't like it when it's overdone, ie almost all the characters are gay/lesbian. Nothing against gays, but an ALL gay cast? It seems unlikely.

29 Name: Mangaluva : 2009-11-08 06:33 ID:E80CjSps

hi5s Kaitou Ran I'm a KaiShin fangirl, bigtime, though for the most part i'm really into the canon couples. I've written an AoKai lemon, but i've been too scared to post it ^_^;

Harry Potter - Hermione/Ginny
Twilight - Alice/Bella
Jennifers Body - Jennifer/Needy

My fav pairings are LxLight (Death Note, obviously) and SebastienxCiel (Kuroshitsuji). I read a SoulxKid (Soul Eater) lemon once. I got halfway through and then I finally said 'Oh hell, I can't finish it! It's too damn FUNNY!

I also like NaomixWedy (Death Note again), for some strange reason. Oh, and SoulxMaka (Soul Eater) too.

Who else here is in favour of the unofficial law that states that you may only write lemons or slash if:

A) You have actually had sex

B) You have some knowledge of the relevant anatomy.

?

There is nothing worse than bad slashfiction. If everyone obeys this law, we will be combating the single worst aspect of fanfic. Unite!

35 Name: KyuubiNineTailedFox : 2009-12-22 08:58 ID:V+cJdINo

I can't write lemons to save my life. I read them, but can't write em', and I agree with that unofficial law you have there. I hate it when some lemons are just overreacted. Oh, and my favorite pairings ever are SasuNaru, AkuRoku, and a little bit of Link/Shiek! Maybe a bit of Zack/Cloud too. I'm crazy.

36 Name: OCDJen : 2009-12-22 10:33 ID:K8EaDzs6

I write lemon's, slash lemon's, oh good yes I love them but they have to well writen. I hate it when people don't write about prep or lube, sorry love but you gotta prep and lube up first readers will soon let you know in their reviews if you don't.

Jasper and Edward are my fav (twilight)

37 Name: Count Army Leader. : 2009-12-26 14:10 ID:RsD7abqr

Yay! Lemons! I don't really know why I find them easy to write, but I can help people if they want some advice on how to write one (Send me a message on fanfic, linked to my name)
I love Everyone x Naru-chan, KakaIru ... And well.. Many more, almost all Yaoi pairings in Naruto. Well, except KakaGai, That's weird.
I love SebatianxCiel (Kuroshitsuji), LxLight (Death Note) Umm... HatsuharuxYuki (Fruits basket) KyouYuki (Fruits basket... and many many more.
Yuri, I am not as keen on, I likme InoSaku (Naruto) But that's about it...
Oh! I absolutely love EmmetxJasper from Twilight!
Lemons are for win!

Haha, I love this thread!
My favourite yuri pairing has got to be Haruka/Michiru aswell,
It just seems so right :)

And yaoi:
Trowa/Quatre from Gundam Wing.
Tyson/Kai - Beyblade
Goten/Trunks -DBZ :P

Haa, I like lemons in general anyway, as long as they're well written.

Anyone for Jack/Ianto?

40 Name: Stapels : 2009-12-27 15:38 ID:SqmreiWM

Ah dirty fanfiction. My very own cargo ship

I won't list all my fave pairings, that'd be stupid.
I find Hetreo a bit squicky though and painful to read even if it's well written.

I should really like Yuri more but I have to really like female characters to ship them together.

41 Name: Lay-A-Egg : 2010-01-03 10:09 ID:ZPIwvLWU

xD Yeah, I'm too young to read lemons, let alone write it. o_O But I have come across some... stuff. It's a shame they're pretty badly written though. I do read yaoi though, and I have written some. My current obsession is Death Note (L/Light). I have written some minor lime-y scenes, but I do stop before it gets too steamy. x3 Yay!

42 Name: Amber_spider_web : 2010-01-05 10:29 ID:gEhTRHY9

I'm definately a YAOI and Lemon kinda' girl! I might read a Yuri fluff every now and again if I feel like it though.

And even though I'm not 18, I'm older than a child and read Lemons AND type them ^ ^

I love reading fics where Naruto is the Uke! Mainly with Sasuke as a Seme. Obviously, everybody has their favourit pairings, but everybody else in Naruto seems too much like family for Naruto to be paired with!
If it comes to it, I don't mind a short oneshot of ItaSasu because I find it cute.
KibaShino is a doable pairing for me as well because its sweet and they can be either fluff, lime OR lemon! Its brilliant! But they're more of a side pairing for me.

I don't mind fluff, but I suffocate on fluff if its too fluffy, any body else?

43 Name: Madness : 2010-01-11 12:41 ID:muoRFD3Y

Ok I may sound like a total loser but what is Yuri and Yaoi? Oh and don't start this you don't wanna know stuff because I write Ms so don't think I'm some kid that just stumbled across the forum okay?

(Sorry that post sounded a bit mean but I'm not too mean honest)

44 Name: Iaculus : 2010-01-11 12:46 ID:URkPq+QH

Yaoi: 'boys love', a pairing between two guys.

Yuri: 'girls love', a pairing between two ladies. Also a moderately popular male given name in Russia, but that's another story.

45 Name: Prism0467 : 2010-01-11 19:38 ID:v5KGuzY/

Yaoi and Yuri are terms that apply specifically to pairings in Japanese manga and anime. Otherwise, it is known as slash and femme-slash.

>>43 dear Madness since I am the creator of this thread [SeraEris]
I need to tell you first, that here we are civilized ppl and there is no reason to claim that we are going to bitch on you because you don't know the terms.

on topic now: as laculus and Prism so kindly explained, Yaoi and Yuri terms stay for the homosexual pairing of characters male and female respectively.
for more info about the terms that are used in FF there is this wonderful wiki page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_fan_fiction_terms
also for terms that are used in Anime/Manga fandoms
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_and_manga_terminology

I hope this helps.
and just have in mind here in this thread we are friends not enemies, i don't know who have criticized you so bad about your fandom that makes you go on defensive mode when there is no need, but you can sheathe you sword here its safe:)

>quote: "Who else here is in favour of the unofficial law that states that you may only write lemons or slash if:

I'll come to disagree with you and the unofficial law.
If you have a really good imagination and read some stuff about the male and female anatomy, or even watch some porn and read other well written lemons, or even have some cyber sex experience, then it doenst matter if you are virgin or not.

I am quite the example: being really horny as a teenager I used to have Cyber sex with random boys, when i was 16 or so and slowly became a Cyber Queen, I lost interest though about 2 years later. I lost my virginity to a guy when I was 23, and it was then I realized that sex is not for me. I have no experience with girl to girl sex, though I have managed to write lemons about my fav Yuri couple, and make my lesbian friend to come by just typing to her. What makes me so good at it, even if sex is not part of my personal life? It is the fact that I am a little bit more of a pervert that the regular girl you see in the supermarket, or in our case, than the random fanfictionist.

and that's come from a 25 years old woman, Asexual[with only straight experience] and currently writer of girl to girl fanfiction with lemon included most of the times.

52 Name: Iaculus : 2010-01-14 04:58 ID:bWDaZu/1

But do you have knowledge of the relevant anatomy? That's the second qualifier.

53 Name: セーラーエリス : 2010-01-14 05:14 ID:i2bv3VLX

I am a woman so I know how a woman's body is

54 Name: セーラーエリス : 2010-01-14 05:28 ID:i2bv3VLX

maybe I should add that, Lemons are about the characters having sex and doing things to each other. Does the writer have to like the things their characters are doing? or even be able to do those things?
I'm good with words when it comes to sex but as a person I wasnt able to pleasure my boyfriend the way I had pleasured my CyBer partners.

and to make my point more clear. Things I mostly write involve oral sex. I personally am disgusted by that practice but my readers find it hot so yeah the point of a lemon is to make it appear hot and sexy to the popularity, not what I [the writer] like to do or not.

55 Name: Iaculus : 2010-01-14 05:50 ID:bWDaZu/1

>>53 That isn't always a guarantee, believe me. The anatomical errors that writers of both genders can make are absolutely hilarious, particularly if they make the mistake of bringing in measurements.

Guys, please note that a two-inch-thick schlong is about the diameter of a Coke bottle. Yeah, just try fitting that in the missus.

56 Name: セーラーエリス : 2010-01-14 06:14 ID:i2bv3VLX

>>55 I agree that is not always work
but it does Work when the writer is able to make it work ;)

for example the other day I read a hentai[explicit hardcore sexual theme] fic with my fav Character [Haruka] loosing her virginity by a...plant [that's why it was a hentai] it worked out really well because the writer is brilliant when it comes to lemons ;)

57 Name: Madness : 2010-01-15 14:22 ID:4E/rUDIo

So I haven't had any guy on guy experience (mainly because I'm a girl...) and I can still write them pretty good. Plus I hate it when they start talking about measurements I mean come on it really does kill the mood of a story.

58 Name: KK33 : 2010-01-21 03:38 ID:e36Qgbkt

I prefer reading about Human/Animal pairings.
Even though my parents and the school think that I should not even think about it at all.

And as for the unofficial law: I disaggree with the first point but aggree with the second point.

If you are gonna write sex you should really know what goes where.

Lol there are TWO teachers in the room and they haven't even noticed what I'm doing

59 Name: Iaculus : 2010-01-21 03:44 ID:br2PmG5+

61 Name: RayRay : 2010-01-21 05:03 ID:EsebhKK+

I think knowing the anatomy of the opposite sex is obviously something important, for example, I read a fic once by a person - who turned out to be a 15 year old boy - who was describing the girl as having a 2 inch long clit.

I have never in all of my years as a girl, come across that, seen it on tv, read about it...therefore I have to conclude that this person seriously knows nothing about the female body,

That said, I have no experience with MaleMale, and I've written it before - but I'm not gonna get into how long their wangs are...that's not for me to decide to be honest, more fun to leave it to the imagination.

Good fun.

I think they are all adorable! It doesnt matter if its a guy and a guy or a girl and a girl, if the story is well written and had a good plot, I will read it :)
One of my favourite parings is Ed x Roy from FullMetal, and Hiroki X Nowaki from Junjou Romantica :)

66 Name: Victoria : 2010-02-03 11:13 ID:nJlkQCb5

i love yaoi cos its so much different than normal pairings. being bi myself i even have experience (which i agree is always helpful when writing)
i just wish my pairing im into wasnt a mad scientist and a platypus XD

67 Name: Francys Pai : 2010-02-03 11:23 ID:6B97Bnh0

I've always been a bit of a yaoi nut. Can't seem to get enough of it. Unfortunately I have this habit of finding pairings in everything.

As for detail, I've asked around for certain things among friends since I have a few that I can speak to very openly about sex and they do their best to help with some of the finer details.

68 Name: Elkkun : 2010-02-08 03:38 ID:Fh1wdy9N

Uh...One of my fave pairings at the moment is probably...

Darren/Evra Evra/Darren or Steve and Darren from Darren Shan's Cirque Du Freak... :F Gotta love that Snake X3. -would love to cuddle Evra from the manga-

69 Name: moonphase9 : 2010-02-17 14:53 ID:uuVxcx+Z

I like yaoi fics (cute), hetero fics and even some yuri (very easy going.) But I don't write them. I would probably be pretty bad at it as I'm female and hetrosexual therefore I would not really know what I was talking about...

Just for fun- find out what seme or uke type you are:

I would like to read the actual book though so I might see if I can find it anywhere...

72 Name: OpiumPoppy : 2010-03-12 12:29 ID:UqR7xYGP

>>34 Lol, I don't really agree with A, I mean it seems really necessary but if you read enough good lemons I'm sure that writers can get the gist, but I think you said A because of B really. And that I definately agree with, the worst slash lemons are just completely anatomically incorrect. The writer can be amazing but if you have zero knowledge of what you're writing about then how can you expect it to make any sense?! Still, you can have knowledge without having to have lost your virginity just like I'm pretty sure that some people can write kink and bdsm without having taken part in anything but vanilla.

73 Name: Jaygirl942 : 2010-03-14 14:36 ID:HqPdo0Pn

I've read book 7 and 8 of Darren Shan but kind of...skipped the rest -sheepish grin- I've wrote a yuri lemon, but I'm a virgin, and...well I hope its good. I've read lots of yaoi stories with explicit sex and I'm fairly sure I know where to put things. I've actually find that I've learn't a lot about sex in general, that can help me a lot when I'm older and actually have a sex life. I mean, I'm Bi, and wasn't quite sure how lesbian sex worked, but by reading yuri I found out some priceless info.

74 Name: RayRay : 2010-03-14 17:02 ID:v/wnJqJR

The fun thing about sex written in fanfics, as I think I've mentioned previously, is the ability of the author to wax poetic about the whole encounter, and make it seem like the most flawless thing ever.

Sex, in reality, is a little clumsy at first, until you both know what you like, oftentimes over very quickly, and can result in some rather embarrasing situations, whether the sex in question be hetero, yuri or yaoi.

The day I read a well-written and realistic sex scene in fanfic, or any fic, will make my day. And no, I'm not going to attempt to do it, because I'm not stupid.

B) You have some knowledge of the relevant anatomy."

I don't fall into either of those categories, but by reading a lot of stuff written by guys I've done quite a bit of research. And if people enjoy reading it, and I enjoy writing it, where's the problem? If you don't like it, scroll on past.

I only write romance, and most of the time it turns out to be yaoi or just general lemon, but I agree that you need some experience with it. I'll admit I'm a bisexual, but only ever done things with guys. However, like most teenagers I've seen some porn, so I know a thing or two about same sex stuff. You don't necessarily have to have done things yourself but just have known about how it's done anyway

Bear in mind, though, that porn is not necessarily 'how it's done'...

>>74 I always wait for the day its realistic as well but I think that sex scenes in need to be better than they are in real life...I just think that people want to read it being amazing! I did once try and make the sex scene in one of my stories more realistic...it turned out to be one of my less than popular stories that ended up never leaving my livejournal! lol

I do think you need some experience before you write...but only if what you are writing is going to be realistic about sex. As someone who is fairly experienced with most things I feel I can write them better now than I could before

i really love yaoi lemons, and het lemons if they are from the girls pov, just yaoi in general is so hot

83 Name: Dark Wolf : 2010-04-17 03:36 ID:/Z7Ijs3Y

Im not overly sexual and havent had a whole tonne of experience. but i tend to find, there are some published Paranormal Romance books that can give quite a lot of info, base that around what you read in magazines and what you'd like to try/or have done rolled into one

BAM one interesting citrusy scene. Ive only written two or three. Im not too great at Lemons, I get a little embarrassed i havent done it right, or overdone it.

But totally agree, just because someone may not have experience or not have much of an idea of the 'workings' doesnt mean they cant write one. I wrote my first lemon at sweet sixteen and was a virgin to twenty-one. Im only twenty-six now. Not too much experience but i like to write them every once in a while.. :p

I'd agree too. Like writing in general if you ahve a good enough imagination and don't try and push things too far you can write good yuri. But having actual experience does allow one to start putting in the little extra details that make for the A* stories...for fanfics though as a lot of the readers won't have experienced lesbianism the loss of the extra detail probably wouldn't be noticed as much.

I also wanted to advertise an awesome yuri forum I just came across (it does have a smaller Yaoi section within it):
http://yuri-garden.com/forum.php

The sites still being upgraded/improved but it's a really great place for yuri fans and super friendly XD

I've never had sex and don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend but I write and draw many yaoi and ecchi for friends when I'm in the mood for it.
I like yaoi because I find it cute and different <333

@89- Well, ecchi is meant to be non-explicit, but still arousing, while hentai is porn. Think pinup girls vs porno videos.

So would anybody like to put up a link to their lemon?

We can all read it and then review it (just as this site intended). I'm not bothered on who the pairings are or what sex ratio is. It would just be nice to actually review somthing and have a good old chin wag about it. I think it will help the writer and other writers to see what sort of thing people like/ expect.

Don't be shy....

Ah! I just thought... has anybody written anything with Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex from Stargate Atlantis) in?

Because hes so damm fine!!! :)

I read The War Between Us, and heres what I put in ur comments box:
Im not formiliar with the world of Naoko-sensei, but getting down to the lemon side of things it was good. The tension was building from the begining, which I liked and I realy liked your wording... it didn't sound commical or trashy (hope you understand that), loved the ending. More emphasise on the sexual feelings in turms of touch and emotionally would have improved it. Over all I realy liked it.

So what are other people's views on the story?

thanks for the wonderful review!
can you please explain a bit more what you mean with that:

>"More emphasise on the sexual feelings in turms of touch and emotionally would have improved it"

I don't quite get what you want to say here and since is the most important part that would improve my writing I want to know so please explain it to me a bit more

101 Name: captinifeelwozey : 2010-05-06 14:12 ID:dO78a/Ku

LoL sorry.

Yes more in terms (sorry I spelt 'terms' very wrong before obviously not thinking straight) of touch, like what actually they felt with there hands, it doesn't have to be super graphic for example um... soft moist skin. (I cant write to much without risking this post being removed).

and sexual feeling like... for example: she moaned again the pressure was building up inside her. So basically extra words put into the lemon bit, to make it longer and seam more intense.

(sorry I wasnt signed in when I added my review to your story, if you want me to add more suggestions ill send you a private email).

Ohh got it now :)
actually that's how deep I go in Lemons lately, it is the way I like to read it so i go with that.
my most "hardcore" lemons are in "My life" chap3
and "Truck Driver" chap8 and 9

I'm not go THAT hardcore, i like to keep it more romantic I guess I don't know

Umm, not a lemon or anything, mainly yaoi humour. My story, Fairy Tales. (It's a Yu-gi-oh fanfic, the couple mainly being Hikari Marik x Yami Bakura.) It's a sort-of AU, where I've basically taken the characters from Yu-gi-oh and put them in various fairy tales, then had Bakura and Marik comment on them.

How do you pronounce yaoi?
I have been saying it Ya(a as in cat) Yoy(oy as in boy) so YaYoy! is that right?

105 Name: Iaculus : 2010-05-12 02:13 ID:UfXjMbT3

Always thought it was pronounced yow-ee, though I may be wrong.

106 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-12 02:13 ID:ihWK8g07

it is actually Ya - O - I
you got Ya right and the "oi" is like oy form boy indeed
there is not Yoy though.

やおい=yaoi
や=ya
お=o
い=i

107 Name: ... : 2010-05-12 07:12 ID:EGzzdXc2

So when you say it fast, it does indeed sound like 'yowee'.

108 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-12 08:11 ID:ihWK8g07

nope it sound ya-o-i clearly, except if someone just can't say it

109 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-12 08:16 ID:ihWK8g07

"Yowee" would be written as "youi"
ようい
よ=yo
う=u
い=i
which is a different word and it means several things depending on the kanji that is used.

110 Name: ... : 2010-05-12 09:06 ID:EGzzdXc2

'Ou', when said fast, makes an 'o' sound (as in 'woe'), while 'ao', when said fast, makes an 'ow' sound (as in 'cow'). Obviously, it's not exactly right, in much the same way as the french é is not pronounced exactly like a Canadian 'eh', or an 'ay' sound, but it's close.

111 Name: KuroShoujo : 2010-05-12 10:09 ID:DWwwpQcD

Yaoi is definetly written
やおい=yaoi
や=ya
お=o
い=i
This is because there's a famous sentence in Japan:
YAmete Oshiri ga Itai ->Stop it my ass hurts XD
YA O I

You just say ya-o-i I speak Japanese pretty well so with me it never sounds like Yowee

112 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-12 10:10 ID:ihWK8g07

you are right about the "ou" sound it is actually an extending "o" but you are wrong on the "ao" both "a" and "o" sounds have to be heard to understand the word

113 Name: sharingansupergirl-kun : 2010-05-12 10:19 ID:5CmCNdBy

>>111, I cannot wait to use that in conversation. Pray, tell me more...

114 Name: ... : 2010-05-12 10:55 ID:EGzzdXc2

'Ow' is comprised of two sounds, an 'a' and a 'u'. The 'u' is the reason it is not an exact match, which is also the reason why it only sounds similar when said fast, as syllables run into each other. Take 'January' in English- Janyuarry, Janyuary, Janyuerry, Janyurry, Janyurih, Janyuarih, Jahnyuerry, Jenyrrih, Jinyurih, Junyuhrih, Jehnyuree, Jonyurih...

115 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-12 11:02 ID:ihWK8g07

but we are talking about Japanese not English
Black Lady in >>111 explained it exactly how it is.

116 Name: ... : 2010-05-12 11:36 ID:EGzzdXc2

It's a larger difference in perception than it is in actual sound. If you are referring to the way 'yaoi' would be pronounced in Japan, where the length of sounds can alter meaning, then of course you say it 'ya-oi'. In an English-speaking country, where this isn't the case, it normally runs together into something closer to 'yowee'. It's similar to the way only a pretentious git pronounces 'croissant' as 'crrwassou' in Starbucks (but cwasson is fine).

117 Name: セーラーエリスは刀の女ですか。 : 2010-05-12 12:11 ID:ihWK8g07

I am talking of how the word it should be sound not how someone who had never heard of how hiragana/katakana characters are pronounced
those who have at least study Japanese a bit know how to say the word right.
and as I said before if you do not pronounce it as it should be, then it can be a different word or worst a non existent word.

118 Name: ... : 2010-05-12 13:52 ID:EGzzdXc2

Hm, I had assumed that the questioner was asking how the word had been adapted in the UK/US. I have just remembered, however, that this is fanbbs, so a question on how to pronounce a PHONETIC romanisation is to be expected. Therefore:

'Yaoi' is pronounced 'yaoi'.
