OK so we've got one's for favourite pairings but what about one's you don't like, oh and I'd quite like it if you justify why you don't like it. And I will allow swearing here because sometimes when you vent you feel the need to swear. Here are mine.
Ichihime - I can stand Orihime as long as she is not taling/thinking/fangirling over Ichigo. I swear to god I can't stand the Kurosaki-kun when I hear it in the anime. Maybe it's just how squeeky her voice is when she says it. Also she only sees Ichigo as knight-in-shining armour, oh look how sweet and adorable he is, when he is the exact oppisite! At least most of the time. She needs a caring guy like Ishida to be gentle with her, not Ichigo who always scowls and constantly shouts.
Bella/Edward - OH MY GOD IT'S FRICKIN ANNOYING! All we hear about in the book is 'Oh Edward is so amazing and super hot and he's so rock hard and he's just amazing and he's always looking out for me' NO HE ISN'T! He constantly pushes her away even when she wants to help, personally I'd be pissed off with my boyfriend kept making me look like a fucking charity case. He leaves her IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING FORREST! Lost with no one to help her, oh yeah Edward you ARE so kind! He tries to kill himself without checking if she is actually dead, and so doesn't take into acount how broken she would be to find out he killed himself over her. He takes the engine out of her truck just so she can't visit Jacob who is only a friend to her and she has proven that to him again and again! Oh and he makes her BEG him for sex! And don't get me started on how dependent she is on him and only him! Great model of the guy teenage girls should be with Meyers!
Pairings I hate:
From Evangelion: Shinji and Asuka. That poisonous little bitch needs to die. She is as screwed up as a football bat, and is taking it out on the world in general.
From Ranma 1/2: Ranma and Ukyo. See the notes above.
From Macross: Ling Minmay and anyone. I want that shallow, worthless girl to die lonely and alone.
From Tenchi Muyo: Tenchi and Ayeka. It seems painfully obvious to me that Ayeka hasn't grown up. Sasami is far more mature.
From Harry Potter: Harry and Draco. I mean, seriously! WTF?!
Molly and Sherlock from the BBC 'Sherlock' mini series. That pairing makes me want to throw up.
...also, Hinata (from 'Naruto') with anyone. I know she's greatly loved by many, but personally I find her excrutiatingly boring.
I also dislike SakuraxNaruto, but I don't hate it. Sakura is difficult to empathise with and like.
I stopped reading Naruto due to the awful way females were written, and for all the 'Sasuke love' from the fans and author. It was irritating.
AangxKatara from The Last Airbender; that relationship was creepy. She was practically his mother for most of the series.
Yuki Mary Sue Cross! Come on! Who does not like Yuki! She's just another Bella Swan! And I don't support incest!)
12. ZeroxYuki (Zero's too good for her!)
13. SonicxSally ( I don't care for Sally Sue either!)
InuyashaxKikyo ( I can't stand that Inuyasha Mary Sue whore!)
>>307 - Please stop with the character bashing. Again, I am not going to argue whether or not Yuki is a Mary Sue here. However, I saw how someone, possibly you, bashed people who like shipping her with Kaname and Zero, breaking up your pairing between the two of them. There is NOTHING wrong with being a Mary Sue type character. The REAL reason you dislike her being paired with either guy, is because you HATE her character, NOT because she is a Mary Sue. (That, and the incest issue... but that is different.)
House/Cuddy - I just was never able to get into that pairing, even when they were a couple on the show I just never liked it much.
From Hetalia, there's a few I don't like, my main one being GerIta, then there's RusPrus and RusAme.
Yeah.
One of my friends couldn't believe I never liked GerIta and then claimed it was canon... Excuse me while I sharpen the 'No pairing in Hetalia is canon' spear. ._.
-SYAORAN/SAKURA- Syaoran's way too awesome for her<
(CardCaptor Sakura: Sakura seize Syaoran's right of title as the CardCaptor and the real Clow's descendant. And that's pissing me off so much!) (Tsubasa R C: Sakura's soooooo damn weak! She's a complete burden for Syaoran and others!)
-NARUTO/SAKURA- >Naruto<
NO WAY, I'm giving Naruto to a bitch like her. How many times had she hurt him?! She just keep whining about her great 'Sasuke-kun'! What's the wonderful thing about that bastard of betrayer chicken-butt-haired-emo anyway?
-BELLA/Anyone- >Twilight Saga<
She's a boring Mary Sue. Just NO.
-HARRY/Anyone- >Harry Potter<
At first I like HP, but suddenly I feels like Harry's being a spoiled brat or something. Harry this, Harry that. Che.
-CHROME/Anyone- >Katekyo Hitman Reborn<
Chrome's weak! And annoying.
-RIKUO/KANA-
Kana's a world's scum. So weak.
Ok so i used to absolutely despise mpreg in anything but since reading the Harry/Draco mpreg in the Harry potter universe it has grown on me massively. but only because its in a fantasy world to begin with and the deffinitions of why they got pregnant are actually plausable in these types of fictions. When an author brings it into catagories like scrubs and house i think it starts being ridiculous
What do you think?
I read MPreg when I need a good laugh, since I can honestly say that the majority of people who write it come up with no plausible reason for it, and due to the lack of thought, the writing is usually shabby and full of fail.
That said, I know there are some good authors out there who write it, but honestly, since I don't like MPreg, I wouldn't want to read a well written one - I read it for the lulz.
If you can get the biology and theory right, it works. -Usually only in magic fics though- the magic does all the work, and it makes sense... eg Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Merlin... but not human ones like NCIS, CSI, Gossip Girl, Bones, etc...
Oh, almost forgot:
A good M-Preg is the Indago series, a Harry/Draco creature fic. It works BECAUSE IT IS BELIEVABLE... Go read it (out indago in google... there are three fics in the series, each very good...)
'Believable M-Preg'. Also known as 'oxymoron'.
I find that in M-Preg makes the men way too like woman. I mean come on, in Harry Potter for example I find:
a) They always make one person dominant. This is really not realistic in a relationship between say Harry/Draco as, Harry's fought the Dark Lord for Christ's sake, it's unrealistic to think that he would put up with Draco ordering him around... This is kind of an against slash argument.
b) The men who are pregnant start acting like some woman. You know, really emotional etc. Just because they are pregnant doesn't mean they will completely change the way that they are. I can understand that there are hormones and stuff, but at the end of the day THEY ARE MEN GETTING PREGNANT it's not even possible!
c) Yeah, men don't get pregnant, they don't have the parts. Even if they magically have a womb or something like that, it just wouldn't happen, also what kind of sick person would make a spell which would give a man a vagina.
That's just my thoughts.
@<3
I agree with you with the sudden male acts female part. Not that I think men can't be soft, but when a real hard man suddenly becomes nothing more than a quivering school-girl because he's gay, then that just doesn't make sense. I don't see Draco covering behind Harry or vice versa.
Of course, men don't get pregnant but say, providing Draco and Harry wanted a kid, they might stumble across a dark magic spell that makes one. Depends how desperate they wanted a child. (And this goes back as to how much thought is imputed into the story.)
@Ellipsis (47), I actually lol'd just now.
I agree with the idea that mpreg works well in a fantasy world (eg LOTR or HP). I actually like mpreg fics that are well written. It's nice to have the pregnancy storyline but used with a slash pairing (which i prefer). Generally, I just disregard the HOW of the mpreg (I am a scientist and agree it doesn't make sense. i think it makes most sense in HP where you can just explain it away with magic). However, most mpreg fics are badly written, which doesn't help the case for that genre of fics.
As far as I know it could technicaly work with medical intervention, rather like an ectopic pregnancy where the embryo implants outside the womb. Dangerous but possible. All an embryo needs to grow is a steady blood supply. And I think I remember reading somewhere that they could strip the genetic material from a donated ovum and replace it with two sets of chromozones, theoreticaly two sperm should work. I think there would be a one in four chance of a non-viable embryo since the combination yy dosent work.
>>51 I think it might be a little more complex then that. That being said, you're thinking a lot more complex then most mpreg fic writers happen to write.
I only try to imagine them, and I practically think:
WTH?! HOW COME?! Since when did the Hell get frozen?!
I love yaoi, but I can't bring myself to read this one.
Kinda feels like an insult for women and mothers.
But, well, this is fanFICTION. Anything can happens here... so...
Before we continue, I should stress that I am not talking about such unspeakably awful creations as My Immortal, Sonichu, the Gonterverse, and the like. Rather, I wish to discuss those rare fanfics that you found genuinely moving. I have three nominations:
- Where Fires Begin: A short, beautifully-crafted postscript to WALL-E. Bring tissues.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4401936/1/
- Once More With Feeling: One of the myriad works of Evangelion fanfiction exploring what would happen if Shinji used Third Impact to travel back in time to the beginning of the series. Get past the vast cloud of spelling and grammar issues, and the glacial update schedule (it's unfinished, and likely to remain that way for a while), and you will find one of the most genuinely hilarious, heartwarming pieces on FF.net.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3736100/1/
- Evangelion: RE-TAKE: Quite possibly the finest piece of NGE fanfiction yet created, and from the most unlikely source. The original was a hentai doujin (yes, really), and the version I'm linking is a 'clean', family-friendly(ish) version with a few scenes added to the plot - as it turns out, it didn't need that many. It's another time-travel fic (with a twist this time), very well-plotted, and the ending made me sob like a little girl. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Oops, sorry for the double post >.< accidentally hit the wrong key...
~Chika
I read this one fic called Eidolon (FFVII) by Silver Pard on ff.net.
Maybe me so sad, I got angry. >:( Then I got sad again. <:(
*made, not maybe, what in the...

One of the fanfics that really made me cry with tears coming is 'Accidental Companion', a Naruto fic, by Windschild8178. Here's the link for it: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5745473/1/Accidental_Companions
Oh god... I cried so incredibly hard because of this HP fic: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2121239/1/ It's twisted and tragic and so totally unfair that I couldn't NOT cry.
Also, this fic is probably the best angst/illness fic I have read in a long time: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1399984/1/Recnac_Transfaerso Read it. The alternate ending was the worst for me; I thought my heart was going to rip out of my chest.
I wasn't sobbing, but that's because tears don't come to me easily when I'm reading. My eyes are just so focused on the words. But this one managed to blur my vision pretty bad.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4728184/1/We_Who_Are_About_to_Die - Sweeney Todd
One of the only fanfics that made me cry was Living a Lie in the Avatar the last airbender fandom. It was a tragic love story that was well written and actually brought tears to my eyes.
Only one comes to mind at the moment,
Stripped Bare - http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3998157/1/ -, by the amazing J-Pop Princess (no I'm not her, though i wish i could write like her)
Stories never make me cry, nor do movies, but i guess something in this just triggered something. I love how raw it is i suppose. It's a Kakashi Sakura fic from Naruto
Very few stories make me cry... These are the exceptions, of which I have written exactly zero.

(Katekyo Hitman Reborn. On-going. Tsuna&Famiglia. Family, friendship, and probably betrayal. I'm bawling.):
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7144004/1/Their_Boss
(Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Completed. Tsuna as the main chara. Family, friendship, angst, hurt/comfort, wonderfully sad. I'm practically screaming.):

(The sequel. I'm crying untill I asleep.):
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7144558/1/Dead_Tears_Deserted_Life
/Seriously, this fics is awesome!/
(Young Justice. Completed. About Robin and an unasterous complicated situation with fabulous plot. This one's great. I'm touched and stunned.):

How many of you are tired of getting those "omg diz is so Kaw@11" reviews? What about those "update soon please" reviews? I'm so sick of them. Recently I put in my a/n of a story on FF. Net that I was leaving for the military next week and people are still like "omg can't what for the update!". I' like can you read? That is besides the point. Critics United is a band of people who know how to give a real and honest review that are coming together from different fandoms in order to help authors who want to know what to work on. We love assisting people who would like an honest opinion of their story and not only that, we are accepting members. We need people who are always honest in their reviews even if what they have to say about the story isn't positive. We we never tell you "you suck go die" of course, but some are a little harsher than others. We have a variety of review styles and we just enjoy helping people. Visit my forums on FF. Net (my name is DarkSacredJewelXoX, just search for me in the search engine) if you just want to talk, want someone to review your story, need a beta, or are interested in joining. We're growing by the day xD. My question to you all is: how do you review stories? Do you just say the positives and leave out anything you think might offend the author? Do you give praise when it's deserved and criticism where needed?
Another question: when you find a fic on FF. Net that's breaking the rules, do you report it? Critics United does; however, we review the story to offer advice on how to fix it first and let the author know what rules they are breaking. Sometimes the authors admit their mistakes and change them; other times they author lashes out. When that happens, we do report the story.
>>82 - I speaking from my knowledge of how the CU works rather then the LU. The CU members stay pretty nice until someone turns into a fanbrat so to speak.
There was a time when I didn't report stories either, unless they were plagiarism. The fanfics I saw breaking the rules would only crop up once a week at most. It seems to have become more frequent over the last few years. I also noticed that a lot of these rule breaking fanfics were getting more positive attention then fanfics that people worked had on obeying the rules on.
Not to mention the fact there are reasons to reports stuff beyond just plagiarism issues.
RPF involving famous people infringes upon their rights to privacy and some of these stories could be brought to court as being slanderous and harmful to the famous persons reputation and the fact is fiction will only fuel the case against people.
RPF self-inserts run the risk of revealing vital information about the author to an online stalker, not to mention RPF self-inserts tend to be “Mary Sued” versions of themselves so the writer runs the risk of calling the people who critique for “Mary Sue” issues “bullies” because the character is the writer.
Songs not in the public domain used in fanfiction is a copyright infringement, which is right up there with plagiarism, PARTICULARLY when the song fic is comprised mostly of the song rather then the writers own words and then they are a form of plagiarism.
If your group is suppose to give constructive criticsm, then why are people like bonus-kun jumping down our throats if we post something like a songfic? and on top of that, if songfics are against the rules, why are there fanfic categories of Cats, Wicked, Glee, Phantom of the Opera, which are all revolved around music?
If you guys don't like what we are writing, then go establish your own fanfic site and mind your own buisness.
Does this look like constructive criticsm to YOU?!?This is what I am talking about. It's a review for the fic don't laugh at me by arianna of combined beings.
Bonus Kun 2/23/12 ch1
Dear:
Clueless Newbie,
I've never been bothered by any of these groups, but I'm disturbed by what I've read so far. Why do we need groups like this; isn't it fanfic.nets job to keep an eye on what's being posted on to their site? I don't want some dickhead 14 year old taking out his issues on me because I've written something he doesn't like.

>>85 Bonus-kun was being a jackass, but I gotta say your insanely fallacious argument about songfics makes me sympathize with xir somewhat. Songfics ARE against the rules, which you would know if you had ever read them, and saying that they should be allowed because fanfic has categories for musicals is like saying that script format should be allowed because movies have scripts.
Despite that, Bonus-kun should have asked you to take your songfic down much more politely. Being a shit to authors who are doing something wrong only encourages those authors to be shits in return.
>>85 - Sorry, but you missed the fact songfics are against site rules because they use song lyrics that are under copyrght. It is against the law to use copyrighted lyrics unless it is under fair use and fanfiction is not fair use.
>>88 - I'm not going to defend the review here but I am going to say it isn't possible for the site admins to police the site on their own. They need people to report rule breaking fanfics. If I broke a rule, I would rather get a warning rather then have it removed without me not knowing.
The again, Bonus Kun does state in his profile that he's an aggressive bastard when it comes to stories that are breaking the rules. So I don't know what you were expecting out of him.
I was actually flamed by him once and after talking to him I realized he's actually a decent guy behind the flamer act.
Basically, we have a thread talking about clichés and whether one likes it or not. This thread is about those clichés that you want to see done, but can never seem to find a good fanfic for. I am off to make my list...
Clichés in the Gundam Wing universe:
Would be great if they let him stay IC >> Because Duo is cocky and arrogant when allowed. And very bouncy and laid back.
Clichés in the Dragonball Z universe:
Never works, too chewed out.
>>20 - These kind of seem like cliches you aren't fond of rather then ones you want to see done well... but I could be wrong.
I've got a new one. I'd love to see a love triangle romance where you don't have the character A who is also the main character coming and breaking up the relationship between B and C despite the fact the writer of the fanfic makes it clear that the pairing between B and C works far better and more logical then A and B. I'm not talking about "die for your ship either". I am talking about where "A and B" is the main ship for the fanfic and C is thrown in for the sake of having some competition for A. I can't tell you how many times I've ended up rooting for B and C to get together!
>>21 oh yeah I see that love triangle all the time! And like you, I often want the second pairing to happen. Usually character A has been a comlete idiot, and character C gets the short straw in the whole thing.
The only time I didn't want B with C was in this fic:http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4478535/1/A_Balm_for_Social_Failure but then sometimes I didn't want A with B either! I just kind of felt sorry for B
>>22 - I've seen a few of those too. What is really bad is when the reviewers are rooting for A/B and cursing out B/C... it's like... don't you care how A/B looks?
Blinkered, that's what they are. It's where the whole stereotypical fan girl/fan boy thing comes from; the blatant hypocrisy some fans show because they're so desperate for their favourite pairings to always work.
Well and truly know what you mean. Though love triangles don't tend to be the plat du jour in my fandom, as almost everyone seems to be enamoured of the same few pairings! Their A/B is by far the most popular ship, and B/C -- or B/anyone-but-A -- is viewed with suspicion and/or hostility. After all, can't we B/C shippers see that A/B are "canon!!1!"?
(Nope. Sorry guys. I maintain that the "canon" is A/D, and nothing you say will convince me otherwise. Broken glasses don't lie.)
>>24 & 25 - I'm struggling with this when it comes to Toshiro/Momo fans for the Bleach fandom. I once saw a fan for this pairing say it must be canon because T/M has so much fanart. I still believe that a lot of the Momo bashing came from the fact they liked saying their pairing was canon and/or semi canon to the newbie fanfic writers which caused a major bit of hostility back. And no... this isn't off topic because my A/B I am specifically thinking about when it comes to love triangles is Momo and Toshiro, and it is definitely a Toshiro/anyone-but-Momo-is-wrong pairing for some of these fans. I'm still a little miffed due to finding out that one of the few fanfics for this pairing that I had in my favorites has been deleted... actually, I think quite a few are which should say something.
Come to think of it, one of my fandoms has a cliché where the main female character ends up in the 'ghettoised' region adjacent to the city. It's almost always an excuse for the aforementioned A/B pairing, sometimes featuring a third character who is one of A's friends and gets turned into the 'bad boy' love-rival, with the purpose of (1) ~proving~ to B that A should be her One True Love for ever and ever and (2) allowing A to ~win~ her (a problematic stance in its own right, but I digress...)
I've recently determined to write my own B-in-Satellite fic (which incidentally will have trace amounts of also aforementioned B/C). But I want to do it for character growth. I want to take the character from her initial thought--'Everyone knows that all people from Satellite are criminals; I should be a Satellite because I'm a bad person'--to identifying herself as affiliated with Satellite and a good person.
D'you think that qualifies as reclaiming the cliché enough? I certainly hope it will be.
>>27 - Seems similar to one of the things I see with my favorite ship Draco/Hermione. Except that is coupled with the "change the bad boy's heart". That's the closest thing I can equate it too, since I honestly don't know what fandom you are talking about... :C
Can I have peoples opinions on slash because some people hate it and some people won't read anything but.I personally will read anything that makes sense but I am curious about what you people think. And if you hate it,please tell me why,I just want to know because I'm nosey.
>I think it has to do with the fact that sexuality is an accepted thing over in Japan, but it is also taboo to talk about as you said. It's kind of hard to explain in just a few words...
you are so right about your point I couldn't agree more to that!
Fangirls have to actually make an effort to understand the fandom's original society then attempt to write about it.
>>134 - I think the best way to put it is, now that I think of it, it is easier to see it. But that takes observation skills.
>>134 - I think the best way to put it is, now that I think of it, it is easier to see it. But that takes observation skills.
>>133 "Those fangirls... most are way too young and don't even know what they are talking about or thinking about."
Exactly. A lot problems with the terribly written yaoi, sex or not, is that the authors don't understand what they are writing about.
Two males in a relationship doesn't mean the relationship is "I love you, but I was too afraid to tell you. I love you too! Sex"
Okay, if you are unable to write a decent hetero pairing and you are a twelve to thirteen year old girl, stay away from yaoi. Period. It's hard to write in general when you are starting, but the rule is that you should write what you know if you are new to writing and are still perfecting your skills. Those fangirls have ruined yaoi and given it a bad reputation.
I wouldn't have a problem with fangirls if they would stick to what they know, stay away from what they don't, not write a lemon about two males because yaoi seems to be the new "in thing," and back the hell away from the place I look to read intelligent stuff, malexmale or not.
>>137 LOVELY rant :D
actually whoever who writes because he couple "IZZZ HAWWWWTTT" should be ignored or even kicked from the fandom -_-;
Exactly! Yaoi is so much more complicated than two guys making out because you think they're "HAWT."
How I would love to destroy the fangirls.
Exactly! Yaoi is so much more complicated than two guys making out because you think they're "HAWT."
How I would love to destroy the fangirls.
Me+Slash=content with life! If anyone takes away my slash I will BITE! My slash! MINE!
>>141 - While it is nice that you like slash try to avoid being rabid about it. Any sort of rabid fangirlism/fanboyism is frowned upon in fandom and fanfic writing.
Just a place where we can share fics that are underrated, perhaps giving a small description and a small quote from it, along with a link?
Heres one of mine:
Its called Lord Voldemort and the Mental stability test, and is purely humor. Its (Obviosly) a Harry potter fic, in which Lord Voldemort takes a Mental stability test in order to be legally allowed to use the unforgivables. Not to be taken seriosly. Its oneshot, and short, so i wont add a quote. Heres the link:

I don't know if this thread works for getting readers, but just in case I'll advertise my fic.
It's for the fandom of DEATH NOTE.
The story is based off (very loosely) 'The Turn of the Screw.'
It's an AU and stars Matsuda as an American tutor going to work in England looking after two little boys. The place he goes to is called Apple Gate Manor and is haunted by different spirits, including that of Light Yagami aka Kira. However, is it really haunted, or is Matsuda going completely insane?

How long do you think people should wait between new chapters? I tend to update my multichapters every four weeks. Other authors up date every few months and others every few days. Does anyone have a time limit where they think updates can be too fast or too slow?
I'm writing a series of stories for one fandom. I finished the last one in April, and said I hoped to be back with more in the summer. On July 1st someone emailed me and said "it's summer, you promised another fic, where is it?" :o/ Like an idiot, I wrote back as though I needed to justify myself! I mean, there was a lot of not nice stuff going on that was nobody's business but mine and my family, so writing was way down on my list of priorities for a while. Anyway, I just started posting the new fic last week, and already this person is demanding an update and saying she hopes I'm going to get on with it and not keep everyone (i.e. her!) waiting. I know what I REALLY want to say to her, but... I was brought up not to be so rude!!
Sorry - double post! I meant to say too that I always try to update at least once a week, and if I can't do that, I explain the fact and ask people to be patient. Most readers understand that, but JEEZ, this one person is so demanding!
>>13 - You may want to block this person if they become a hastle.
I usually update once a week. I write my story and get everything situated with editing and flow and then I post. I used to write a chapter and post it as soon as I was finished editing, but I found so many problems with doing it that way. If I have a story that I find myself on anticipating (I do read my own work, each chapter as it comes out) I will sometimes post two a week. I have just found it easier to finish the story, editing and all, and then once a week post a chapter while working on other fics.
I have had people message me and ask me to write more on stories, or continue off of ones that are wrapped up. Some have even flat out just told me to write more. Some readers can get a bit crazy, but I just go my own pace with the stories that come to mind.
>>13 What I always say is you can't rush creative genius-ness. ^_^
I am horrible with updating! For example, I've finished the 3rd chapter of my fan fiction a month ago but I haven't typed it up! I have just been so busy with sports and homework etc.
>>16 I prefer to get a story pretty much completed - or at the very least, a full outline - before I start posting. I've read lots of stories that are obviously posted as they're written that just meander along and totally lose the plot somewhere along the way.
And Lauren, I think I'll mention my 'creative genius-ness' next time she hassles me! Actually, I got a bit shirty with her a while ago, told her politely that I had explained there would be a delay as I had Uni assignment deadlines, and given a date by which the next chapter would be up, and she hasn't reviewed since! I guess she ain't my friend no mo'!

Hate to post anonymously, so sorry - that was me... twice, apparently! :o/
