I stopped reading some fandoms, because I was so irritated that some stories had loads of reviews, but were pap, where other stories were awesome and had a lot of effort put in, but because they had more plot and less sex, got no reviews.
I've come across that a lot while reading through some of the fandoms. It's ridiculous that people look for just sex scenes, most of the time they are written horribly, rather than going for stories that are so well written with details and a lot of effort. It's a shame people do that, but I guess that's how things go. Just have to be thankful for the ones who take the time to look for good stories.
Hard question eh???
Err i write all sorts. Best one ive ever written would have to be Doctor Who/Torchwood crossover.
But i write; CSI New York, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Harry Potter, Merlin and sometimes Star wars. I've tried to combine all of the above but it's really hard when you have to find parts for all of them or it just seems like they come out of nowhere.
>>26 NewMagicWeaver hi, you've read the Night World books as well? I read them ten years ago when I was 15 and thought they were great :) Although I had convinced myself for some wierd reason that Strange Fate had actually been published eye roll of course that's not till next year (finally) I also watched Buffy I was in to it when everyone else in my year was dismissing it as vampire nonsense until they realised it was more to it than that.
I've only written three fics so far, all for Twilight and they're actually sequels to each other. I would like to write something based on Doctor Who or the Mighty Boosh, or perhaps a Doctor Who/Boosh crossover, now that would be strange. But I can only write one at a time or I get confused so I'll have to wait and see.
EvE Online.
There is even a catagory for it on FFnet.
See if you can find me :P
I like to write in the manga fandoms
CSI(all of them except Miami,sorry I just don't like it)and I LOVE primeval.I rocks my multicoloured socks.
BONES! (ooh, said that too enthusiastically.....)
House mainly, thinking about some CSI or Bones though.
Storm Hawks or House MD for sure.
I have and still am writing fics for:
Bones
Inuyasha
Naruto
Bleach
And I've just started writing some Castle fics
Death Note is what I started with.
I also like writing for Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles because, due to the nature of the series, you can get away with doing a lot in that fandom, and it still not being AU.
I am also writing one story multi-chapter for 'Batman the animated series', and hope to write more in the future.
I am planning on writing for Naruto.
How many of you are tired of getting those "omg diz is so Kaw@11" reviews? What about those "update soon please" reviews? I'm so sick of them. Recently I put in my a/n of a story on FF. Net that I was leaving for the military next week and people are still like "omg can't what for the update!". I' like can you read? That is besides the point. Critics United is a band of people who know how to give a real and honest review that are coming together from different fandoms in order to help authors who want to know what to work on. We love assisting people who would like an honest opinion of their story and not only that, we are accepting members. We need people who are always honest in their reviews even if what they have to say about the story isn't positive. We we never tell you "you suck go die" of course, but some are a little harsher than others. We have a variety of review styles and we just enjoy helping people. Visit my forums on FF. Net (my name is DarkSacredJewelXoX, just search for me in the search engine) if you just want to talk, want someone to review your story, need a beta, or are interested in joining. We're growing by the day xD. My question to you all is: how do you review stories? Do you just say the positives and leave out anything you think might offend the author? Do you give praise when it's deserved and criticism where needed?
Another question: when you find a fic on FF. Net that's breaking the rules, do you report it? Critics United does; however, we review the story to offer advice on how to fix it first and let the author know what rules they are breaking. Sometimes the authors admit their mistakes and change them; other times they author lashes out. When that happens, we do report the story.
>>63 - Not to mention, I looked and saw that one of your reviewers offered to help you with being a Beta Reader for you, to help you with your grammer issues. I suggest having them use the DocX system and finding the places that need corrections and then having you change them yourself, so that you'll learn and grow. Actually, one of my favorite reviewers on my old fanfics reviewed for the story and to help me on my grammer when I first started out. Nolstalgia.
>>66 - Welcome! :)
I'm always fairly honest in my reviews. But, I find, that most authors don't really like that. My review is either ignored, where all the others are replied too, or the author goes on a long diatribe about how and why the story is written like this or this character is acting like that. Which just annoys me. If you have to explain something outside of the story, then just put that in the story.
So, lately, I don't review much. If I do, it's usually just the stories that I like, in which I give positive feedback.
>>68 - I know how that feels really. But I also know, if someone doesn't step up and hold these people to have some sort of standard, they won't ever think to have standards. Actually, some are like, who cares about the rules, treating life as if they can get away with anything. Or... more perhaps along the lines that the internet is NOT part of the real world, when it really is.
>>69 - Yeah, but, some of them get really upset. And, I understand. If you're just writing something for fun, or you're all young and angsty and full of soft mushy spots that are easily bruised, then fine. It's cool, I don't have to critique them. I just wish that they would say, somewhere in the beginning of the story or something, "No negative feedback," or "Not looking for critiques." I can respect that.
But, obviously, they don't. So, then, I do. And, then they get their feelings hurt and I'm left standing there looking like a little baddy. ;o; Poor me, oh, my.
>>69 Many of the newer members who have posted their first FanFic are very susceptible to criticism if you are nice enough about pointing out their mistakes and how to fix them, but there will always be the ones that think their stories are holy pieces that need not be edited at risk of disturbing the balance that makes it so 'amazing.'
Standards need to be set if anyone is to be improved upon.
>>70 I've been blunt and to the point with some writers that are twelve and many of them simply say that they didn't know and start editing it.
Many will put, "No flames." But that leaves room for interpretation, meaning that leaving a critique can set them off for "flaming" their story.
Writing for fun doesn't mean you can't improve upon yourself, and some people are truly too soft when it comes to being criticized in anything they do. You need to learn what you're doing wrong to fix it.
Don't feel bad about 'hurting their feelings.' Many simply overreact or are extremely defensive of their work. Telling them what is wrong with their story is not a crime. You are doing nothing wrong and should feel no remorse in trying to help them.
>>71 You're a very nice lady and/or gentleman. Thank you very much. X3
I have already become somewhat of a critic on fanfiction.net. If I see a good story I tend to leave a good review with helpful hints on what could improve the story even further. I do have a hard time reviewing a bad story simply because I don't really like to be mean and there isn't much nice I could say for the bad story.
>>73 I completely know where you're coming from. Its hard to sit and come up with the nicest way possible to tell the writer they need work and to get them to actually take you're advice, when the story is bad. Something I've found to make it easier to help others is to think about if this were my story, what advice and crit would I listen to the most. I form the review the way i would like to see on one of my stories, the way some great people have done for me and hope that the person will take my crit into consideration.
>>71 I know I can be protective of my own work at times but I think if the reviewer words it as they are giving advice to help strengthen the story and the writer themselves, they will be more open to the information coming in. Rather than many reviewers that I've seen that come along and just tear the story apart and leaving it. If a reviewer can tell the writer what they found wrong, and maybe a suggestion on how to fix it, more writers would listen. Its difficult listening to anyone who rips apart something you've been working hard on. That's just my view on it as the writer.
I feel that being a writer myself and seeing the kind of reviews that help me will help me review on stories I read. It gives me another view other than some people who read and review and only have favorites on their page, never ever written a story before.
Well, since I had a major breakdown with the other host where I lost all of the posts, I guess we are just going to have to start over. I have moved to an other host, and I am going to spend the next few weeks of hard work learning Perl to re-code this to store the posts in a database rather than in .html files as it has been doing before... (and this really is tiresome...) but if this is necessary to prevent another breakdown, I am going to do it!
Anyways, let's just re-introduce ourselves right now. I am Yoshino in the Moonlight, and I have written some fanfiction before, but not so much right now.
Hola! I'm Espanglish... and I'm not Spanish -sobs- but I'm in love with anything to do with Spain (don't ask). You can call me either Grace, Gracia or Grey, I don't really mind and I'm 16 from England... you know, the country that has terrible weather?
I've been on FF.net for a few years now and wrote a few stories but they sucked big time so I took them off and now I have 3 stories up; two for Silent Hill (which are on a long hiatus) and one for Bully which I'm currently writing.
Anyway, its nice to meet you all. I hope I make some mates here!

Whoops, double post. Sorry.
Heyy. I'm DarkXRachel, as it says and I'm Scottish - so naturally I'm from Scotland. I'm 15 and feel free to call me Rachel, Rach or Rae. I've been on fanfiction.net for nearly a year now and I'm in the middle of writing at least three stories but usually there's so much in my head that I lose count. Great to meet you all! :) By the way, Espanglish - don't worry. I have an obsession with Australia, so I know how you feel about Spain!
Hi everyone, my name is Valeska. Pronounced just like it looks, it's not as complicated as most people try to make it haha. I too am from Scotland. Been writing fanfiction since I was about 13, I'm 20 now. Used to be on mediaminer and adultfanfic.net, but now I'm just with good ole fanfiction.net.
I mainly write and read game and anime related stories, FF7 being a favourite. I like anything really, whether it's hetro pairings, yaoi, yuri, OC characters - as long as it's written well, and making me laugh never hurts, I enjoy it :).
hi I'm Cricketpoor or Malin or well what ever nickname you can think of for me,I'm 22 years old. I've been writting forever it seems and tried my hand at getting published.
Still haven't gotten my creative work in print but a couple of articles in a very local paper, of which i'm proud but confused.
My brain seems to have ADD sometimes and my focus is less than stellar, but i do keep up with several books and i do my best to keep up with my fanfics.
I writte a multiple chapter thing in HP right now and i co author a epic story that is rps about the geman band Cinema Bizarre.
I'm swedish but I love to travel when ever I can aford to which is seldome.... As you might see I have a tendesy to rant.
I go by Watcher. I'm English, living in England. Despite not being an adult physically yet, I'm an adult mentally. I'm too mature for my own good, but that's what you get when you live with three other adults and no kids. Pretty freaky, I know, but there we go.
I've been writing Harry Potter FF since I was twelve. It's my one true obsession. Though I'm really shy about posting it on the net, so I mostly keep it to myself. I occasionally RPG here and there, but not often.
I'm nocturnal. I swear it. And very paranoid.
Well, that's all I feel comfortable revealing about myself. Or some crazy stalker might attack me. Paranoia - not fun. ;D
Hello, my name is Laura and I live in Manchester, England.
I'm known as momothelemur on FFN and a few other places. I've been writing fanfic since I was 14, I'm now 17.
My favourite fandom is Avatar, my OTP is Zutara. I actually get kind of offended when people insult my ship...I guess I'm just crazy and pathetic like that :)
I love pretty much any love/hate relationships, including Dramione in the HP Universe. I suppose I'm fascinated by the idea of opposites and balance and the 'oh the drama!' aspect that the pairings bring.
Looking forward to meeting you all :)
I'm known in the fan culture as Indigo, short for Indigo-Typhoon. Which sounds grand but actually hardly anyone knows me.
I love fan works! Fan fiction, fan art, cosplay, role plays, even reading long internet debates.
My most frequently loved fandom is Namco's Tales of Symphonia. I also like Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, and the others tend to vary over time, but those three are pretty constant.
I am a writhing mass of contradictions (And not ashamed to say I got that line from Suite Life on Deck) My language can swap from highly formal, to lightly kooky. I can be monosyllabic or go off on great long rants. I always try to be polite and honest, but I can be a little dense at times which sometimes makes me blunt. I never try to offend though.
I will defend a pairing if someone challenges me, unless I have no valid reason to do so, but I won't get all het up about it. If it seems like I'm going off on one it's actually just that I use detail to explain my point. When I try to be brief I normally end up leaving things ambiguous.
I have been writing for about 4 years now. I love reading fanfics, watching the origonal shows/animes, and cosplaying.
I have cosplayed Nanao from bleach and I have also created my own costume to be able to cosplay the 2 tailed beast and the 8 tailed beast from Naruto.
My favorite pairings from my favorite shows/anime:
Naruto/Sakura
Sasuke/Ino
Neji/Tenten
Kekashi/Anko
Kiba/Hinata
Shikamaru/Temari
I'm guessing most of the people here go to fanfiction.net. Anywhere else?
I use fanfiction.net, hpfandom.net which is mostly hp but has some good crossover fics, an adultfanfiction.net, I'll also occasionally use tthfanfic, but only when i get the urge for BtVS lol
Same as Nadine, fanfiction.net and deviantArt. I'm down as Kivea on dA, but not on ff.net. Iono why.
I usually use dA for fanart though.
I prefer fanfiction.net and deviantArt myself. Same name as above, just started on DeviantArt but my scanner went and broke on me, not good.
Aloha!
I'm Magnus, but on fanfiction.net I'm Magnus Spark (Woo check my ego, I even gave myself a surname >=D)
I'm on LiveJournal too at Mannequin_0
So yeah, hi.
hey!
Well I use fanfiction.net (like many others) and I also use Quizilla
I always use fanfiction.net, it's the first one I found and I stick with it!
Fanfiction.net for my premier and revised editions, deviantart for a few oneshots/stories that I've actually illustrated, myspace for my journals/work drafts, and tnbc.eu for any "Nightmare Before Christmas" stories. I like to get my stuff out there.
Just Fanfiction.net, its easy to use, plus everyone uses it lol so lots to read!
My first fan site was Quizilla (ruler-of-them94) but now I hardly -ever- it and Ive been using FanFiction.net (dragonxdimond) for a while.
A simple question, which I think can be very useful:
What is it that you like best about fan-fiction?
Best part: unleashing your imagination. You can create about anything you want without limits.
When you see something in the series that gets your mind wondering and being able to put your ideas to paper (or, word processor file). And on top of that, you can share it with people who appreciate it and share your thoughts :)
well i always enjoyed writing but since writing and posting on fanfiction its improved my writing and given me more confidence just from peoples reviews! i also love when other writers give you ideas for stories!
What I like about fanfiction is the fact you can write about anything at all. And it has helped my writing skills.
I think the best part about fanfiction is becoming lost in the imaginary world of the story, reading/writing for enjoyment and discovering news ways to write from other authors without being judged. It's just like you can forget who you are and be whoever who want.
You can practically make the characters do anything you want them too. they could practically grow two heads and it would be allowed because it's fanfiction!
You can even use your feelings/secrets as plots and make your main character go through the things that have happened to yourself. Don't worry I'm not talking about myself unless I have lots of male lovers :/ unfortunately I don't
Darn...
Sorry I'll stop my rant now =]
Much love
x
I think of fanfiction as a way get rid of the frustration I get when I read the real thing.
Naruto for instance, Naruto's sheer incompetance and inability to grasp things just drives annoys me. So I read fanfiction to see the Naruto world where Naruto is capable of thinking.
Harry Potter is another example, where Harry after 6 years of schooling, and running his own DADA club can't use anything but the same 3 or 4 spells repeatedly, despite running for his life.
Being able to write a story and post it that someone enjoys and reviews. Reviews are a very good thing about Fanfiction as it makes me want to write more :)
x
That people who don't even know me take time out to read and comment on something that i have created.
There is no reason for them to be nice or biased they just tell you how it is and it usually inspires me to write more :)
ciao

I think of as a way to get my feelings out, rather it be from my personal life or caused by the fandom itself. It also allows me to gain experience and try out different writing styles. It helps me grow into a better writer. And even more so when I have people who don't know me, people who don't feel the need to have to tell me that my writing is good, tell me I'm doing a great job. I like the accomplished feeling I get when I bring everything, feelings and thoughts, together and I get praised by strangers for my work.
That has to be the best parts of writing fanfiction.
It is by far the best show I've ever seen.
Back in January this year I was feeling really down, but then I found this show and whala! I am the happy little girl from Berkshire again..
If you have any thoughts and opinions on Bones, please post any comments....share the love for Bones!
xx
Hart Hanson needs to get his priorities straight- and just give everyone want!
Angela and Hodgins want each other,
Brennan and Booth want each other,
And we ALL want them both together!
Here, here!
>>6 thanks!
Love Bones!
Have the first 3 seasons.
Hopefully getting the 4th for chrsitmas, but have seen some of them.
Season 5 is recorded on my virgin box.
So much tension in this show!
>>9 So true!!!!
I used to be obsessed with Bones. I really did. But then the idiots made Zach Gormogon's apprentice and I've never really gotten over it.
Although, I did give last season a good go, but in the end I just gave up. And now here I am.
>>14 Aw....it's a shame you don't like it, this season is pretty good. I HATED it when they got rid of Zach.....but I've moved on.
AAI! :)
Love Bones, really glad they finally got Booth and Brennan together. I'm anxious to see how they are going to make the relationship work with the story line to keep viewers interested. So far, in my opinion at least, season 7 has been pretty great. Fox has put too many hiatus' in this season though. had to wait extra long for it to come back and I would have been okay with the winter break but was it really necessary to take epi 6 and have it several weeks later and then we have to wait again for the rest of the season, just to push Bones fans into the finder? The finder would have done fine on it's own....
Anyway... anxious to see baby Booth!
>>17 Agree can't wait to see how things work with the baby and all, as for the finder.. it really should have done its own thing rather then using bones audience to bring to the show some the ending of season 6 was a little shocking, but made for a very comedic season 7, or what we have seen of it so far
I've written for many different shows, from cartoons to television shows, and I've recently come across Castle. I'm currently working on my first Castle fic. Is there anything specific, as fans, that you would like to see written in a fic? Are there any other fans of Castle out there who write fics for it?
Castle is awesome :D that and i may share some similarity with one of the cast members either way, also i try and help write and or come up with ideas for fan fics :D
Does anyone else get extremly anxious over a lack of reviews? I do especially if the chapter I released had something shocking or a twist in it. I get really nervous when no one responds, to the point at times where I've actually found it difficult to go to sleep, or I've been distracted all day.
Please say I'm not the only one who worries like crazy!
Sorry for the double post! Something went wrong with my computer!
Recently, I've had to deal with a badfic writer who is addicted to reviews. I've told them that their story isn't improving, but they keep bugging people to get more reviews and such. If they ask me ONE more time, I'm going to go ahead and review their story, calling them out for their behavior.
>>15 That might be a good idea. Sometimes people just need the truth.
>>15 That might be a good idea. Sometimes people just need the truth.
>>15 That might be a good idea. Sometimes people just need the truth.
I've actually read some of the stories by authors' that have posted here, and I decided to give a reviewer's opinion, since I read more than I write. We don't review because of quite a few reasons. Sometimes, I'm just too lazy to do it, I don't know what to say without sounding mean or stupid because it was really good, or really bad. Or maybe I review all the time and would like to take a break. Most of us reviewers DO understand your need for reviews, but sometimes we're just too lazy. Or maybe, if you're story was popular when it started, and still is, we don't think we need to review since you know by now that we like it. Just look at old reviews to reassure yourself, or keep count of bad revews compared to good. Sorry for the long post. ^^'
>>16 - I finally called the writer out and blocked them.
>>19 - I think some of the people came here because they wanted to get more reviews fro their stories. This isn't everybody mind you, but there are sure a lot of people who show up and suddenly disappear. Particularly when they are called out for behaviors that are considered bad etiquette amount the more serious writers in fanfiction. By this I mean universally bad etiquette.
Anyways, I had an author who told me I was calling people out for making a strong character into a weak bubbling version of their formal selves because I don't like seeing said character be sad. I am still shaking my head at this because they based this on one review not on their story within the fandom and stories that the author deleted. There is a fanfic where said character deals with grief that I actually liked and I have written for the angst genre and I've also written Darkfic. Goodness knows I would write this character in a position where she was sad IF I thought it possible. This one isn't easy though.
>>20 - I think I posted the second half in the wrong thread... for some reason I thought this was the "stuff people do that bothers you" thread. Oops...
Any fan of toriko knows the huge variety of stuff in the world there is to eat. I'm making a Naruto/Toriko crossover and need help coming up with all kinds of food stuff. I don't want to use too much of what's in the canon Toriko world, because frankly, some of the submissions the artists takes seem to be getting redundant and ridiculous.
Here's the template:
Name of creature or plant:
description:
Parts that are edible:
Miscellaneous uses if non-edible:
Special instructions (for cooking or defeating to make edible):
Capture level (1 being easy, 100 just shy of impossible): (be reasonable, in the manga, everything seems to be hitting above 100 lately):
I may not know the show, but I think you are going about this the wrong way. Wouldn't it be easier to come up with a plotline, and then stuff to go with the said plot, rather then coming up with the stuff and the plot to go with said stuff?
>getting ridiculous
>Toriko
When was it not ridiculous? Ever? Seriously, this show makes One Piece look like a Greek Tragedy.
@2> I have the plot, but it's got room for almost anything, and I can't come up with the stuff. I need the food to insert to just mess around with.
@3> In the first 4-5 arcs, the animals had some relevancy and understandable characteristics for how they could be harvested for food, but now, it's mostly just creatures that are obscure mixtrues of one creature and another. In my opinion it's WAY better than One Piece which tries too hard to be serious and then funny at the same time.
I just need ingredients to use in the fic.
Uh huh.
If you want more ingredients, consider making them yourself as an exercise in creative writing, because if you don't like the ones in the show, 9 times out of 10 you won't like the ones random people on the internet make up for you, either.
Help is alwasy appreciated so it stands:
Looking for help, please submit answers, credit will be given to you in fic.

I can try to help. One of the things I thought of were the Sugar Spinners. It's basically a spider that makes its web out of spun sugar (I think it's also called cotton candy). The spiders themselves are about a foot across (look up pics of the Goliath Spider for reference) and it's a given that the web is strong. The spiders themselves are basically regular spiders, but with a horrendous sweet tooth. They're technically below capture level 1, but they're usually in groups and are very defensive about their webs. The method of capturing the web is to put out a trap of sweets to lure the spiders away from their webs and quickly collect them during that absence. The webs are prized for their beautiful designs as well as their wonderfully sweet flavor and are typically served as a topping, like say draped over a sundae or laid on top of a cake.
I can try to think of more if it'll help.
